Mistletoe Madness Chapter 6 September 5, October 16 & 30, 2014
That last chapter wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. I wanted it to be funnier. Sure didn't come across that way :b
Anyways, next chapter
\Krum\
There were two things that were in Krum's head as soon as he woke up. One was the realization that the Yule Ball was now only four days away, the other was the decision of asking Hermione to the Yule Ball no matter what. With these in mind, he threw the covers off himself, dressed in a baggy white shirt and black pants, and ran as fast he could up to the castle for breakfast.
Viktor knew that there was absolutely no chance of him sitting anywhere at the Slytherin table. The only problem with this was that now he didn't know where to sit. A few fifth-year Hufflepuff girls tried to wave him over, giggling and winking like there was no tomorrow. He ignored them. The next thing he saw was Draco Malfoy's glare stabbing him in the chest. Viktor did his best to not look back at him. After a few more seconds of simply looking into the Hall, trying to decide where he should go, he finally saw what he was looking for; the fluffy head of brown hair was some twenty feet away from where he was standing. He steeled himself, and walked towards Hermione Jean Granger.
"May I sit here?" Krum made tried to make his voice as friendly as possible. The red-haired boy, whom he recognized from their last encounter here, apparently did not know how to speak English. Just as last time, all he did was open and close his mouth.
"Sure." Hermione said it with a small smile, patting the empty space beside her. Viktor slid in as carefully as possible, but still succeeded in knocking Harry's goblet of pumpkin juice over. Harry and Hermione laughed a little, Ron continuing to stare unabashedly at him. Krum muttered an apology and reached for the small pyramid of napkins at the same time Hermione did, their fingers touching as they each took theirs to clean up the mess. Tingles shot through Viktor's hand as he soaked up the juice into the napkin, and only after he was finished did he realize that he had been staring at that hand the entire time.
"Her-mo-ninny, I would-"
"Well, I'm off to the library now! I need to finish Flitwick's essay." Hermione said brightly, standing up with her book bag already over her shoulder. Krum thought that maybe it hadn't been the best time anyways. Mumbling some excuse about needing information for the second Task, Viktor also stood up and began making his way to the library, careful not to be seen by Hermione. Looking like he was stalking her would not win him any points.
Following that mane of brown hair was a much easier said than done. Hermione, as Krum was quickly finding out, had quite good hearing, and turned around repeatedly whenever Krum's boots squeaked along the floor. Suits of armour, trophy cases and their contents, and desks were just a few of the obstacles in the hallway. After a very stressful five minutes, Krum once again found himself in the position of hiding behind a bookshelf, waiting for a good opportunity to ask Hermione the question.
The studious Gryffindor had, as usual, a stack of books at least two feet high. All that could be seen of her was her brown hair puffing out to the sides and her elbows resting on the table.
"I most certainly did not think that this vould be so hard." Krum said quietly to himself. However, he knew there was no way around it, so he straightened up, smoothed his shirt once, and crossed over to Hermione's table. He grabbed the first book he saw off the shelf, and sat down across from her, pretending to be engrossed while peeking at her from the corner of his eye.
"What are you looking for?" Hermione's voice startled the teen, despite the fact that he was right beside her.
"Um…chells – sparns…" Krum stuttered like a fool, "Spells! I'm looking for…spells." Krum finished lamely, calling himself multiple names internally.
"In that book?" Hermione asked sceptically. The Durmstrang student had unknowingly pulled down a book that contained information on the Unforgivable Curses, and was now on that page.
"No!" Krum began frantically flipping through the pages, looking for something that wasn't evil, but nothing came. As quickly as he had rifled those pages, he slammed the book shut with a bang loud enough to earn him a frown from the librarian. Krum stood up, and his chair scraped along the floor, causing him to flinch visibly from the horrible sound. To complete the whole clumsy ensemble, he dropped the book he had been "reading."
"Sorry…" Viktor muttered as he picked up the book and placed it carefully back on its shelf. There was an awkward silence as Krum sat back down, and since he had nothing to say, he simply watched her as she returned to her reading. He continued staring. The two students remained like this for quite some time, Hermione engrossed in her book, Viktor fascinated by Hermione. It was a while before the Gryffindor looked up.
"Can I help you?" She was frowning slightly, for she had no idea why some dark teenager who liked to play Quidditch would be watching her.
"Um…maybe?" Krum still didn't know how to talk to girls. "Um, vouldoolikeoocometoaballwime?"
"Pardon?" Hermione was still very polite, but also getting more nervous. Viktor took a deep breath and repeated slower, "Vould you like to go to the Yule Ball with me?" He braced himself for a hard rejection and looked away, but when he turned again to face Hermione, she had a small smile on her face.
"I would like that," She said shyly. Hermione had never been asked to anything ever, let alone a Ball. Maybe things were looking up in the ways of romance.
Happy Halloween
