Twisted Cinderella Story

The Sky That Cries Blood

Warning: Character Death

"Look Yuusei," he pointed to the sky. "It's crying for you."

Somehow it was true. The Fifth Kingdom was a very scary place. The sky was always the colour of blood and the castle was coloured black. It looked like something out of a scary book. We were on a balcony, no, it was an open ledge watching the sky rain blood. I lifted my hand to the sky and decided this is what I wanted to do. I was going to destroy this person even if it killed me. I would finish what she started and this time for the sake of her family and mine, I would destroy him.

"I suppose it is, isn't it?" The detachment of time weighed heavily on my body. I couldn't tell how long we had or hadn't been there. I was happy, my babies had just been born, I was giving a speech about them and then suddenly it was over. I was being consumed by the darkness and the voice calling out to me was fading slowly.

"Why do you cry?" I flinched at the voice and the pale hand that came away from my face held tears. "Aren't you happy here? With me?"

I shook my head. There was no way I could be happy. Not in this hell. "I am not. I miss my beautiful children, my loving husband, my friends, my kingdom. I miss it all."

His grip around my waist tightened. "You're so ungrateful." His voice was soft and somewhat kind. I expected it to be angry but his tone showed no traces of irritation. "I have done so much to get you here. So much to make you mine and you tell me you don't appreciate it? You're terrible."

I laughed but the tears didn't stop flowing. I was going to drown in the darkness but the thoughts of my children allowed me to see the light between the darkness. "How can you say an insult like that as if it's a compliment?"

"It's been a month!"

Neo Domino was in chaos since 'that person' made his appearance and stole away their pure heart princess. They feared death and destruction to their lives if the pure heart gave in but their loyalty to their kingdom wouldn't allow them to leave. The select few that tried to leave realized that Old Domino wouldn't be better and they refused to lower themselves to Satellite where they knew it wouldn't do them any good.

The infant prince and princess were under the care of a wet nurse who cared for them throughout the days as the Crown Prince Jack was in no state to care for them as he tirelessly tried to find a way into the dark kingdom to save his wife.

"I can't believe you would abandon your children as such." Jonathan shook his head. "I never thought I raised you to be such a horrible father. Were my examples so horrible?"

"Father please. You don't understand how this is affecting me. You lost mother this way. I lost mother and now I'm losing my wife too! I can't handle this." Jack was close to tears but as a man, he wouldn't allow himself to cry. "I want to see them, I do, but if I do I might breakdown. They need to get used to their surroundings, they don't need my stress right now."

Jonathan was speechless. He didn't think his son would have such a good excuse for avoiding his own newborns who had just turned a month old a few days ago.

"Yuui is going to kill you when he finds out."

"I know father," Jack sighed. "I know. I rather him be back here to do that than there."

The doors slammed open and a messenger panted out, "My king! It's started!"

Jack and Jonathan ran outside the castle to look at the sky, the same sky they had seen seventeen years prior. The clouds were moving in, as if a storm was brewing. Dark, almost black clouds moved quickly and the many people that watched began to cry or pray. At this moment with the darkness moving so quickly, one of two things could be happening.

"Either he has taken Yuusei by force and the darkness has spread quickly because of the tainted light or Yuusei has given himself up to the darkness and the darkness will spread across everything quickly because of the increase in power." Jonathan explained to no one in particular.

The skies were darkening too quickly and Jack watched the darkness spread in frustration. "What are you doing there Yuusei?!"

"Come, the bed awaits us."

My heart pounded at the thought. I couldn't let this person do what he wanted with me. My children and Jack were waiting for me.

"Why?" I questioned, "why are you in such a rush? The darkness is beautiful as it is."

He was silent and I hoped that my stall would work.

"I suppose." He didn't try to get up anymore.

After a few moments of silence I couldn't help myself. "How long has it been?"

"Hmm?" He responded, "time moves so slowly here, it's probably been about a month."

"A month?" I breathed. I've already missed a whole month of their lives? How could I make up for that?

"Do you have something waiting for you?"

My anger spiked. "Of course I do! I have a family. A husband and children that need me! I've missed a whole month and you ask me that?!" I was standing by this time.

He stared at me blankly, his scarlet irises showing nothing. "I suppose I've given you enough leeway. It's time to become mine completely."

He stood too and grabbed my wrist. I struggled and kicked out at him but he didn't waver and my incision site began to burn. "Let go of me!"

It was a canopy bed with curtains on all sides. I couldn't give it a second look as he threw me on it. My stomach was on fire and I was afraid the cut had opened up. I panicked as he climbed on top of me and pulled up the dress I still donned. I pushed him away and he held my hands down.

"Why are you fighting me? You don't have to fight it, I won't make it painful."

The darkness would consume me if I allowed him to do this. I would lose everyone and everything if I let him do this. I imagined my children, asleep and peaceful, but if I didn't fight, they would never get to know life. I couldn't let that happen.

A shout brought me back to my senses and I looked at Primo who was holding his face where it was beginning to decay. "What did you do?!"

I sat up and Martha's voice called out to me clearly. "You can hear me!"

"Martha!" I smiled. "Where were you?"

"You are in the realm of darkness. It was overwhelming the light but it's shining through because of your resistance and faith. Keep thinking of your cute ones. It should help you."

He reached for me again but the moment he touched me, a light shined brightly and his hand began to dissolve as well. He backed away and I reached for him this time with the thoughts of Renton, Ori and Jack.

"Julinda didn't have this much light within her when she fought back. This is amazing" Martha commented.

Julinda Atlus entered my thoughts too, the king, Rally, Crow, everyone I wanted to return to. I advanced on him and he backed outside the window. "How are you doing this?" He asked. "You are supposed to submit to me!"

"I submit to no one!" I lunged forward and pressed my hand to his chest. "Go to hell and never come back!"

He fell from the ledge and plunged into the deep darkness below, his entire body falling apart.

The scarlet sky seemed to collapse in on itself and Martha called to me. "Hold on. The realm is collapsing. I should be able to transport you back to the castle."

A bright light sprouted from my necklace and I closed my eyes in hope that I would make it out alive.

The darkness was close, so close the air was beginning to get cold.

"Is this the end?" Jack questioned himself. "Yuusei wasn't able to escape.."

He fell to one knee as the darkness clouded overhead and began to give up hope until a warmth spread over his body. "What?"

A light shined through the darkness and Jack grinned through tears. "He made it!"

The sadness that tore through his chest was painful as he thought about the fact that he probably disappeared along with the darkness like his mother did.

The light was bright now, almost blinding and Yuusei fell through the light unnoticed as Martha had intended. He had defeated the bearer of darkness and as happy as the necklace fairy felt, she was also sad that she had to depart since her job was done. At least, until a new bearer of darkness would appear and she hoped that would never happen.

The light faded and people cheered as the darkness dispersed. Jack shook his head as sobs wracked his body. He had lost everything anyway, just as he meant to. He still had his beautiful children but how could he face them without Yuusei? They were splitting images of Yuusei, with their downy black hair and round faces and beautiful eye shape but they had his vibrant, violet eyes. How could he face them?

"Why are you on the ground, my love? Shouldn't you be happy?"

Jack jumped and looked up at his love who was smiling brightly at him. He was up in a flash, holding Yuusei as tight as he could.

"I thought I lost you!" Jack gasped. "You were gone from me!"

Yuusei hugged his husband back and allowed Jack his desires despite not being able to breathe. "I'm here, you didn't lose me. I'm here."

"Yuui!" Jack let go of Yuusei and the raven grinned as the king and Bruno ran to them. "You did it! I'm so proud of you!"

Yuusei laughed and the wonderful breeze blew by them as the sun shined brightly on them. The darkness dispersed and the cheers echoed across the sky and Yuusei thought that things couldn't get more perfect.

"He still hasn't woken up yet."

Yuusei sat next to Crow in silence as he held Rally's hand. Jack told him that the day he was taken, Rally fell unconscious and never woke back up. Crow was ecstatic to see his best friend again but he was worried more about the only family he had left.

Yuusei reassured Crow that he wasn't upset and the he was worried about Rally too but he couldn't allow his friend to skip meals any longer. He pulled Crow as he kicked and screamed to eat and threatened to lock him in a room away from Rally if he refused to eat. Crow ate half a plate of food before he rushed back to the infirmary where he sat.

"He's cute." Crow commented as Yuusei bottle fed Renton.

"He is." Yuusei replied, mesmerized with his little boy's face as he ate. "He got so big while I was gone. My little prince. I can believe I missed it, his first month."

"He looks the same. Like a regular baby now."

"They were born two months premature but they're both healthy and that's all I'm worried about."

"Speaking of both," Crow looked around, "where's his sister?"

"Jack has her. He's showing off his little princess to the nobles at lunch, he's so proud."

"Of course," Jack entered the infirmary with a screaming Ori in his arms. "They're the product of our love."

"What's the matter?" Yuusei asked but Jack stopped him from standing.

"You know she doesn't like to be away from him for long periods of time. She's just cranky." He replied and situated Ori in Yuusei's arms next to her brother and stopped crying. "See?"

They had found the many habits of their children once Yuusei had returned and as Jonathan had predicted, Yuusei chewed Jack for abandoning their children for a whole month. He had refused to look at Jack and hid away in a room in the castle with the twins for a whole seventeen days before Jack had begged him to forgive him and Yuusei had only agreed because of the lack of sleep and irritation. Yuusei updated Jack on the missed two weeks and three days but swore that he would get his revenge.

After a month and a half since the darkness was defeated, Jack and Yuusei had a schedule down and their twins had good habits and a good schedule so now the only thing they waited for was Rally.

"He's missing it." Yuusei said softly. "I want to talk to him alone, maybe he'll hear me. Can you give me a few minutes?"

Crow and Jack nodded and Crow went to find something to occupy his time for five minutes while Jack went to put their kids down in their cots.

Yuusei got close to Rally and stroked his hair. "I don't know if you can hear me Rally, but if you can I want you to know that I'm not upset with you, I still love you, you're still my cute little brother and we're all waiting for you to come back to us."

"Nee-san."

Yuusei gasped at Rally but the tears wouldn't stop for him because his little brother wasn't coming back.

His little Rally wasn't in his body, he was floating above it, a smile on his chubby face and gray eyes gleaming. "I'm sorry, Nee-san."

"Why Rally?" Yuusei reached out and Rally touched his fingers before his own hand went right through.

"It was meant to be like this. I don't want to leave Nee-san but I had fun. I'm glad I was able to spend time with you as myself. Now that the darkness isn't holding me down to that body, I get to be free. Your light helped me be free."

"Oh Rally!" Yuusei shook his head.

"Don't cry Nee-san, I'll be with mother and father now. Crow-nii will be okay because he has you. Take care of him." Rally kissed Yuusei's cheek and disappeared.

"Thank you Nee-san."

The laying of Rally's body took place the next day. Crow didn't take Yuusei's explanation well and he cried over his brother's body for the rest of the day and night. He was silent through the procession but told Yuusei he would be returning to Old Domino to fulfill his duties as Earl. Jack and Yuusei waved in sadness as his carriage departed and Yuusei held onto Ori tightly as she slept.

Ten weeks, that how old their little infants were. They were sad but their little ones would keep them distracted for a little while longer.

"Do you think Crow will be okay?" Yuusei questioned as they cuddled together that night.

"I sent someone with him, I trust him but losing everything he found must have been a huge blow and it would be horrible if he decided to join them." Jack sighed, "I wasn't going to refuse to let him leave though, I think he'll be just fine after some time."

Right on cue, Renton and Ori cried simultaneously and the two parents had bottles on the ready.

The room filled with the noises of feeding babies and Yuusei smiled. "Our trials and tribulations have led to this happily ever after, haven't they?"

Jack grinned at his wife and shook his head, "trust me love, this happily ever after is far from over."
