Turn My Nightmares Into Dreams
Epilogue
Oh how the open wind of the reserve was so different from the smell of the city. It was pine scented and crisp, like stepping through a portal back to the feudal era in some ways.
A thought that made the sauntering priestess smile to herself as she eyed the vast hill span and seemingly never ending forest just on the horizon.
It was so peaceful. A rarity that seldom happened upon her household.
Her bright hazel eyes scanning ahead until the ultimately fixed on the trio of slowly approaching figure's emerging from the towering trees and greenery with much anticipation and love.
"Mom!" A raven haired boy shouted running forward with alarming speed until his smaller frame came crashing into Kagome's with such force she had to take a steadying step back just to keep herself from tumbling over.
Kagome giggled lightly at the gesture running a loving hand through her son's cropped hair. His bright azure eyes staring up at her with longing and excitement.
"How'd the trip go?" Kagome smiled lovingly down at the pointed eared child plucking a stray piece of grass from his messed locks.
"Lame. Yasha, kept slowing me down!" Kome whined up at his mother agitatedly.
"Says the one who kept spooking the game." Kouga called forward just now coming over the hill top, a second equally as grown child weighted on his shoulders.
"He's just jealous cause I actually caught something!" Yasha chimed from his perch upon Kouga's neck. His bright amber eyes staring agitatedly at his brother still harbored by their mothers side.
"Well, as long as you two had fun?" Kagome laughed nervously.
These weekend long hunting trips were suppose to bond the boys, but every time they seemed to come back home with just more animosity towards one another.
Then again, they were brothers, demon brothers, sharing an uncanny relationship between what once had been shared between their fathers.
"Come on dad! Tell the truth? I'm the better hunter!" Kome insisted marching up towards his father but sharp blue eyes fixed on his shielded older brother.
"What? I so had you beat! Right dad!?" Yasha demanded leaning forward so his amber orbs beamed down at the solemnly staring wolf demon.
Kouga sighed heavily. This trip had been a particularly long one, and honestly he was exhausted.
"How about you two wrestle things out? And leave me and your mother out of it." He suggested lifting Yasha from his shoulders only for the silver haired quarter demon to launch at his brother mid air.
Instantly the two of them tangling into a ball of fist and fangs as they began rolling down the hill side.
Kagome watched her sons tussle out of sight as she steadily walked to occupy the space at Kouga's side. Leaning a soft shoulder into his chest with an equal sigh.
"Look at the bright side. The school year is right around the corner?" Kagome offered optimistically staring up to her drained husband with a loving smile.
"Oh. There is a god." Kouga breathed ecstatically.
These summers seemed to grow longer and longer each time the semesters ended. Then again how could it not when his kids wouldn't stop growing?
Kagome leaned upwards onto her tip toes kissing Kouga's scarred cheek sweetly. Usually through out the week the roles were reversed with her dealing with the boys while he worked sight to sight.
But every weekend, for three solid years he had never wavered in taking off his weekends to spend time with each one of them.
Kouga peered down at the hazel eyed beauty to his side not nearly satiated with just a peck on the cheek after three solid days apart from his bride. Cupping her cheek tenderly he claimed her lips again, nipping her pouted bottom lip before coaxing her tongue into his mouth.
Kagome hummed in approval but reluctantly pulled away timidly when she felt his affection growing a little too determined.
"Not in front of the boys." She whispered with a smile.
"Is that a challenge?" Kouga smirked pulling her more tightly against him. He always loved it when she played hard to get. Made her all the more desirable, not that she wasn't enough as it was.
Kagome shook her head disapprovingly but her smile never left her lips, a notion that Kouga noticed as he once again reclaimed them in a kiss.
Kagome sighed. He was hopeless.
"Ah! Yasha no biting!" Kome shouted angrily.
"Then stop pulling my ears!" Yasha shot back.
Kouga groaned against Kagome's lips before pulling away.
"To be continued." He stated flatly kissing her forehead sweetly before trudging down the hill side where two rampaging demons still brawled.
"Alright you two! Truce. It's time to go home." Kouga growled prying the entwined balls of claws and fangs apart form one another.
Kagome stared at the trio with nothing but love. Who needed peaceful anyways?
The wine swirled in Kagome's glass as she poured herself a much deserved second dose. Her fingers tracing over the thick leather covered book tucked into her lap.
The midnight breeze ghosting through her long raven locks as she basked in the full moonlight hanging overhead. Out of the countless rooms in her and Kouga's newly constructed home, she loved the extended deck attached to her porch the most.
The wooden floor and railing, the soft sunken chairs and lounges proving one of her most relaxing spots.
Especially after a long day of feeding three ravenous demons, at long last the duo that were her sons had finally worked themselves into a stupor. Luckily having Kouga handy to carry the brazen pair to their beds for the night.
While she decided to tackle a task she honestly wished she had sooner.
Sorting out the family album was trying, but something she had been meaning to make time for some time. Now with wine in hand, sunken into the king sized mattress lounge and dozens of laminated photos laid out before her feet. She was ready to get to work.
The first was one of her favorites.
Kagome eyed the photo with a smile as she set her half full glass down at the small end table to her side.
It was Yasha's first birthday.
Running a loving finger of the corner of such a meaningful picture Kagome couldn't help but chuckle. She had never seen the Higurashi shrine so full.
At the center of the photo, Yasha gumming a mouthful of his cake with Kagome holding his icing covered hands in her own with a warm smile. Despite the vast amount of chaos happening in the background.
Ginta and Hakkaku woofing down their fourth helping cake as Kouga stood between them physically trying to tear the sweet away from them. Souta standing beside the messed trio gripping tightly onto grandpa's arm as he tired to throw a sutra in their direction.
Shippo and his family on the opposite side with Kagome's mother. Each one more messed with cake and icing than the other.
It seemed like only yesterday that day had flown by.
Placing the image down Kagome shifted to the next, another equally as cute moment. The trip to the beach, Yasha and Kagome in their swim suit as they both took turns unloading buckets of sand in attempt to bury Kouga.
Succeeding only up until his neck.
Kagome flipped to the next one, her smile even wider than before.
The third picture an impossibly more sweeter moment.
The image of the day Kouga had brought Yasha to the hospital to meet his baby brother. Kome swaddled tightly in his blankets as a barely mobile Yasha climbed over her lap timidly.
The next picture a rarity to say the least.
It had been Yasha's first day of school. Dressed in his school uniform a navy suit that only complimented the stern figure standing beside him.
Kagome scuffed silently. It wasn't too often she got a picture of Sesshomaru, but the silver haired demon had insisted on participating in the days events.
Kagome had considered it only fair seeing as it had been his pull that had insured Yasha a spot in such a prominent school.
A lot could be said about the dog demon, but he had kept true to his word. He had been a surprisingly good uncle to Yasha. No less intrusive, but still she had little to complain about.
The following image a bit more sincere.
It was Yasha and Kagome lighting a candle at the sacred tree, it had been her and the half demons anniversary after all.
The one pressed behind such a meaningful image just as dear.
It was Kome and Kouga visiting Ayame's garden. Kome insisted on bringing fresh flowers every single time he visited his younger sisters stone.
The last in the bunch had to be by far Kagome's favorite.
Coming home from a visit at the shrine to find the boys fast asleep on either side of Kouga's chest. The azure eyed wolf equally as unconscious, from all having gone into a coma after a buffet of junk food, soda and movies.
Even in the picture she could see the popcorn and candy scattered over their laps.
Kagome thumbed the picture lovingly.
She just couldn't believe how fast time had flied. One day she had been blessed with two almost infinite children only for them to shoot past her very eyes.
In three years no less.
Kouga had often warned her that growth spurts were unpredictable, along with countless other things when it came to demon children.
But Yasha and Kome had surprised her to no end.
Though Yasha was little over a year older than Kome the two were virtually the same size even with the age gap between them.
In only three years they should be both be little more than a toddler, but that had changed all to quickly seeing as they both now were at the same developmental state both physically and mentally of a seven and six year old.
Kagome sighed tiredly, just another thing she had grown use to over these past few years.
"Urgh." Kouga sighed as he threw himself at Kagome's feet, his sprawled figure startling Kagome at first but relaxing the moment she realized it was him.
"Remind me how I have the energy for this again?" The azure eyed wolf asked peering over to his sitting mate just above his head.
Kagome smiled lightly.
"Because you're the invincible leader of the eastern wolf demon tribe?" She offered optimistically.
Kouga chuckled to himself.
"Yeah? That sounds familiar." He stated earning him a brief kiss from Kagome before she leaned back against the lounge.
"So, what are you doing out here?" Kouga asked scooting to his wife's side kissing her shoulder sweetly as he eyed the messed book currently occupying her lap.
"Sorting through our album. I cant believe its been so long since I've looked through them all." Kagome admitted thumbing through another page.
"I can." Kouga muttered snaking a hand to the end table and Kagome glass of wine. Chugging the cold brew back in one hard swallow.
Kagome smiled at his lax demeanor.
Even if her boys wouldn't stop growing, she could at least rest easy knowing Kouga had remained the absolute same.
Loving, tender, brutish and thick headed as always.
It made her world the definition of the word perfect.
Leaning forward Kouga placed another kiss on Kagome's shoulder before trailing a few more up the side of her neck and to her ear.
Kagome giggled with the feeling of his hot breath on her soft skin as he pulled her to him.
"Now that the literal demons are asleep-" Kouga whispered nipping at the lobe of her ear teasingly.
"I think the two of us have earned some quality time as well." He offered maneuvering her beneath him in one inhuman motion.
"Kouga! Not out here!" Kagome protested with a small blush. It wouldn't be the first time Kouga had allowed his overzealous nature to get the better of him. But still, they were outside their home for anyone to see. When their bedroom remained only a few paces away!
"Sorry, but I'm done waiting. My patience is utterly spent till tomorrow." Kouga rasped tugging at the straps of her tank top until they were sliding down off her shoulders.
His lips following with every trace of where clothing began melting away.
Kagome giggled softly.
"Understood." She whispered kissing him lovingly as she surrendered to his hands, to his touch, and hard feel.
"I've missed you." Kouga promised as he finally tore his lips away to began descending to the valley of her cleavage.
Kagome lopped her arms around his neck holding the wolf demon on top of her for dear life. Years together and it still didn't feel like enough time to dedicate to this absolutely wonderful man.
Coaxing her left hand with his own he held it tightly feeling the clink of their golden rings as he interlaced their fingers.
His days may have been dedicated to the pair of slumbering children upstairs, but his nights were an entirely different story.
They were devoted to one woman and one woman alone, the goddess he called his own.
Kagome eyed the looming moon casting over them as she felt her clothing fade away only to be replaced by the searing heat of Kouga's body.
Clinging to him, cradling his calloused hand in her own.
It was moments like this that truly made her realize.
There wasn't enough blissful words in the world to describe the love you had for someone who connected with your very soul.
This type of devotion. It was euphoric, and it made every single moment in this world worth living.
Love and such! Till next time!
