Chapter Seventeen
Overcome
White. Everything seemed to be masked in a constant hard white haze, but absent warmth or some soft mellow sense of tranquility. It was confusing at first. Wasn't dying suppose to be peaceful? Serene? At least partially? Cleary the rumors and hushed whispers of such an experience were bold face lies.
Either that, or this wasn't paradise the motionless figure laying heavily had wondered about. But something else entirely.
It was bright and unrelentingly so, but there was nothing but aching pain to fill his every sense.
Agonizingly slowly Kouga's forced his slightly swollen eyes to part. Staring ahead to the gleaming light buzzing overhead. Met by the sight of two hard turquoise colored eyes staring back at him unsympathetically.
"Welcome back." Shippo said with a coy smile.
Kouga blinked tilting his throbbing head to the side ever so slowly. Only one question coming to his fragmented train of thought.
"Is this hell?" He whispered.
"If you're here. Must be." The kitsune responded sarcastically while leaning back to stand straight along side the wolf demons unknown bed side.
Kouga growled through bared fangs as he tried to adjust his flatten out position. Lifting up only partially to be welcomed by the almost unbearable amount of stinging pain radiating its way through his torso.
Maybe this wasn't hell. But it damn sure felt like it. His body ached from every seen and unseen part of his barely conscious form. It was sore, it was swollen it stung with the bitter feeling of freshly charred skin. All stuffed underneath a mountain of bandages that were a little to tightly coiled to be comfortable.
"Take it easy. You'll re-open everything." Shippo warned watching as the wolf demon struggled to a half way sitting position. Aided by the pillows wedged at his back.
It had taken hours upon hours for the surgeons to stitch the mongrel back together. It would be a shame if he let all that hard work go down the drain.
"Where am I?" Kouga growled lowly, eyeing his horrifyingly brilliantly white surroundings. Obviously, this wasn't hell. There was no flames, and all the stories talked about flames.
Though that didn't necessary cancel out the fact his body ached with the after pain of bring partially broiled alive.
"Hospital." Shippo stated flatly. Taking a glance at the room he had been occupying for the last several days. It was a plain, comfortable room, but then again most ICU confines were.
"What happened?" Kouga asked hoarsely as he laid back against his all to tempting pillows. How was it possible everything hurt so god damn much? He hurt from the inside out, and back in again. It was agonizing, by far the worst pain he could ever remember enduring.
And that fact alone clouded his every thought.
"You died." Shippo replied uncaring leaning against the opposing wall at the wolf demons side folding his arms across his harden chest.
Kouga eyed the lax kitsune with surprise. Had he just heard him right?
"For a few minutes at least," Shippo shrugged.
Kouga blinked. So he hadn't misheard him. He had died? But wasn't that suppose to be a permanent condition? Then how the hell was he sitting here?
"They managed to get your heart beating again though." Shippo explained gauging the wolf obvious confusion at the entire scenario he had fallen into.
"They?" Kouga repeated. Who the hell was 'they'?
"Don't really know. Friends, of a mutual acquaintance." The turquoise eyed kitsune hinted, thinking back to the vast amount of strings a certain silver haired dog demon had pulled to ensure the wolfs survival.
It was shocking as it was unbelievable.
That he would have gone to such great lengths to help revive and obvious thorn in the both of their sides.
"Not all that surprising though. You're way to damn stubborn to stay dead." He added with a heavy sigh laying his head back against the harden wall he leaned against.
Kouga smirked to himself as he narrowed his azure eyes staring up to the dismal ceiling he had foolishly thought was his eternal resting place.
"Don't give me to much credit. Sure as hell give it my best shot." He chuckled dryly.
Shippo felt a response build in his throat but before he could muster a word the lone door sealing the two of them inside burst wide open and both demons turned to the duo forms framing the doorway.
"Kouga!" Two incredibly relieved voiced chimed in perfect unison!
"You're awake!" Ginta shouted practically toppling over Hakkaku to get to the unprepared wolf demon sprawled out before them.
"We were so worried!" Hakkaku cried as he and Ginta finally managed to wrestle each other into Kouga's bed side. Their suffocating embrace quickly following causing Kouga to bolt upright from the uncomfortable amount of pressure that followed!
"Easy!" Kouga growled trying to inch away from their flailing arms and tear/snot covered faces.
"We thought you'd never wake up!" Ginta confessed thinking back to the seemingly endless hours they had paced the hallways and entire hospital floor in sheer panic of never facing their leader again!
"How long was I out?" Kouga asked finally managing to keep his still sobbing companions at bay.
"Three days!" Hakkaku cried wiping his runny nose on the back of his jacket sleeve as he and Ginta finally sat up but not daring to leave Kouga's now cramped bed.
"We thought you were in a coma!" Ginta added. Knowing the word had been thrown around a lot by the army of doctors that had tended the wolf demon over the past several days.
"If only," Kouga snorted. God knows he could've used the rest.
Shippo shook his head at the emotional display before him. He would never understand what made that damn wolf so special to the lives he intruded upon.
Either way, his conscience was clear and it was time for him to depart.
"Well seeing as it looks like your going to pull through. My job here is done." He said dryly as he stood up already a step or two towards the door before Kouga's voice followed.
"Why were you even here to begin with fox? Got a soft spot for me I didn't know about?" Kouga asked mockingly as he motioned his legs over the bed edge.
Wrapping a bandaged arm around his even more impossibly wrapped torso trying to keep the aching throb at bay as he did so.
"Hardly," Shippo snorted insulted by the mere notion.
But, that didn't mean he was above explaining his agenda. As forceful and unpleasant as it had been.
"I promised Kagome I would look in on you." He added lowly, his darken voice on the boarder of a whisper at he thought back to the absent priestess.
At the mere mention of the raven haired girl, his world shifted. Instantly his battered body meant nothing, absolutely nothing compared to the need to know of the well being connected to the hazel eyed woman.
"Where is she?! Is she okay?" Kouga questioned frantically as he forced himself to his feet. Ignoring the rippling tide of blood curdling pain that automatically followed in his wake.
"Easy!" Hakkaku warned grabbing at Kouga's slumped shoulder to steady his already shaking form.
Pulling out of his comrades worried hold Kouga stepped forward determination burning through him more now than ever before. Determination and something else sickening. Hard , pulsating, worry and dread.
Shippo turned to the surpassingly resilient wolf demon approaching him. An emotionless mask sealed over his youthful face.
"The kid! The baby? Is he alright!?" Kouga shouted.
Thinking back to his and Kagome's last goodbye. She had been in labor! Had they made it to the hospital? Were they okay? Healthy? Even alive!?
Shippo breathed deeply. His better judgment warned him not to speak further. But, what else harm could he do to the wolf demon he hadn't already done to himself?
Clearly, not much.
The dim glow of a thick ember illuminated the otherwise dark bed room confines. Smoke rising from the wine scented cigar that pressed between Sesshomaru's porcelain lips.
Amber eyes glowing forward through the plate glass incasing his elaborate hotel space. He eyed darkly the dim glow on the horizon from his lax postured stance. Looking past his own clear reflection in the flawless glass to the massive red cross hovering over the castle like structure in the distance.
His inhuman eyes capable of seeing the smallest of lights piercing from one of the largest rooms on the very top floor.
With a small almost never seen smirk he glanced to the dozen or so celebratory baskets he had received from various well wishers. Only the most extravagant gracing his tongue as he still held the blue ribbon that had once tied the freshly clipped smoke.
He breathed deeply savoring the exotic flavor. This was a habit not to be repeated the scent never sitting well with his sensitive nose. But, this was indeed a special occasion.
And one he intended to relish in a bit longer. That and eventually sort through the mass structure of blue coated baskets that shadowed his stern form.
Amazing to how the newest addition to his family could make the world seem less dismal. After all, he was no longer the last of his bloodline.
The mighty tree that was his ancestry might have faltered, but it had not vanished. Soon, he would see it restored completely. Though that would take aid, and much more time.
Plucking the still burning cigar from his lips Sesshomaru dapped the end into the crystal ashtray at his side until the embers burned out. The dying heat glowing in his amber eyes filling them with its brilliant glow.
The endless stretch of time meant nothing to him of course. In the end, he had all the patience in the world.
The buzzing hallway lights overhead seemed to roar in Kouga's pointed ears, or maybe that was the borderline unbearable pain rampaging its way through him making him think that.
Trying to steady his wobbling body he braced a strong hand on the nearest wall to his side. His shoulder quickly following as he breathed deeply beads of sweat staining his brow as he tried to regain himself.
Obviously the duo of protesting wolf demon he had left a floor or so behind were right to try and insist they arrange hospital approved transportation to take him to the floor Kagome was being kept on.
But he didn't have time for that, so easily enough he had trapped them behind a now bared closed set of doors on a lower level. If he listened carefully enough he could swear he could still hear them pounding against it.
But he couldn't care less. He didn't need them shadowing him.
Though he wasn't entirely sure he would be able to make it to Kagome's room in this condition. He could hardly see straight and he was about ninety nine percent positive he had re-opened something. Blood wasn't capable of being seen under his still tightly in place bandages, but the familiar scent could be bitterly smelled.
Taking a deep breath Kouga inched himself forward leaning against the hallway wall all the while as he did so. This wasn't necessarily how he wanted to face Kagome, but desperate times right?
For gods sake he wasn't even wearing real cloths. Just some cheap excuse for a gown he had managed to secure around his waist and nothing else.
Hell almost every inch of his torso was bound together with bandages, that was all the coverage he needed as far as he was concerned.
Forcing his legs to continue on he eyed the number the kitsune had spoken of in the distance. He was almost there. He was almost to her.
He didn't know exactly what was happening to him, but he was being taken over by the need to see her. He was irrational, he knew that. And he was most likely going to regret this in when he started really losing blood, but he couldn't stop.
He had to see her. He had too.
He wanted to hold her, to know she was alright. The fox had been so vague about the details of her situation. All he had said was the room she was being kept in. Basically nothing more. Then again he hadn't really given him the chance to discuss more. Shoving himself out of his own room the moment he discovered she was in the same hospital as him.
Eying that his sole purpose was in reach Kouga finally managed to regain enough strength to walk on his own accord. Reaching out to take hold of the door handle that acted as the last barrier between the two of them he clinked the silver handle downwards.
Shoving the thick door from its frame as he inched his way inside the dimly lit room.
An open balcony was the first thing that greeted his narrow azure vision in the distance. Silken sheets cascading gently from the slightly open glass door to slide across the oak flooring.
The silver light from the overhanging moon illuminating the stone overhanging and supplying the warm room with what little light it had.
But Kouga didn't need to be able to see. His demonic eyes glowing with almost a feline like hue as he stepped forward. Forcing himself to focus on the seemingly sole figure laying back turned on the massive bed centering the room.
He inched into the darken room letting the door seal closed behind him soundlessly as he trudged forward. His eyes never leaving the motionless figure breathing softly on the brilliantly white sheets and blankets.
Without breathing Kouga made his way towards her, not daring to replenish his aching lungs until he saw her soft face.
That was it. He finally let the events of all that had transpired between them crash down upon him like a tidal wave as he took a shaky intake of breath. His azure eyes losing all sense of fierceness to form two soft glistening orbs of pure blue.
Kagome laid there sleeping, her raven locks cascading around her beautiful face basked in the midnight moonlight. All the chaos he had witnessed her overcome washed away with barely a sign of its existence written on her perfect form. An almost transparent silken night gown hugging her slender form as she slept cradled against something small and not yet fully seen.
Leaning further over Kouga finally witnessed what Kagome's sleeping figure held so protectively. A small neatly tucked bundle of soft blankets cradled around an almost completely hidden form.
A small pink cheeked face the only thing peeking out from under the covers, soft olive skin and an ever so small patch of silver hair crowing his head.
It was the most fragile thing Kouga could ever remember seeing. But the mere sight broke down every single ounce of resolve he had managed to hold onto.
Surrendering to his basis need to be at her side Kouga eased his weight into the bed at Kagome's side trying not to disturb the two of them he cradled his chest to her back. Before draping a protective arm over her slender waist and taking her fingers which laid curled over her sons chest within his own.
He buried his hot face in the cool meeting of her neck and shoulder. Breathing in her sweet perfume like scent from her raven locks brushing under his nose as he began to tremble.
The real weight of what the two of them had overcome and lived to revel in this moment almost crushing him with the force of realization of what he had almost lost.
He breathed deeply his body beginning to shake with disbelief. He was so afraid, so afraid this was a dream. They he really had died and had fallen into some sort of haunting illusion. If that was the case, he would gladly never wake again.
Though one lone action proved this wasn't a dream or some sort of misleading vision. Softly he felt Kagome's fingers curl against his own squeezing tightly as her already tear hazed eyes drifted open.
Kagome's hazel orbs parted softly as she stared ahead to the looming moon just outside the glass pane before the three of them.
A lone tear streaming down her cheek as she breathed.
"Thank god." She whispered holding onto Kouga for dear life.
A grasp, Kouga all to willingly surrendered too.
Flickering at first the dim flame burned to life growing brighter and reaching out longer as it consumed the oil coated rope attached to the small candle two clawed hands cradled.
Shippo's inhumanly bright eyes smiling with warmth at the small offering he had managed to bring to partial life surging in his palms.
Gently he kneeled down shielding the burning candles flame from the soft wind humming through the overhanging tree. Leaning down until he rested the round wax base at the tree's scarred trunk.
Rising back up to stare whole heartedly at the still perfectly damaged bark that stood just outside Kagome's family shrine.
It was indeed a time for celebration, a bright new life coming into the world to bring full circle the one that had seemingly been snuffed out so quickly.
But Shippo felt as though this is where he belonged.
After all someone needed to congratulate Inuyasha on the birth of his son.
Kagome and the infant were still hospital bound and wouldn't be released for several more days. So, he felt as though the celebratory gesture belonged to him.
One of few remaining that the half demon had touched in such a strong emotional way.
Breathing deeply Shippo smiled a fang laced grin. He missed the amber eyed dog demon beyond the telling of words, but at least the void would now be partially full.
He had seen Kagome's son. There at her side only minutes after he had arrived into the world with cry ringing and face beat red.
His silver hair and olive skin a perfect mirror of the absent dog demon.
The kitsune could hardly wait for the babe to mature and fully reflect the image of his father. It would almost be like having the half demon back in some small way.
Folding his hands tightly Shippo bowed his head before the sacred tree. Being a demon he had never been very spiritual but he did believe in life after death and he knew with a certainty he could not explain. That wherever the half demon was, he was beaming with the knowledge that his son had been safely delivered and held a bright wonderful future before him.
In fact Shippo made a vow here and now. That he would do his absolute best to look after the silver haired child, him. And the magnificent woman who had triumphed all to bring him into this world.
Though, he was sure he would not be alone in that vow.
In fact he felt it the deepest part of his soul that someone else shared that exact same level of pure devotion.
Breathing deeply the wonderful natural perfume that seemed to waft off the soft tresses of silver hair underneath Kagome's nose she inhaled her sons sweet scent deeply. Almost as if wanting to memorize every trace of him entirely.
Rocking his tiny bundled form in her arms she nuzzled her cheek against him sweetly. It was incredible the feeling of love she held for someone she had only known a few days.
And yet without doing anything at all. He was her entire world.
"You seem pretty good at this sort of thing." Kouga chuckled lowly.
Kagome peered down at the wolf demon leaning arms folded at the end of her bed from his resting place in the sunken chair he had been occupying the last few days.
His azure eyes staring up at her while his chin rested on the meeting of his crossed arms.
"I think it comes naturally." Kagome smiled back. It was a feeling that felt almost impossible to explain. How there was nothing she would not do for the sleeping baby tucked safely in her arms.
Though unknowingly it was a feeling Kouga understood completely. He felt that exact same way towards the positively glowing priestess laying before him.
It had been a day or so since the two of them had reconnected and believe it or not conversation had been hard to come by. Kagome was still under the hospitals care having to go through numerous check ups by constant physicians as did the baby.
Not to mention the seemingly never ending pest that seemed to circle him for bandage checks. He would have happily ignored them were it not for Kagome's insistence on taking care of his wellbeing.
They should have considered themselves lucky just being able to get him into a change of cloths. That was one thing Kouga hadn't complained so much about though. Replacing his hospital gown with a simple navy t-shirt and jeans.
While Kagome sat draped in a white sleeping robe with hair braided neatly over her shoulder from her shower just a few hours ago while the nurses had come in to once again run some 'test' on the sleeping infant.
Actually this moment right now between the three of them was the first they seemed to share completely alone, besides when he had come to her bleeding and grateful to know she was even alive.
Sighing contently Kouga climbed from his chair to sit on the edge of Kagome's hospital bed. Leaning over timidly to peek at the soundlessly sleeping infant wrapped in her arms.
"He looks just like him." Kouga breathed eyeing the baby's patch of silver hair and tan skin. He looked like the mirror image of the absent half demon that had helped bring him into this world.
Kagome smiled softly stroking a loving finger on the baby's smooth cheek.
"I know he does." She whispered. Unable to help herself from thinking of what Inuyasha would think of their sons appearance were he here.
"At least he didn't get the stench." Kouga shrugged optimistically.
Kagome glared from beneath her darken lashes, her soften demeanor instantly shifting at the little dig the wolf demon had thrown her child's way.
"Kidding." He smirked with a wolfish grin.
"So what's the kids name?" Kouga asked eager to change the subject between them before the agitated priestess showed her son a side of herself he most likely would never want to see.
Kagome sighed tiredly. So it was true, she had become one of the over protective mothers she had always sworn she would never be. Unable to even take sarcasm or a clear joke in her sons direction.
She would have to work on that.
But for now, she would just bite her tongue.
"Yasha." She replied proudly. Turing her loving gaze back to the sleeping babe in her hold.
Kouga shook his head slightly in agreement.
"Suits him." He admitted.
Kagome peered at the silently sitting wolf demon at her feet. The both of them had been through so much in the last few days with little time to actually express their feelings.
Maybe right now would be a good time to do just that.
Yasha was sleeping after all, most likely he would remain so for the next few hours. It would be the perfect time for the two of them to clear the air.
"Kouga-" Kagome whispered about to suggest they do just that.
That was until the door leading into her hospital room practically kicked open with a thundering bang! Causing both of them to turn towards the two figures now framing the doorway.
A mass pile of glistening blue balloons and lit sparkling cake the first thing to be clearly seen out of the absurd amount of piled blue gifts and trinkets!
"Surprise!" Ginta and Hakkaku shouted ecstatically in perfect unions as they burst into Kagome's room party hats and paper horn cones pressed between their lips!
Kagome opened her mouth to speak not exactly sure of what she was about to say or do. But, her now fully awake child beat her too the punch whole heartedly as his amber eyes shot open and a deafening cry shortly followed!
Kouga eyed his two now motionless and partially shocked comrades with pure annoyance filled azure orbs.
"Idiots!" He growled.
Deeply familiar hazel eyes watched out the narrow square window mounted into the airplane cabin. Watching as the thick clouds began to dissipate into the endless blackness of sheer starlight and looming silver moonlight.
The journey back home seemed impossibly longer. Even more so from the recent series of telephone calls the slightly demur woman had received the last few days.
A tale most people wouldn't have believed until faced with hard evidence, but in her life she had experienced the unexplained main times.
And just like all those other incidents, her daughter had been at the center of the virtually impossible.
Though, this. This was something else entirely.
Oh how she wished she would be home sooner than this jet line could fly. There was so much she wanted to say, to see with her own eyes. To know all she had absorbed these last few trying days wasn't some sort of fairytale. That her daughter, her Kagome had really returned to her. To them, at long last.
It was everything she had ever hoped for, and far far more.
The very hospital room walls seemed to shake with the ferocity the unbelievably horrid sound the tiny set of lungs was currently unleashing.
For once Kouga actually cursed his heighten sense of hearing, feeling as though Yasha's piercing cry was on the verge of making his ear drums bleed.
How was it Kagome was managing to stay so damn calm?
Damn Ginta and Hakkaku! It was all their fault the boy hadn't stopped wailing! The moment those two knuckle heads had barged into Kagome's room with the intent of a celebration they had officially un-caged the small beast currently wriggling around beside Kagome's visibly exhausted form.
Even after Kouga had manhandled to duo out of the room a locked the door behind them to return the temporary bedroom to the silence it had once held, it had done absolutely nothing to help the cause.
Yasha was up, and apparently he wanted the whole wide world to know it!
Trying to hide his internal distress at the borderline painful cry Kouga paced by Kagome's bed restlessly. He wasn't entirely sure how much more of this he could take!
"Should I get the doctor? The nurses? Someone?" Kouga asked edgily never ceasing in his constant pacing.
Kagome shook her head tiredly while rubbing small circles onto the squirming infants blanket covered stomach. As helpful as she knew Kouga was trying to be, it wouldn't do any good.
Baby's cried. It's what they did and they did it well. It was just something she would have to get use to. Despite how utterly exhausted she really felt.
Kouga eyed the weary priestess laying next to her wriggling babe. She looked even more drained then he felt, not surprising really. He had only been in the room with Yasha for a day or two but Kagome, she had been alone at his side from the moment he had been born.
No one here besides him to fill the void or share the load the child was obvious capable of laying on.
"You look so tired." Kouga sighed concern clear in his level tone as he walked up to opposite side of the bed the humming priestess laid upon.
"I know." Kagome admitted between lullabies. She felt her exhaustion like an unshakable burden. Sleep had proven more and more difficult to achieve especially with such a restless baby constantly at her side.
"You need to rest." Kouga said lowly. No one could deal with this level of stress without some sort of slumber, it would no doubt drive someone crazy. Hell he wasn't even sleepy and already he felt as though he was losing his mind from the horrid inconsolable screaming!
"Its not about what I need anymore." Kagome replied softly as she stroked Yasha's cheek wiping away his small tears while stroking his silver tresses.
Kouga eyed the kicking infant with hard reluctance. What could he do to make this situation any better? He was at a total loss. This wasn't an enemy he could handle with brute force. Now that he could manage in a heartbeat despite his wounded condition. But, this. This was alien entirely.
No experience what so ever for him to draw upon. And he was sure it showed by the hard look of confusion written on his face.
He eyed the squirming baby in utter dread then back to Kagome who amazingly had her eyes shut and her breathing slowing.
Panic rose in Kouga and as he knew the priestess had fallen asleep, aided partially by the not so much screaming baby anymore. He was far from silent but his deafening cry had faded out to an annoying whine.
Kouga's jaw flexed and his body tensed. Kagome needed rest. He knew it, but what about the kid? What was he suppose to do if he started balling again?
As if on command Yasha's voice once again began to rise higher and higher in pitch and Kouga knew he was only one hard cry away from ripping Kagome out of the rest she had so narrowly managed to achieve.
"God help me." Kouga whispered as he forced himself forward not daring to think of the action he was about to commit. His calloused hands scooping under Yasha's head and body as he began to lift him from the bed and into his arms.
Beyond petrified Kouga nestled the baby into the bend of his elbow as he momentarily stood frozen in the deed he was now doing. He was actually holding, him. A baby. A defenseless, horribly fragile baby.
Swallowing hard Kouga peered down to the small face now staring back up at him. Big tear filled amber eyes fixed solely onto him as Yasha's lingering cry began to die down into a series of small sniffles.
"Huh, you're not so scary?" Kouga whispered down at the frowning babe beginning to wriggle in his arms.
Instantly his heart skipped a beat in his chest.
"Alright. Maybe you are." He confessed whole heartedly as he gently began to step around Kagome's bed towards a more open area.
"Bare with me kid? I'm new at this." Kouga admitted as he inched towards the balcony. Stepping over the glass threshold onto the cool marble flooring. Softly he extended a hand backwards to seal the sliding door closed behind him as he made his way over towards a not so far rocking chair.
Almost fearful that the slightest action might cause the infant in his arms to once again explode with a demonic screech he practically slid himself into the cushioned chair. Making damn sure to support Yasha's weight evenly no matter how he moved.
Then after what seemed like an eternity of maneuvering he held the curled boy to his chest. His bright inhuman eyes peering up at him from the bundle of blankets he still remained cocooned into.
Now that he was here away from Kagome and allowing her the rest she obviously needed Kouga suddenly felt at loss of what to do next? He had stopped crying that was a good thing right? But, what if he started again? What if he had to wake Kagome up? What if-
All to quickly every panic filled thought vanished as soon as his mind could create them with one small gesture.
Yasha extended his small hand outwards taking hold of Kouga's index finger and squeezing tightly.
Kouga froze at the touch staring down at the almost smiling ball of silver hair and blankets with azure eyes as wide as plates.
"N-Nice to meet you too kid." Kouga blinked shaking his finger in Yasha's grip softly in response.
"I guess your mom told you about me?" He asked as he slowly began to rock his weight in the soothing chair.
Yasha stared up at the new face with curiosity.
"No?" He asked timidly.
"Alright. I'm Kouga. A- A friend of your mom's." Kouga began hesitantly. Not really sure what he and Kagome's relationship fell under at this point.
"And your dads." Kouga admitted unable to pull his mind away from how unrealistically identical the infant in his arms looked like his absent father.
"Well less of your dads." He admitted reluctantly as he leaned further back in the swaying chair the two of them shared.
"I could tell you some stories about that guy. But, I might have to wait till you're a little older." He smirked sarcastically.
"You look a lot like him. You're probably gonna hear that a lot." Kouga hinted glancing at the silver locks crowing Yasha's head.
"'Specially the hair." He added.
Kouga eyed the now soundless baby staring up at him quietly. Was this all it took to calm the little tyke down? Conversation? If that was the case he could handle that no problem. After all, he was fairly certain no matter what he said. His secrets would be kept safe.
"Can you keep a secret?" He asked down at the blinking bundle.
"It's not often, and not even a hell of a lot. But, sometimes…I really do miss that mutt." Kouga whispered gauging the silent babies reaction to such an untold confession.
"No offense." He added with a fangy smirk.
A gesture Yasha instantly returned with a gummy grin of his own.
Kouga chuckled to himself.
Obviously, there had been none taken.
Soft fingers slid across the empty bed seeking the small warm bundle that had otherwise always been firmly at the now waking figures side.
But the moment only cool sheets were felt hazel eyes parted with worry and rising dread. Kagome sat up in her obviously otherwise empty bed with unknowing.
Yasha no where to be seen, nor the wolf demon that had otherwise remained inseparable at her side. Quickly Kagome scooted out of the vast bed to stand directly up her eyes scanning the darken confines of her hospital room.
This didn't make any sense. Surely if the staff had come to collect Yasha for anything they would have woken her. Or the very least Kouga would have told her of his departure for what ever reason.
Almost allowing herself to be taken over by sheer panic she turned to the one area she hadn't bother to check. The moment her now alert hazel eyes peering through the stainless glass all her fears set aside in an instant.
Replaced with the hard pulsation of disbelief at what she was currently staring at.
Soundlessly she approached the balcony entrance opening the sliding door before tip toeing over the threshold to stand over the two slumbering forms unaware of her presence.
Kouga laid legs propped up on the rocking chairs retractable stool while both arms coiled protectively over Yasha's peacefully resting form laid across Kouga's broad chest.
Kagome breathed deeply watching as the two people she held dearest slept in each others arms basked in the light of the not yet risen sun.
A warm smile spreading over her pink lips and her hazel orbs softening into the threat of sheer joyful tears.
After all the worry, the heartache, the absolute pain she had put herself through fearing that Kouga would keep to his words and want nothing to do with Yasha. To see something as minuscule as this.
It put her entire world right.
She was Yasha's mother above all else, she had to be the structure and the guidance he would always need.
But, Kouga. He had proven with just this one small action to be something just as important in Yasha's young life.
His very first friend.
Again next update should be coming up soon. I really cant wait guys! We are getting really really close to the end here! And…you know. Secrets finally coming to the light! Dun! Dun! Dun!
