"Come on guys, we can get out of here! Just be careful and follow me!" a girl of African descent shouted as she pushed the rubble out of the way. "The path is clear, hurry!" She was frantic as her friends tried to see through the smoke and ash in the air. They could barely breathe, and the same went for her.

"We're almost there!" She said, guiding them through the way.

"Guys, go faster!" A boy with a slight lisp said as I went past the other two of their friends.

"I can't! I can't see anything!"

"It's okay, your path is clear, trust me!" The girls said, trying her best to help them.

As soon as she said that, they heard a cracking noise from above. Time seemed to stop as part of the ceiling broke, causing damaged metal and wood to collapse on top of the two who were blinded by the smoke. The boy with the lisp and the girl were fine, but the other two had been entirely crushed by the debris. All the other two could see were their clenched hands.

The girl stood there in horror for what seemed like hours.

"Hey, we have to get out of here! It's not any safer than it was!"

But she didn't budge.

No, no.. They can't be dead, right? They can't be dead! She thought as she collapsed in front of the bodies. The bodies of her best friends. With ash coating her hair and embers singing her skin, she let out an antagonizing shriek. Tears streaked down her face as she tried to reach for her friends to feel for a pulse.

"No, don't get close-!" the boy said frantically, reaching to pull her away. Right when he did, however, more rubble collapsed on top of her. He heard a shriek as he rushed to clear the rubble off of her. By this point, he was a nervous wreck.

In getting the scorching debris off of her, he immediately noticed that she wasn't responding. He felt for a pulse on her neck, hoping that he'd find something.

But he didn't.

In a panicked manner, he lifted her body up and rushed to navigate through the flames and ash. He nearly tripped several times, and he was an emotional wreck. Even if she were dead, he didn't want the flames to consume her body as they would the others.

Almost there... Wait, do I hear sirens? Please tell me I hear sirens... Maybe they can help her! He thought as he rushed to get to the entrance of the school. He got outside to see paramedics waiting to help those who made it outside.

"Oh thank god! You have to help her, please! I didn't feel a pulse, but she may still be alive.." He said when he ran up to the paramedics.

"Calm down, everything's fine now. We'll help her, sir, she's in good hands now."

"Thank you so much!" he said, relieved. Another paramedic came up to him and told him they needed to check his vitals. She gave him a bottle of water that they had brought and then proceeded to make sure his vitals were normal.
