DNW chapter 11
A/N: I'm gonna switch it up a bit and do either some or all of this chapter in Eric's POV. Hope y'all like it. Tell me what you think in a review or pm me. I like hearing/reading your feedback.
"Ready?" Eric asks as I walk out again and close the door.
"Yep," I smile and follow him down the hallway and across the soft grass until we entered the main building and turned down a hall, stopping at door 2.
Eric's POV
I check my watch; 1:12, 3 minutes early. I pull the door open," Ladies first," I gesture for Tris to enter the room.
"Thank you," she says barely over a whisper. I just nod and enter after her, closing the door behind me.
"Tris, Eric! Just on time. Come sit down," Johanna chirps. Tris glances back at me and I give her a reassuring smile. She quickly returns one and turns back around, striding for the table. I follow suit and take the seat to the right of Tris, across from Jeremy who is next to Johanna.
I set my laptop on the table and log on, I can see out of the corner of my eye that Tris is doing the same. I flick my eyes up to see Johanna logging onto an old looking laptop and Jeremy just watching the screen. Everyone sits up at the same time after their laptop logs on.
Johanna speaks first, "Since this is just a faction visit, not a complete meeting with the other factions, we thought that we would just inform you on how our growing and water filtration is going and how quickly we can send stuff out to Dauntless."
"Alright, is there a presentation that we need to pull up on our screens?" I ask.
"Yes actually, there is. It is under the Amity file, labeled Dauntless Visit Spring 4034," Jeremy says as he takes the mouse and pulls it up on his computer. Tris and I search and once we find it, pull it up on our screens as well.
"You can continue. I think we are ready," I look to Tris for confirmation. She just nods.
"So as I said after you arrived, we are currently growing corn. Harvest will start in approximately 8 weeks, and we will be shipping out, hopefully, the week after. We have already sent this weeks portions of meat; pork, beef, chicken, and turkey," Johanna clicks through the presentation as we follow on our own laptops.
"So explain to me how you ship food and how you know what to ship and which faction to send it to?" Tris pips up.
"Every week, we send a shipment of meats. Monday is to Dauntless, Tuesday is to Erudite, Wednesday is to Candor, and Thursday we ship just chicken to Abnegation. Then when supplies are running low in the kitchen and grocery stores, the manager/head chef calls and gives us a list in order of top priority to least priority," Jeremy explains.
"So then how do you ship the foods that need to be refrigerated? I don't remember seeing train cars with air conditioning," Tris asks.
"We have a special train car that we hook up to the back and when they aren't using it, they leave it at the end of the tracks," Johanna replies. Tris just nods in understanding.
"And the water filtration systems?" I rush them, wanting to get this meeting over with.
"Ah yes, that is a little complicated. The filtering device has broken down many times in the past few months. The Erudite are designing a new one, but it won't be built for at least another 5 months. Seeing that this is one of the main sources of fresh, clean water, we need someone to come up with an idea soon," Jeremy flips through a small notepad that he must if had in his pocket.
"What do you think is the most logical and efficient way to approach this problem?" Tris asks, sounding very Erudite.
"Never seen such curious Dauntless," Johanna remarks.
"Yeah, well I'm not the typical Dauntless girl. Now answer my question," Tris almost growls.
"Fine, don't get your panties in a wad. We think the smartest idea would be to build a temporary filter, modeled after the ones we have now to take their place till the Erudite invent a new one," Jeremy is obviously the one who knows more about this out of the two of them.
"Sounds intelligent. I'd say go for it, but it isn't my decision to make," Tris says.
"We will hold a gathering in the cafeteria later next week and vote as a faction. We can contact Dauntless when we have made our decision," Johanna finally steps up and speaks again.
"Okay," Tris and I say simultaneously. We look at each other and burst out laughing.
"Are you two together or something?" Jeremy raises his eyebrows in confusion. We turn to each other again and laugh even harder. "I'm taking that as a yes?" Jeremy says it like a question.
"No, I have an amazing boyfriend in Dauntless. Four," Tris stops laughing and smiles when she mentions Four. By the lost look in her eyes, I can tell that they are meant to be together.
"Here, this is him," she says as she pulls out her phone. She shows them her wallpaper, a picture of them both making funny faces to the camera. She swipes to the left to the next picture, Four is kissing Tris's cheek as she smiles and looks at him out of the corner of her eyes.
"Aww, y'all are too cute," Johanna smiles at Tris. Her cheeks flush a soft pink as she utters a thank you.
"So back to business," I butt in.
"Ah yes, any more questions?" Jermey asks. No one says anything, so we move on to the Dauntless presentation. I instruct everyone to pull the file up and they do as I say.
"So first thing is first," Tris starts off our presentation,"we have decided to bump the amount of new members of up to 14 instead of 10."
"And why is this?" Johanna questions.
"We have noticed how the population has been decreasing in our faction, while everyone else has been increasing or staying constant. We will drop it back to 10 after our population is back up," I explain. Everyone nods in understanding.
"And the only other point that we are making is that we will be adding more security cameras around the compound for the ability to see all of the compound. Leader office cameras will be set so only certain people can see when they log in, and as always, there will be no cameras in the apartments," Tris finishes off.
"Sounds like you all have everything under high surveillance," Jeremy comments.
"Only the best," I respond.
"Very good. I've seen improvement in Dauntless since you became a leader, Eric," Johanna compliments.
"Thank you ma'am," I give a small smile along with a slight head nod. Johanna reflects me.
"Y'all are free to go. It has been a long day traveling and I'm sure you are hungry. Feel free to get dinner anytime you want," Jeremy says as he gets up and opens the door behind us.
We stand and follow behind him until we are right at the door. I turn and he holds his hand out to shake, a Dauntless greeting. I comply and grasp his hand in mine and shake twice and nod my head as I exit the room.
I watch as Tris says her goodbyes to the both and awkwardly shakes both of their hands before joining me in the hall. "Want to drop the laptops back in our rooms then come back for food?" I ask her.
"Yeah, sounds good to me," she answers and we walk back to our rooms in a quick pace, reaching the building in less than 7 minutes.
We split once we get to our rooms and from what I saw of Tris's room, they are exactly identical. I go over to the desk and gently put my laptop down before taking my phone and checking for any texts from Max; nothing.
There is a light knock in the door and I get up from my place on the bed to answer. As expected, it was Tris ready for dinner. I closed my door and walked behind Tris down the hallway and out the door to the dining room.
A/N: sorry for updating at like 10:30 at night(central time). I promised a chapter Sunday so I had to hurriedly finish writing this. Next chapter might not be as long, and I might not be able to update either. I'm going on mission trip to an Indian reserve and I may not have internet access. So if there is no update next week, you know where I will be. Thanks for reading!
