A/N: Hi all! My apologies for the incredibly delayed update! Honestly, after my iPod was stolen, I totally gave up since I had no idea where I wanted this story to go. I'm still not sure what I want to do with it, but I figured, why not let it grow on its own in the meanwhile?
The ride back to the shrine was quiet, with Kagome sleeping on the passenger side and Sesshoumaru lost in his thoughts.
'She's seen Mikibou, she obviously likes children, but what do I do now? Do I risk it all and just tell her?'
Warring with himself, he almost drove past the entrance to the Shrine, stopping at the intersection right before. Looking over at his once lost mate, he smiled and brushed her hair out of her face. He then exited the car and carried her out, wanting to let her sleep.
Upon reaching the entrance of the Shrine, he rung the doorbell once and quickly heard footsteps approach. The door opened and Mia smiled down at her daughter, "I do apologize Mr. Taishou. My daughter never had it in her to stay up late. Thank you for letting her sleep."
Sesshoumaru nodded once, "No apologies are needed, Mrs. Higurashi. Your daughter made quite the impression upon my family and friends today and we hope to see her more often. I'm sure she mentioned to you, but a family friend of mine might be able to assist in bringing her memories back."
A dark look crossed Mia's face and she looked him dead in the eye, "Thank you for your hospitality, Mr. Taishou, but perhaps it's best she doesn't remember the last six years. From what I know, they were incredibly difficult for her and I believe that she will be happier this way. I would refrain from contacting my daughter again."
With that, Mia cradled her daughter with surprising strength and promptly shut the door on Sesshoumaru's face.
Sesshoumaru stood at the door, completely shocked before feeling absolute rage rise up from inside. He hurriedly entered his car and sped home, positive that his friends had not yet left the premises.
Once at home, he stormed into his living room, startling everyone there with his suffocating aura.
"What the fuck is wrong with you? I thought we hit it off well with Kagome!" Inuyasha yelled.
Sesshoumaru shook his head, "Her mother thinks it's best to leave her memories untouched. It seems her experience in our era was much more taxing then she let on. Her mother has asked me to refrain from contact in the future."
Koga gaped, "No way. I know Kagome and I know that right now, there is nothing bothering her more than not knowing what happened over the last six years. She would rather know and be hurt, than live and feel like something was missing!"
The others nodded in agreement, and Kanna spoke up, "Perhaps we can appease both sides of the argument."
Ayame looked at her curiously, "What are you thinking about?"
"Kagome's mother only asked that Sesshoumaru keep his distance, but if we were to continue to befriend her, we could still be a part of her life and be there for her when she starts to remember as well."
Scowling, Sesshoumaru agreed, "Only if you take Mikibou to her occasionally. I think if anyone were to be able to job her memory, it would have to be our daughter."
Everyone agreed and from there, discussed who would approach Kagome first, and how they would integrate her back into their lives.
The next morning, Kagome woke up and noticed that she had been changed and tucked into bed. Rushing through her morning routine, she scrambled downstairs and ran right into Naraku as they both turned the corner.
"I am so so so so sorry, Mr. Tanaka! I wasn't watching where I was going at all!" Kagome shot right up and took a few steps back.
Smiling graciously, Naraku shook his head, "It is quite alright, Kagome. And please, call me Naraku."
Grinning, Kagome nodded and then ran around him, desperate to find her mother.
"Mama! Mama! Where are you?" Kagome called as she headed towards the kitchen.
A voice came from within the kitchen doors, "I'm right here, honey!"
Kagome burst into the room, "Mama, did you tuck me in last night?!"
Mia laughed, "Yes. Your friend was kind enough to bring you home and didn't want to disturb you. How was dinner, by the way?"
Wistfully, Kagome smiled, "It was wonderful. Sesshoumaru was the perfect gentleman and his friends were absolutely amazing. They were all so kind and all fit together so seamlessly, as if they've all known each other their entire lives. I was a bit envious, if we're being honest. And speaking of his friends, I met a doctor, Ayame, who told me that she might have a possible way for me to get my memories back! Isn't that great, Mama?"
Giving her daughter a strained smile, Mia responded carefully, "You know, Kagome. Maybe it's better how things are now. I don't know what went on these last 6 years, but whenever you spoke to me, you always seemed as if each conversation was going to be your last. Whatever it was, maybe you forgot for a reason. What if you can't handle the memories?"
Kagome frowned, "I thought you wanted me to remember, Mama?"
Mia sighed, "I do, but I also see how much happier you seem right at this moment and I don't want to lose you again."
Giving her mother a hug, Kagome spoke up, "Mama, I know this is what I want. I can't live not knowing what happened and if it ends up being the worst thing I'll ever experience, at least I'll know that the worst has already passed.
Nodding, Mia held her daughter at arms length and looked her straight in the eye, "As long as this is what you know you want.
Scowling, Naraku stormed back up to his room, "KANNA. KANNA COME HERE!"
Stepping out of the body length mirror, Kanna looked blankly at her master, "Yes, Naraku?"
"She has been found by them, and soon she will remember everything. This cannot happen, do you understand?" Naraku paced around the room, "For now, I will do what I can to gain her trust. If she regains her memories, I might be able to fool her into believing that I have changed after all these years. And I will finally have what I deserve.
A/N: Thank you all for your patience! As I was writing this, I definitely found a bit of direction for this story so let's just see how this plays out! I'll try to keep updates at LEAST weekly, if not more!
