Chapter 13 – Understanding.
It's been a few days since Allen, Kanda an Lavi returned to the order. The days had gone by quietly. Lavi spent most of his days in the library with bookman while Lenalee went from going on missions to helping the science division. Kanda spent his days as usual; eating, training, meditating and sleeping. As for Allen.. well everyone noticed he was a bit off. He still went through his same ritual everyday but sometimes he'd just disappear for a few hours. He wouldn't be in his room, and couldn't be found in the training room or cafeteria either. And then some hours later he'd suddenly appear in cafeteria again. Everyone had gotten a bit worried, but did not know how to help.
It was on a Friday night when Kanda decided that the book he had held onto for weeks now just wasn't going to be read through anymore. He had tried several times now to read it but his mind always drifted away. So he decided to search a new book. One that would be able to keep his interest.
Walking straight past the romance and mystery novels, Kanda headed straight to the back of the library. He was glad he didn't come across anyone, he wanted to be alone. In the far back of the library, in two rows of bookcases were the books located that held his interest, ancient battles.
When he finally arrived though, the only thing he could think was, shit.
Guess who was sitting on the floor against one of the bookcases with piles of books around him and one in his hand? Yep, it was his darling moyashi..
"ah Kanda, what are you doing here?" Allen asked as he noticed his presence and looked up. He was a bit shocked, but did not show it.
"che, getting a book what else?" Kanda said. After he said that Allen looked back at his book, just the tiniest bit of disappointment showed on his face. Kanda had been feeling guilty as hell this past week and this certainly didn't make him feel any better. So he did something very un-Kanda like and went to sit next to Allen. "so, what are you reading?" Allen was shocked and looked at Kanda, he couldn't really answer because of it.
"well, moyashi?" that seem to awoke him.
"it's Allen, bakanda. And it's the Iliad I'm reading. " Allen responded.
"that's a difficult book, " Kanda said, trying to start a normal conversation. "how far along are you?" he asked.
"are you indicating its too difficult for me and you want to make fun of me that I haven't been able to finish it as of yet?" Allen asked, insulted.
"no I'm asking you how much of it you've read so far so that I know what I can talk about." He once again managed to shock Allen.
"you've read the Iliad?" Allen asked dumbfounded.
Kanda felt a bit good inside for some reason and said "yes I have. Why are you so surprised?"
"I don't know.." Allen answered. "I just didn't think you were the type is all.."
A few moments passed by silently, neither of them knowing what to say next. Then Allen broke the silence, "so you're into Greek myths?" he asked shyly.
"not particularly, I just like to read about ancient battles and stuff." Allen felt a bit happy inside, he learned something new about Kanda.
"there is one Greek myth I do like though, the story of Psyche. She was a very beautiful woman and had caught the attention of the god Eros. However one day she mistreated his trust and he left her. but he saw that she showed regret and he couldn't stay away from her even if his mother tried so hard to keep her from him. He wanted her back and asked for the help of the most powerful god, Zeus. Who said that even though they were never meant to be together they would be forever."
Kanda had looked Allen deep in the eye with that last sentence. Allen didn't know what to say, but his eyes did it for him. He felt his eyes water and couldn't keep a tear from falling. Kanda wiped it away with the back of his fingers. They were silent, not only because they didn't know what to say but also because they wanted to enjoy this moment. Kanda however broke the silence after a few moments.
"Moyashi, I'm sorry about that time. I took advantage of you and have regretted it deeply since. Even though I promised I'd never touch you again.. I hope you can forgive me and maybe one day trust me again?" Kanda said those uncharacteristically yet heartfelt words. Allen was surprised but also very happy.
"you're wrong Kanda. You didn't take advantage of me rather it's the other way around. I've been using your kindness and it made me happy. But I never showed it to you in return. That time in the shower, I made you help me and I made you do ..that" Allen said looking away with a blush.
"however" Allen said while looking back at him with determination showing in his eyes. "What you did afterwards hurt me and made me angry. I thought that after that one time you had enough of me. I understand now why you did it but it hurt me Kanda.." Allen said, eyes watering again. Kanda put his arms around him and let Allen's head rest on his chest.
"I'm sorry"
Allen was happy he looked up at Kanda and the two met each other half way into a kiss.
Yes this is how it's supposed to be.
To say Lenalee and Lavi were shocked, was an understatement. As they had walked into the cafeteria they quickly ordered their food from Jerry. When they turned around to look for a seat, the two were baffled by what they saw. There at one of the tables in the far corner were Kanda and Allen sitting, next to each other, while eating their dinners. More off, Allen was laughing. Not one of his dead trademark laughs but full blown laughter. Lavi and Lenalee exchanged looks before heading to the table.
"you seem to be in a good mood Moyashi-chan" Lavi said as he put down his dinner on the table. "ah, good evening Lavi, Lenalee. I was just telling Kanda a funny story about this one time at the circus" Allen said.
Lavi raised his eyebrows to show his ..confusion to Allen. The moyashi had always turned into a pool of dark aura whenever he talked about his past, yet here he was laughing about it. well, this can only be a good sign, Lavi thought. he gave Kanda a look, and realized the look was returned. He gave Kanda a wink, but all Kanda did was scoff and returned to his dinner. Pff jerk, Lavi mentally smiled.
"so what are you two gonna be up to tonight?" Lenalee asked. Allen and Kanda both formed a little blush and didn't answer. The blush didn't go unnoticed. "hmmmm~, what's this? Both embarrassed? Now I'm really curious ~" Lenalee said in a playful tone.
"ehh no it's not what you think!" Allen said hurriedly. "we were.. just going to the library, Kanda was going to show me this book he read." Allen answered honestly. "che" was Kanda's reply.
"and what about you two?" Allen diverted the question to them.
"Well I was supposed to go to the library, but that's so boring! I guess I'll just have some fun with Lenalee-chan~." Lavi answered.
"I see, well, have fun then" Allen said. He took one final bite of the last plate and motioned for Kanda that he was ready to leave. "have a nice evening" Allen said before he and Kanda left.
A few hours later, Lavi and Lenalee found themselves in the lounge, completely and utterly bored.
"I wonder what they're up to right now.." Lavi said. Lenalee looked at him and said, "come on now Lavi, even if they have gotten a bit further, it wouldn't have gotten that far"
"I envy them you now" Lavi suddenly said, drawing Lenalee's full attention. "those two found each other and will never let go again. I wish I could have someone like that" he looked Lenalee in the eye now, "someone to hold and treasure. Someone to protect and scold" his hand had started to cup Lenalee's cheek as his thumb softly traced her bottom lip. "someone to kiss.." but then he lowered his hand and looked away. "unfortunately I'll never be able to have that. As a future bookman I'm not allowed to have those kinds of relationships" not any kind of relationship really.
Though Lenalee never thought of Lavi that way, it did hurt her to see Lavi like this. And she couldn't help but pity him. This time it was her that cupped his cheek as she looked at him in silent understanding.
Well that's it! hope you enjoyed!
Btw, There's something I've been thinking about. I don't think I can write about Allen and Kanda doing 'the act' because well, at the beginning of this story I made it sound like an AreKan, but right now I'm getting more of a yullen vibe. If I write Allen on top, it going to be a complete 180 and much OOC-ness, but if I write a Yullen then I'll disappoint all the AreKan fans. You catch my drift? I've kinda been writing myself into a corner here.. if anyone has any ideas, please share them with me! It'll help me get a move on with this story!
