A/N: Back again with another installment, I hope you all like where I'm going with this, remember to drop a review, I know that you're reading, but I only got one review on the last chapter, and I'd love to hear your feedback. I'll try to get back to you if I can and answer any questions that won't spoil the plot.

Luxa awoke to the familiar sounds of New York City. She was glad that she could hear the sounds of the city even from way above the street in her parents penthouse. It was one of those things that was a rite of passage for New Yorkers, being serenaded to sleep by the sounds of traffic and sirens.

Not that as the daughter of the owner and CEO of a fortune five hundred company she had much in common with most of the other people in the city. The poorer people. As far as she was concerned she was as far above them as the penthouse was the street.

"Luxa, you'll be late for school today if you don't get out of bed," Luxa heard her mother holler from another room. Her mother could be the bane of her existence sometimes.

"I thought we'd decided that I didn't have to go to school today on account of it being my 16th birthday today," Luxa said as she walked into the kitchen to see her mother eating breakfast. Why couldn't her mother just cut her some slack.

"And I told you that if you spent the day at home with me that would be okay, but you just wanted to go hang out with Henry," Luxa's mother reminded her. Luxa decided not to respond to her mother except with an insistence that she needed to leave and quickly went out the door.

She walked into the elevator, ready to begin her descent to a place far beneath her. A land filled with common people. She was glad she had the space to herself this morning; she absolutely hated sharing personal space with anyone that she wouldn't consider family, and sometimes she hated sharing personal space with them, too.

As Luxa reached the ground level of the building she saw something that made her smile, her cousin in his yellow Audi R8. She ran out the door and straight into his vehicle.

"Well cousin, are you here to take me to school?" Luxa asked with a smirk knowing full well that she didn't have to worry about that being a possible outcome. Henry looked back at her and if he hadn't been wearing sunglasses Luxa could have sworn that she could see the mischief in his eyes.

"As it happens it seems that your father has called you in today," by the way he said the word father it was more than apparent that he had made the call. "What kind of best friend would I be if I didn't let you skip school on your sweet 16?"

The anticipation that Luxa was feeling was intense. Henry had been promising her for close to two years now that he would take her to some of his favorite haunts when she turned 16, and now that the day was finally here she was so excited for it. "Listen though Lux, I've got to stop at home to pick up a few things first, you okay with that?"

Luxa groaned, "But that sister of yours will spoil everything! I just know that she'll end up telling mom or dad." Luxa liked Nerissa, but the girl was a little awkward and sometimes she had trouble seeing why it wasn't a good idea to tell authority figures about things like a day of cutting class.

"Listen, I know that you haven't been Nerissa's biggest fan ever since she told your mom about when you stole the answers to that test and hid them at our place, but she's my sister, and I love her, so please, just try to get along." Henry said to Luxa, even taking his sunglasses off so that she could see the sincerity of the statement.

"Fine, but only if you step on it. I want to be able to play for most of the day."

"Fair enough."

When they finally arrived Henry avoided the issue of Nerissa seeing Luxa by having Luxa wait in the vehicle while he quickly ran inside to fetch the essentials for their day.

Luxa was just starting to think that school would have been a better alternative to sitting in a sports car all day long when she saw Henry heading toward the car. But he didn't seem to be carrying anything new, which made Luxa extremely confused.

"Henry, what the heck, did you just make me wait for twenty five minutes just for the heck of it?" Luxa asked as she raised her voice. Henry shrank back before he began.

"Luxa, I have a confession, I don't really have anywhere new to take you," Luxa closed her eyes, it was disappointing, but she could still enjoy a really fun day out with her cousin and best friend. "But I do have a way to make the old places more enjoyable," just as Luxa was wondering what he was talking about he pulled a tiny orange bottle out of his pocket. "I swiped these from my dad's medicine cabinet."

Luxa was slightly taken aback, she didn't think Henry was the type of person to use a prescription drug recreationally, but on the other hand, Henry had never led her away from a good time before, so she was willing to give him a little room to work with, so all she asked was, "What is it?"

"It's a pill my dad takes for depression, what a self-made billionaire has to be depressed about I don't know, but whatever. Point is, it makes you see stuff. And going to a club when you're on this stuff, is pretty amazing, so you in?" Henry explained to his younger cousin.

Luxa gave Henry the only answer she could fathom, "Of course."

The music was blaring and the bass was practically shaking the whole building as the people danced. Being in this environment while on a drug that alters brain chemistry was certainly a new experience for Luxa, and she was definitely enjoying it. That is until she started seeing the giant rats, bats and cockroaches.

She didn't mind when she started to see the boy though. He was cute, the type of guy that she could definitely see herself falling for. That is she didn't mind seeing him until he started talking to her.

He knew her name, which she guessed shouldn't have surprised her because he was a hallucination, but for some reason he seemed real, less like a hallucination, and more like a memory.

"Luxa, you don't have much time, none of this is real. Listen you're still-" Henry walked through the vision and made it dissipate.

"You look kind of pale Lux, are you okay?" Henry asked as he sat down next to her. Luxa took a moment to decide whether or not to tell him what she had seen, and decided it would put her mind at ease to hear the types of things he was seeing.

"I'll be okay, I'm just seeing a lot of weird things."

"Yeah, like the splotches of light, and streaks of color. It makes you feel like your kind of floating."

Luxa blinked. Henry hadn't described seeing people or giant animals, or anything of that kind. "You mean you're not seeing people, or, um, anything else?"

Luxa saw the concern flash on Henry's face and suddenly wished she hadn't told him at all. "Luxa, I don't know how to tell you this, but these pills don't cause those types of hallucinations, so you know what, I'm going to take you home."

"That's probably a good idea Henry, I'll sleep it off and see how I feel in the morning."

Luxa wasn't used to having these types of dreams. She was holding a sword, riding on a giant bat. She wasn't scared at all. Even though she was in the middle of a battle against a bunch of giant rats, she didn't even feel slightly nervous. And then she saw him, the boy from the club. She urged the bat to fly toward him.

When he saw her he smiled at her, "Luxa, I'm glad to see you again. Listen you don't have much time. You need to wake up. Do you understand? You're home is in danger. You NEED to wake up."

"I don't understand. What am I in danger from? Who is going to hurt me? Who are you?"

The boy just smiled. "My name is Gregor, and all that matters is that you need to wake up."
