Alright, guys. This is it.
As per usual, I didn't edit this, because I was so excited to share it.
I'm sure I'll reread this later and fix all of my mistakes, but for now, you'll simply have to deal.
Love you all.
Enjoy.

Kili

Kili was surprised when his uncle suggested he ride in the ambulance with Fili to the hospital. He'd figured that him or Bilbo would want to go, considering they were probably the closest to him, but he wasn't complaining. He wanted to be there for the blonde.

It was dark in the back of the vehicle, the speed they were going rocking them back and forth. Kili just let the paramedics do what they had to and let his head hang between his knees where he sat, gripping tightly onto one of Fili's limp hands. He felt a tear drip from his nose and wiped at his face, wishing that this stupid day had never happened. It had been perfectly fine until he'd gotten home from work to find Fili in such an awful mood. Maybe if he hadn't ever started fighting with him, none of this ever would have happened.

No. He couldn't think like that. It wasn't going to do anything for the older boy.

Kili lifted his head and wiped at his face again, trying to pull himself together, and gave the hand a reassuring squeeze, even though he knew it wouldn't be reciprocated.

Seconds turned into minutes, and the brunette felt as though they would never reach the hospital. He was hypersensitive to everything; headlights flashing through the windows as they drove, the paramedics rushing around, doing all they could to keep Fili alive, and the soft thump of the pulse in Fili's wrist. It was quickly becoming the longest drive Kili had ever sat through, or so it seemed.

Suddenly there was a loud, flat ringing sound.

Kili snapped his head up to look at the heart rate monitor, which now showed nothing but a long, flat line.

Fili's heart was giving up.

Kili released the older boy's hand and stood up, already panicking to the point of hyperventilation. "Help him!" he sobbed, his tears renewed. "He's dying. Please, please, please. You must help him!"

Whilst Kili continued to plead with the paramedics, they calmly ignored him and began working quickly to get Fili's heart working again. They tried CPR, which didn't last long, before they pulled out a defibrillator to try and shock his heart into working. He moved to stand behind Fili's head, which was the only vacant spot near him, and place his hands on either side of his face, rubbing encouraging thumbs over ginger-blonde scruff. "Come on, Fee," he mumbled, chin trembling with held-back emotions. "Please, please wake up. You have to fight through this. You have to live.. Please.. Please do it for me, Fili. You're my best friend, and your family needs you back, and I just.." His voice broke on a heavy sob, and he was lost on it, wracked with heaving breaths and loud, hysterical cries.

The paramedics looked worried, and Kili wanted to scream at the top of his lungs. He wanted to tell them to all just back off and let him handle it. He could get Fili to come back. Fili would come back for him… he knew it.

Just when everyone in the vehicle was about ready to lose hope, the heart rate monitor gave a short, shrill beep, followed by another, and another, and everyone stopped and took a breath, sighing in great relief. Kili broke into a huge, watery grin, leaning over to press his nose against Fili's, and wept.

Very shortly after that, they reached the hospital, and Kili followed them in as far as he was allowed, but as they pushed Fili's barely-breathing body through the swinging Emergency Room doors, the brunette faltered and simply watched them swing shut once more. He didn't move again until he felt a large, warm hand grip his shoulder and guide him to sit down on a hard, plastic chair.

They were all in for a very long night.

Fili

When Fili woke up, he was pretty sure he was dead, or at least close to it.

"Fili! He's waking up."

"Come on, son. Open your eyes."

The voices speaking to him seemed familiar but distant, and he wasn't sure if it was real or just in his head. His entire body felt numb, and even the thought of opening his eyelids sounded like the impossible, but someone really wanted him to wake up. It sounded important.

"Fee?"

This voice sounded closer, and something within him woke up at the soft sound.

"Fee, wake up for us. Let us see those pretty blue eyes of yours."

The blonde felt a smile tilt his lips before he blinked open his eyes, the sight of Kili's excited, boyish face looming over him.

"Kee?" He let his eyelids flutter shut once again as he croaked out the word, his voice barely working due to the pain and tiredness that was wracking his body.

"Yeah, Fee, it's me. And Thorin and Bilbo are here too. Tauriel, Legolas and the others are waiting for you out in the waiting room. We are all here for you."

"Hmmm…" Fili breathed out, trying to reposition himself to something a little more comfortable, but his body didn't seem to want to work with him. "What happened?"

"Uhmm…" The brunette's voice took on a more nervous tone, as if he didn't want to reply. "Well, um… Fili… you sort of got into an accident. Do you remember anything?"

A memory of blinding pain flashed across Fili's mind, and he still didn't open his eyes, but whined and held a hand out, seeking comfort. It was quickly taken up by a small, soft pair of hands, which he guessed to be Bilbo's.

"Barely," he finally spoke, his breathing labored. "I remember being in the warehouse with Sabine and Jared… and something about police lights, but other than that all I can recall is a lot of pain."

"Not shocking," came Thorin's deep, soothing timber. "You went through a lot, Fili. You're very lucky to still be alive."

"And we are very lucky too," Bilbo added.

For a moment Fili remained silent and completely unresponsive. It's not that he didn't want to wake up and speak to his family, but he didn't have a lot of energy. It was taking his everything just to stay awake, and in the end, he couldn't even control that. He heard a soft 'Go back to sleep, Fee. Rest.' before slipping back into a heavy slumber.

It was a few hours before Fili regained consciousness again, and this time he felt a lot better. When he blinked his eyes open he quickly noticed that Thorin and Bilbo had left, and he was now being kept company by a very emotional-looking redhead and a slumbering Kili.

"Tauriel," Fili hummed, reaching out to grab her hand.

She flinched, not having noticed that he was awake, but quickly reached out to clutch his searching fingers, a soft smile gracing her lips. "Fili. I've been thinking that perhaps you would never wake."

He smirked, rubbing a thumb across her knuckles. "How could I not wake for you? You deserve it. I've put you through so much shit the past few weeks."

"And what about him?" Tauriel responded, tilting her head in Kili's direction.

The boy was clearly sleeping heavily, and he had his head resting on the edge of Fili's hospital bed, his arms draped out in front of him and over Fili's legs. There was a small wet spot on the white sheets where he had drooled, and his hair was a mess. It was adorable.

"He's my world," the blonde replied simply, leaning his head far back into the pillows.

God, his head hurt.

Tauriel's grin widened, and she lifted his hand to her lips, giving it a warm, kind kiss.

"Hey, um… Tauriel?"

"Mhmm?"

"What happened to me?"

Tauriel let out a shaky breath, and a tear slipped slowly down her face. The pain in her eyes made Fili's breath catch, and for a moment he wished he'd never said anything.

"You got into an accident, Fili."

"So I've been told."

"And uh…" she continued, using her free hand to tuck her loose hair behind an ear, "you came out alive, but you're not in the best condition. You were ejected from the car and went through a window, so of course you have the typical wounds: cuts, bruises, a few broken bones, but… and…" She trailed off. Giving her friend a worried glance.

"Go on."

"You also have some major injuries, Fili," she sighed, now gripping his shaking hand with both of hers. "Oh, I do not wish to tell you. It hurts so much."

"Please," Fili pleaded, meeting her shining eyes with his own tired ones.

"Lacerations," she spat out, after he'd barely finished speaking, gesturing towards his gauze-wrapped arms. "Heavy blood loss, a shattered ankle, your collar bone is cracked in two places," she listed off, not even giving Fili a second to register each thing she said, "a concussion, a broken nose, and a spinal cord injury. You may never walk again."

Fili couldn't even think. She'd said so many things - so many terrible, horrific things - but he didn't feel that bad. He should feel like he was in pure, agonizing pain, but he mostly felt numb and sore. She had to be messing with him.

"Why doesn't it hurt?" he mumbled out, once again wishing he'd never spoken.

"Well, you can't feel anything below your waist because of the damage to your spinal cord, and besides that, the doctors have pumped more than enough drugs into you to sedate an elephant."

Upon trying to move one of his legs, Fili quickly found that she was right. He couldn't move at all; not even a twitch.

"No," he whispered, purely in denial. "No, this can't be happening." "It's okay, Fili," she spoke, trying to amend her harsh words. It was then that Kili began groaning and shifting in his sleep, slowly coming to at the sound of their raised voices. "You can still use your arms and hands. Really, you can use everything above your waist. That's what really matters. You can still be an artist."

"No," Fili repeated firmly, glancing at the pretty brunette as he sat up and yawned, looking between Fili and Tauriel, as if trying to figure out what was going on and why they were so upset. "I'm too young to be handicapped. I want to be able to run and hike and go swimming at the beach. I won't be able to drive or walk to the coffeeshop, and let's not even get started on my sex life."

Tauriel looked lost for words. She knew there was no way to console him. The pain he was feeling went far beyond immediate healing.

Kili, however, did speak. "Fee?"

Fili turned back to Kili, who now looked sad and worried. It broke the blonde's heart to see him looking so upset, when only moments before he had been sleeping peacefully. "Kili."

The younger boy stood out of his seat and leaned down to cup Fili's face, a desperate and worried look in his eyes. "I'm so sorry, Fee. I'm sorry this happened to you. If I could fix it, I would. I'm sorry, Fee, sorry… you don't deserve this, you don't…" and he broke down into sobs, his head dropping and tears sliding off of his face to fall onto the sheets draped over Fili's broken body.

"Oh, my Kili. It's okay. It's not your fault at all. It's nobody's fault. You are not to blame," Fili hurriedly replied, before placing his own hands over Kili's cheeks and pulling the him down into a slow and desperate meeting of lips. He tried his best to pour all of the love and thankfulness he possibly could into the kiss, tears falling and wetting both of their faces.

Three Months Later

After a month in the hospital and two months more of recovery and physical therapy, Fili finally felt ready to try.

After a couple of weeks in the hospital, the blonde had remembered everything, down to the very moment where he'd gone through the window and blacked out. He'd been in wrecks before, and nothing had quite damaged him like that one. He'd almost died.

However, not all that had resulted from the crash was bad. Both Sabine and Jared had died in the accident, and for that, Fili was beyond thankful. He could live with his family and Kili in peace, and nobody would ever be bothered by them again. Fili would finally be able to move on.

Also, despite the fact that the injuries had been a horrible burden for weeks and weeks, he was healing really well. Everyone was so surprised at his quick recovery, and even though the doctors had told him he'd doubtfully ever be able to use his legs again, here he was, giving it a shot.

"Come on, Fee," Kili cooed, reaching his arms out and gesturing for the blonde to move towards him. "You can do it."

"Kili, I'm not a baby," the blonde huffed out, trying not to sound too annoyed. Kili was excited for him, and he didn't want to hurt the boy's feelings. "Even if it is like I'm just learning how to walk."

The brunette rolled his eyes and dropped his arms back down to his sides. "I'm just happy for you. It's exciting. If you can make it all the way into my arms, it will honestly be such a huge success, and I think that's really awesome."

"I know," Fili replied with a fond smile. Kili was right. It was exciting.

So, without further ado, the blonde pushed himself out of his wheelchair, standing on his own for the first time in three months. Adrenaline powered through him, and he swallowed heavily before taking the first tentative step forward.

"That's it."

"Kili…"

"Sorry."

Fili let out a long breath he didn't know he'd been holding, and he took another step. He was doing it! He was walking on his own, and it wasn't even hurting him.

He placed his feet step after step, one in front of the other, very carefully, until he'd made it all the way to his beautiful Kili, and the arms that embraced him, the voice that shouted with pure joy, was the best feeling in the world. He wouldn't have traded it for anything.

"Come on, Fee! Let's go celebrate."

Feedback is always lovely. And I promise this isn't the end! There will be some short add-on pieces soon to come, so look out for those!
