I screwed up the chapters sorry.

Chapter 20: What Lizzie's not grateful for

The following day Lizzie set out early after gaining her dad's permission to go and see Jane. But really, Lizzie's real plan was to bring her home.

Her dad agreed to drop her off at the train station because he couldn't take her out to the suburbs himself. For Lizzie, this was like a grand adventure. Even though she was sixteen. She had never ridden the train alone before. This was also her first trip to the suburbs.

Before leaving the house she made sure to print out directions on where to go after getting off the train. It was going to be about a two mile journey

The train ride out wasn't that interesting so she had her earphones in majority of the trip. People would come and go according to their stop and Lizzie watched the transition with interest. One couple in particular amused her the most.

A young couple in their early twenties were sitting across from Lizzie. She purposefully took out one earpiece to listen to their conversation.

"I'm just saying, Alex. They'd make a good couple. Harriet would be just the thing for him."

The man named Alex groaned and shook his head, "Emma, you need to stop playing Cupid before someone gets hurt."

"Oh please, it's completely harmless."

"Raising false hope is harmful."

Lizzie nodded her agreement with that. Those who raise people's hopes and then throw away their feelings are the worse.

The announcer came over the intercom and Lizzie's stop was next.

She waited till the train station was actually in view before standing up and making her way over to the door, but not before stealing a glance at the people she was eavesdropping on.

The woman was really pretty and the guy sitting next to her was handsome. Lizzie wondered at their story and if they shared anything in common. She knew at least that she had something in common with the guy.

Stepping off the train and onto the station platform. Lizzie prepared herself for the long journey ahead.

To Lizzie's astonishment, she actually liked it here. It helped not having to be afraid of some creepy guy coming up behind you and try and offer you something illegal like drugs. There weren't gangs hanging out on street corners, but teenagers and middle schoolers hanging out at ice cream and frozen yogurt places.

Oh how Lizzie wanted to deviate from her mission and explore the downtown area for an hour.

Making her way into the neighborhoods, she started to see less people which didn't bother her. There was a canopy of golden leaves overhead with a blanket of fallen ones crunching underneath. The sun had dried up all the rain from the day before, leaving only little signs behind.

After only taking one wrong turn- which for Lizzie was a record- she arrived at the Bingley house on Netherfield Avenue.

Taking the steps that lead to the front door by two, she tried to think of how she was going to go about extracting her sister.

"Lizzie, what are you doing here?"

Frowning because the voice was coming from behind her, Lizzie turned around to see who it was. Her eyes met Will's and she could only stare at him for a few seconds before remembering he'd asked a question.

"I could ask you the same question, Will." Avoiding his question. But then she realized that for him was a stupid question. "Here to see Charles."

"Yeah. Are you here to see your sister?"

"To get her actually." Lizzie didn't miss the surprise on his face before she turned around and knocked on the door. Yes she was on a mission and nothing was going to stop her.

The door opened and they were met by Charles who looked surprised to see them both or at least together.

But he threw on a smile and welcomed them inside.

"Lizzie, what a pleasant surprise! Did Will bring you here?"

"No I walked here from the train station."

Nothing.

The boys just looked at her.

Charles in amazement. Will looking somewhat upset or disturbed.

Charles finally broke the silence with a laugh.

"You must be a great walker. I'm sorry. If I had known I would've picked you up, or even Caroline who should redeem herself from having missed your sister's call yesterday."

So this was all Caroline's fault. Lizzie knew she didn't like her.

"What do you mean?" asked Will.

Apparently he didn't know what had happened.

"Caroline was supposed to pick Jane up from the train station yesterday. But she had lost her phone and missed her call. So Jane walked here."

How convenient for her.

"I don't mind the walk." Lizzie put on one of her smiles and laughed, "People should walk more anyway."

She wasn't lying either. The walk was peaceful and pleasant. Why ride in a car if you could enjoy the weather?

"Would you like me to take you to your sister. She may still be asleep, but I bet she will increase in health knowing her sister is here."

This boy seemed to know all the right things to say. Lizzie couldn't imagine him saying something mean to anyone. Even to the most indecent human being. Lizzie didn't want to witness her mother ever meeting Charles in a public place.

Pulling herself out of her imaginings she thanked Charles and followed him to her sister.

She needed to get her out of here as well as herself. It felt like she had just infiltrated a top security place and is robbing them of their most precious jewel. Which she kind of was because Jane was a jewel.

Jane was sleeping when they entered the room and Charles excused himself after a few minutes to go back down stairs.

"I'll be in the front room if you need anything."

Lizzie nodded and took the chair next to the bed.

Jane stirred and opened her eyes.

"Lizzie. I had a dream that you came to see me."

"Oh Jane. What did they do to you?"

"Nothing Lizzie. I just got a little sick from walking over here in the rain. I confess I got a little lost so it took me a while to get here."

"Yeah so did I, but seriously. I can't believe that it was just a coincidence that Caroline lost her phone when she was supposed to pick you up. Didn't she already know when you were coming? Couldn't she have just went to the station when the train was supposed to drop you off?"

"She probably forgot."

"Nope. I ain't buying it. She is as slimy and cunning as Charles is geeky and lovable."

Jane laughed at the joke before it turned into a cough.

"Lizzie, it's not a big deal. I'll get better."

"You better. Or else I'll tell all the boys at school who have a crush on you that some girl got you sick because she made you walk in the rain for three miles. I'm sure I will have at least ten boys coming to aid my cause."

"I doubt it would be ten."

"But you agree there are some!"

Jane shook her head, "I've had some guys tell me they like me before, but I doubt that they would actually do anything for me since I turned them down."

"Yeah I remember. You turned them down so gently that two guys didn't understand that it was a rejection."

"I don't look at it as a rejection. Just that I don't look at them in that way, but that I'd love to be good friends with them."

"And that's why you have your own reverse harem."

Everyday Jane was with at least two or three guy friends and Lizzie could only marvel at how popular her sister was with guys without having dated. While Lizzie on the other hand dated once and since then couldn't stand talking to a boy.

"Well getting to my point. I'm here to take you home."

"Home?"

"Yes. Did you think I came here for the entertainment? Besides it's not like you can even hang out with them much seeing as you're stuck in bed."

"Why don't you hang out with them in my place?"

"Sorry, but they're your friends. Not mine."

"They're really nice. You just need to give them a chance."

Lizzie let out a sigh.

"Why don't you rest. I'll go down stairs for a bit. Not to socialize, but to let you have the room to yourself."

Jane smiled appreciatively before closing her eyes.

Lizzie stood and left the safety of the room.

This was definitely not going to be enjoyable.

Descending the stairs she found the front room and Charles. He was sitting on the couch looking at his phone when he noticed Lizzie. Standing up he began to attack her with questions on how Jane was doing.

"She's fine. I left her to rest a bit."

"I'm glad she isn't feeling any worse."

He invited her to sit down and they began to talk. About three minutes passed before they were joined by Will and Caroline.

Lizzie looked at them entering into the room and couldn't help but think they'd be perfect for each other. Two of the most frustrating people joining hands. Yes, Twitter would crash.

Caroline had the idea that Lizzie and her were best buds and that she could ask her personal questions.

At first Lizzie didn't answer, but then she decided to have a little fun and give her false answers like: What sports does she play if any? Lizzie said she was a cheerleader.

How many siblings did her parents have? They were both an only child.

What her grades were so far? F's but who cares, right.

What was she planning on studying in college if she was planning on going? Learning to become a stay at home mom.

After the failed interrogation, Caroline decided her phone was more interesting and didn't talk anymore.

Lizzie was grateful that the girl finally got the hint.

"Hey Lizzie, why don't we play some games?" Charles suggested. Lizzie complied and a game was produced.

They were in the middle of checkers when Will walked over to watch their game.

"How's Jane?"

"Very sick, but she will recover as soon as she returns home." Where she belongs.

"You plan for the two of you to leave tonight?"

Did he disapprove of her decision? Lizzie wanted to laugh. Nothing he said would sway her from trying to leave with Jane tonight.

"Yes, I wouldn't want my sister to inconvenience the Bingleys."

"Of course you aren't. YOu both are welcome to stay, right Carrie?" offered Charles.

Was this Will's plan all along? Expose her plan and make it impossible for them to leave. She had to admit it was pretty clever. Even she didn't expect it.

Knowing Will had won that round. Lizzie decided it best to avoid any other attempts at conversation in case something else should happen.

Turning back to Charles she asked if he wanted to try a game of chess. She was in need of a game that required focus so she wouldn't have to think about anything outside the game.

"I fear I won't be a good opponent since I rarely play the game."

Yeah, playing against a noob wouldn't be as challenging so Lizzie started to look for other games.

"If you don't mind, I'll play against you."

Answering automatically Lizzie accepted his offer and they both sat down to play. Will took Charles's spot at the table. Minutes passed with them both concentrating on the game.

Looking up after playing she saw that he had just looked back down at the board.

Raising an eyebrow she became curious and decided to start a conversation.

"Do you often play chess?"

"I had more when I was little." Lizzie doubted that. He moved his pieces as if he knew what he was doing.

She took his bishop and she watched him frown.

"What about you?"

"I play with my father on occasions." Meaning twice a week, but that was still on occasions, right?

He took Lizzie's rook and put her in check.

Crap. She couldn't afford to get distracted right now. She looked at her pieces to see what her options were.

"How about this, loser has to do something for the winner." suggested Will.

Then she saw it.

Lizzie was careful not to show a smile as she answered, "If you really want to then fine."

Taking her pawn, she swopped it with his queen which had her king in check and put him in check mate. She had five pawns surrounding his King. "I call this the Bennet smackdown." That was a load of crap but he didn't need to know that.

Lizzie laughed heartedly.

Will sighed.

"I believe you owe me a favor now."

He frowned but nodded, "What do you want?"

Lizzie shook her head, "Oh I won't use this favor now. I might need it later on when you least expect it."

"You seem certain you'll see me again." At first Lizzie didn't expect to see him again after the field trip, but for some reason they seemed to be thrown together a lot. So Lizzie wasn't all too worried.

"If I don't then I won't be disheartened, and you can rest easy to know that you never had to do what I have planned for you."

Around ten everyone began to shut down and Will went home.

Lizzie went up to a room that was prepared for her by Mrs Bingley who Lizzie found to be exactly like Charles. When she was in bed and about to turn off the lights she hear the sound of knocking at her door.

Charles poked his head in before entering the room.

"Sorry to bother you."

"No it's fine."

"I had a great idea. Why not invite your family down and we could throw a get well party for Jane!"

"Charles, I don't think get well parties exist."

Charles laughed, "Yeah I guess you're right, but it will be tons of fun. You should invite some friends to come too. I probably have some friends who would love to come and meet Jane. I've told them about her constantly but haven't really shown her to them yet. Anyway the party will be on Sunday if that's ok."

"But isn't that in two days?"

"Oh that's plenty of time with the right help." Was he asking her?

"Uh...did you need help?"

"Huh? Oh no I can't have you help me. You're going to be one of the honored guest." Oh god. Save her.

"You know you don't have to go through all this trouble. I'm sure she'd be just as happy with a card."

"Do you think a party would overwhelm her?" Charles began to look worried.

Lizzie let out a smile sigh. Parties weren't really Jane's scene but, "If you're with her, I'm sure she'll be fine."

"Great." Charles then said goodnight and left the room.

A/N: So goodnight. Yes it's night time currently when I'm submitting this.

I feel so accomplished finishing a new chapter. Especially since I had the time to work on it. Finals are around the corner! First year of college is almost over. Dang where does the time go? I'd love for you guys to read my original pieces but I just don't know how. Plus I want to publish some stuff so I don't want to put it online. Review please. Love you!
