Smurfing the Spell

Stirring awake after she brushed against the cold glass of her prison, Vexy's vision blurred a hunched figure before her. The figure was quite far, making it hard to realize who it was. Noises arose from her throat as she clumsily pushed herself to awake.

She had been dreaming. Grouchy was home, he was smurfy, everything was going smurtastic... Oh, no... It was a tragic dream. She didn't know what happened, or how it happened, but Grouchy became upset. Sadness turned into anger, and and anger became unexpected depression.

He suddenly began dragging her by the arm, taking her forcefully away from the Smurf Village. She wanted to cry and ask a million times over what was bothering him, why was he being so different.

She wouldn't know, it was only a dream, and she had awoken before he could answer any questions. Beating inside her head began to pain her. Rubbing her temple, she switched to wipe her eyes in circles. Carefully, she squinted to the blurred figure to gather who it might be, but she was startled by piercing eyes staring straight at her.

Azrael purred in excitement. Vexy became startled again as the figure appeared behind the cat, "Vexy, my dear, you're finally awake,"

"Ga-Gargemel!"

"Don't be so rude, you say my name like I'm not the one who created you!"

"What's going on, how did I get here? ...Where's Grouchy..."

Her eyes softened with gloominess, and Gargemel frowned, "Are you not happy to see me? If you're more worried about that blasted smurf, I'll let you know he isn't here,"

"He isn't?" He must have escaped. She became hopeful, then felt a queasy motion inside her, "I just... I'm feeling—"

"You'll feel some kind of effect, but it'll wear off soon."

Vexy became confused, "What're you saying?"

Gargemel walked over to his boiling brew, "You've been inhaling the spell, dear. It's going to turn you back to the way I created you, before Papa ruined it,"

"I—I don't want to turn back! Get me out of here!" Beginning to pound at the glass, Azrael hissed as Gargemel stomped over, grabbing and shaking the glass.

She hit her head against the clear wall, "Stop that! You're speaking nonsense, you're sole purpose in life was to serve me and to destroy the smurfs, I'm doing you a favor!"

"...No," she forced herself upon her feet, "I don't want to serve you, I don't want to destroy the smurfs... They're my family,"

"You have no choice and not much you can do inside this tiny glass prison. Once you've turned, you'll follow through with my plans, and we'll finally be rich!"

A growl came from within her, "You can be selfish all you want, but I'll smurf out of here, I know Grouchy will tell them, and he is going to save me!"

"Grouchy tell them? Papa? If they come—if any of them set foot in here, I'll capture them all, and steal any smurfy energy they have left in them!"

"They're smarter than you, Grouchy is smarter than to walk into your traps! I'm not turning back!"

Gargemel's chuckle was dark, deep, and evil, "Grouchy, oh dear, he won't be saving you. You're in this mess because of him,"

"What...?"

"He came to me! Asking if I could get rid of you! And at the price of Papa, I agreed,"

Water swelled at the corner of her eyes, "No! You're lying!"

"You wish. You were making him feel things he's never felt before, and I was his last resort. After all, if I want every last bit of gold they can give, I need him to fully recover from the consequences of feeling happy,"

Now, her tears had fallen and her hope had diminished. Why, Grouchy... Why?
