DNW chapter 10
A/N: So I haven't gotten any reviews about the Disney competition I talked about. Should I stop or should I make them easier? Review telling me your opinion.
Disclaimer:I don't own anything Divergent related.
"Ready?" Eric's eyes shone with excitement.
"Ready as ever," I say. He starts counting down from 5 and as soon as he says 1, we jump.
Tris's POV
Our feet simultaneously slam into the dirt ground, near the main building.
I look around and my eyes grow wide as they soak in all of the mesmerizing colors. The bright red and yellow clothes, the different shades of green botany, and the vibrant flowers are not things you see in Dauntless.
I've been here once, when I was about 13 and still lived in Abnegation. We had come to do a service project so the Amity could have a break from their hard labor. I would pick the apples off of the lower branches that I could easily reach, jumping is too self indulgent. While I picked the lower branches with Caleb and the other children, all the adults stood above us and picked off the high branches.
It was hot that day, sweat was dripping down our backs as we stood in the sun underneath all of our heavy robes. One lady, probably in her forties, passed out and my dad was one of the volunteers to carry her inside. We picked from early that morning to just before sunset, only stopping for lunch and the occasional water breaks. We went home exhausted and sweaty.
Now I stand here and absorb the sights my Abnegation eyes averted in my past experience here.
"It is beautiful out here isn't it?" a lady to my left says, pulling me out of my daze.
"Yes it is very pretty," I smile slightly at her.
"Johanna Reyes," she holds her hand out for me to shake. That is a Dauntless gesture, Amity usually hug in greeting.
"Tris Prior," I take her hand and awkwardly shake it twice. I need to improve on that.
"You must be the new Dauntless ambassador," she smiles.
"Yes, I am," I say as I glance over to Eric, who is talking with who I presume is the male representative for Amity. They glance over at us and see me looking.
They soon start walking over to us. "Hello! My name is Jeremy," the guy Eric was talking to says quite cheery.
"Tris," I reply and nod my head in greeting.
"Nice to meet you," he smiles a giant, grin I can only describe as Amity.
"You too," I give him a small grin.
"Now that we have all met, I can show you to your rooms and you can put your stuff down and use the facilities if needed," Johanna turns on her heel and starts walking toward a medium sized building to the right of the main building. We pick up our bags and hurry to catch up with her.
"The main building is where we serve every meal, so dinner tonight will be in there. It also holds all the conference rooms and representatives' offices," Jeremy explains as we walk.
"The building to left is the greenhouse. We grow certain plants for medicine in there. It is currently corn season, so out in the fields you saw earlier we are growing our corn crop," Johanna motions to the different places as she speaks about them.
When we reach the building, Johanna pushes a set of doors open to reveal a front room with several couches and coffee tables. "This is where people come to visit after a long harvest," Jeremy explains again.
"Down the hallway to the right is Ms. Prior's room at the very end of the hall in room 10. And across from her room is Mr. Manz in room 12," Johanna pushes us toward the narrow hallway. "We meet in conference room 2 at 1:15. I expect that Mr. Manz can show our new visitor the way?" Johanna raises her eyebrows in Eric's direction.
"We will be there. And I will escort Tris," Eric says before Johanna and Jeremy turn around and leave.
"Allons-y," I say before walking down the hallway, scanning the door numbers till I reach the end. Room 10, on the left with room 12 on the right.
"Be ready at 1, we will want to leave a little early," Eric says before entering his room and I enter mine.
When I enter the room, the first thing I notice is wood. All the furniture is made of wood; the bed frame, side table, dresser, desk, and the matching chair.
The bedspread is a dull red color and is neatly tucked under the mattress with several pillows at the head. On the side table next to it is a lamp with a vibrant yellow lampshade. I set my duffel bag on the floor at the end of the bed.
On the adjacent wall is a dresser, that I won't use because we will only be here overnight. It is, like everything else, wooden and has 5 drawers for clothing and such.
Against another wall, is the desk. It is a simple wooden desk with one drawer and a mirror hanging on the wall infront of it. The matching chair is tucked under the desk. I decide to pull the chair out and put my backpack in it, pulling out my phone charger on my way back to the bed.
I plop down on the bed and it makes a slight groan under my weight. I plug my charger into the outlet next to the bed and plug my phone in to charge. Earlier I promised Tobias that I would text him when I got here, so I did just that. (Bold is Tris, regular is Tobias)
Hey, I'm safely in Amity.
It takes a minute before he replies: Good. What are you doing now?
Just chilling in my room till I have to leave for a conference at 1:15.
Sounds like fun.
Yeah, stuck in a room with a bunch of hippies.
And Eric.
About him...
What did he do?
Right when I finish reading the text, there is a knock on the door.
"Tris, it is time to go," I hear Eric call from the other side.
"I'll be right there," I yell back.
I got to go. I'll call you later and tell you everything. Was my last text to Tobias.
I got up and ran to the door, swinging it open. Eric is leaning against the wall on the other side of the hallway. "You might want to bring your laptop. We want it to look like we are playing attention and taking notes," he says.
"Just a sec," I run to the desk and slide my laptop out of my backpack.
"Ready?" Eric asks as I walk out again and close the door.
"Yep," I smile and follow him down the hallway and across the soft grass until we entered the main building and turned down a hall, stoping at door 2.
A/N: sorry for the late update. It is my fault, I've been doing nothing but watching Netflix and reading other fanfics, instead of writing. Next update will be faster than this one hopefully. Thanks for reading!
