Edward Cullen

With the new revelation that Axton was working with Liana came new chaos around the Cullen family. I was adamant to be involved, I was the one that had been in Axton's mind, I had seen it and I also owed it to Clara to protect him from the wrath of Zio. So I volunteered to go and inform him about what had happened.

"He what?!" Zio shouted through the room when he first found out about Axton. "Bring him to me now," he declared.

"Zio," Chantelle tried to calm him with a sigh. She was always the less volatile of the two. She already saw reasoning behind why I hadn't brought him here. Whereas Zio was blinded by rage almost immediately.

"I want to speak to him myself," he declared as he paced around the room.

"Will you allow me to explain first before you ask him anymore questions? He's scared enough as it is," I explained.

"Very well," he said with a wave of his hand. This infuriated me, whilst Zio was an excellent leader and amazing at his job he was sometimes too into it. He forgot who he was at times and I knew Chantelle was brilliant at her job of reminding him who he was but I couldn't just stand here being talked to like a commoner talking to their overzealous king.

"Pancrazio Cullen do not speak to me like I am one of your subjects. I am your uncle and I raised you as my son from a child. I have come to you in respect and frankly because no one else dares to endure your wrath anymore. You are not Aro." I told him sternly. His face softened as I stared at him without breaking eye contact.

"You are right I am sorry," he said in defeat and sat down. Chantelle hovered by him, quite stunned from my outburst. I came over to them and sat next to my nephew.

"Zio I understand your job is stressful and we are all extremely grateful for what you do and how you do it. I am sorry for my outburst but often we are reminded that you were not born a Cullen and it frightens us when we see the man we hated so much in Aro come out in you. You are our blood now, you have been a Cullen far too long to lose that part of you. I am sure your wife reminds you often of who you are but in times like this I think you need us too."

"You're right. I do. I never wanted to be Aro. I just feel it in me especially when I'm angry," he said softly looking down at his feet like when he was a child and he was in trouble. I lifted my hand and placed it on his shoulder.

"I know that. Now will you allow me to explain the situation before you rip my granddaughters boyfriends head off please?" I asked. He nodded and looked up to smile at me.

"Liana has his sister. His twin sister is like him, an immortal witch and she is being held captive by Liana because she's volatile with her ability. She asked him to find out information about us and she would teach his sister control and then let her free. He got close to Clara to get close to us but he fell in love with her too. I've been in his mind, he let me in and I saw everything. He's a good kid Zio, who only wants to save his sister and be with the girl he loves. It sounds oddly like someone I know very well." I said and looked up to Matthew who had been watching the situation from the his throne in the centre of the room. He smiled slightly and took the hand of Lidiya at his side.

"He regrets it, he does but he's on our side now. We promised to save his sister because he knows things that might be helpful to us," I said and paused. "plus Esther has her mind set on saving the girl and well... you know we don't have a choice when Esther wants something. It's going to happen with or without us," I said with a shrug. He smiled and nodded.

"Okay. But can I speak with him?" he asked before quickly adding. "I promise not to torture or kill him," he laughed.

"Of course." I smiled at my nephew before standing up and leaving the Volturi courtroom to get Axton.

I brought him back with a nervous Clara. She hadn't left his side since they teleported to our back yard. She held his hand and I held hers as I led them to Zio. When I entered the room Zio was on his throne, so was Matthew and Ben. Lexi, Lidiya and Chantelle were standing next to their husbands silently. Zio stood when we approached the stage.

Edward I'm scared. I heard in Clara's head. I could see Axton was scared too.

"It's okay Clara," I whispered to my granddaughter and introduced Axton to my nephews.

"Axton, Edward has informed me of your situation and I understand you did what you had to do. I am grateful you didn't harm anyone in my family and that you have finally come clean to us. I do ask you though, is there any information you can give us to help defeat Liana?" Zio said calmly. He sat on the edge of the stage for a less intimidating conversation.

"Just that she has someone helping her, Cain," he began, Zio nodded in response. "He's just as powerful and I don't think either of them can be killed. Your best bet is to either show you're stronger than her so she backs off or you somehow make an agreement."

"Can I ask why she has targeted us?" Zio asked.

"She doesn't like how strong you are. That you rule the supernatural world and that witches have to answer to you."

"They don't though, we do not govern all supernatural's, only certain groups have come for help and in return we have made agreements but we would never force those agreements on those that did not take part in the original discussions."

"No but many view you as royalty, even witches and warlocks and other creatures. People love you so they abide by youN" he answered.

"so Liana is jealous?" Chantelle asked. "That is why she's after our family? Petty jealousy?"

"No it stems from the fact you killed someone, two actually, both she loved very much."

"Who?" Zio asked.

"Lucien," he answered and the name sent shivers down my spine. I couldn't bring myself to look at Matthew and Lidiya on their thrones. That name was forbidden in this place. He brought so much pain to our family.

"Explain," Zio said painfully.

"He was her son. He was turned into a vampire by Aro because he wanted to experiment with witches as vampires to see if they'd be stronger or have a certain ability. The second was long before Lucien. It started her hatred of you but the death of her favourite son Lucien tipped her over. You killed her older son Gareth a long time ago." It was my turn to interrupt. Axton hadn't told us about this.

"Gareth?" I asked trying to see the link between the tracker we killed when my grandchildren were babies to the murderous vampire who killed Matthew's daughter.

"Yes, he was a lot older than Lucien, he was changed by accident. He was in the Volturi too."

"I remember him," Zio says. "He had a fascination with me."

"He tried to take my grandchildren. She can't be angry that we disposed of him. No one touches my grandchildren," I told him.

"I know I don't blame you but Liana wants revenge and to do that she wanted to take your followers away but it was harder than she thought. She then tried to chase after the moon pool children, she thought if she killed them or convince them to follow her you'd have less power but it was too hard to get to them all, so she decided on going after the weakest part of your family instead. The human side."

"Clara," I whispered as I looked at my human granddaughter.

"Yes. She made me friend her, she made the wolves bite her friend and she made sure that I told Liana everything I found out. She wrote a list of those she needs to remove and it all starts with Esther. She removes her, you lose half your power. You lose her, her daughters, her grandchildren, Eddie and Chloe. You can't function without them, she's labelled them your most powerful members."

"And yet if she ever touched my mother I would kill her without a second thought. What makes her think that taking my mother wouldn't just make me angry?" Lidiya cut in.

"Because losing your daughter didn't. She thinks you're weak," he explained. I could see the anger flicker from Lidiya immediately.

"Let her think that. She'll be surprised when the Life and Death twins come storming in to save their mother," Zio said looking back at his daughter in law.

"I wouldn't if I was you," Axton said looking at Lidiya. "That's exactly what she wants. She has something. I'm not sure what but I heard her saying that if you ever do come after her she has something that will protect her from you both. I'm not sure what but she was pretty adamant it would work."

"So we're useless," Lidiya said with a sigh.

"Until we find out what she has against you yes." Zio said before turning back to Axton. "Thank you for this. You've helped us a great deal Axton."

"You're welcome." he said with a small smile. "Will you get my sister back?" he asked.

"We will do everything in our power to return her to you Axton. I promise."

We were about to go back when my daughter stepped down from the stage and walked over to me.

"Daddy," Lexi called as she reached me. I smiled at my daughter and turned to her.

"Alexandra?" Clara asked me. I nodded at my granddaughter before turning to Lexi.

"I have an idea," she said watching me carefully. I raised my eyebrows at her thoughts. "If I can get Axton to track one of them, I could get a message to the Nelifia. I know Chloe can't track them but maybe a powerful immortal warlock could."

I mulled it over but I knew how Lexi's original people felt about her it hadn't been that long in their years, maybe a decade if that.

"Cato will help us. I know he will." She added.

"It's too much of a risk Lexi, we can do this without them."

"It's just an option I thought I'd bring up," she mentioned, I nodded at her before kissing her forehead.

"If we need it we will do it, but I have hopes we can do this," my daughter nodded before walking back to her husband.

Clara looked up at me and raised her eyebrow I just smiled at her and led her out of the Volturi mansion.

"What was that about?" she asked me as we walked to the Cullen house.

"Lexi was suggesting we contact her birth family. Remember I told you Lexi was adopted?" I asked and she nodded. "She was a Nelifia, a mermaid. She was banished when she was 10 years old and Bella and I adopted her as our own. She hasn't had contact with her birth family since then but they possess a lot of power. They could possibly help us if their power works above sea level but it's a long shot."

"Mermaids? Wow," Clara mumbled just as we reached the Cullen house.

"Yeah mermaids," I responded as we entered the living room. I saw my wife sitting with Sophie and I smiled at the scene. Bella was telling her a story from when we lived on the island I bought for her, Sophie was loving every second.

"So what's going to happen?" Carlisle asked walking over to me.

"Zio has a lot of thinking to do. I'm sure he'll be over later telling us how he plans to go about this," I told him although I was sure Esther was going to do it her way whatever Zio said.

"Very well," Carlisle said although I could tell he was nervous, nervous about who Zio would chose as the best players for his game.

"He'll keep it in the Volturi the best he can," I reassured my father.

"I know son, but that includes our family too," he said as he walked back to his study where I was sure he'd be calling Pancrazio.

"Sophie wants us to take her to the festival," Bella said coming up behind me with Sophie on her hip.

"We'll have to ask her mother," I smiled at the child. Sophie wormed her way out of Bella's arms and ran out the room. I heard her enter the music room where Zac and Madeleine were.

"Please mommy," Sophie begged.

"She can't be any safer than with Bella, trust me," I heard Zac tell her.

"Yes if Edward and Bella are willing to take you, sure," I heard her answer. I entered the music room just as she said it.

"Of course we are," I smiled and Sophie ran up to me and hugged my waist for a moment before running off again.

"Come on let's go!" she called and I chuckled before turning away from the couple in the music room.

"Clara do you want to come?" I heard Bella asking. Clara looked at Axton for a minute.

"Go spend time with your family. I'm going to go and speak to Esther," he said and kissed her forehead. She turned to Bella.

"I guess that's a yes," Bella giggled as Sophie collided with her holding her coat out.

"Lets go," I announced and Bella followed me out with Sophie and Clara.

"How is Elijah?" Bella asked Clara as we climbed into my car.

"Dreading the next full moon," Clara answered honestly.

"We'll protect him this time. I promise," Bella answered with a smile in the mirror. Clara's smile wasn't as genuine. I knew she was worried, worried because her boyfriend and best friend were right in the middle of a mess between vampires and witches. I didn't blame her. I was worried too. We had faced various threats over the last century but I have never seen Zio or Carlisle so scared before or so unprepared. It's like Liana is a step ahead of us at all times, and I know rescuing Alena would be no easy task.

"Right," Bella said as we arrived at the festival. "I don't want any talk or thoughts of our appending... worries," she said carefully looking at Sophie and to Clara and me. "I want us to enjoy ourselves, just forget about it all okay?" she said eyeing me and Clara specifically.

"Right!" Sophie declared strongly even though she had been kept in the dark nearly this whole time she had no idea. I smiled down at her.

"I just want to go to the fair with my husband and granddaughters and have fun!" she smiled at the girls.

"Yay! Let's have fun grandma!" Sophie cheered immediately grabbing Bella's hand and trying to drag her into the lights and people. Bella chuckled and allowed little Sophie to pull her. I was sure Bella was elated hearing that come from Sophie's mouth. Neither Sophie or Clara referred to us as their grandparents but I had a feeling from now on Sophie would at least.

"She's a child she doesn't understand who you are," Clara said as we walked behind them. Bella was already buying ride tickets and Sophie some cotton candy.

"We are though." I said softly. "Your grandparents. I think she understands just fine. The innocence of a child is always accepting. We haven't come into your life to become your grandparents but we are here for you. In more ways than you can imagine. We would protect you with our life and not just because you're our descendants. You're family, I see the way you reacted seeing Aurora and Phoebe and you felt out of place because they're higher in the family tree but it doesn't mean we love them more and you less. You are my granddaughter no matter how many greats are in front of that title," I informed her. She smiled at me widely, her arms snaking around mine as she held my hand and rested her head on my bicep.

"Is it weird that I view you more as my father than grandfather?" She said and I could see in her mind she immediately regretted saying it. I kissed her forehead.

"I am whoever you need sweetheart and your dad wouldn't mind you thinking that at all, you know that right?" I asked her.

"I guess," she sighed and I watched as Sophie dragged Bella to the teacups, she climbed on the railing watching the cups spin round and round waiting for her turn.

"I think Bella is going to shout at us if we stay this serious," Clara laughed and unravelled her arm from mine. She kept hold of my hand though.

"No more thoughts of family trees and fathers. Let's have fun," I smiled at her as the ride stopped. Bella paid for us to all go on and we all climbed into a cup together.

"Right Edward, you are not allowed to spin us so fast the ride breaks like last time okay?" Bella eyes me warily. Clara laughed as I bowed my head. I rested my hands on the wheel in front of me, remembering not to use my full strength this time.

"What did he do?" Clara laughed.

"Last time we were at a festival like this we took our great grandchildren Ashton, Phoebe and Brooke. He broke the tea cups because he span it so fast. The kids are only human so they started vomiting from the force of the rotation and we had to go home and explain to their parents why their kids looked like ghosts." Bella told her, Clara just laughed harder and Sophie joined in.

The ride started and I made sure not to spin it too fast. I must have been spinning fast for a human though because everyone else was going so slow compared to us. Sophie loved it, she laughed the entire time we were on the ride and Clara was smiling too.

After the teacups we went on the cat and mouse ride, merry-go-round and played some of the games. I won Sophie a stuffed tiger and Clara a stuffed bear.

"Thanks bear," Clara laughed at me but hugged me too.

"Your turn now, I want the pink fluffy unicorn," I teased her.

"Oh I want the pink fluffy unicorn!" Sophie begged when she realised what I was looking at. Bella and I chuckled as we went over to the game where the unicorn was the reward.

By the end of the night, Clara had a bear, a bag of candy and a bottle of coca cola. Sophie had a tiger, a unicorn, more cotton candy, a bag of candy and a bottle of water. We thought it would be safe not to add any more sugar into her in the form of liquid. She was already bouncing up and down as we walked back. I had to carry the tiger as it was too big for little Sophie to carry with everything else she had. She refused to put down the unicorn though. She loved it. I walked ahead to hold Sophie's hand as we crossed the car lot but I could hear the girls talking behind us.

"Thank you," Clara said to Bella.

"For what sweetheart?" she asked.

"For this, it took my mind off everything so thanks," she said.

"You're very welcome," Bella said and I turned back to see them briefly side hug as they walked. Sophie and I reached the car and I buckled her in as the girls got in.

Driving back, I put on an old Disney playlist and the girls were singing at the top of their lungs.

"Glad you know what real Disney is girls," Bella said to them. Clara laughed.

"I think it's down to you. My mom had this really old mp3 player with them on, she told me she had it from her childhood and my grandmother had it from hers. I was obsessed with it when I was about 8 or 9. I'd play it constantly, it had nothing on from after 2015!" she laughed. Bella and I smiled. We had given Phoebe that mp3 player for her 10th birthday I was surprised it still worked.

By the time we were home Sophie was fast asleep. I lifted her out of her car seat and she curled into me as we carried her to the house.

"Hope my mom's in and not at yours," Clara said with a frown.

"We can stay with you if she isn't," Bella said as we reached the door. Clara unlocked it and we entered.

"Mom?" she called softly. Madeleine appeared from the living room. She smiled at the sleeping Sophie in my arms.

"You tired her out?" she laughed.

"Yes I'm afraid so," I smiled.

"Thank you. Saves me putting her to bed."

"Want me to put her in her bed?" I asked.

"Please if you would." she said as I eyed Zac at the living room door frame.

"Goodnight my darling," Madeleine said kissing Sophie's head, Sophie woke slightly and turned to see her mother.

"Night mommy, night Zaccy," she said softly before her eyes fluttered again.

"Goodnight princess," Zac called and I turned and took the steps two at a time smoothly to Sophie's room. I knew which one it was. It was bright pink, I knew Clara wouldn't be the pink kind of girl. I placed Sophie in her bed gently and pulled her shoes off and her tutu skirt before pulling the covers over her.

"Goodnight angel," I whispered and placed a kiss on her forehead before turning to walk out. Her little eyes fluttered open.

"Grandpa," she said sleepily.

"Yes angel," I said sitting on her bed and reaching out to stroke her hair.

"In the stories Clara said Renesmee's daddy sang to her every night. Can you sing to me?" she asked. I smiled, she was a smart little girl. No one had directly told her that we were the people in her stories but she knew we were different and she knew my children's names from the stories Bella told her. I continued to stroke her hair as I hummed the lullaby I wrote for Renesmee when she was a baby. Sophie was asleep in seconds, I stayed there for a little bit until I finished the song and stood up to leave. She curled into her unicorn as my weight left the bed and I turned to see Bella at the door. She was smiling at me.

"Don't," I whispered, her smile grew wider. "Don't say it," I laughed at my wife. I knew what she was going to say, she always got maternal and hormonal when she saw me with kids, especially those that were related to us.

"But..." she trailed off as I reached her. I wrapped my arms around her, stepping her out the door and slowly closing the bedroom door behind me, but leaving it open about an inch. I smiled wider at my wife and kissed her softly.

"We have enough," I chuckled against her lips.

"No we really don't. I never get tired of seeing that," she said longingly as she kissed me again. This time with more emotion.

"Get. A. Room. A hundred years later and I still don't wanna see that," Zac said from the top of the stairs. I pulled away from my wife to smile at my brother. He headed over to Sophie's room.

"I can put a baby to bed you know Zaccy," I teased him.

"Yeah I know, I'm not doubting your abilities Eddie, I'm just turning on her night light. The switch is kind of hidden I wasn't sure if you knew about it that's all, if she wakes in the night she'll cry if its not on," he said as he switched something on and I saw stars on the ceiling of Sophie's room light up. He turned back to us on the landing.

"Quite the father figure to her aren't you?" I asked him. He shrugged.

"She's sweet," he replied.

"And has a hot mom?" I asked him.

"Shhhh," he said punching me lightly on the arm. I chuckled and Bella smiled at him.

"I really like her," Zac says wistfully.

"I'm happy for you," I smiled as I wrapped my arm around my wife.

"She's human though," Bella whispered.

"I know. I'll cross that bridge when we get to it. She's still got about a five years to go before she catches up with me on age physically. If things are still good I'll bring up our options," Zac said with a little shrug.

"It's early on yet. Who knows," I said trying to lighten the subject and the three of us made our way down to the living room where Clara and Madeleine were, they were both laughing as Clara told her about our day. I smiled at the two of them, their relationship had been so strained since we got here, it was nice to see them so relaxed with each other.

Bella and I stayed for a few hours just talking with Madeleine and Clara. It was nice to hear stories from when she was little, as much to Clara's embarrassment but Madeleine loved it.

"You sound a lot like me," Bella told Clara. Clara liked the idea of that, she smiled at Bella before looking away.

"Bit of Renesmee in you too, Bella would have blushed and looked down at that," I smiled.

"But Renesmee wouldn't?" Madeleine asked.

"Are you kidding Nessie loves attention," Zac laughed.

"She's your best friend right?" Clara asked.

"Yes I've known her practically my whole life. We met when we were 10 years old," Zac told her. Clara smiled.

"I'd love to meet her."

"I'm sure one day you will. It's just safer not to have her here," I told Clara. Clara nodded.

"I understand that. I want to meet the others too, Eddie and Elizabeth," she smiled. Bella lit up at the names of our children.

"Eddie is in England, Elizabeth is Brazil but Elizabeth is travelling maybe she'll come say hi." Bella said.

"I'd like that," Clara said, lighting up at the idea.

"I think it's time for bed, daughter of mine don't you think?" Madeleine asked Clara. She sighed.

"I suppose."

"School tomorrow."

"Yeah I know," Clara said standing up. "Night everyone," she said and came over to hug me and Bella.

"Sweet dreams," I whispered to her. She laughed as she hugged me.

"Knowing my track record that's ironic," she said. I kissed her forehead.

"You'll be fine. I'll hear you if the nightmares come again," I told her and she smiled at me.

"Night bear," she said before hugging me one last time. I chuckled at her new name for me but also at the intensity of her affection, her words earlier at the festival surfacing again, Clara was only a child really. Barely 17 years old, she had gone too long without a father. I realised that maybe Zac should have been taking on that role but I understood why Clara had gravitated more towards me. I was her blood relation, I understood her, I had already stood up for her and protected her and she felt safe with that. If that's what she needed from me I would make sure I was there for her every second for the rest of her life.

"Goodnight Clara," I said before she turned to Bella.

"See you tomorrow," Bella said kissing her forehead and Clara nodded before waving to Zac and her mom and leaving the room.

"Oh I see, I don't get a hug goodnight then," Madeleine called to her daughter.

"You're always here, why do I need to hug you and Zac?" She asked them before making her way up the stairs. Madeleine rolled her eyes.

"I need to go too soon," she said mostly to Zac. He nodded before kissing her quickly.

"Go now. It's late," he said softly to her.

"Do you mind?" she asked.

"Not at all. I need to go hunt anyway," he said before standing up and kissing her again. Bella was looking at me with wide eyes. I just laughed and pulled her out of the room to give them privacy. They followed after a moment and Madeleine said goodnight to us. We said bye and left the house. I heard the automatic lock go before we walked off the porch and onto the streets. I eyed Axton's house and noticed there were no lights or movement from within.

"He's still at ours," Zac told me, "he doesn't want to go home in case Liana is waiting for him."

"What about his aunt?" Bella asked.

"She doesn't live there with him," I told her.

"What?" she asked.

"He was never living with his aunt. She lives in LA and she's not a vampire either, he said that as a cover," I told her.

"Oh damn," she mumbled.

"I'm going hunting want to come with?" Zac asked us.

"Sure I could eat," Bella said looking to me.

"Why not," I said to them. "I'll call the others if they want to meet us. Jasper is always up for hunting, helps him with Clara."

All of our siblings met us, Rose, Emmett, Alice and Jasper. It was nice actually. It was just us, like old times. We had gone through a few decades in the 70s before Bella and I moved to Isle Isabella where we stayed in Italy with our siblings. It was after Zac's wife died and he came to live with us. We went to an Italian high school, which was different to what we normally did and it was like old times again before any of us had any kids. We fell into the sibling relationships again like nothing had changed.

"Race you to the mountain lion," Emmett teased Zac.

"Oh yeah?" Zac asked getting ready to run.

"Oh come on like you stand a chance," I teased them and we all set off to the lion to the south.

I, of course, beat them both and had the thing half drained before they even got to me.

"Not fair Edward!" Zac moaned.

"You know it's my favourite. Oh alright I'll give you a head start on the bear to the east," I grinned at them. They took off in a second and I stood there counting in my head. I saw Bella standing at a tree by me grinning. Her eyes were sparkling gold. She must have just fed. I walked over to her, the euphoria of my recent kill running through my veins and kissed her strongly. She chuckled.

"What about that bear?" she asked.

"They can have it," I mumbled as I continued to kiss her feverishly. She giggled as she pulled away from me.

"Are you teasing me?" I asked her.

"I want that lion to the west."

"Oh yeah?" I asked her.

"Give me a head start," she said pleadingly.

"1...2...3..." I started and she took off running. I stopped counting immediately and started to chase her. I didn't go full speed, I stayed behind her as she ran just enjoying watching my immortal wife running in the forest. I caught up to her and grabbed her hand so we were running together. Her hair was behind her and she had a smile on her face and I knew, no matter what Liana threw at my family, I could get through it with Bella at my side.

Little shout out to a new author shes writing a story based on Eddie and Chloe and their kids! Its completely her creation and is not canon to my stories at all but its a fun read! Shes sort of reversed my story and had Eddie and Chloe have loads of kids instead of Renesmee and Jacob. Her author name is ilovetwilight999 and the story is called Mercedes Cullen.
