"There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact."
Arthur Conan Doyle
Tessa woke up, tired and aching all over. She touched what had hurt most last night, but it is now swollen, so she could barely feel her own touch. She blushed at the thought of what happened last night. She was already the mother of two, yet still she is naïve to somethings. Like the things Will did to her, which were completley not mentioned by even the most promiscuous books she had read, and that is saying much because she had scour most of London for books to read. But the way Will made love to her last night, it felt like she was the heroine of one of the old fantasy books she used to read.
"So this is what happens to Lizzie and Mr Darcy after they got married," muttered Tessa. Yet she knew that since she was not married, she can never fully become Lizzie. She swatted the bitter idea away, rang for her handmaid, got dressed, and worked on putting makeup on her face, which helped hide the years away.
She did not know at what point when Will slipped into the room, but he said out of nowhere, "I dislike the idea of you putting on makeup," which gave her a bit of a fright, but not enough to scare her off her stool, after all, she is trained Shadowhunter.
"Well, tell me when you've had two children and having to raise them by yourself," Tessa could not help but sound bitter.
Will then leaned in, and Tessa's maid blushed and rushed out.
"You know I meant it. You are still beautiful," which earned a glare from Tessa. "You were beautiful, and you will still be beautiful, the day you are on your death bed."
Tessa's frown softened. She stands up, smoothing out her maroon dress, then said to Will, "Well, I believe you. Shall we go wake the children?"
It was then that Will's scowl softens a bit, but it quickly returned when it took less than 5 minutes that the children started an infernal racket. They were alert alright, but incredibly energetic, which made him doubt why they did not wake up to the noises last night, but it was soon answered.
"Mummy, why did you train with Daddy in your room last night?" asked William Jr.
"Well, umm… uh…" Tessa was flaberghasted. But Will was there for her rescue.
"The world is dangerous out there. I have been travelling a lot, and had a few tricks up my sleeve that I bet your mother did not know, so I taught her," said Will, without even a hint of hesitation.
To which the children simply replied, "Alright." Before being distracted by other things, like their toys and food.
"I don't want any toys on my table," demanded Tessa.
The children reluctantly retreated their toy swords and guns from the table.
It took almost forever to make the children focus and finish their food, which frustrated Tessa; it took a while to clean the children, which frustrated Tessa; then when it was time to teach them music, it took an eternity to take away their endless supply of toy weapons, which also frustrated Tessa. But with Will's help, all went smoother than usual, as if his aura of a father figure had calmed down her children for a bit, even though they were as unruly as usual.
And everything were completely well when it was time for children to train as Shadowhunters, different weapons and runes were taught by Will. He was much better than Tessa at teaching these, as he was born and raised in them, as opposed to Tessa being trained briefly by the Lightwood brothers. To Tessa's delight, the children had taken after their father, being athletic and powerful, always ready for the next punch or next throw; they had learned much from their father that afternoon, much more than what Tessa was capable of teaching.
As the children grew slightly more weary by the hour, Tessa got them to sit down for a quick dinner, then put them into bath. Will was a novice in cleaning them, but he tried his best, offering assistance when he saw the opportunities, which helped ease the process a lot.
Then Tessa took a bath herself, despite Will's strong suggestion that they take a bath together. When Tessa washed off her makeup, brushed her hair, and readied for bed, to her surprise Will had reside on her bed, reading from none other than the book of white.
"What are you doing, reading that cursed book?" asked Tessa.
"Nothing much, just wanted to check with what I had known," said Will, but he was stiff, as if hiding something from Tessa, of which Tessa knew better. It did nothing but raised her suspicion.
"Are you involved with any plans? Are you in dealings with downworlders, warlocks and such? What have you been doing since you got back to London?" Tessa did not want to sound paranoid, but she was greatly alarmed.
"It's a mistake, alright? I was just checking to see if something I saw in town was a spell, and it wasn't. Better?" said Will again stiffly.
Tessa was not satisfied, but knew it was too late to raise an argument. So she decided to question Will the next morning.
Little did she knew, it was not necessary.
Please favourite and review, it would be much appreciated.
