PART TWO

"Come and get me, Kitt!" Sera shouted, laughing as she raced through the rain.

The vehicle behind her playfully revved, but although Kitt came close he didn't seem to be quite able to catch her. Sera didn't realize he was holding back though, so as she dodged the trees and bushes on the Foundation property she thought she was pretty much invincible.

"You'll never catch me!" She shouted, and then abruptly turned around to race in the other direction, hoping it would buy her some time while Kitt turned around.

And it did. It took Kitt ten seconds longer than it normally would to turn around. Not that she noticed.

"Home is base! Home is base!" She screamed, realizing that she was running out of energy. Kitt realized it too, he must have; he was now gaining on her.

She screeched to a halt at one wall of the mansion, touching it just before Kitt caught up with her. She slipped a little on the mud around the house, but despite the mud and the rain she did not relinquish her touch on the wall.

"HAH!" She shouted triumphantly, "I won! I get a minute head start, starting...now!" She raced off away from the wall, but Kitt stayed behind, dutifully waiting until the minute was up.

"You'll never catch me!" Sera taunted, but she wasn't watching where she was going.

Karr was pulling out of the garage just as Sera was crossing the driveway. Luckily he saw her long before she saw him, and he came to a full stop just before she ran right into his side.

"Watch it!" Karr reprimanded.

"Sorry," Sera said, grinning wildly as she picked herself up and raced behind him to head around the house.

"That girl sure is a ball of energy," Officer David said, shaking his head with a smile inside Karr's cabin.

"She'd better start watching where she's going." Karr said, continuing down the driveway, "And why on earth is Kitt letting her run around in this rain?"

"You'll NEVER get me, Kitt!" Sera said, screaming as loudly as she could.

"It's best not to worry about it," Officer David said, "Michael and Bonnie aren't worried."

"Michael Knight and Bonnie Knight think that it's good for Kitt to take care of her," Karr stated, "They're not going to refuse him anything. And Kitt won't refuse the girl anything. But if she catches a cold-"

"Relax, Karr, relax!" Officer David smirked, "Is this the voice of a mother hen I hear?"

"I can eject you at any time. Do not patronize me."

"Duly noted," Karr's partner cleared his throat, "So, what's our current mission?"

"Come on, Kitt!" Sera shouted, "Try to catch me! I DARE you!"

She raced around the house just as Karr and Officer David drove out of sight, but then she slipped on a patch of mud and careened into the side of the house.

"OW!" She shouted, standing back up again. One knee was bleeding.

Kitt, hearing her voice of distress, came around the corner faster than he had been driving before.

"I'm okay, Kitt." Sera told him, "Let's keep playing!"

But Kitt wouldn't move.

"Kitt, I said I'm okay!" Sera cried out, "Let's play!"

Kitt still wouldn't move.

"Come on, let's play!" Sera said, starting to cry, "Play!" She repeated.

"Seraphim, you're hurt. Let's get you cleaned up."

Sera stopped.

"Who said that?" She asked, wiping off her tears.

In answer, Kitt opened up his driver's side door.

"Kitt?" Sera asked, "Did you just talk?"

Silence. Then,

"Yes." Kitt said, "Come on, little one. Let's get you cleaned up."

"I like your voice," Sera said, getting inside, "You should talk more."

"Maybe I will." Kitt said, "I'll tell Bonnie to get you a band-aid. In fact, why don't I call her right now?"

"Really?" Sera asked.

"Really." Kitt said.

The sound of a telephone penetrated his cabin.

"Hello?" Bonnie said, answering the phone on the other end.

"Bonnie? Seraphim is bleeding. Can you get her a band-aid for her knee?"

On their end of the phone, Kitt and Sera heard Bonnie gasp.

"Of-of course, Kitt." She said, "I'll get her a band-aid. Right away."

"And will you ask Michael to come over?" Kitt added, "I'd like to speak with him."

"Sure," Bonnie said, a smile in her voice, "I will."

"See you soon, Bonnie." Kitt said.

"Bye!" Sera added.

"See you in a few, you two." Bonnie said, and Kitt hung up the phone.

"That wasn't so hard, was it?" Sera asked innocently.

"Not at all." Kitt said, "Now that I'm talking, how about I tell you a story while we wait for Bonnie?"

Sera nodded-several times, even.
