Chapter Thirteen

Akihiko's POV

When I woke up, there was dried blood on my forehead, and a pounding headache making me more aware. At first I was confused as to where I was, but hten the memories came flooding back.

I bolted upright, immediately regretting it when my head started spinning. After I recovered, I fished my phone out of my pocket and turned on the GPS app to find Misaki. Fortunately, Misaki left his phone on, and a red dot was flashing at the location he was. The dot was flashing at the area that had old, abandoned warehouses.

I quickly memorized the address, then dialed Aikawa's number. When she picked up she started yelling at through the phone again, like she had the first time I called her. "Calm down, Aikawa," I said, annoyed.

I explained the situation to her once she calmed down, and she gasped, "Oh my god! Where is Misaki?! Is he alright?! What's-"

I cut her off, growling, "Listen to me." Aikawa finally shut up and I told her to go to Takahiro's and tell him what was going on. Once she agreed, I hung up, not bothering to say goodbye.

Noticing how close I was to my apartment building, I ran towards it, heading for the car park. I finally made it there after a couple of minutes of running, and there was an ominous feeling in the pit of my stomach.

I climbed in my car and gunned the engine, speeding towards the warehouse Misaki was, going as fast as I possibly could without being pulled over. When I finally made it to the warehouse district (or whatever it's called), I hit the gas and screeched down the different roads until I found Number 51.

I spotted a door leading in and ran to it, pulling it open. I looked inside and saw Misaki . . . in a pool of blood. I forced my frozen body to move and rush over to his side, falling to my knees next to him. The source of all the blood was his arms, still dripping blood. I picked Misaki up in my arms and made it back to my car in five seconds flat.

I slid into the driver's seat and carefully set Misaki into the passenger's seat in one fluid motion, hitting the gas. I sped down streets, heading towards the hospital, and catching the police's attention. Even when hte lights and sirens went on, I didn't pull over. When I was getting close to the hospital, I saw movement in the corner of my eye.

I later learned that it was a police car built for speed and agility. Through my panicked mind, I barely noticed when the hospital came into my line of sight. Finally screeching to a halt in the parking lot, I swept Misaki out of the passenger's seat and got out of the car, barely glancing at the at the police.

I ran through the emergency room doors, and the nurses looked up at me with alarm. They assessed the situation quickly, calling for a doctor and a gurney. Misaki was taken from my arms and onto the gurney.

They quickly started to wheel it away and I followed it all the way to the surgery room doors. A nurse had to hold me back and drag me into a waiting room, disappearing for a moment then reappearing with a first aid kit. She took care of my head wound, then told me to wait for news.

I paced the room, calling Takahiro and telling him waht happened. 'Dammit! What am I gonna do if he doesn't make it?' I thought, finally sitting down. This line of thought made me think about Ritsu, and a sudden wave of guilt hit me like a tidal wave.

I buried my face in my hands in an attempt to stop the tears from coming, but failed horribly. Sitting there, I remembered the reason I left in the first place.

I had met Ritsu in the editing department, and he instantly reminded me of Misaki. He had light brown hair and beautiful green eyes only a few shades off from Misaki's. His personality was similar too.

He got flustered easily, blushed when he was embarassed, and yelled a lot when he got angry. Ritsu was a bit jaded and less naive than Misaki, but instantly reminded me of him. The day I met him, I invited him out to get coffee, as if there was something pulling me towards him.

We met together a lot after that, and Misaki didn't even notice. After a couple of months Ritsu confessed that he loved me. It was then that I realized I felt something for him too. Another month later, after accepting Ritsu's confession, we moved away to England. I felt like such a coward, running away from Misaki instead of facing him.

Two years later, I found out from Takahiro that Miskai was in jail for murder. Soon after I found out, Ritsu and I moved back to Japan, moving into my now empty apartment. We lived ther for five years. Another wave of guilt filled me, as if punishing me for forgetting about Ritsu.

I sighed, picking my head up and drying my eyes. Right as I did that, Takahiro, Minami, and Aikawa burst into the waiting room. "I haven't heard anything," I sighed before anyone could ask me any questions.

Without a word, they walked in completely and sat down. After a couple of minutes, Takahiro asked, "Can you explain again what happened?" I nodded and explained again.

"Since when have you had Misaki's cell number?" Aikawa asked. I shrugged, not in the mood for conversation, especially about Misaki. We sat in tense silence for five hours when the Doctor finally came out of the surgery room. I wasn't sure whether the look on his face was a good thing or a bad thing.

"Are you here for Misaki Takahashi-kun?" he asked, but I was pretty sure he already knew the answer.

I nodded and he began speaking, "Takahashi-kun had deep lacerations in his arms," he looked disturbed when he said this, "and some damage was caused to his veins and arteries, along with major blood loss. If he had gotten here any later he probably wouldn't have made it. Even though he made it through the surgery, the next few hours will decide whether he'll make it or not."

Even after hearing the last sentence, I was still immensely relieved that Misaki was alive. "Can we see him?" Takahiro and I asked at the same time. The Doctor nodded and lead us to the room Misaki was in.

I walked in first this time, and there were fewer machines hooked up to Misaki's body. There was in IV drip and a blood bag hooked into his bandaged arms, and a heart monitor as well. I didn't pay any attention to any of that though.

Misaki's unnaturally pale face was what held my attention. I slowly walked over to his side and touched his hand, releasing a breath that I hadn't known I'd been holding when I felt the warmth beneath my fingers. My eyes moved to the other side of the bed when I saw movement. It was Takahiro, his face pale with fear.

I sat down in the chair behind me, releasing a small sigh of worry. I couldn't hel but think about the worse case scenario, if Misaki died. I didn't know what I would do if that happened. I slipped my hand into his limp one and sighed in worry again.

"Usagi," I heard Takahiro say. "So you and Misaki were lovers?"

I nodded, unable to speak. "Why did you never tell me? How long were you together?"

The words seemed to tumble out of his mouth without permission. "We were planning on telling you, but then I moved away-"

"-and betrayed Misaki by falling in love with another man," Aikawa added in, voice bitter and angry. I decided not to answer the second question, afraid of Takahiro's reaction.

"How long were you together?" Takahiro asked again, voice trembling.

"Two years," I answered after a slight hesitation.

Takahiro stayed silent, then asked a question I didn't expect from him, "Did you love him?"

"Yes," I answered immediately, no pause or reluctance to be seen.

"Do you still love him?" Aikawa asked me this time.

"Yes," I said in a whisper.

"What about Ritsu?" she asked. I only nodded in response and we lapsed into an uncomfortable silence. Eventually I fell into a light sleep, still holding onto Misaki's hand.
