Chapter 11: It Isn't Over Until the Fat Lady Sings
"Hello you must be Nancy," the man said standing up, a smile on his face. "You look just like your mother, but my hair color."
"Hi," she said softly, avoiding looking into his eyes. She shook his hand and sat down in one of the chairs. Sheldon sat next to her, taking her hand and squeezing gently in support. "This is my boyfriend Sheldon Cooper."
"Wow," her father said breathless. "I always believed you were out there somewhere, but I am so glad you're safe."
"Well as safe as I could be," she said an edge to her voice. "I still can't believe...I mean this doesn't seem real."
"Don't worry, we'll take this slow," Jordan said smiling softly. "I wouldn't want to overwhelm you."
"Thank you," she smiled looking at him for the first time.
Soon the waitress came and took their orders.
"Can I ask you something?" Jordan asked turning to Sheldon.
"Of course sir," Sheldon nodded.
"Are you the one who saved her?"
"Well my friends and I did," Sheldon replied humbly.
"May I ask your intentions?" Nancy flushed red, unsure of what to make of this since this was her first time meeting this man.
"My intentions," Sheldon said glancing at Nancy. "I guess, to love her as long as she'll have me."
She smiled at Sheldon, her cheeks pink.
"You two remind me of my wife and I," he smiled.
"Could you tell me about mom?" Nancy asked shyly.
"Of course, what do you want to know?" Jordan asked.
"Well what was she like?" Nancy asked. "I mean all I really remember is blood..."
"Well she was a wonderful mother, she loved you with all of her heart." He gently reached out and touched her hand lightly, before pulling back.
Over the next hour Jordan and Nancy caught up. Sheldon watched with a small smile as Nancy laughed and joked as she reunited with her true father. He was glad that Jordan was such a kind person, someone who deserved to be her father.
Soon it came to be the time Mary was supposed to pick him and Nancy up.
Sheldon placed a hand over Nancy's gently. "I hate to interrupt, but my mom should be here soon."
"Oh right," Nancy turned to her father a bright smile in place. She was so happy to know that this man was her father. "Well we should get ready to go, it was so great to meet you." Jordan stood up at the same time she did, and hesitantly gave her a hug. "We'll be here for the next week," she said.
"Well we have more time to catch up," Jordan gave a chuckle. "And it was nice to meet you too, Sheldon. Take good care of her."
"I will," Sheldon shook Jordan's hand.
Nancy lay on the bed in Missy's old room, staring at the ceiling a small smile on her face. It was now around ten at night and everyone was sleeping, but she just couldn't sleep.
A ping went off, she grabbed her phone and checked. It said she had a message, but she didn't know the number.
"Weird," she mumbled. She opened the text, what she saw made her heart drop to the floor.
I know where you are, I know who you're with little cheating whore. Say anything and I'll kill him, when you get back you're coming with me. -Colin.
She couldn't comprehend how he'd found her number. After the incident Sheldon had gotten her a whole new phone.
She couldn't breathe right, and there was a weird high pitched scream that she couldn't place.
She didn't even know when Sheldon had come in, but he was suddenly all she could see. She couldn't see his mouth forming words, but she couldn't hear it over the hysterical crying.
"Nancy!" His voice finally broke through to her, and she collapsed, everything going black.
Sheldon saw her pass out, he didn't know what he should do he was so scared he ran from the room to get his mother. He was surprised she hadn't woken up from the screaming. He flung open the door to his mother's room, he noticed she had fallen asleep with headphones in.
He shook her awake urgently, she shrieked slightly until she realized who it was.
"Shelly don't do that," Mary scolded a hand over her heart. "What's wrong?"
"Nancy passed out," he said stiffly. "I woke up to her screaming."
Mary jumped out of bed and ran towards her daughters old room. When she made it to the bed she checked to make sure everything was ok.
"Well she's fine physically." Mary said to Sheldon, who was now sitting on the bed.
"What could have happened?" He asked his face so full of worry that it made Mary's heart break a little bit.
"Something traumatic must have happened," Mary said softly laying a hand on Sheldon's back in a comforting manner.
There was suddenly a sharp gasp that drew their attention to Nancy.
Sheldon hovered over her worriedly. "Nancy are you ok?"
"Sheldon..what?" Nancy asked confused. She sat up slightly making him back off. He then noticed she was clutching her phone to her chest. He disregarded it as anything important, more worried about her.
"I came in because I heard you screaming," he said. "Then you passed out on me."
"I must have had a nightmare," she furrowed her brow trying to think back.
He pulled her into his arms then, running a soothing hand over her hair.
"It's ok, you don't have to worry about him anymore he can't hurt you." He murmured. By now the two were alone.
"I know," she replied breathlessly.
She watched as he walked out of the room, the only thing on her mind was fear. She hoped that what she'd seen in that text wasn't true.
It was the morning that they were going to leave, they were at the airport with Mary and Jordan.
"I'm so glad I came down," Nancy smiled as she hugged her father.
"I hope to come see you again soon," he said smiling back at her.
Nancy fingered the necklace he'd given her, it was one of her mothers and now she also had a picture in a frame in her bag of her with her parents.
"Thanks so much," she gestured to the necklace.
"Don't think anything of it, she would want you to have it." Jordan waved it off. "I'll see you later."
Sheldon came up and took her hand. "It was nice meeting you."
"You too Sheldon," Jordan said. "Bye kids."
Mary came up and hugged Nancy before she let them go to catch their plane.
The whole plane ride Nancy thought about Colin's text. She was glad that Sheldon was busy working on something for work, so he didn't notice her distracted state.
When they finally got home Penny and Leonard were waiting for them. Penny wrapped Nancy in a hug.
"How was your visit?" She asked while the boys were busy talking about something in hushed voices.
"Great, I thought I would be awkward," Nancy said softly. "But it really wasn't, it was nice."
"I'm glad," Penny said as they walked out to Leonard's car ahead of the guys.
"Would you mind coming to Sheldon's tomorrow morning?" Nancy asked softly. "I wanna hang out since he starts work again tomorow."
"Sure thing dollface," Penny said with a good natured laugh.
When Sheldon had seen Leonard he pulled him off a bit from the girls. "Leonard I have to talk to you about something."
"Sure what's up?"
"Well the night we arrived Nancy had a weird episode, at first I believed it was a night terror, but she's been acting weird since then." Sheldon said wringing his hands, glancing at her as she and Penny talked.
"Weird, like how?" Leonard asked.
"Well I noticed, when I found her screaming, that she was clutching her phone pretty tightly," he said. "I didn't think anything of it at the time."
"Well maybe check her phone?" Leonard asked. "I mean it would be to see if there's anything distressing on there."
"But I don't want to betray her trust," Sheldon said uncertainly.
"Well it's up to you," Leonard said. "If you don't feel comfortable doing that, just ask her."
That night Nancy decided to stay with Sheldon, after being in different rooms. She was already in bed under the covers waiting for Sheldon to finish his routine.
Her phone pinged from the side table, her stomach flopped uncomfortably. She slowly looked at the text.
Welcome home, I'll see you soon.
She honestly didn't know how to process either of the texts. She placed her phone back on the side table. Suddenly Sheldon slid into bed with her making her jump.
"You ok?" He asked.
Her mind quickly came up with an excuse. "Well it's just...the trial is coming up soon."
"Don't worry, it will be fine." He kissed her forehead. "Go to sleep, you look like you need it." She nodded as she snuggled into his side.
Before falling asleep Sheldon glanced over at the phone, wondering if something from there had been the reason for her sudden change in mood. He decided in the morning before work he'd ask about it.
The next morning when Sheldon woke up, Nancy wasn't in bed. He jumped out of bed and hurried to the door, when he opened it he could hear her laughing in the living room with Penny. It was strange considering it was 6 am.
He went back to the bed to begin his morning routine, when he noticed her phone on the end table. He glanced at the door, afraid she would know what he was going to do.
He opened it and what he saw confused him. It was a text that said 'See you soon.' Who was she texting, and it made his heart sink slightly wondering if maybe she was seeing someone else on the side. He shook his head and dispelled the image. He put the phone back and got ready quickly.
When he emerged he was greeted by the girls.
"Morning Sheldon," Penny smiled over her cup of coffee.
"You're up early." He commented.
"Nancy wanted to talk," she explained. Said girl reemerged from the bedroom her phone in hand. "So since it's my day off, and you have to go to work I decided to come keep her company."
Nancy leaned up on her toes to kiss his cheek, which sent a warm tingle down his back.
"Have a good day at work." She said with a smile.
"Knowing that I'll come home to you, of course I will." Sheldon smiled cheekily at her. She only blushed in response.
"Come on Sheldon, we'll be late if you don't hurry up." Leonard said from the open front door.
"You're such a nag," Sheldon said shaking his head with a smile.
"So what did you want to talk about?" Penny asked as she painted Nancy's nails.
"If I tell you, you can't tell Sheldon." Nancy took a deep breath to calm her nerves.
"What's wrong?" Penny asked stopping what she was doing, only to have a phone shoved in her face. She read the messages her eyes growing wide. "Who's Colin?"
"You remember that boyfriend I had?" Nancy asked wincing, Penny gave her a glare.
"When did you get the first message?" Penny demanded.
"The first day in Texas." Nancy looked at her hands, focusing on the one nail that was painted.
"Why haven't you told him yet?" Penny asked.
"Because I don't know how." Nancy admitted with a sniff. God she was so tired of crying, she felt like a fool.
"Sweetie you have to find a way," Penny said giving Nancy a friendly hug. "He won't be mad."
"I'm not worried about him being mad," she said softly. "What if what he says is true?"
"Show Detective Maxwell." Penny suggested.
"Ok," Nancy said. But she knew in the back of her mind that she wouldn't tell him. She hoped maybe she could just take care of this by herself. She didn't want any of her friends to get hurt over her stupid mistakes.
"Ok I just remembered, if we want to eat tonight I better go to the store." Penny said looking over to Nancy. "Want to come with?"
"No I'd rather be alone for a bit." Nancy said with a reassuring smile.
"Ok if you're sure," Penny said, not sure leaving Nancy alone was a good idea. She couldn't force the redhead to leave. "Be back in a half an hour."
"Ok, Penny seriously I'll be fine." Nancy assured her friend.
Then she was alone with her thoughts. She closed her eyes and leaned her head against the back of the couch. How was she seriously going to deal with this, especially with the trial date coming up soon.
"I found you." She opened her eyes and screamed. Then everything went black
AN: I hope that this chapter is still up to par with the rest of the story, I realize the part with her father was short. But do not fear we'll see him again. Well enjoy and remember reviews are always appreciated. And I know it's been quite awhile since I last updated, so hopefully it won't be as long for the next update. ;) Later
