It was a cold winter morning. Rose lived in a city that wasn't too far from where her hometown was. She had moved there to avoid people from her school knowing who she was; Seeing as now, she was an author who was becoming popular quite quickly. In 10 years, her looks had changed quite a bit. She had taken on a very different fashion sense, though still with a "gothic" flare to it. She stopped straightening her hair, and commonly wore it back in a bun with her bangs parted to the left side of her face. Roxy had also made her dye her hair brown. Weird, but she went with it. Oh, and she wore glasses now instead of contacts.

Now, in no way was Rose over Kanaya. She was far from it. The past 10 years had been hell without her. It was mainly because they hadn't broken up, but they had lost contact. She didn't know what happened to Kanaya; Was she alive? Did she totally forget about her? Was she married? Did she hate her? These were the thoughts that bothered Rose on a daily basis, and she hated it. She at least wanted to know something, the reason being that she was still madly in love with her.

Things had gotten better for Rose, though. She had published three books; A whole trilogy based off of a high school play that had been put on at Skaia High. They were now best selling books, and she was becoming more and more famous by the minute. Her passion for writing had been sparked again after the books began to sell, and she started to revamp old ideas that she had in the past and make them even better than they originally were.

While she did think of Kanaya on a daily basis, it wasn't enough to consume her mind entirely. She was able to power through the day, and think about Kanaya at night. (A/N: No, not in a sexual way, ya nasties. ...Okay, probably in a sexual way. But that's none of my business. *Sips tea*)

Most of the time, Rose would go to a local coffee shop around the block from her apartment complex. She was pretty much the only business that they had besides Eridan, who lived in the same apartment complex. He knew who she was, and she knew who he was, but they didn't really ever talk besides debating on which coffee was better, and on if magic was real or not. It made the start to Rose's day quite interesting. She was just glad that they didn't argue. Debates were much more fun.

"Hey, Rose!" Calliope, the cashier, said with a smile. "What can I get for you? The usual cappuccino ?"

"Actually, I think I'll switch it up. How about a vanilla latte?" Rose said, smiling back.

"You got it! That'll be $6.50." Calliope said. Rose pulled out a $10 bill and handed it to her. As Calliope was gathering the change, she glanced at the young man making the coffee. "Hey, who's that? Is he new here?" she asked.

"Oh, him?" Calliope asked, pointing to him after taking the $10 bill. "That's my brother, Caliborn." She said, rolling her eyes. She gave Rose the adequate change back.

"Twins?" Rose said. She heard the door to the store open and turned her head slightly, but then looked back at Calliope.

"Yep, unfortunately.. Anyway, your latte will be ready soon."

"Thanks, Callie."

"No problem!"

Rose walked to a table and put her bag down before she sat. As she was taking out her notebook to try and work on the plot line for her new book, she (unintentionally) listened in on the conversation going on at the counter, along with the swing music they had playing in the shop.

"Hi, Miss! What can I get for you?" Calliope said to the woman standing at the counter.

"Hm... I think I'd like to try a cappuccino." The lady said.

"That'll be $6, please! Also, may I ask what your name is? I don't want to be unfriendly!" Callie said with a smile.

The lady probably smiled back, but Rose couldn't tell. From behind, she looked very tall and slender. Her hair was a dark brunette, almost black, and was cut fairly short, but still long enough to cover her ears. She wore what seemed like a really expensive dress. It was black with green seams and white sewn-on patterns. Rose raised an eyebrow as she watched her pull the money out of her purse. Her nails were painted black. "My name is Kanaya, dear. Thank you for asking." That's when Rose paused. How common is the name 'Kanaya,' even? She squirmed in her seat, being overcome with curiosity. Was it the same Kanaya she knows? If so, did she remember her? Why was she in this city, too? Rose had to know.

She handed Callie a $10 bill, and Callie gathered the correct change, handing it back to her. "There you are, ma'am! Your cappuccino will be ready soon."

"Thank you so much." The lady said with a smile. She made her way to a table. Rose watched her as she walked. She glanced at Rose, and Rose watched her as she walked. This made her visibly uncomfortable, to which Rose's face went red. Her face looked like a more mature version of how she remembered Kanaya, with the same eye shape, lip shape, and the same, cute little mole above her lips. Rose was very uncomfortable, seeing as she hadn't talked to Kanaya in years. What are the odds of meeting up with your ex– ...er, technical ex?– at a coffee shop?

It was about 15 minutes before the two women got their coffee. Calliope had frequently come out of the back room to tell Caliborn to get to work. Eventually, she gave up and had to make the drinks herself. She called both of the ladies up to get their drinks at the same time. Rose took this as the perfect opportunity.

As the two were waiting, she looked at Kanaya. "So, um... You said your name is Kanaya, correct?" she asked. Kanaya looked at her with a puzzled look, and then nodded. "That's a nice name, I like it. What did you get to drink?"

"A cappuccino... What about you?" she replied.

"I got a vanilla latte. I actually usually get a cappuccino. They make really good ones here. Well, Callie does, at least," Rose smiled.

"Oh, thank you!" Callie said as she put both of their drinks down. "Cappuccino," she said as she pushed the cup to Kanaya. "And vanilla latte!" she pushed the cup to Rose. "Enjoy, ladies!" she smiled.

"Thank you, Callie," Rose said with a smile. "So, Kanaya, do you mind if I sit with you?"

"Uh... I suppose not. Some small talk may be nice." Kanaya responded.

The two made their way to the table where Rose was originally sitting, Kanaya sitting across from her. "So, do you know the barista?" Kanaya asked.

"Callie? Yeah. I come in here every morning. Her brother is new, and apparently slacks off a lot." Rose giggled. "I've never seen you here before, though. New in town?"

"Well, I'm here on business, actually. I figured I'd check out this cute little coffee shop." she smiled. Rose nearly melted when she saw her smile. It was definitely the same smile that Kanaya had always had.

The two women talked for around an hour. Finally, Rose figured it was time to spill the beans. She knew that she was Kanaya – her Kanaya – but Kanaya didn't recognize her quite yet.

"So, you mentioned you were on a business trip. May I ask what kind of business?" Rose asked.

"Oh! I'm a fashion designer. I have my own clothing line, and I'm here to have a chat with somebody who wants me to work on a design project with them." Kanaya replied.

"I see! I think I've heard of your brand before... Kanaya Maryam, was it?" Rose raised an eyebrow, taking the last sip of her latte. Kanaya's eyes lit up and she smiled.

"Yeah! You've actually heard of my line? That's exciting!" Rose felt bad after saying she did know the clothing line. In reality, she didn't, but she knew Kanaya and wanted to make it seem like she did.

"Indeed I have. Your clothing is very beautiful," Rose smiled. She was actually very surprised that Kanaya hadn't recognized her by now. Well, she wasn't TOO surprised, seeing as she had brown, curly hair, wore glasses, and had a kinda different clothing style. She probably wouldn't recognize herself either.

"Well, thank you very much." Kanaya smiled. She lifted up her cup and took a final sip of her drink. "So, what about you? What do you do?"

Rose paused. She buckled up, her chest growing stiff. She kind of had a panic moment, and made up some bullshit to give her time to collect her thoughts.

"I, er... I'm actually an author." Okay, that part was true. "Do you know Rose Lalonde?" Kanaya raised an eyebrow and looked at Rose straight in the eyes, hesitantly nodding. "She's an associate of mine." Well, kinda true.

"Really now?" Kanaya asked. Rose nodded. "Does she ever... Well, mention me? We used to know each other."

"Oh, yeah, all the time actually. You guys dated, right? Then lost connection?"

"Mhm. I lost my phone and that was the only place I had her number. I tried to log onto Sburb – You know, the video game? – to see if she'd be logged on, but I guess not. I never found a way to contact her. It's one of my biggest regrets..."

"...Well, she doesn't hold any malice towards you. In fact, I'm pretty sure she'd love to catch up, since you're in town. She lives here, you know."

"Wait, she does?" Rose nodded. "How can I contact her? Sorry if I come off as rude, I –" Rose stopped her from speaking anymore. She stood up, then signaled Kanaya to stand up as well. Kanaya obliged.

Rose smiled and reached into her pocket, pulling out her wallet. She slowly opened her wallet, glancing at Kanaya. Her smile widened even more as she took out her I.D. along with another slip of paper. She showed her the I.D., the name saying "Rose Lalonde." The second slip of paper was a photo – A selfie of a girl with a short, blonde, and straight haircut wearing a black shirt with a skull on it, black lipstick, and lavender eyeshadow. Kanaya recognized the photo right away – The girl was Rose, and the other girl was herself when she was n High school. Kanaya took the photo, then slowly looked at Rose. Rose smiled. "Hey, Kan. Good to see you," she said, her voice cracking a bit.

"Oh my god... Rose, is it really you?" Kanaya asked, looking at the I.D., and then back at Rose. Rose nodded, taking off her glasses and wiping her eyes off. With the glasses off, Kanaya immediately recognized her. Kanaya was taken aback as Rose basically tackled her, hugging her the tightest she could. When it hit Kanaya, she hugged her just as tight. Her emotions started to overflow, and she started to cry. "Why didn't you tell me right away?!"

"Because, I wanted to make sure it was you." Rose smiled.

"Don't do that again!" Kanaya said, sighing. She wiped her eyes off, then pulled away to look at Rose. "You look so different." Rose laughed, and nodded.

...

"Okay, Kan. I have an idea" Rose said as she held the door open for Kanaya. When she walked outside, she closed the door behind her, waving a final goodbye to Callie.

"And what is that?" Kanaya asked, smiling when she looked at Rose. She put her hand on Rose's cheek.

"How about I show you around the city– Y'know, since you haven't been here before. I mean, you may be staying here for quite a while..." Rose grinned.

"Hm... I suppose I can make room for that, Ms. Lalonde," Kanaya smiled.

"Good. I was going to drag you along with me, anyway, Ms. Maryam." Rose said as she kissed Kanaya on the cheek. "Shall we go?"

"We shall."

A/N: Okay guys! That does it for the main story.
