Weeks had gone by in what seemed like no time. Kanaya had become a close friend of Roses', and they talked everyday. They had even started texting each other after school. Rose, Jade, and Dave had all gotten their own copies of Sburb and started playing with John almost on a daily basis, in which a few of Dave's friends joined occasionally. In game they were visiting from other villages and kingdoms. Rose eventually found out that Gamzee Makara and Tavros Nitram, two of Rose's classmates, were playing with them, along with Karkat, who Gamzee had persuaded to join. Karkat seemed to enjoy it, even though he said he really didn't. Rose figured that Dave had met Gamzee and Tavros during some sort of rap battle.
Rose kind of wondered who else from the school played Sburb. She was content with the group they had now. It was the perfect amount of people, actually. Any more and it would probably become chaotic. A guild would be nice at this point, so that way there could be guild missions but it would only be every-so-often.
It was a Saturday morning and Rose had logged onto her Sburb character. She, Dave, Jade, and John hadn't reached the medium in the game yet. They were still in their village, leveling up and doing quests. In game, Rose was a librarian and a writer. It was the best thing that fit her in the first half of the game.
She went to her shop and opened it up, seeing that a few of the NPC villagers had wanted to buy some books on Grimoire lore. Rose made sure the books made it impossible for the villagers to summon anything. She thought it was cool that the NPC villagers had minds of their owns, but they could definitely get out of hand sometimes.
She sold the books to the villagers for the price of 50 silver pieces each. It wasn't that much seeing as silver was the main currency. 100 copper pieces were equivalent to 1 silver piece, while 100 silver pieces were the equivalent of 1 gold piece. There was a mythical diamond piece that players could get too if they had enough gold pieces, but they had to have a LOT of gold pieces. Rose deemed it impossible while John tried to rack up all the gold pieces he could.
Rose made her character sit down at her desk and start writing. It was pretty fun to write in-game about the characters adventures. The villagers seemed to lean towards Rose's original in-game writing, but it was obvious that it was in the AI of the NPCs. She didn't mind, though, since it got her more money for new materials.
She was so focused on writing, that she didn't realize she had a message in-game from carcinoGeneticist, who was Karkat, until he started spamming her. She opened up the messages and wrote "Calm down, Vantas, I'm reading your messages now. Give me a minute." After a few seconds, he replied "OKAY. JUST HURRY IT UP." she sighed. How Kanaya was friends with him, she had no idea.
She opened up the first message from him and started to read.
HEY, ROSE, I WAS WONDERING IF YOU GUYS WOULD MIND IF I GOT KANAYA TO PLAY WITH US. SHE ACTS LIKE SHE WANTS TO PLAY AND I'VE BEEN TEACHING HER HOW TOO, SO IS IT COOL? THANKS. -KARKAT
Then she read some of his other messages, which consisted of things like "WILL YOU REPLY ALREADY?" "OH MY FUCKING GOD ROSE YOU TAKE FOREVER" "GOD DAMMIT YOU GOT ABSORBED IN YOUR WRITING AGAIN DIDN'T YOU" "ROSE IF YOU DON'T REPLY I'M GOING TO SET YOUR FUCKING VILLAGE ON FIRE"
Rose laughed at a lot of them. She clicked the reply button and typed "Yes, Karkat, I'm fine with it and I'm sure the others will be as well. I'm assuming her trade is going to be the tailor of the village?" She pressed send and started writing her book again. About ten minutes later, she got a reply saying "OKAY, COOL. AND WASN'T THAT A GIVEN? I SWEAR SHE'S OBSESSED WITH THAT SHIT. NOT COMPLAINING THOUGH. SHE STITCHES UP MY CLOTHES ALL THE TIME. AH SHIT. OKAY YOU DIDN'T HEAR THAT. ER, READ IT. JUST FORGET I SAID THAT." Rose laughed and replied "Oh don't worry, I didn't hear anything." Then, she went back to writing once more. Karkat didn't reply and she knew he was pissed because of her smart ass remark.
After she finished writing, she got two requests. One was a friend request from Kanaya, who's username was grimAuxiliatrix. She obviously accepted it. The next was from Kanaya again, which was a request to move into the village. Rose once again accepted, and she met Kanaya's character at the village gate. In the chat, she typed "Hello, Kanaya. I see you're only level 5. Would you like some help to catch up with the others and I?" It took Kanaya a while to respond, but eventually she was able to type "Yes. That Would Be Lovely."
Rose led Kanaya to an area outside of the village where there were higher level monsters. She went with her because she knew it'd be harder for Kanaya to kill them, since she was a lower level. With the help of Rose, within a few hours, Kanaya was caught up to level 10 as Rose and the others were. So, now, she could pick a trade. Of course, it was obvious to Rose that she would choose to be the tailor of the village. And she was right about it.
She had to be honest; it was kind of cute how Kanaya loved fashion so much. Rose had looked through a sketchbook of Kanaya's in class before, and it was full of designs for shirts, pants, dresses, and anything else that you could imagine that she had planned to make when she got the materials. It was almost like how Rose loved to knit. Mainly scarves, but it was still some sort of clothing that she was making.
"Thank You For Helping Me, Rose. What Is Your Occupation Here?" Kanaya typed in the chat. Rose explained that she was the librarian of the village and basically the historian of the group, because she wrote about the adventures. She thought it was fun to pretend she was actually writing for the NPCs, so she did.
"So, you know how every village is unique in the surrounding areas, right?" Rose asked through the chat. Before Kanaya could respond, she continued. "Well, follow me, there's a really cool place that looks beautiful." And just like that, she was walking through the village gate. Kanaya scuttled after her. "Is This Necessary?" she asked. "Of course. If it weren't, I wouldn't be showing it to you."
Now, the game was already very realistic. But when Rose showed Kanaya the lake on top of the mountain that she had found while she was exploring, it was almost too amazing to even look like it was from reality. "Whoa. That Is Quite Amazing," Kanaya typed. "I Wish There Was A Place Like This Near Where We Live." After admiring the area, the two girls messed around. They showed off their characters dances, which were actually very silly, and they also fished too see who could catch the bigger fish. Kanaya caught a turtle, while Rose caught seaweed. Talk about eventful.
They goofed off for about a good hour. Then, Kanaya said "I'm Sorry, But I Have To Leave Now. My Mom Needs To Talk To Me." Rose said that was fine, and that she'd talk to her later. They said their goodbyes and Kanaya logged off. Rose then went back to the village and went to sell some useless stuff in her inventory and buy some new things. After that, she decided that she had been on for way too long and logged off as well.
"Maybe it would be good to actually go out somewhere. ...Eh. Or work on my actual writing. That works too." Rose spoke to herself. She decided to go with her writing, and spent the rest of her day writing bad wizard fanfiction.
