Jaune's hair waved around his face as he walked around the hovercraft, nervously. He took a deep, calming, breath, or at least, it was supposed to be calming. Instead, it felt like he just swallowed a bunch of bumble bees and they were wrestling around in his stomach.
¨First time, kid?¨ the man next to him asked. Jaune nodded, not trusting himself to speak. Speaking might cause him to lose his lunch and he didn't need to be known by another group as vomit boy.
Ozpin sent Jaune off on a mission to capture some dangerous criminal that was doing something. Jaune honestly wasn't paying much attention when the man who was leading the attack team was telling him. Instead, he looked at the tattoos laced up and down his arm. Every time that the man flexed his muscles, the tattoos would stretch and he flexed his muscles a lot more than necessary. Jaune was seriously afraid that he would look like that in a few years with hanging out with these people.
¨What's your name, so we don't have to keep calling you kid. I mean, we still will, just now we'll know your name,¨ the man sitting across from him asked.
¨Jaune Arc,¨ he mumbled. The people on the ship uncomfortably shifted. They hunted him before. Maybe some of them were the ones looking for Jaune a few days back.
The awkward silence broken when someone laughed. Jaune looked up, surprised, so did some of the crew. Apparently, when a person at least half the people hunted is working together with his hunters was funny. Rude.
The girl laughing extended her hand. ¨Sorry about that, just when you look at it in my point of view, it's actually pretty funny.¨
Jaune shook her hand. ¨I can see why it would be funny, or, at least, ironic.¨ The girl held up his hand to the rest of the group.
¨Finally, someone with a sense of humor!¨ she shouted. Many of the others rolled their eyes, but smiled. Jaune decided that he would have to introduce this girl to his friends, they would like her.
Speaking of his friends, Jaune wondered if they knew he was back yet, if someone told them. Ruby was the only one that morning that he saw, or the only person that he had wanted to see. She might have said something to her sister or her team, or maybe they just figured out for themselves. His bed was slept in after all and he didn't make any effort to hide it.
A voice over the loudspeakers said,¨ Everyone get ready. We're opening the hatch.¨ Jaune followed everyone else and grabbed a parachute. The wind that was circulating through the hovercraft throughout the entire flight now increased tremendously as the bottom opened up and the rest of the flight circled around it.
¨See you on the ground,¨ someone called out and jumped. The others followed until Jaune and the man he was next to were the only ones left.
¨It's not as bad as you think,¨ he said, trying to calm Jaune down. It didn't work.
¨I'm going to die,¨ Jaune told him. The man threw his head back and laughed.
¨If so, go out in style.¨ With that, he jumped. Jaune took a deep breath and followed. The air rushed up and Jaune, blowing his hair back.
¨This is amazing!¨ he shouted. Someone laughed and whooped. The others below him started to activate their parachutes. Jaune waited a second or two, then pulled his. He felt a yank and then he went considerably slower. He caught up to the rest of the group.
¨Once we get to the ground, you got to be quite. The guy doesn't know that we're coming, so don't ruin that,¨ a boy told him. He looked probably about Jaune's age, maybe a bit older. Jaune nodded and closed his eyes.
He opened them again when the rest of the team hit the ground. They were in an alleyway in the city with run down buildings on either side. The team leader, who Jaune thought his name was Seb, but he could be wrong, motioned for the rest of the team to follow. They moved softly, like cats, and Jaune tried to mimic it. He spent years sneaking around, so that wasn't much of a problem.
Everyone of the team had weapon, everything from the ones they no doubt made themselves to military grade guns. Jaune's hand went to his side, where he kept his pistol. He didn't take his sword, he wasn't even suppose to bring his gun, he was just suppose to rely on his natural abilities, but they didn't always work the way he wanted them to. The gun was just backup that he hoped that he didn't need.
Seb knocked on the door and the rest of the team crouched down, hiding. They waited for about a minute before Seb shouted, ¨We're coming in.¨ He kicked down the door, causing a loud bang.
Jaune followed half of team inside the dark, dusty apartment, while the other half was outside, patrolling all sides of the building, making sure whoever this was didn't try to make a run for it.
Inside looked like no one lived in the building for years. Dust was covering everything, graffiti covered the walls, there was broken pieces of furniture, glass, and silverware everywhere.
¨Are you sure this is the right place, Seb?¨ someone asked, shining a light around.
¨Very sure, I had sources posted out here all week. They saw him enter and exit many times,¨ Seb whispered, keep his gun pointed at the door, waiting for anything to be stupid enough to poke it's head out.
Suddenly, something knocked over what looked sounded like a plate. It crashed to the ground and seemed to echo throughout the room. All weapons and lights were focused in on the spot. A tabby cat hissed and ran away. Jaune could almost see the tension in the room. This person must have been dangerous to have grown men, twice as big as Jaune, scared to death.
¨It was just a cat,¨ someone whispered.
¨Really?¨ someone else replied, sarcastically.
¨Shut up, would ya? If he didn't know we were here, well, he sure to have got the memo now,¨ Seb harshly told the group. Jaune was more alert that moment then he was for most of his life.
The group moved to the next room. It appeared to a bedroom, with a makeshift bed the only thing in the room. The blinds were open, making light from the fading sun shine through.
They didn't spend much time in there, Jaune wished they did, though. With every step, he felt himself growing more and more scared, afraid, all those ugly words. Maybe it wasn't too late to turn back. Nobody would blame him, they probably were all thinking the same things themselves.
No, if he left, there might not be a chance that everyone would survive, and if someone else died because of him, Jaune didn't think that he could live with himself.
There was a bathroom off to the side of the bedroom. Seb motioned for Jaune and another person, he recognized her as the girl from the flight to follow him. They made their way to the bathroom and pushed to door open.
Inside smelled awful and there was water on the ground, or at least Jaune hoped it was water. Both Seb and the girl brought their shirts up to their nose to block out the smell.
¨There's nothing here, let's go-¨ Seb stopped talking as the curtain moved.
¨Did you guys see that?¨ the girl asked. Jaune nodded.
¨Come out, we see you,¨ instead of coming out, the person behind the curtain shot at them. The three of them ducked and the bullet hit the wall behind them. Seb fired a shot at the curtain and ran out the of the bathroom, followed by the other two.
¨He's in here!¨ Jaune shouted. The others crowded around the door, pointing their guns at the shower.
¨Come out, it will be easier for both of us if you do,¨ Seb tried again. Jaune knew that wasn't going to work. This man didn't survive this long by obeying authority.
¨I die either way,¨ the voice called out.
¨Jaune,¨ Seb motioned for Jaune to go back there. Jaune took two steps forward, but he got pulled back. ¨Be careful. He's like you.¨
That's why they needed Jaune. They were going to fight fire with fire. This whole mission was resting on his shoulders and it made Jaune feel like he was suffocating under it's weight.
The curtain rustle as Jaune stepped back in the bathroom, the giant puddle splashing as he walked in it. As he got to feet away, the outline of no doubt a gun was pointed at him.
¨Get any closer and I'll shoot,¨ the man behind the curtain sounded didn't sound scared, but Jaune knew he was. The man was cornered and he knew it.
Jaune ducked down and ran head on were the gun was. He tackled the man, bringing the curtain down with them. They wrestled, Jaune was trying to stay on top of the man, while he was trying to get Jaune off of him and get his gun.
The gun fell under to the other side of the tub and Jaune was making sure that it stayed over there, away from where it could to any damage. He was definitely like Jaune, Jaune had never, ever felt any living human being fight him this much. It was like he was a monster, the way he thrashed around.
¨Jaune!¨ someone shouted. Jaune couldn't figure out why someone shouted his name. That is, until he realized that the man had figured out that somehow the man managed to tear his arms threw the curtain and tried to wrap his hands around Jaune's neck.
Jaune made the very unwise decisions to get off of the man and kick him in the stomach. It barely even phased his attacker as he kicked off the curtain. Jaune ducked and tried to see the person's face, but they were both moving too fast.
¨Stop this, please,¨ Jaune shouted and kicked again, but this time, in the shin. This time, the man fell to the ground, clutching his leg. He looked up to where Jaune was standing and Jaune sucked in a breath.
He knew him.
Hello! So I just got a tumblr, so if you want teasers for chapters and stuff like that, follow me under the same name. In other news, I moved into a new place, but my neighbors, for some strange reason, practice their drums at FOUR IN THE MORNING.
Remember to review. Love you
