Kurt and Blaine were best friends. Blaine, who had taken the position of Kurt's role model, always kept the boy in his sight. During impromptu naptimes, the two could be seen snuggling closely, Blaine's arm wrapped protectively around Kurt's form. Blaine continued his nudity campaign, which Kurt whole-heartedly supported, but David and Sebastian were finally able to find cotton sleepers with buttons on the back where they couldn't be reached.
However, Kurt and Blaine did have their moments of separation due to the mental age difference. Blaine enjoyed trips to the park and playing outside, or doing other activities such as finger paints and crafts involving glue and (safety) scissors. Unfortunately, Kurt's inability to walk left him sitting on the sidelines for more active games. Sebastian didn't trust the boy for a second with finger paints or glue. Not since he'd come into the dining room to find Blaine giggling hysterically at Kurt, who's teeth had mysteriously turned blue. No, instead the men were forced get creative. Parenting sites really came in handy. So far, Kurt's favorite thing was when they covered the kitchen table in shaving cream that was mixed with food dye. There wasn't really any purpose other than making a mess, but it made the brunet go nuts.
Dave and Sebastian decided (based on one of their parenting websites) that the boys needed to have craft time at least four times a week. Then they began to establish other times slots for a variety of activities until they had a complete daily schedule. It went like this:
8:30 AM-Wake up and get dressed
9 AM-Breakfast
9:45 AM-Play time
11 AM-Outside time
12:30 PM-Lunch time
1:30 PM-Quiet time
2:15 PM-Nap time
4 PM-TV time
5:45 PM-Arts and Crafts
6:30 PM-Dinner time
7:30 PM-Bath time
8:15 PM-Bottles
8:45 PM-Bedtime (Kurt)
9 PM-Bedtime (Blaine)
Having such a structured day began to show noticeable improvements in both Blaine and Kurt's behavior. Kurt, who was usually very cranky in the morning due to late bedtimes, was now much more cheerful and energetic. Blaine just liked knowing what came next during the day. Kurt got diaper checks every two hours and changes when necessary. Blaine was taken to the potty every hour, but even then he was still kept in pull-ups. Better safe than sorry.
Quiet time was a little tricky. Kurt didn't really understand or care about the importance of books and Blaine couldn't read, so the men had no choice but to divide and conquer. Dave took Kurt up to the nursery where he had his afternoon bottle and rocked in his arms until he fell asleep to the sound of a lullaby CD on repeat. Sebastian cuddled up on the couch with Blaine and read picture books aloud. Blaine would cuddle up with his blanky and pacifier, then head upstairs to join Kurt who was usually almost or already asleep. Then they went downstairs and cleaned up lunch, cleaned up toys, cleaned up everything for round two.
Bath time was always unpredictable. Sometimes Kurt and Blaine were more than happy to get in the tub and would take baths together. Other times one of them wouldn't be in the mood, which would call for separate baths. The worst nights, however, were when neither of them wanted to take a bath. It was at these moments when a man's patience and willpower was truly tested. Kurt, who had yet to understand that bathwater was not for drinking, had to be constantly watched. His baths could also be no more than fifteen minutes lest they want bath time to turn into toilet time. Blaine was a little easier, despite having the infamous flaw of being a splasher. By the time they left the bathroom, Dave and Sebastian were both soaked from head to toe. Luckily, the heat and energy of baths tended to leave the babies sluggish and tired.
Outside time was a little tricky. Seeing as how the Hummel-Anderson residence didn't have much of a backyard, the men were forced to get imaginative. This often resulted in things like hopscotch, chalk drawings, and ball passing. If it was nice out and the boys were being cooperative, Sebastian would take Blaine down the street to the playground while Dave stayed home with Kurt and practiced hand-eye coordination using balls and blocks. Sometimes when nobody was around, Dave took Kurt outside and let him make his own creations on the pavement.
Television time was simple. Pop in a Disney movie, turn on Backyardigans, done. Sebastian and Dave could clean up or sit and take care of their own business while the couple snuggled together on the couch. It was cute to see them all cozied up under a blanket with their plushies in their arms and their pacifiers bobbing intently against their lips while their gazes remained glued to the screen before them. That was one thing that they would always agree on. Besides, who didn't love Sesame Street?
Arts and crafts was definitely the messiest, even worse than meals. Kurt was restricted to simpler things. Oversized crayons on construction paper, shaving cream, edible modeling dough…and so on. Blaine was a little more advanced in his artistic skills and had learned long ago that eating craft supplies was a big no-no. On easy days, Blaine was rewarded with finger paints. The men bought giant beads for him to make necklaces, he made macaroni pictures, colored with markers, or played with Play-Doh, which was now kept on a higher shelf ever since Kurt had mistaken it for cookie dough and spent the rest of the night retching into the toilet bowl.
"Don't spill it, Blaine." Sebastian warned.
It was Thursday. Dave was in the living room with Kurt coloring pictures of farm animals and Sebastian sat in the dining room with Blaine. He had been stupid enough to bring out a bottle of glitter, which Blaine nearly began to tear up over. Now he was holding the gold container over a big glob of glue that was vaguely in the shape of a heart.
"I got it." Blaine insisted, shaking it so carefully that only two or three tiny grains of glitter fluttered onto the paper and stuck themselves into the white glop.
"That's it…a little more…little more." Sebastian encouraged, nodding his head. The glitter began to slowly conform into the shape under his close watch.
"Hey, Kurt's pretty occupied, so I'm going to start dinner." Dave told Sebastian. After a month of caring for Blaine, he had become quite the chef. He couldn't even imagine what he would have thought if somebody told him he'd be doing this in high school.
"Alright, what are we having?" Sebastian asked, turning away from Blaine for a second. "We've got some leftovers, or we could make some pasta if you want. That's pretty quick and easy, though it could get a little messy. It wouldn't matter anyway, they'll be taking baths and-
"Blaine!" Dave gasped.
Sebastian spun around to find the entire bottle of glitter upturned and emptied onto the paper, the table and his lap. Blaine had gotten over his own initial surprise and was now enjoying how sparkly he looked. "I'm like Tink!" He beamed, grabbing a fistful of the shimmery sand and sprinkling it over his head. It nested into his black curls before he shook his head, sending them to the ground.
Sebastian groaned and tugged his chair out while Dave carefully removed his pants, keeping the glitter scooped in the fabric. He balled them up and laid them aside, then did the same with his shirt so that Blaine was clad in nothing but his pull-up. Sebastian took his hand and led him upstairs for an early bath.
"No more glitter!" David called up to him.
