Hey, people! Back with another chapter of Infamous, been awhile since I've posted something on here. So:
Shattered Memories is getting remade into a story than a game, but the original is staying up for now.
A New Soul Rises is coming, just need some more time to complete.
As for the others, not sure yet.
Anyways, let's get started.
Chapter 17 : The Last District
Cole and the others crossed the last of the bridge when John called, "Now that Alden's out of the way, it's time to move against Kessler. Strategically, though, he's got you pinned in the Historic District. Head over to the 19th Street Drawbridge and open it. That way you have an out in case things go haywire. Twenty seconds."
"Where are you going to be?" Cole asked.
"I'll be there when you need me. Five seconds." John answered.
"Heard that one before." Cole said to himself.
"You guys head over there. I'm gonna go check on Sora and the others." Raze said as he conjured up wind to fly back over the bridge.
Cole nodded as he, Izura and Unknown went over to the drawbridge which wasn't far, Cole charging up the panel to the bridge as soon as they got there. Once the drawbridge was down, Cole got a call from Kessler.
"Our time together is drawing to a close, Cole. And I fear that you're still not ready to face what is coming. So I've decided to accelerate things. Evolve or die, as they say."
A hi-tech soldier then appeared as he says, "Shall we begin?"
The soldier then suddenly grew to about three times the size of its former self, "Well, I've seen stranger things than this." Izura commented.
However, it didn't take long to take him down, due to their combined efforts. After that, Kessler continued to speak. "I know what Trish means to you, Cole. How much you love her. But we all have our part to play, even her. And that's why she's sitting here next to me. I've planted a series of bombs across the city, and each is on a timer. Fail to disarm any of them before they detonate, and she dies."
"Cole!" Trish called out through the phone.
"You bastard." Cole said.
"I've engaged the timer on the first bomb. You don't have much time." Kessler warned.
Cole, Izura and Unknown sprinted to the bomb's location. It wasn't far, but after Cole drained the bomb to defuse it, a little ambush group was waiting for them. After taking care of them after a few minutes, Kessler speaks, "Two more people alive, because of you, Cole. Someone's brother, sister. The next bomb is armed." The three started heading over to the next bomb location as he continued, "I don't expect you to understand any of this, Cole. Not yet, anyway. But someday you'll thank me. Of that I am certain."
The three took down any soldiers in their way as they then made it to the bomb. After another draining to defuse it, Kessler talked once more.
"That's five people now. Five people that will see another sunrise. But I wonder, did you save them because it was the right thing to do, or because you're trying to protect Trish? I've started the timer on the next bomb."
As they do the rinse and repeat of bomb defusing and ass kicking, Kessler kept speaking to keep things from being boring. "It's amazing the things you forget. The smell of someone, the way their eyes light up when they're happy. Those are the things to cherish, Cole."
Cole defused another bomb as Unknown and Izura took out the last of the soldiers in their area, "Man, he knows how to be repetitive." Unknown commented.
"Tick, tock, tick, tock. The final bomb is counting down." Kessler warned. However, there were three bombs that showed up on the GPS, two were on the other side of town.
"That liar." Izura said.
"I'll take the closest one, you two head to the ones on the other side of the district." Cole ordered, which Izura and Unknown agreed and took off.
Cole arrived at his bomb choice, only to see something different as Kessler spoke. "And it comes down to this - your final test. From one roof hangs Trish, the love of your life. From the other, six doctors. Think of all of the good they'll be able to do, the thousands of lives they'll save. Which is more important, Cole? The life of one, or the lives of many?"
Cole thinks of his choices as Kessler added, "Bombs are attached to each platform. You have time to save one, but not both. Choose."
Cole gave it deep thought. He wants to save Trish, but he knew that deep down, the lives of many outweigh just one. It was a hard choice, but he had decided as he then started to climb the building that the doctors were hanging from.
"I wish there was some other way, that Trish didn't have to die. She's such a special woman. But in times of war, crisis, one must learn to ignore their feelings and do what benefits the whole, not the individual. No matter how painful." Kessler said as Cole reached the roof.
The bomb on the other building went off as Trish began falling and yelled out, "Cole!"
"Trish!" Cole yelled as he then ignored what he choose and jumped off the building after her.
Cole's POV
Time slowed down as Trish fell. All my powers, and I couldn't do a thing. For a second, she sprung to life... just long enough to say that she was proud of me for what I'd become. Proud that I was helping people with my powers. And that she loved me for it. Sora and the others arrived soon after, only to see what was the outcome. I buried her in the park, alongside others who'd died since the blast. Kessler's going to pay for this. I'm gonna find that sick bastard. And I'm gonna kill him.
Sora's POV
We all heard what happened to Trish and Cole, what Kessler said, thanks to my phone. But, it didn't change what we saw out of it. We were all in sorrow about Trish's death, but Cole had obviously took it really hard. I knew he was pointing his anger at Kessler, and I know that Kessler will pay.
Normal POV
Cole stood there as John called, "I saw what Kessler put you through. Hell of a thing. Every minute that mad dog walks the planet, all of our lives are at risk. Seventy-five seconds."
"Where the hell were you? If you'd only helped out, Trish might still be alive." Cole said.
"Nothing I could do. She was dead the second Kessler got his claws on her. Fifty-one seconds." John replied.
"Spare me that crap. You just didn't want to put your neck on the line." Cole said.
"Expose myself to save one person? I don't think so. But I can help you get some payback. The power grid on the southern half of this island never got updated, so it still uses the old external substations. Turn on all three, and you restore power to the rest of the island. Fifteen seconds." John replied.
"And give myself a new power in the process." Cole added as he said to himself.
"Exactly." John agreed.
After Cole explains to Sora and the others what the plan is, he and Sora head down to the sewers one last time.
(Cole and Sora obtained: Lightning Storm)
After obtaining their new power and exiting the sewers, a turret truck shows up, only to be target practice for their new power. The two summoned a giant lightning bolt from the sky upon the enemy truck, making it explode.
"Ho, ho, yeah! Fry, you bastards!" Cole commented.
After frying two more trucks with their lightning bolts, Moya called. "Cole, we need to talk. I know what John's been telling you."
"I got nothing to say to you, Moya. You've lied to me from the very beginning." Cole replied.
"I didn't have any other choice. I had to make myself appear sympathetic, get you to help me. The Ray Sphere can't fall into the wrong hands."
"So what was your real plan? I find John and the Sphere, then you take them and leave me to the wolves?"
"I would've done everything I could to get you out of there."
"Goodbye, Moya." Cole said before hanging up on her.
The group then got over to the first substation and it was a waiting game for it to reboot itself as they held off the nearby enemies. As they headed over to the second substation, John started talking.
"So how much did Moya know about me? Fifty-two seconds."
"Hell if I know. Is it really that important?" Cole answered.
"She works for a different agency and knew I was undercover. That means that the NSA has been compromised, that someone is outing agents. Our entire national security apparatus could be exposed. Twenty-nine seconds."
"I think we've got more important things to worry about right now. We can deal with other stuff once we've taken care of Kessler."
After rebooting the second substation and dealing with more enemies, guess who called?
"I saw what you did for Trish. Believe it or not, I know how hard it is to bury someone you love. Especially someone as special as Trish." It's Kessler.
"I'm going to kill you, Kessler. I'm going to tear you apart, piece by piece." Cole said to him, bluntly and honestly.
"Yes, you probably will. In fact, I hope you do. I've been at this for a very long time now., and I'm tired. Worn out. Won't be much longer now." Kessler strangely replied back.
After the last substation was rebooted, John called in. "Just found out what Kessler wanted with Sasha - he's milking her like a damn cow, turning her mind control tar into a gas-based toxin. Forty-one seconds."
"Those two psychos were made for each other." Cole commented.
"Yeah, they're freaks. Believe me, I know. But if Kessler succeeds in spraying the city with his toxin, he could take control of every person still here. And send them after you guys. Eighteen seconds." John said.
"Story of my life." Cole said to himself.
"I think he's going to try and deliver it via balloons. Head over to the Blue Canyon building." John said.
A few minutes later, John calls in with some news. "A couple of engineers just strung a power line from the Historic District back over to the Neon. Should make it easier for you guys to move around."
"Good to know." Sora said.
After traveling for awhile, the group finds the building as John called. "Should be a balloon near your location. Seventy-four seconds."
"Yeah, we see it." Cole replied.
"You're gonna have to take down the shield in order to hop onto it to detach it. But, you're going to have to take care of the plane nearby to avoid any interference during the attempt." John said before hanging up.
"Got it." Cole said as he hung up.
"Raze, boost me up to the balloon." Cole said to him, which he agreed and conjured up enough wind for flight.
As they did that, Sora spotted the plane nearby and with a well timed cinder missile, got it out of the air. Once the two got close, Cole then unleashed a short but effective lightning storm on the shield, shutting it down and got onto the platform. He then quickly detached the three latches and the balloon was free to drift away.
Once they did the first one, Cole got a surprise call from Zeke. "Listen man, I didn't know what was gonna happen with Trish. I swear it." Cole remained silent as a response.
"You there? C'mon Cole, say something." Cole responded with silence again.
"Guess I'm the last person you want to talk to right now. Anyway, I'm really sorry. Nothing happened like I thought was going to. Story of my life, I guess." Zeke said before he hung up.
By the time they were finished with the second balloon, Cole heard a familiar voice in his head. "This could be so much easier for you, Cole. If you only helped me, I could've exerted control over those people, kept them from attacking you. But it's not too late, I can still be yours if you kill Kessler."
Cole just ignored it as he then got a call from Moya a few minutes later as they headed into the Neon, "Listen to me, Cole. I know you're angry, but this is bigger than you. Bigger than all of us. The fate of our country, maybe even our world, depends on what happens with the Ray Sphere."
"Spare me, Moya." Cole responded.
"Imagine if it fell into the hands of a terrorist organization, what they'd do with it? The Ray Sphere isn't a weapon of mass destruction, it's a weapon of ultimate destruction. You've got to find it and give it to me. I can lock it up, make sure no one gets their hands on it." Moya said, trying to convince him.
"Deal's off, Moya. Find another lapdog." Cole declined before hanging up.
Once they've finally finished dealing with the balloons in the Neon, John called. "You know, I think it's time we went on the offensive. I've managed to rig up an old police chopper with some surveillance gear, should help us pinpoint the Ray Sphere's location. Forty-three seconds."
"You sure that's going to work?" Cole questioned.
"Look, I spent months following Kessler around, copying his notes. With the rig I've got on the chopper, and you riding shotgun, yeah, we'll find it. Meet me by the old Ashford building in the Historic District. Sixteen seconds." John answered.
"We're on our way." Sora said on his phone before he hung up.
Fast forward to the next mission, once they arrived, a chopper with an electrified platform under it flew to them. "Get on."
Cole and Sora hopped on as Raze helped the others with wind again to keep up with the chopper.
"Threw a generator in the back of the chopper, should keep that platform powered up." John said as they flew to their first objective.
"Quite the setup you've got here." Sora commented.
"Kessler's positioned a mobile jammer on each island, and the damn things are cloaked. They mask the frequency emitted by the Ray Sphere, which is why no one can find it. The dishes along the bottom of the platform are set to find the jammers. As I find each one, I'll feed you its location - than you guys can go down and destroy it. And don't get off the platform unless I tell you to. We need to time this right - if we make a single mistake, Kessler will move the jammers and we're back to square one." John explained.
"Understood." Cole said.
As they found the first jammer, Cole and Sora jumped off the platform and the others gave aerial support as they went to destroy it. Once they did, the two returned to the chopper and went for the second one.
"Probably don't know this, I was chasing you the day of the blast. Tried to stop you from opening the package. If I'd been a minute faster, we wouldn't even be here." John mentioned.
"So what happened?" Cole asked.
"Lost me when you ran a red light. Amazing, isn't it? One red light, and look what happens." John answered.
After a few minutes, they were heading over to the next district when John asked a question. "So what's your plan for getting out of the city?"
"Hell if I know." Cole answered.
"Never came to my mind." Sora answered.
"Well, you'd better come up with something. If you think they're going to let someone as powerful as you, Sora, or the others just run around, you'd better think again."
"We appreciate the concern, but we're not really worried about it." Cole said.
"You should be worried. Very worried. You think they're not going to try and recreate the Ray Sphere? I gave them copies of every schematic I could get my hands on. But even if that fails, they still have you guys. Their own personal WMDs. My guess is that they'll capture you and lock you up, only letting you out when they need somebody wiped off the map." John said.
"Well, ain't that nice?" Sora sarcastically said before they went to destroy the second jammer.
Once they done that, they went off to the last one in the last district, but as they did, Zeke called again. "Cole, c'mon man. I know you're there. Please pick up."
"I've got nothing to say to you, Zeke. As far as I'm concerned, you killed Trish. If you hadn't taken off with Kessler, she'd still be alive and we'd be out of this damn city." Cole said.
"What do you want me to say? That I'm sorry?" Zeke asked.
"I don't want you to say anything - I want you to disappear. Because if I find you, things are going to get ugly." Cole answered coldly before hanging up.
The chopper then arrived at the garage as the two hopped on down. After a little bit of searching, they found the last jammer and destroyed it.
"I need to get some things ready before we go after the Ray Sphere, so try and get some sleep. When we make our move, Kessler's going to hit us with everything we got." John said.
"Don't you worry, we'll be ready." Cole reassured.
Done! Hope you guys liked this, it barely have action but, it's pretty much the same thing when you play the game. Anyways, we are finishing this next chapter so, look forward to it and I'll see you in the next chapter, buh bye!
