Well, that was an ordeal...
It took fifteen minutes just to get them to leave me alone and go back to work. They thought I was dying or something. It was just water, it happens to people all the time. And what's worse, they saw me kissing Ryuzaki. At least I think they did. No one said anything, but I got some funny looks from Matsuda. That idiot, I doubt he even saw anything. Why did dad have to let him tag along anyway? What could he possibly do to help, even if I was choking or something?
Stand there, blubbering nonsense, like an imbecile. That seemed most likely.
Oh, crap! I wonder if Dad saw us? Oh, God, I hope not. What would he say? I seriously could have lived the rest of my life without having to deal with all of this. I can't believe I even did that in the first place! Why the hell would I kiss him?
The image of Ryuzaki on top of him, pressing bruised lips against his own, flashed in his head. Light felt his face heat up. He remembered his confused realization that he might have feelings for L as well. He quickly squashed those feelings and sent a small glare in the detective's direction.
I was wrong; I'm not gay. I don't like him. I feel nothing for him! Nothing at all. This has all just been a strange, momentary lapse in judgment. That's all it is. Nothing more.
Damn, this is embarrassing...
I just let that damn detective trick me into kissing him. And I bet he's just waiting to rub it in, mock me, and up my 'Kira' percentage. Ugh! Stupid Ryuzaki. Stupid! I hate him. I hate him!
God, this is so embarrassing...
"Is something bothering you, Light?" The boy in question turned sharply to look at the detective that drew him from his inner despair.
Why that little...
"Of course not, Ryuzaki," he informed in a faux, surprised voice. "Why would something be bothering me?" At that, the detective turned to look straight at Light, it was obvious to him that something was up. And just how obvious was it? Well...
"Well, there's the fact that you've been staring at the same document for the past thirty minutes," he stated. Light cursed himself for forgetting about his work in favor of his inner turmoil. Ryuzaki turned back to his own computer.
"Also, ever since your father and Matsuda left this room you've been giving me sideways glances. Not so friendly ones, actually." He looked to Light again, spinning his chair to face him head on.
"So, care to tell me what it is that's bothering you? And why it makes you angry with me?" Light was only slightly surprised at L's deduction.
Well, shit...
So, what to say to this? Well, in reality, Light had absolutely no idea. L's watchful eye and careful deduction left little room for him to make up some logical excuse. But, that didn't mean it was impossible.
"Honestly, Ryuzaki, I'm not angry with you," Light reasoned. "I don't understand why you think that." Just because it wasn't impossible to make up an excuse, didn't mean he could think of one right away.
"Then what reason do you have to explain your behavior?" Light's eye twitched. Oh, he had a reason. A very good reason, actually. A 'reason' that wouldn't leave him alone. That constantly barged in on all his thoughts. A 'reason' that really needed to shut its mouth so Light didn't hit that particular 'reason'.
"Well?"
That's it!
"I'm not mad, Ryuzaki," Light stated with false calm, trying to keep the edge out of his voice. L, however, was not convinced.
"I don't believe you, Light. You are angry, whether you admit it or not."
"You know, you're not always right," the student growled. L quirked an eyebrow at his tone. Well, there went Light's calm.
"That's irrelevant. And you sound quite angry, Light. Are you going to tell me why?"
"I told you, I'm not angry!" Light huffed, glaring at the detective. He only gave the boy an unimpressed look.
The two continued to stare each other down. L looking slightly amused at the boy; and Light looking like he wanted to rip the other's head off. Tension hung around the pair. Obviously, someone was going to snap if this continued. That 'someone' was probably going to be Light. But, as it was, it seemed nothing was going to be further said. So, with a roll of his eyes, Light huffed to himself and turned back to his computer screen.
"Are you angry because you kissed me?"
A/N: Haha! Cliffhanger! :) This was such a hard chapter to start, but after I got to the actual conversation, it got easier. Sorry it took so long.
