Chapter 28

Kittie's POV

As the director had said, a couple of days later, Mr Flatley called us into his office. Oscar still wasn't happy about me going back to Barclay but he still didn't know that I would be going back there properly. I should have already been there but as I was going there anyway for the mission, everyone had agreed (well everyone who knew) that I should go back there after. I still hadn't said my goodbyes yet, not that I wanted to. We stood in front of Mr Flatley's desk and fortunately Mrs King wasn't there or I wouldn't have been able to cope.
"Oscar, Carrie, Rose, Kittie, I have here a letter inviting the 4 of you to the Barclay Academy to try out the sixthform. I wasn't aware that they even had a sixthform but obviously there must be. Are you all quite happy to try out for a week, starting Monday?"
We all nodded, although Oscar was reluctant. I glanced over at him, and wished he would be alright with this. I mean the guy has problems going to visit my old school, let alone me going back there.
"Very well then. Have a nice time. You may go back to class."
Carrie and Rose left quickly, not to go back to class but to do a bit more research. Oscar looked at me and shook his head. Maybe on some level he knew. So when Mr Flatley called "Kittie, wait a moment. I'd like to speak to you in private," Oscar just left.

Mr Flatley sat down at his desk and looked so serious that I thought for a moment that I had done something wrong. "I hear you're leaving us, when you go back to Barclay actually."
I nodded, unsure if it was rhetorical.
"I'm sorry to hear that. We'll be sorry to see you go." He looked like he genuinely meant it.
I fought back tears, knowing what he would ask me next.
"Have you told Oscar?" There was kindness in Mr Flatley's eyes when he asked, despite his solemn face.
I shook my head, willing myself not to cry. This was me. I didn't cry, I shouldn't cry.
I guess Mr Flatley picked up on my distress. "Alright. Well it's been lovely having you here Kittie. You can go back to class now."

I nodded and headed towards the door. This was stupid. I was fighting back tears for no reason. Well there was the fact that I hadn't told Oscar I was leaving and I knew he would be upset. I just didn't know how to tell him.
"Kittie," said Mr Flatley as my hand touched the door handle. I let go and turned around. "Did you know you were going to be here for half a term?"
I gave a small smile. "I had a feeling. My Uncle moved me to teach me a lesson."
"And what lesson would that be?" he asked, interested.
"That I'm an adult and everyone needs a change now and then."
"Right." I could tell he was confused.
"It's alright Mr Flatley. It's a family thing."
There was silence as he tried to ponder the slightly altered truth.
"Anyway, I better get back to class. Oscar will be wondering where I am, and I haven't told him yet."
"Yes, yes, off you go. Have fun at the Barclay Academy."
I left, hoping to get through the rest of today, this week, and the next. As much as I wanted to be back at Barclay with my friends, I liked being here and I liked being with Oscar lots. I really hoped things would change.

Finally Monday came around. I woke to my alarm clock beeping. Oscar's arm was draped over me and every time he breathed, his hair bounced. It was very cute. Smiling, I crept out of bed and jumped in the shower before he was awake properly. I was really excited. I couldn't wait to put on my old uniform. I had missed it. I had just finished getting changed when Oscar knocked on the bathroom door.
"Kittie, are you done?" he asked sleepily.
"Yep," I replied. "You can come in now."
He opened the door looking extremely cute with his hair in front of his eyes and in his plain white t-shirt and navy checked pj bottoms.
"Morning love," he said kissing my cheek.
Morning," I responded, waving my make-up brush at his face. He batted it away and I turned my attention to sorting out my hair. People never believed me when I said my hair was more trouble than it was worth. Fortunately there were enough products on the market to tame its wild side.

However it couldn't tame mine. Behind me I heard Oscar strip and turn on the shower. I may have snuck a glance as he stepped in and boy was he gorgeous.
"So what's Barclay like then? You've told us bits but not everything," he called above the noise of the running water.
"Well," I began, brushing my hair, "it's an old building so I'll be able to show you lots of secret passages that most people don't know about. I think you'll really like it."
"Of course I will," he said, turning off the shower. "You'll be there."
I heard him step out the shower and grab a towel. A minute or two later, he stood behind me, which I wasn't expecting. His arm snaked around my waist as he grinned. "Hadn't you better get dressed?" I asked, trying to ignore the fact he was only wearing a towel.
He kissed the top of my head and moved into my bedroom. "How are we getting to Barclay?"
"Joe's gonna drop us off seeing as he'll be dropping off Michael and Lexi."
"What about the little ones?" I assume he asked as he was dressing.
"Do you think I could ask your dad to sort them out?"
"I'm sure he'd love it. Anything to help and make me like him." There was a bitter edge in his voice.

I walked back into the bedroom. "If it's that big a deal, I'll just ask Johny to."
He smiled. "That's why I love you." He kissed me playfully, wrapping a few curls around his fingers.
"Oscar, stop. We need to get ready." As much as I liked it, now wasn't the time, and I couldn't help but noticing that playing with my hair was cafuné – a Portuguese act of intimacy.
"I thought this was getting ready," he replied, kissing my nose.
I waved my hands and pulled away. "As much as I love it, now isn't the time."
He looked at me frowning. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," I replied. "Come on, let's go see how much mess they've made in the kitchen. Michael was supposed to be supervising but I have a feeling he's not out of bed yet."
Oscar laughed. "You're probably right. Come on. Let's go sort them out but first…" He kissed me again, pulling me close and I leant in, enjoying it, my hands resting on his bare chest, exposed by his open shirt.

A knock at the door made us jump. We giggled, our foreheads touching, and I was reminded of the fact we were only 16.
Tom opened the door and came in, covered in cereal. Literally it was in his hair and caught in his clothes and judging from the fact some of it was soggy, someone had tipped their bowl of cereal and milk over him, most likely Sophie. Those two fought like cat and dog sometimes. "Kittie, can you come help please?"
I laughed. "Of course. We're just coming down." I frowned and smiled down at my little brother as I hissed "shirt, do your shirt up," to Oscar.
Tom smiled and began skipping down the stairs. Oscar having finished buttoning his shirt up, pulled me close and kissed me again. "Come on then love," he said with a smile.
I watched him go, a little light headed and my heart pounding. This was going to be an interesting week.

As we pulled up at Barclay, I watched Oscar's face. There was pure astonishment and wonder showing there, which was to be expected. Barclay looked amazing on the outside, not that it didn't on the inside too but the outside was truly jaw dropping. It was an old castle that had been turned into a school by a rich lord and lady who decided that was a better use for it. The old grey stones were covered in ivy and rose briars. Four towers rose above the battlements and the tiered roofing, one being the astrology tower with a large telescope on the top. It looked really picturesque and like it was out of a fairy tale well aside from the telescope. I grinned. I was glad to be back and I hadn't even set foot in the place yet. I climbed out of the black Landrover and smoothed down my blue and grey checked skirt. Grabbing my bag, I gave a small smile as I saw SJ and Elle standing at the main entrance. I was glad Elle was back. She'd been gone too long.
Oscar came next to me and held my hand. "Nervous?" he whispered, his eyes still on the building.
"Are you kidding?" I whispered back. "This place is like a second home to me. Are you nervous?"
"A little." He squeezed my hand tightly. "But I'll be fine 'cause you'll be there."
"Always," I said, reaching up and kissing his cheek. Hopefully that would calm him a little.

Slowly we walked up the driveway which was pressure censored and heavily embedded with explosives in case of an invasion – although the majority of the school didn't know that. Hand in hand, we walked between the stone pillars of the founders Elizabeth and Roderick Barclay. As we passed, I pointed this out to Oscar as well as the plaque at the feet of each statue that read 'Founded in 1801 by Lord and Lady Barclay Tempus fugit, sed si bene meminimus' which is the school motto – 'time flies but we remember' when it's not in Latin. Not many people knew the story behind it but I did. It was a spy thing and one of the main reasons why whilst the school itself was a normal school, spying was imbedded into it.

We walked up to the big wooden doors. Elle ran up and hugged me. "Kittie! Oh my gosh I've missed you." She let go and looked at Oscar. "You must be Oscar. I've heard a lot about you."
"You have?" he asked, startled. Last I'd told him, she was MIA still. He looked at me a little worriedly.
I smiled and so did Elle. "Don't worry. It's all good, well mostly. Word travels fast in the spy world, even if you're not in the country."
He looked at me, his eyebrows raised, and then at Elle. "So what's been said about me?"
"Well other than the fact you're drop dead gorgeous…" she said with a wink.
I could have throttled her but then I remembered she didn't like guys, although Oscar didn't know that. I probably should tell him at some point otherwise he might mistake her natural behaviour as flirting.
"You're a good spy who's had a hard life," she continued. "You've made Kittie happy and that's a good thing. You've stopped her self-harming and you look after her. Her family likes you as well as us. You seem like a good guy, even if you do have a bit of a temper."

He laughed. "Well that's good then. Glad people know I take care of her." He turned to me. "So this is where you were before St. Hopes. I have to say it's very impressive."
"Isn't it just," Elle replied, coming and standing next to me. Man, she was wearing some really cute shoes. I wonder where she got them from. "Shall we get going?" she asked, rocking on her heels.
"What do you mean 'get going'" he responded, a little confused. I don't blame him. Probably should have told him all that was happening, and that we weren't just working alone.
I smiled. "SJ and Elle are going to give us the grand tour, show us around a little."
"But can't you show me round? I thought that was the plan, our plan." He looked at me pleadingly and I almost wished I could show him around, just the two of us. Then I remembered Rose and Carrie.
"I would love to, but you're forgetting the other half of our team. Maybe I'll just show you around later." I smiled, thinking of all the passages and hideaways I could show him when we were alone.
"Oh yeah, Rose and Carrie. Where are they?" Oscar rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.
Elle looked at her watch. "They should be here any second. Lexi and Michael were going to meet them."
"Where did they go and why did Joe drop them off round the corner?" Oscar asked, confused again.
"I can assume you mean Michael and Lexi. They went to talk to Rick about a mission and then they were going to meet Rose and Carrie at the south gate. We don't normally come in this way, but I think Kittie was trying to show off," SJ retorted, her tone of voice a little snippy.

I glared at SJ. "Stop being rude." I dragged her to the side, leaving Oscar standing awkwardly with Elle whilst it looked like she was flirting with him. I would sort that out later with both of them. I seriously had to tell him though before he got any redder.
"What are you doing? Why are you being rude to my boyfriend?" I asked SJ, trying not to raise my voice.
"I don't know what you mean. I'm always like this to new people," she replied stubbornly.
"No you're not. And he's not new. You've met him before. What's wrong?"
"It's nothing." She turned away and kicked the ground.
I screamed internally. Why did she have to be so stubborn? "You want to play that game? Fine, just be nice, okay? He's my boyfriend now SJ and you should treat him with respect like you would anyone. You were fine with him before we got together, so why do you have a problem with him?"
"I don't have a problem with him. What I have a problem with is the fact you barely talk to me anymore."
Wait, what? Since when was I not talking to her because of Oscar? I admit I've not spoken to her as much recently but that's because I've been busy, not because I've been with my boyfriend. "I've been busy. I've had Christmas, family, Oscar, his family, paperwork, missions, sorting out coming here, finishing up at St Hopes, my new job, New Year, okay? I have had a huge amount going on. You have a lot to share me with. I have a lot of people who need my attention, including 4 little people who don't really know any better." Seriously, Charlie was a baby, Tom was 2, Sophie was only a couple of years older, and even though Cal was the oldest at 7, he still needed a lot of attention too.
"I know but it doesn't make it any easier. I still miss you and wish you would spend more time with me."

I blinked at her. "You really miss me that much?"
"I'm your best friend," she replied. "Even when I was halfway around the world, we would talk lots. Now it just seems like I'm a second choice."
"You're not." I grabbed my head, unsure how to explain it. "You're still one of my best friends. I just wanted to spend as much time with Oscar as much as I can before I left St Hopes. I do miss you, and although he currently lives with me, I haven't seen much of him. I've been busy doing other things. Okay, tomorrow evening, do you want to come over and watch a film? It'll be you and me, possibly Charlie as well." She nodded and I sighed with relief. "Alright then. Can we get back to what we're supposed to be doing?"

We walked back over to Oscar and Elle. Thankfully Oscar didn't seem too embarrassed by Elle's flirty nature. They were actually getting on really well which was good. It was nice seeing Oscar getting on with my friends. Elle looked up, laughing at something Oscar had said. "We ready to go?"
I nodded, biting my lip. Oscar looked at me quizzically. I smiled, not entirely meaning it. We wandered through the north passage, our footsteps echoing off the cold flagstones that we were walking upon. Despite Elle chatting away to him, Oscar came and walked next to me. I could tell he was worried about me and I wished I could tell him but it had been agreed that now wasn't the right time.

As we got closer to the south of the building, I could see Lexi standing with Rose and Carrie. A quick sweep of my head and I saw Michael standing by the pond with a couple of year 7s. I rolled my eyes but I wasn't going to interfere. If my brother was going to be stupid, it was his own fault. Rose and Carrie met us with smiles when we reached them. Lexi had his hands shoved in his pockets as per the norm.
"This place is amazing! The architecture alone is unbelievable. But how does a place like this goes unnoticed?" queried Rose.
I was a little unsure if I was supposed to answer but thankfully Elle's people skills were incredible.
"It's simple enough," she chatted cheerfully. "Lots of trees, tall buildings around, plus it helps if you stick a big private label on a building like this. Tends to keep people away."
Carrie smiled. "It would. So what's this place like?"

We walked along the corridors, Elle, Rose and Carrie chatting away. We passed classrooms, common rooms and headed up to the top where the dorms were for students who wanted to stay on site fully during term time like Elle did, well when she was in the country. With Oscar holding my hand, things felt normal. It felt like I was home again and I had Oscar by my side. Then I remembered why I was here. Soon I wouldn't be walking down the corridors with him.
On our way back down, we stopped outside what I initially thought was an empty classroom. Oscar looked at me but I had no clue what was going on.
"Kittie, hello. Long-time no see, and you brought some friends with you."
I blinked in surprise, and letting go of Oscar's hand, I stepped into the room. "Maybe it's about time I came back and gave this place some life again."
My old master chuckled and stood up off the desk he'd been sat on. "You always were good with answers, much like your brother."
"Which one?" I asked. I think I was trying to stall him while my friends recovered from the shock. This whole case just made me a little unsure if I could trust him.
"Jack, mostly. He was a good boy. We were sorry to see him go. What's he up to these days now he's no longer working for us?"
I stuck my hands in the pockets of my cardigan. If he didn't know Jack was in a different section, I wasn't going to tell him. "This and that. He likes to keep busy."
He chuckled. "Now I heard he's off working with another section, but doing what I don't know. It's all very hush hush." He shook his head. ""Are you going to introduce me to your friends? You're slipping Kitten."

I scowled. If he was a traitor like they said, then he had no right to call me that. "Oscar, Carrie, Rose, this is Hans Van Dhrest, spymaster extraordinaire and retired con artist. Legend has it, back in the day he was responsible for some of the biggest heists in the world."
Carrie gave a whistle of appreciation. I glared at her but Hans didn't seem that bothered at all.
He shrugged, a little embarrassed. "Credit where credit is due."
"Guys, why don't you go and see the rest of the school. I'd like to have a little catch up with my mentor." I didn't look at them but I could tell all of my friends were watching me worriedly.
"Kittie, I –" began Elle.
I cut her off holding up my hand. I turned to look at them. "Go, please."
Sympathetic looks came from them as they left. I noticed Oscar didn't move. He sat down on a table stubbornly.

"Oscar, please." I walked right up to him. I knew Hans hearing was going so if we were quiet he probably wouldn't hear. "I need to question him alone. He's more likely to open up to just me."
"I can't leave you alone with him, especially if it was him." He held my hands in his. "I can't lose you, not to him, not to anyone," he said brushing a few strands back from my face.
"You won't lose me. He won't hurt me Oscar."
"I can't take that chance."
I sighed. "Alright but will you please wait outside? I will yell if I need help." Oscar looked away stubbornly. I gently turned his head back to me using his chin. "Please? For me?"
Oscar took a deep breath and let it out slowly." "Alright. I'll give you 5 minutes before coming in."
"10."
"5."
"7." Judging from his face, he was considering. I had him, I knew it.
"Alright, 7, but no more."
I smiled and touched his nose playfully. "So after 7 minutes you'll come in here guns blazing to protect me?"
He grinned. "Something like that." He sighed and stood up. With one last look at me, he walked out the door, shutting it behind him.

I sat down on the table opposite him, unsure where to start. There was silence for a few moments between us.
"I take it this isn't a social visit," he said at last.
I shook my head. "I'm afraid not."
"I take it this is about Matisse's 'Snail'."
"How did you –" I smiled. "Your network. It's still going, isn't it?"
"Connections like that never get broken." He stared at me, sitting back on the table. "Do you really think I did it?"
"I don't know what to believe. I mean you have this incredible track record but it doesn't seem like something you'd do. Did you steal the painting?"
He nodded towards the door. "You two seem pretty close. He's very protective. Boyfriend?"
I scowled. "Just answer the question Hans." Was there a reason he didn't want to answer?
"You really think I would steal that contemporary modern tripe? Really Kittie, I didn't know you thought so low of me."
"So you didn't steal it?"
"Nope. The night in question I was at dinner with the inlaws and my wife."
"Do you know who could have taken it? And any reason they would want to blame you?" If it wasn't him, there had to be a reason, some enemy of his maybe.

He shook his head and stood up. "I've not heard anything, well at least anything related to this. If I hear anything you'll be the first to know."
As he stood up, I watched him stumble slightly and wince like he was in a huge amount of pain. "You really couldn't have done it, could you? Old injury gotten worse or new?" I don't remember seeing him limp before."Shattered knee cap a couple of months ago on a heist in Berlin. The doctors replaced it but they couldn't get all of the bone fragments out. Pain comes and goes. Caused me to fully retire."
I smiled. His retirement was something I had heard about. I still kept up to date on some things, and I doubted that most people knew the real reason why he had put his life of crime aside. "And here I am having heard you retired because the life wasn't challenging enough for you anymore." I walked over to the teacher's desk, picked up the cane that was beside it and brought it to him.
"In a way it was. My family became the bigger challenge so I retired and became just a teacher. It was a little hard to give it all up to be normal, but it was worth it."
I blinked. "You retired to be with your family? Wait, you have a family?" How did I not know this?
"Bet that didn't make it into the records. They probably don't want the good spies like you retiring so you can have a normal life, not worry about dying young. Wouldn't want to give you the hope that you can fall in love, get married, produce babies and grow old with someone. But that's what you want, isn't it with tall, blond and brooding outside."

I stared at him gobsmacked. "You… I… you figured all that out? How? I never even said he was my boyfriend."
"I know what being in love looks like. I was young myself once. I also saw that look in your mother."
"My – " I stopped and looked at him. "You knew my mother? But how?"
"Sarah Harper." He smiled to himself from the memory. "She was a fine girl. Of course I met her before I became a teacher. I'd just completed one of my latest heists – uh swapping back the crown jewels with the real ones when I first met her and your father. They were in the room next door and there was shouting but eventually the director or Julia as she was known then came out with both your parents. Your mother had just been accepted as part of MI9. She certainly looked the part; bruised and messy like she belonged in the field. The way she looked at your father though was pure adoration, love. If they'd noticed like I had, then you probably wouldn't be around today."
I was going to ask more when the classroom door flew open and Oscar charged in. He looked at the two of us, looked at the cane in Hans hand and stopped.
"Whoa there tenderfoot," said Hans, throwing up his free hand.
"What's going on?" Oscar asked, confused.
I smiled. "Well after I realised Hans couldn't have stolen the painting due to an injury, we began catching up." That's what we'd been doing until Oscar had come in.
"Right." Oscar looked at Hans warily. "So he's not a bad guy?" Man he was cute when he was protective.
"Nope. I don't need to be rescued or saved."
"Sure?"
I nodded. "Yup." The lunch bell echoed through classroom, startling Oscar slightly. I laughed. "That's lunch. Shall we go grab something to eat?"
He smiled his cute happy smile and I melted a little inside. I took his hand and we left the classroom. I was glad I was back here.

3rd POV

Kittie and Oscar walked down the bustling corridor flanked by Rose, Carrie, Elle, SJ, Michael and Lexi. All down the corridor, the students moved to the side, allowing the group to pass. Despite having been away for half a term, Kittie was still seen as a major point of authority in the school. A year 7 caught up in gazing in awe at them, was hastily dragged to the side by one of her friends. Mr Hartley stuck his head out of his office, noticing the similarity of the parting of the students in front of Kittie, to that of the red sea. With a smile, he retreated back into his office, knowing that with Kittie's return, order would be restored. Despite leaving her friends in charge, the year 7s had become almost anarchal. He gave a shudder at the memory and turned back to the pile of paperwork on his desk. A flurry of whispers went through the crowd as Kittie's return was spread faster than a forest fire. Many of the girls both older and younger were staring at Oscar in awe, wonder, and a few purely because of how gorgeous they thought he was.

The canteen doors were flung open. Kittie clenched her free fist but kept the smile on her face. Doors were not meant to be flung open, especially in her school. A tall blond youth, similar to Oscar, emerged from the canteen with a few year 10s and 11s pawing over him. He gave a laugh as he ended up sat on the floor with a girl next to him. Kittie stopped, the toe of her heels right up against his backside. The girl hurriedly scrambled to her feet and moved into the crowd with her friends, leaving the boy on his own. His laughter faded but he stayed on the floor.
"Get up." Kittie's voice was cold. One look at her and anyone could tell she was not amused.
Everyone around was silent, then the boy laughed again, causing worried looks to shoot through the crowds. "You must be the famous Kittie. Your reputation precedes you."
"Then you should know that I will move you myself if you do not move."
"Where are your manners Swan? Even I, a poor little orphan, has better manners than you."
Kittie flinched slightly and knelt down beside him. "Don't ever use that against anyone and you are not the only one here without parents Rider," she whispered menacingly before breaking into a smile. She straightened and offered her hand to him.

Oscar touched her shoulder. "What are you doing?"
"Well, for starters, despite having more authority than he does, there is a certain amount of etiquette." She sighed and faced him. "I also wish there was a better way to tell you this but I'm not going back to St. Hopes. I'll be staying here."
"You… But… How can you still be part of the team?" Oscar asked, disbelief on his face.
"I won't be. He's part of my team now, or at least he will be when we're done here."
"You're working with him?!" Oscar shook his head. "I can't handle this right now." He turned and ran back down the corridor.

Kittie watched him go, her confidence fading. Rider got to his feet and was met by a fist in his face. He staggered back, clutching his broken nose.
"What the hell was that for?" he spluttered through the blood that was pouring into his hands.
"You! I hadn't told him yet. You had to come along and ruin it all, acting like you own the place and making him jealous because I was nice to a complete stranger."
A girl ran up to him gingerly and handed him a tissue which he took gratefully. "You did it yourself sweetheart by offering me your hand. Seems your boyfriend didn't like that very much."

Kittie launched herself at him, tackling him to the ground. They struggled for a few moments before Kittie ended up on top of Rider's back, pinning his arms behind him with one hand, the other pulling tightly on his head. "Don't ever try to beat a girl with 4 older brothers."
Lexi pulled her off Rider and grabbed hold of her wrists. "Let him go. He's not worth it."
Kittie sighed and hung her head, deflated. "Get out, now."
He didn't need to be told twice. Rider scrambled to his feet and ran down the corridor, away from her. Kittie pushed away from her friends and disappeared into the crowd, heading towards her favourite passage. Michael watched her go, knowing this would be fun to sort out.

Lexi found Kittie curled up in a ball, crying softly to herself. He glanced around the room. It wasn't anywhere he'd been before which is why it had taken him a while to find her. He knelt down beside her, unsure what to do. He knew how happy Oscar made her, but he also knew how much she had cried because of him. Carefully, he wrapped an arm around her shoulders and waited to see what she would do. Outside, in the main body of the school, the school bell echoed, signalling the end of the day. Everyone would be leaving soon. Slowly Kittie pulled away from Lexi and wiped her eyes on her sleeves. Lexi held out a tissue with a smile.
"You really should get out of this habit. You're going to end up with constantly dirty sleeves, like Tom and his chewed t-shirts." Despite being only two, Tom had already picked up Cal's old habit of chewing when he was nervous, but unlike his older brother who chewed his finger nails, Tom chewed the closest thing to his mouth – the neck of his t-shirts. They'd had to bin a couple that were really bad.
"You know me well enough to know I won't change, at least not quickly, just like Tom." She laughed breathily. "Look at me, first day back here and I'm hiding in the passages again. Nothing's changed."

"Everything's changed," Lexi said, shifting closer to her, grabbing her arm to stop her moving away again. "You have a new boyfriend. You're now a carer for your siblings. You also single handily beat up one of MI6's best spies. You're stronger physically, mentally and emotionally. You're growing and learning."
"If I'm learning, how come I don't know what to do with Oscar? How come I keep making mistakes?" she asked angrily.
"Easy there wild cat. You knew not to overload him with new things and you knew enough to leave him alone right then. If you take my advice, I suggest you leave him alone to cool down for a bit, maybe a day, maybe a couple of days, just give him a chance to think about it. We both know he's got a hot temper, he just needs to cool down and think rationally. I don't believe he would dump you because you didn't tell him something. Just spend time with the kids and wait until he's ready to talk to you."
Kittie slumped down. "How do you know?" she mumbled.

Lexi smiled. "Contraire to popular belief, I have had experience in relationships. Plus I've been living with you for a couple of weeks and I know how he gets. I also know that the amount of time you've been spending together is unhealthy. You need to spend some time apart," he said, placing a hand in front of Kittie's mouth when she protested. "You've spent so much time together it's only natural that he wants to spend some time alone to think things through. You spend every waking minute of the day together; same classes, same routines, same team, heck I've even seen you sneaking to each other's rooms in the night. He just needs time by himself." Lexi flashed a wicked smile. "Right, I have a proposition for you. What say you to tracking down the rogue agents and having some fun with them?"
Kittie smiled and brushed the hair out of her eyes. "You really are evil sometimes."
Lexi got to his feet and shoved his hands in his pockets. "Well you know what they say, evil is as evil does."
Slowly Kittie got to her feet and linked her arm with his. The two of them left the hidden room and went to go and beat up some agents.
