A/N: This chapter was requested by a reviewer who wanted to know the origin of Mikey's necklace in the 2014 movie.
April O'Neil had now known the turtles for about three months now, Splinter was getting stronger every day after the attack in the lair. She helped them clean up and found that they made better friends then actual humans did.
One day after watching the turtles train she noticed the necklace that was laying off to the side, it had beads and shells on it. Picking it up she noticed the pearl whiteness of the shells, and the black beads, she wondered where it came from? Did Mikey make it?
"It was a gift."
Gasping she spun around to come face to face with the orange clad turtle, he was standing there nervously watching her hold his necklace. Reaching one green hand out he motioned for it.
She handed it over, he went and sat down holding it in his hands, he normally hit on her or would make comments but right now he seemed lost in thought, and serious. Letting out a long breath that seemed like he had been holding he told her.
"I was 4 when I got this."
He paused and twisted the necklace around in his hands, he seemed so different as he was lost in the memory. She remained silent, she stole a glance over at the other three turtles who were watching them cautiously. Raph bowed his head and took his other brother's shoulders and told them softly.
"Come on."
Mikey nodded his thanks and looked back over at his crush, he then spoke softly and told her.
"When I was 4, Master Splinter had taken me out to go searching for supplies... normally he would take Leo, but Leo was in charge of keeping an eye on Donnie... he had been sick... well anyway we found this bag in a dumpster. It had shells and beads in it."
Holding up the necklace indicating that is where the necklace came from.
"Dad found me some string to put it all together, I guess the thought I would, or even could put it together my self. I was so happy, but then one day I was only part of the way into making it when it happened... I got sick... it was close to our 5th birthday... I was real sick... I could see it in dad's eyes, he didn't think I would live. I could tell I had a hard time breathing, and I slept all the time. My brothers were scared, they... I saw Raph cry... now THAT is saying something... he believed it too."
Mikey paused in his story, reliving the memory that was all too alive in his mind.
"So, who finished the necklace?"
Mikey swallowed and smiled.
"They all did... Dad worked on it for a couple of days, then Raph took over, Leo then Donnie. One day about three weeks later Leo came into my room and saw me sitting up looking dazed but I was better. It was just two days before our birthday. I asked where my necklace was, no one would tell me. Then on our birthday, dad handed it to me."
Mikey held up one of the small, white shells and she saw an inscription engraved on it.
To our baby brother, with love.
"Donnie managed, I don't know how, but he put that on there. I was always the one in trouble the most, next to Raph. I even thought at one time no one loved me, but when I saw the necklace that they finished for me. Out of concern and love, I could never part with it. When Sacks stripped us of our gear and took my necklace I freaked out and had to be sedated. It was the first thing Leo found when we broke free of the glass, I saw him grab it, he apparently saw it before I did. Or he saw where it was put as we ran to check on Raph. I saw him smile at me before we took off. He knew what this necklace meant to me."
April smiled at the 15 year old and said.
"So, you wear this all the time? Because it was a gift?"
He nodded and put it back around his neck.
"I only take it off when we train, or go to the Hashi. Even then Splinter puts it up on a peg on the wall so it doesn't get lost. It must have fallen off."
She looked at the necklace one more time before telling him.
"It's beautiful, your family did a good job, but where did the ambulant come from?"
He felt the necklace on his chest and then looked over at her again.
"Raph gave it to me, he found it in the sewers one day when he got mad and stormed out. We found a way to add it to the necklace with out breaking it."
After a moment he then said.
"It's pretty cool, it reminds me about how much they care about me. Even when I get into trouble or Raph yells at me too much, although he will never admit to it about crying over me nearly dying..."
"I HEARD THAT MIKEY!"
They both laughed at that, and Mikey said.
"You can touch it any time you want girl... no one else is allowed to... but you on the other hand..."
April laughed when Leo came back in and said.
"Alright Mikey, that is enough! Splinter said that if you finish that thought, you are going to the Hashi!"
Mikey stuck his tough out at him and got up, April told him.
"Thanks for the story Mikey."
He smiled when she walked away first then said to Leo in an excited voice.
"She called me Mikey!"
Leo shook his head and let that one go as the brothers headed out of the training room.
