Elijah Jenkins

It was my first full moon last night and I had no idea where I was now. The Cullen's had come to see me before the moon rose and helped me secure myself in the basement but I knew I was definitely not there now. I looked around at my surroundings, it was dark but I could tell there were other people here too. My eye sight had drastically improved since becoming a wolf. I saw at least three or four other people fast asleep, they were also naked. I stood up and my head span.

"Might wanna sit down," I heard someone say. I managed to find the voice was a girl, maybe 18 or 19. She was curled up hugging her knees to her chest.

"Sorry?" I asked.

"I haven't seen you before which means you're new. After the first time it's a bit disorienting."

I immediately felt dizzy and had the most mind splitting migraine if ever experienced. I fell to my knees and grabbed my head in pain.

"Closing your eyes helps the migraine," the girl said to me.

"What is going on?" I asked. "Where am I?"

"You're with others like you. We were all turned by Liana," the girl told me. The name sent fear through me.

"She found me," I managed to say.

"She always finds the new wolves."

"But I was protected. Someone was helping me."

"She always finds new wolves," the girl repeated. "Nothing can stop liana."

"What's your name?" I asked her.

"Samantha. You can call me Sam or Samy."

"Elijah," I said managing to finally open my eyes to see her. She had long dark hair, tanned skin and brown eyes. She was beautiful; if I wasn't so hung up on my best friend I might have actually liked her.

"So how old are you?" she asked me.

"16 you?"

"18," she answered.

"So what are we doing here? What does Liana want with us?"

"Not really sure, there are rumours amongst the wolves. I think she's using us. I've heard rumours of vampires around here. She wants to start a war," she explained.

"Why would she do that?" I said trying to keep my cool. If she brought up the names I didn't know if I could hide it, I was a terrible liar, not as bad as Clara but still.

"I don't know," she said sadly. Around us others were starting to wake up. Some were disorientated like I was; some were crying and screaming because they had no idea where they were. Others were like Sam and seemed to know what was going on.

"How long do we stay here?" I asked.

"She lets us out in about 10 minutes. She'll let you go back to your life until the next full moon. Some of us stay home and try and get away from it, others just come straight here because we know it's pointless to try and run away. She'll find you eventually," Sam explained to me.

The door opened a few minutes later, I wasn't sure what I expected, liana herself or someone that worked for her. It was a man, he was middle aged but had strange eyes, they were purple.

"Who's that?" I asked Sam.

"Cain," she answered and stood up. She was naked and I quickly averted my eyes.

"You'll get used to nudity," she laughed and went over to a wall where I noticed were many folded clothes.

"Yeah I guess," I mumbled and stood up to quickly grab some pants. She dressed and headed for the door. I chased after her as I pulled on a shirt.

"So where are we?" I asked her.

"Outskirts of Chicago," she answered. "I have to find my way back to Milwaukee now," she said with a shrug.

"Don't your parents wonder where you go?" I asked her. At least I lived nearby and I could tell my mom I went to Clara's.

"Nah, I tell them I'm going to stay at a friend's."

"What's going to happen to us?" I asked her as I watched everyone leave us and go off in different directions.

"I honestly don't know," she said sadly. "See you in a month," she said with a sad smile.

"Yeah see ya," I called after her. I was just about to head to the nearest road when someone grabbed my arm. I turned to see that man there, holding my arm. Cain.

"With me," he ordered he began dragging me back to the house we had come out of but someone stopped us.

"Cain," a woman called.

"Damn it," he muttered under his breath.

"Yes Lilim," he said and took me the opposite way, towards the woman.

"Elijah," the woman said studying me closely. Her voice was strange, it was something I'd expect from an old woman but this woman was no older than forty.

"Hello?" I asked.

"My name is Liana," she said and her hands went to my head. Everything immediately went black.

I don't know how long I was unconscious but I woke in my own bed. Light was pouring into my room and my head felt like it was spinning. I sat up and tried to assess my body. Things were different that for sure. I seemed to have developed more muscles on my chest and stomach, my hair was short too. I looked in the mirror and I was definitely going to have to explain things to my friends and family.

Looking into the mirror I tried to remember what I had done the previous night but I can't remember anything from seeing Edward leave my basement to waking up with Sam and all the other wolves. I do remember meeting Liana though and I didn't know if I was delusional but it also seemed that Cain was trying to save me, whoever he was. I dressed again into my own clothes and noticed how stiff I felt, my muscles were aching and I felt like I could sleep for a week but I knew I needed to see the Cullen's. I needed to tell them what happened. I managed to dodge my parents as I slipped out and ran the mile to the Cullen's. I was impressed with my stamina as I ran the entire way without breaking much of a sweat.

"Good morning Elijah," Esme greeted me as I entered the house.

"I need to talk to Carlisle, and Edward and Jasper and Matthew and Pancrazio," I said, Esme frowned at the last two names. She wondered why I wanted to talk to the Volturi. Some of the other Cullen's came into the hall, Edward and Carlisle included.

"Liana kidnapped me last night." I told them.

"What?" Carlisle asked.

"No she didn't. Esther was tracking you the entire night. She said you were safely in your house the entire time," Edward said with a frown.

"Well Liana must have done something to mess with her ability because I woke up miles out of Chicago." I answered.

"Oh god," Esme said and put her arm around my shoulder in comfort. I let her comfort me, even if she was cold, she had a soothing touch.

"So who's calling me a liar?" I heard Esther's voice as she descended the stairs.

"I met Liana today," I told her.

"What?" Edward asked. "You didn't mention that," he said and disappeared out the room.

"Calling Zio," Esther explained. Before I knew it I was surrounded by the important people of the Volturi and the entire Cullen family. I explained everything that happened and what Sam had told me. They sat in silence for a moment.

"Are you sure his name was Cain?" Esther asked.

"Yes," I nodded.

"Did he call Liana anything else? Other than Liana?" she asked.

"Lilim," I answered. Esther's head dropped in defeat.

"We're not going to win," she said to everyone.

"Excuse me?" Carlisle asked.

"Lilim and Cain?" Edward asked Esther.

"Yes. As far as I am aware they're the real deal. They've been around for as long as I have. I've only heard stories though. Never met them. They're immortal."

"Witches can't be immortal."

"These two can," Esther said.

"So the ultimate immortal powerful witch and warlock that are the spawn of Adam and eve and Lilith are after us?" Chantelle asked. "Great," she mumbled. Her husband took her hand in comfort.

"We'll find a way to beat them," Zio announced. "Thank you for the information Elijah."

"Hello?" I heard my best friends voice call into the house. I sighed internally. I missed my best friend but today was not the time to make up with her. The second she walked in I didn't know what came over me. I felt pain in my mouth and it felt like my teeth were growing in my head. My migraine was more painful than I've ever experienced and my legs moved involuntarily. I was moving towards Clara I tried to stop myself but it was only a second before I had hold of her and my teeth were in her neck. I heard screaming and shouting but I couldn't move.

I felt mind splitting pain in my head and I automatically detached from Clara and fell to the ground gripping my head. Arms restrained me in seconds and I knew the familiarity of the blonde hair meant Esther.

Sorry I had to do that but I couldn't let you hurt her. Esther's voice was in my head.

"The head pain was you?" I asked.

Yes.

"Clara," I gasped when I saw she was being held by Edward, Carlisle was examining her neck that was bleeding profusely.

"We need the twins," Carlisle announced. The life and death twins? Had I hurt her that bad?

"Clara I'm sorry I don't know what came over me," I gasped seeing my best friend so bloody. I noticed most of the vampires had left the room. Edward, Bella, Carlisle and Esther remained.

"She's put a spell on him. He did it entirely involuntarily," Esther explained.

"I know," Edward announced watching me carefully.

"Why would she do that?" I asked.

"Because she knows your connection to us. She knows who you are and she wanted you to kill Clara to get us angry."

"Why would she do that when Esther can stop me so easily?"

"It must have been to send a message," Carlisle said.

"Or she doesn't know what Esther can do," Bella said.

"But how does she know about me?" Clara gasped just as I heard the door go and saw Esther's daughters enter the room. They immediately looked to their mother who was still restraining me. She nodded once before they went over to Clara who was barely conscious now. I cringed at all the blood coming out of her. She was conscious again in moments as the girls worked on her and she soon gained colour back in her cheeks.

"Done," Lidiya announced.

"Let's go clean you up," Bella said softly to Clara and led her out of the room.

"She's right Edward." Esther said out loud.

"I know," he mumbled.

"Right about what?" I asked.

"How did Liana know about Clara? how did she know who you were to make sure you were bitten and then to kidnap you and spell you? she either knows everything about us and is holding back or someone's telling her."

"She doesn't know what you can do, I vote for the latter," Edward announced.

"I agree," Esther said, her grip still not loosening.

"What are you going to do about me?" I asked. "I don't want to hurt Clara again."

"Ill try and help you." Chantelle said coming into the room.

"How?" I asked.

"I can alter your mind. If you allow me. I might be able to reverse the spell, or counter it," she told me.

"Okay, if it stops me hurting Clara," I nodded. She smiled and her small hands rested on my cheeks.

I couldn't feel anything happening but Chantelle had a look of concentration on her face as she worked in my head.

"Let's test it," she said and nodded to Esther. She dropped her grasp but stayed at my side. Clara came down the stairs with Bella in fresh clothes I imagined were Bella's and I didn't move from the spot. I didn't feel the teeth growing again and I didn't move involuntarily.

"Well done Chanti," Edward said proudly.

"I want to try something," Esther said to me and made me face her, her hands went to my head and I felt something strange in my head, like she was in my mind.

"There," she whispered and suddenly I had memories flooding back to me all at once. It hit me like a train and I began to fall to the ground but Esther stopped me.

"I know what they're doing," I gasped as the memories flooded back.

"What's that?" Carlisle asked as the other vampires came back into the room.

My vision was blurry and I was barely conscious but I could hear the voices around me.

"They're children," I heard Cain shouting.

"They're Cullen's!"Liana shouted back.

"They're human Liana," he answered her.

"They're still Cullen's; they're still the spawn of them things. There is still too many of them."

"So we kill the older ones, not the children."

"They'll still breed and make more. There isn't balance Cain! There needs to be balance," she sounded like a mad woman.

"Lilim you're driving me insane, you asked to use my son for a project you didn't tell me it was to destroy the Cullen's."

"Your son has been very helpful in this; he has managed to tell me of a woman the Cullen's have. Esther. She's my target. If Esther is gone the Cullen's lose all of their power. She's too closely linked."

"So that's your plan? Remove Esther Josephson from the Cullen's and you'll be happy."

"Very much," she sounded like a spoilt brat.

"Fair enough but keep my son out of it."

"Your son will not be hurt Cain, you have my word. That child on the other hand, I can't promise anything."

That was the last thing I heard before slipping back into unconsciousness.

"So she's after me, that's nothing I can't handle," Esther shrugged.

"She's going to kill everyone she can before she gets to you," Edward said sadly. I could see the conflict in Esther's face as he said that and she suddenly went very quiet for the rest of the conversation. I kept looking over to Clara glad those urges I felt were gone and I could tell she desperately wanted to talk to me.

The Cullen's began discussing strategies and theories and Esther let go of her grip on me and sat down next to Edward. They were both very quiet so I wondered if they were having a conversation in their heads. I never thought they'd be close but apparently I was wrong.

I made a move to stand up and everyone's eyes fell on me.

"I'm fine. Its okay," I promised them as I went over to Clara. I didn't even have to ask her to talk to me. She stood up and took my hand, leading me out of the room and into what I could only guess was the music room. There was a grand piano in the centre. I was in awe of it as I walked over.

"Play for me," Clara smiled. I'd do anything for that smile. I sat down on the bench and began playing Pachelbel Canon in D. I had never played on an actual piano, they were extremely rare now. Everything was electronic. I had a keyboard at home and that cost half the mortgage. Pianos were millions a piece. It was amazing, every second was exhilarating and Clara was smiling at me the entire time.

"You're very good," I heard Edward say from the door.

"Thanks," I said under my breath.

"Sorry to intrude, I couldn't help it. I am somewhat the musician of the family, that's my piano that I've had for a very long time. I taught my children and children's children. I make it in my best interest to know who can play," Edward smiled at me.

"Oh I'm sorry," I said immediately standing from his piano.

"Oh no no, you can play. You're family," he smiled and looked at Clara quickly before leaving.

"I really like him," I said to her.

"Yeah me too, he reminds me of my dad a lot," she said softly. I moved over on the piano stool so she could sit down next to me.

"Yeah I know what you mean," I agreed with her. Her dad had died when we were eleven but I remembered him well.

"Sometimes when Edward hugs me or talks to me or just listens to what I have to say I feel like he's my dad and then I remember my real dad and I start to feel like I'm betraying him you know?" she asked me sadly.

"Clara, Edward is your grandfather; it's not betraying your real dad at all. It's learning to love your new family. You don't have a father figure and might not for a while, I'm sure Edward doesn't mind. In fact I bet he loves getting to know the wonderful girl that is his granddaughter" I said with a smile. She had a tear in her eye as I spoke and she smiled at me softly.

"If Zac has his way I think he'll be my new dad," she laughed.

"Zac as in our teacher?" I asked.

"Yeah he's been spending a lot of time with my mom, you'd know that if you weren't ignoring me for the past few weeks," she laughed. My smile dropped.

"Yeah I'm sorry about that," I said dropping my head. "I was just so overwhelmed and scared." I admitted to her.

"I know, but I wish you would have let me be there for you," she said sadly. My heart ached at her words. This was the girl I loved and I had pushed her away, granted she didn't know I loved her but I should have let her be there for me, in any way she wanted.

"I'm sorry," I said to her again and she leant over and rested her head on my shoulder. I wrapped my arm around her and we stayed like that for a few minutes before I heard doors closing and opening.

"I think the Volturi are leaving," she whispered.

"They scare me," I admitted, Clara laughed.

"They're just people, family even," she said.

"Yeah…. Family," I said liking the way the word sounded in association with these people. I never had a big family. Clara's family had always been my family, she had a dozen cousins and aunts and uncles and her thanksgivings and Christmases were always the best. Now her family had multiplied more than either of us could imagine.

Selfishly, I just hoped next full moon they could protect me.
