Hermione sat down next to her best friend, noticing how he didn't even acknowledge her presence.
"Harry." She gave him a small, understanding smile.
He didn't give her an answer and she sighed, knowing this would take longer than five minutes to bring him back. She opened her mouth to speak, but he beat her to it. "It was my fault," He started, glancing at her once before continuing. "They're all dead because of me. If I hadn't-If I hadn't...then they would still be here, all of them. If I had just died like I was supposed to, then they wouldn't have wanted to save me, and they wouldn't have died." He paused for a moment, and Hermione spoke up.
"Harry, you think this is your fault? They loved you, don't get me wrong, and I'm sure they would die for you, but that's not the reason they lost their lives. Remus and Tonks died for Teddy, in order to create a better future for him. Fred died for his family, and because he wasn't a coward. Snape died for your mother, Dumbledore for the greater good. Colin Creevey, he died because he didn't want to stand and watch things happen. He was a kid with courage greater than he could handle. Don't, don't for one minute think they died for you. They died because they were fighting for what they believed in, and because they wanted to save their families." Harry shrugged, watching a few remaining teachers begin to clean up the piles of broken buildings.
"They shouldn't have died. I should have stopped it." Hermione pursed her lips, giving him a look. "Harry, no matter how hard you tried, you could have never stopped their deaths. For some reason, they were meant to die. They wouldn't want us to feel guilty, they'd want us to mourn them and then get over it. They'd want us to take care of their families and move on." Harry shook his head, clearing his throat. "I'm leaving, Hermione." Hermione gave him a startled look.
"What?" He sighed, playing with the grass under at his sides, leaning his head back against the trunk of the tree. "'Mione, I can't stay here. I can't. I can't look at the Weasleys, knowing that I could have stopped Fred's death. I can't stay here and attend funerals for people that shouldn't be dead in the first place. Maybe I'm being cowardly, but I don't care. I don't care anymore, Hermione. It takes too much emotion to care, and to be honest Hermione, I don't have that much emotion left. I can't cry, I can't laugh, and it's because they're all dead.
I just...I have to leave."
Hermione took in his words, considering them carefully. He wanted to leave because he couldn't look at people, and she wanted to leave because she couldn't stand to stay somewhere that brought tears to her eyes every time she took a breath.
"Okay," She said softly, looking into his bright green eyes. "But you're not going alone, I'm coming with you. Maybe it's time we leave here." He nodded looking relieved. "You don't have to," He said, hoping she wasn't just suggesting that because she felt she had to.
"Harry, I'm your best friend, your sister for all intents and purposes. We grew up together, and I'm not going to let you run away alone. I'm coming with you whether you like it or not." His lips turned up, and he gave her a half smile.
"Good."
Harry and Hermione had told Ron briefly where they were going, hoping he would understand. Unfortunately, this was Ron Weasley, and he took everything the wrong way.
"So, what, you're running away? Together? What, are you dating now or something? Are you even going to come to Fred's funeral? Do you even care about him at all? Hermione, I thought we had something, but I guess not." Hermione had rolled her eyes, knowing Ron would never be her lover. They were in the midst of a war, and maybe in another world, where she wasn't broken, then perhaps they could've been together, but not now, not after what had happened.
Harry scoffed, giving Ron a cold glare. "Ron, you're my best friend, so don't take this the wrong way. Hermione and I need to leave, we just can't stay here anymore, I'm sorry. Of course we cared about Fred, he was practically family. We just have to go, I'm sorry. We're leaving Teddy in Andromeda's care, but he can come and visit, or we'll visit him, I don't know yet. You're welcome too, you know. When we find a place, you're welcome anytime."
Ron shook his head, a frown on his face. "Whatever, I know the truth. I'm not stupid."
Hermione gave him a glare. "Ron, shut up. We loved Fred, and we love you, and we're not "running away together," we just need to leave. Please tell everyone that we love them. Goodbye, Ron." She shook her head, wishing he hadn't been so stubborn and big-headed.
"Yeah, bye Hermione, bye Harry." Ron scoffed once before walking out of Grimmauld Place, slamming the front door behind him.
"Cue the portrait of Walburga Black-"
"MUDBLOODS, FILTH, SCUM WITHIN THE NOBLE AND ANCIENT HOUSE OF-" Hermione and Harry exchanged looks, walking to screaming portrait and closing the curtain together.
They headed into the dining room where they could speak without being shouted at.
Memories flooded Hermione's mind as she recalled the dinners she spent here, and Sirius' bark of a laugh. She remembered Tonks and Remus, and their love story that defied age. She remembered her last conversation with Remus, back at Hogwarts, and the hug he gave her, a father to a daughter. He meant so much to her.
"Harry, do you want to say goodbye to Ginny?" Harry shook his head, sighing. "No, she'll understand. I love her, but I can't look at her." Hermione nodded and gave him a small smile.
"I'm going to pack the necessities, you find a flat real quick, will you? Make a few phone calls, find a place to live." Harry gave her an amused look. "What, you're not going to be your usual bossy self and pick someplace?" She sighed. "You're right, I'm choosing the place, why don't you go and pack, and don't diddle, we're leaving immediately after I found a place." He smirked, making his way towards the stairs. "And you better pack everything, I'm going to double check!" She gave him a look and he laughed, shaking his head. "Yes, Mum."
Hermione had ended up calling Luna, knowing she wouldn't say anything. To Hermione's surprise, Luna knew of a small town in America that Hermione and Harry could move to-it was where her mother had grown up. Luna's cousin, Jacob Black, lived there and Hermione could go to him if she had any trouble. Hermione thanked her, getting Luna's help on finding a place.
"Well, there's a nice flat here towards the edge of the town, it's quaint." Luna gave Hermione a kind smile, and Hermione nodded. "Thank you, Luna." Luna shrugged it off, saying it was no trouble.
"Hermione, I'm ready whenever you are," Harry came down the stairs, carrying a duffel bag and Hermione's small, beaded bag. "Oh, hello Luna." Luna gave him a smile and waved. "Hello, Harry. We're going to miss you, but I won't say anything." Harry smiled gratefully.
"Thank you, Luna. That means a lot. I hope you and Neville are doing well?" Luna nodded, her eyes lighting up at the thought of her boyfriend of three days. "Yes, he's so sweet, and I'm very happy." Harry gave her a smile, having always had a soft spot for the mad blonde. She was one of the few outsiders who actually believed him when Voldemort first came back, and she'd been there for him when no one else was.
"I'm glad, you both deserve to be happy." Luna gave him another smile before hugging Hermione. "I do hope you write sometimes, it'll be gloomy here without the Brightest Witch of Her Age and the Boy-Who-Lived." Harry gave her a hug as well, promising to visit.
"Well, I'm off. Neville and I are going on a picnic, which will be quite fun, I think. Goodbye!" Luna quickly apparated out of the house and the remaining two people were left in silence.
"You ready, 'Mione?" Hermione blew out a breath of air, nodding in response.
"Let's do this, Potter."
Alice Cullen dropped her fashion magazine, staring into the distance. "Alice? Alice, can you hear me? Alice, what do you see?" Her best friend, Jasper Hale asked her softly, grabbing her hands. "A boy...and a girl...brown..." She mumbled, blinking before looking into Jasper's eyes.
"Jasper, I saw them." Jasper gave her a confused look and Alice smiled.
"Jazz, I found our mates."
End, scene.
Okay, whew, that was fun.
I swear the chapters will get longer, don't worry. :)
Well, I'm off to write something else now, so bye everyone!
I love you all my lovely dovelies!
