Morning came in no time. To Rose, it felt like she had only been asleep for a second. As usual, she awoke earlier than her alarm clock. Sometimes I wish I could sleep at least to the sound of the beeping. But hey, at least I don't have to hear the annoying buzzing, were her thoughts on the subject.
It seemed quiet in the house. Normally, either Roxy or Dirk would have been up by now. She shrugged it off and stood up to go look out of her window. Pulling back the blinds, she immediately saw that it was raining. She stood there for a good five minutes, listening to the soft pitter patter of the rain on the roof. Something was very calming about the sound- it made her want to go back to sleep. But she couldn't; she had to go ahead and get ready for school. Oh how she dreaded driving to school in this weather.
…
Rose and Dave went to meet up with John and Jade where they decided to meet this year, which was outside of the auditorium. Rose noticed that John seemed to be carrying on about something to Jade, and he looked super excited.
"What's up with you today, Egbert?" Dave said, taking his backpack off and setting it on the floor. It was a good ten minutes before the bell to go to class rang.
"Dude, you're never gonna guess what I got in the mail!" John exclaimed, nearly jumping up and down at this point. Jade sighed a little bit; Rose could tell she had heard about it all morning. Before Dave could even say anything, John said "I got the beta copy of Sburb!" he grinned.
"Oh man, are you serious?! Have you played it yet? What's the gameplay like?" Dave replied, getting excited himself. He definitely just geeked out. Now Rose had something else to mock him with. Jade just looked at Rose and shrugged. Rose chuckled and shook her head, mouthing "boys" to Jade and rolling her eyes.
"It's SO cool! Since it's just the beta I can do whatever I want. The gameplay is so neat!" He almost yelled, smiling.
"Please, do go on, John," Rose said.
"Okay! So you guys obviously know it's an MMORPG. Well, it's set in a medieval town... village... thing, and you and your friends can all be in the same town. The town will be set to private to anybody but your friends that you invite. Now, that being said, you're already all in a group together! So when you do quests, you're never behind or ahead. And if you talk to NPCs together, you get to pick what you want to say to them! There's a roll to see who's choice gets said; It's totally random, too. And depending on the choice depends on that one persons morality, since it was their choice. So like, say if Rose chose to be sarcastic to the NPC; hers could either go up or down. Dave, if you were a smartass, it'd go down. And Jade, if you were nice, it'd go up!" the geeky boy explained to the others.
"Duuuude it sounds so awesome! What about the god tiers?" Dave asked.
"Oh yeah! So, when you're creating the character, you take a personality test of your own. That determines your god tier which you have no way of knowing before you go on the god tier quests! It's pretty neat. Another cool feature is the occupations; I'll use you as an example, Dave. Say you chose to be a blacksmith-" "Hells yeah I would," "-...ahem. Well, you get to interact with the materials just like how an actual blacksmith would. So you actually hammer the sword into it's shape, dip it into the water, and everything! And along with that, you can customize it!"
"THAT IS SO SICK!" Dave shouted. "Man, you suck for getting the beta!"
"Well, at least he'll be able to show us all some things we don't understand when we start playing, right?" Jade asked. Rose nodded in agreement.
Before the four could say anything else, the bell to go to class rang. John got frustrated; he obviously wanted to talk about Sburb more, but he'd get over it sooner or later. Dave seemed kind of bummed as well. It'd take him longer to get over it than John, though.
Rose said goodbye to her friends and went off to her History class. There was no more homeroom until it was time for report cards, which was in three months. Rose was glad for that. She had more time in her classes that were actually interesting this semester. Next semester were the boring ones.
The Lalonde walked into her classroom; She was the third one in there. Karkat and Kanaya were already in there. Since now they could sit anywhere in the classroom, she decided to sit next to Kanaya. She didn't know anybody else in the class anyway, and Kanaya seemed to enjoy sitting near the front as well.
"Good morning, Kanaya. Good morning, Karkat," Rose said as she sat down. Something about Kanaya's posture told Rose that she wouldn't mind her sitting there, anyway.
"What's so good about it?" Karkat growled. "Didn't you hear about what that Serket bitch did yesterday?"
"Karkat, she was there. Rose got Vriska to leave me be," Kanaya sternly said. She then turned to Rose. "Thank you very much for that. She stopped texting me, finally, after that incident. I do think that she actually believes that I have a boyfriend." she laughed a little while she said the last part.
"It wasn't a problem, I'm just glad I could help," Rose smiled. "If she bothers you again just let me know. My friend John can probably annoy her half to death."
"Wait, did you say John?" Karkat asked. Rose nodded. "Is that the annoying kid with the nerd glasses who talks about nothing but Nic Cage and Ghostbusters?" Rose nodded again. "OH MY GOD. I've only known him for ONE day and I already can't stand him!"
"He's really not that bad, he just has his moments. Today he was talking about how he got the beta for Sburb. He'll probably be talking about it later, so heads up for that." Rose said.
"Oh GOD," Karkat groaned, slamming his face on his desk. Kanaya reached over and patted his shoulder lightly, which seemed to calm him down a little bit. She sighed and looked at Rose, shaking her head. Rose snickered a bit.
The bell to start class rang and the rest of the kids took their seats. Mr. Deuce came in briefly after the bell. Of course, someone in the class said "You're late, Mr. Deuce!", but he simply rolled his eyes and started writing on the board.
"Well, I guess we'd better shut up now, huh?" Rose joked. Kanaya nodded with a laugh, and the two proceeded to get notebooks out to take notes.
…
Class was over in what seemed like hours upon hours. Karkat groaned, but it wasn't an annoyed groan, it was more like a relieved one. Which made Rose wonder; How can someone have different blatantly obvious groans like that? She shrugged it off, though. It wasn't her business.
"Hey, Rose, hold on a second," Kanaya said as she caught up with Rose, who was at the door. "You sure are eager to get to your next class." She said, smiling.
"Oh, yeah. I have Psychology, I've been waiting to take this class for two years now so I'm excited for it," the Lalonde replied.
"Ah! That does sound pretty interesting. Do you do that project where you carry around the bag of sugar as your 'baby' for a week?" Kanaya questioned.
"I'm pretty sure we do, yeah. Why do you ask?"
"They did that at Alternia. I remember before my sister graduated, she had to do that. She acted like it was her own child, while Karkat's brother nagged on her about how it was just a sack of sugar. He was the 'dad,' which is... kind of funny. Karkat made fun of him for it so much," Kanaya laughed. Rose laughed at the thought of it too; it sounds like something that Dirk would do and Dave would make fun of him for it. Or the other way around.
"That's actually pretty hilarious," Rose said, still chuckling. "But I believe we should go to class now. There's five minutes left to get there."
"Yeah, we probably should. Have a good day, Rose," Kanaya said as she waved goodbye.
"You have a good day as well," Rose said, waving back in return. She smiled and started walking to her class.
I'm surprised she's so nice, compared to some of the other kids here. Rose thought on her way to Psychology. She thought about that for quite sometime before she even realized she was still thinking about it. And smiling, at that. Which was weird. Rose didn't smile for no reason. She figured it was still from Kanaya talking about Karkat making fun of his brother, so she shrugged it off. It didn't seem like a big deal to her..
..At the moment, at least.
