I should Kill him part 9

Kathryn held the vial in her hand watching the smokey purple liquid swirl around.

"What is it?" She asked the men in the room.

"We know it is a drug that, according to the doctor has similar effects; according to the doctor, the narcotic PCP or Angel Dust as its more commonly known as." Chakotay offered.

"We do not yet know what the Talarins called it or how mister Paris became acquainted with the substance. We will have to wait until he is well enough to speak to us." Tuvok explained.

"Angel Dust? Hell of a misnomer. How bad is Tom?" Kathryn asked.

"Pretty bad Captain. He must have been taking it for some time to be dealing with this kind of withdrawal."

"Do you want to have Lieutenant Torres notified of the situation?"

"I will speak with her." Kathryn paced back and forth in sickbay.

She couldn't figure out how the man could be as dense and self-destructive as he is. She took him from the penal colony and brought him on Voyager as a favor to his father as well as needing his inside knowledge of the Maquis. Demoted him several months ago and threw him in the brig twice on this journey and now he is taking drugs and swings at her and what he did to B'Elanna. The fact that this was drug induced didnt' quell the rage in her gut. She still wanted to kick his balls into his throat but she couldn't. Not now.

B'Elanna made her way to the couch walking gingerly. She was in a lot of discomfort. She wanted to crawl out of her skin she was so uncomfortable. She thought about going for a walk but the journey from Kathryn's desk to the couch was agonizingly slow. She wondered what Kathryn was doing right now.

"Torres to Janeway."

"Go ahead Lieutenant."

She must have others around her.

"Captain when you have a moment could you stop by. I have a personal matter to talk to you about."

There was a pause on the other end.

"I will be there momentarily. Janeway out."

B'Elanna smiled and swung her legs up on the couch and grabbed the book off the coffee table.

Harry walked down the corridor toward the Brig. He wanted to see how Tom was doing. He had to find out what was going through the mans head. He was his friend but something was amiss. He walked into the Brig and over to Tom's cell. The Doctor was in there running a scan on him.

"Doctor?"

"Hello Mr. Kim. If you came to speak with Mr. Paris I am afraid you will have to come back later. He is in no condition to speak with anyone." He walked out of the cell with a flicker of the force field.

Harry looked past him at Tom laying curled up sweating profusely with signs of vomit on the floor. To say it scared him was understating it.

"Whats wrong with him Doc?"

"That Mr. Kim is what withdrawal and a system cleansing looks like."

"Is he going to live?"

"Of course. unfortunately I don't know enough about the substance he was using to tell how long it will take for it to completely leave his system. He will be fine Harry it will just take time."

"Thanks Doc."

Harry sighed and left the brig with the Doctor.

"Hey Doc can I ask you something?"

"Of course Harry. I can't promise I will be allowed to answer, but if I can I will."

"I have been haveing some seriously bad feelings about what Tom did to end up where he is. Now he was in there before Chakotay and Tuvok came to speak with me so I know its not the drugs that landed him there initially."

"That is true however I can not tell you exactly what he did."

"I understand that but can you indulge me if I am in the ball park."

"I am sure I can."

Harry stopped and looked at the Hologram.

"Doc did he hurt someone? Real bad?"

The Doctor looked at him. He clapped a hand on the young mans shoulder. and took a serious tone.

"Mr. Kim what Paris did is not only hurt someone physically but emotionally and mentally. It is inexcusable and do not be surprised if he doesn't leave that cell for quite sometime. I can not tell you more than that."

Harry nodded his understanding. He thanked the Doctor and made his way to his quarters.

Kathryn walked in her quarters unzipping her uniform jacket as she went. She smiled at B'Elanna who was sitting on the couch reading a book.

"Hey 'Lanna how do you feel?"

"Extremely uncomfortable. I have moved I can't tell you how many times."

"I am so sorry sweetie. Can I get you anything?"

B'Elanna patted the seat next to her gesturing to have Kathryn come sit with her. Kathryn slumped down on the couch and pulled B'Elanna's feet into her lap.

"What can I do to help?"

"Nothing. . . I really wanted to know if you found anything out?"

Kathryn Looked down at her lap and cleared her throat. She knew she had to tell B'Elanna what she found out but how to go about it was the hardest pert of this.

"' Lanna when did you notice Tom first acting strangely?"

B'Elanna sat back and thought. It had been for awhile.

"I guess it started after our first night of shore leave on Talaris. He and I travelled around the watering holes and market. One guy came up to Tom and was talking to him for a long time because i went and looked at four or five different vendors and when i got back to Tom he was just leaving. The second day Tom came down by himself and didn't come back till I was in bed. And he got weird from there. Why?"

""Lanna what I am about to tell you is going to cause some serious emotions and confusion. I want you to lean on me and stay here with me ok?"

"Um. . . OK."

"'Lanna Tom has been taking drugs. A substance that has cause alot if not all of his strange behavior. It is partly to blame for his attack on you the other night."

Kathryn grabbed B'Elanna's hands and held them to her chest. B'Elanna sat gobsmacked. She was at a loss for words. Tears spilled down her cheeks but she just stared into Kathryn's eyes. Moments passed before the younger woman could speak.

"How. . . Ar. . .Whe. . .Are you positive? Drugs?"

"B'Elanna I'm so sorry sweetie."

B'Elanna just sat. Kathryn ran her hand over the younger woman's back. B'Elanna looked back into Kathyrn's eyes.

"What happens now?"

"Well. . . He is still in the brig under the Doctors care for the withdrawal he is going through. He will be punished."

"Kathryn. I am well with in my right to kill him. As by my heritage he should be dead already. Twice actually. For what he did to me and you."

B'Elanna was visibly shaking. nostrils flaring. Knuckles white. Her Klingon blood running hot. Kathryn was positive if she put her ear to her chest her hearts would be pounding. Kathryn squatted in front of her and held her face in her hands.

"Sweetie I know you are. I also know that you wont because that would mean I would have to lock you in the brig. I also know that you don't trust anyone to take control of engineering. Promise me 'Lanna that you wont do anything rash."

B'Elanna wiped the tears from her face. She wanted to kill the man she really did. She looked down into Kathryn's pleading face. She knew there was alot more that wasnt being said. She can see the pleading in her eyes. She didnt want to be away from her.

"Can I at least break his nose?"

Kathryn smirked. She knew it was a legitimate question coming from the Klingon woman but not one she could answer.

"I can not give you permission to hurt another person 'Lanna no matter how big an asshole that person is. But I can say what I dont know about I can not address."

B'Elanna wrapped her arms around Kathryn's neck and held her tight. Kathryn's arms snaked around her waist.

"I want to go lay down."

Kathryn stood back and let her go. B'Elanna stood up and reached out to Kathryn.

"Come with me?"

Kathryn smiled and took her hand. The two women changed and cuddled in bed together. Kathryn wrapped her arms around B'Elanna's waist and pulled her close so that her back was pressed to her chest.

"Kathryn?"

"Hm?"

"I want to go see him tomorrow."

Kathryn pulled her tighter.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. I need to look into his face. I want to know why."

"Ok. We will go when ever you are ready."
