Misguided Light

Chapter 7

"Why are we still moving towards it?" Luke cried out, watching the Death Star loom closer from the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon.

"We're caught in a tractor beam! It's pulling us in!" Han exclaimed.

"There's gotta be something you can do!" Luke reasoned, trying not to panic. Even as the words left his mouth, he knew there was nothing he could do. They were stuck.

"There's nothing I can do about it, kid. I'm in full power. I'm going to have to shut down. But they're not going to get me without a fight!" Han declared.

"You can't win," Obi-Wan told the pilot, "But there are alternatives to fighting."

oOoOo

A lone figure swiftly moved down a steel gray hallway. Her smooth brown hair was tied up under a gray hat that matched the rest of her Imperial uniform. The woman slowed as she approached a regular looking door. She pressed a button on the side and the door slid open.

"I apologize for the intrusion," Sabé said smoothly, "I just wanted to let you know that the cantina is handing out alcoholic beverages for free in honor of the Death Star becoming fully operational." The two men sitting in the surveillance room looked at her in surprise.

"Are you sure?" The younger of the two asked, looking at her suspiciously.

"Of course I'm sure," Sabé fibbed, "They are keeping it quiet because there isn't enough for everyone. I was told by the Head of Construction himself." The men seemed to buy that. Sabé didn't even know who the Head of Construction was.

"Wonderful!" Declared the older one, "I needed a break anyway."

"We can't just leave on our shift," The younger protested.

"Sure we can," He waved his hand towards Sabé, "She can watch the cameras for us while we grab a drink. Then we'll come back and she can go and have some fun."

"That sounds fair," Sabé agreed. She had heard rumors about the man's love of Corellian Ale, he would do anything to get out of work.

"See?!" The man told his partner, "Nothing happens here anyway. There are hundreds of other surveillance rooms on this hunk of metal. Nothing will happen if we stay, nothing will happen if we go!" The man was already out the door by the end of his sentence. The other Imperial looked at Sabé and sighed.

"We'll be right back. And don't tell anyone we left our post."

"Alright. I promise to watch over everything for you while you are gone."

The man nodded and slowly followed his coworker out the door. As soon as he was gone, Sabé slammed the door shut and slid into one of the seats. She had paid off some of the kitchen staff earlier that day. The men would get free drinks of a very strong substance. They wouldn't be coming back for a while.

She sighed as she glanced around the room. It was no bigger than a large closet. It had several screens that played footage from around the station. There were many of these rooms around the Death Star, just in case the main surveillance room was compromised.

Sabé began her search for Leia. Checking up on different prison cells would look less suspicious than looking for Leia specifically. It would take longer, but hopefully, it would be worth it.

With a couple taps, Sabé was watching the prison cells flash across the screen. Most of them were empty, but a couple held a few men who were no doubt traitors to the Empire. After several agonizing minutes, the handmaiden managed to find a cell with a young princess in it.

"Leia," Sabé breathed. She quickly pulled up more information on her. She was to be executed the next day, however the execution was not finalized. A medic was scheduled to attend to Leia within the hour. Sabé frowned at that. Medics weren't called for prisoners about to be killed it just wasn't practical. Unless...

Is it possible that Vader suspects something? It was possible. He was a Sith Lord after all. Sabé's fingers froze over the keys.

If Vader did find out-if he even suspected who Leia was, then that meant trouble. Sabé would still rescue the girl, but Vader would do everything to get her. He would alert the Emperor and then trying to keep Leia safe would become nearly impossible. Leia had a lot hatred in her small body and she had a bad temper (kinda like a certain Sith Lord). She would be easy prey should the Emperor decide to take on another apprentice.

Sabé quickly messaged the medic who was in charge of Leia using the comm that the security man had left behind, asking him if he could fill out some paperwork before attending to Leia. Hopefully, that would buy Sabé a few extra minutes.

With the short time span in mind, Sabé headed out the door. Her hand subconsciously went towards the blaster hidden on her hip.

oOoOo

Luke was not claustrophobic. However, he hated being crammed in a small, dark space, next to a Jedi, a Wookie, two droids, and a smuggler, all while trying to hide his presence from his father.

He heard footsteps above him as Stormtroopers investigated the Millennium Falcon. The young man tensed up as the footsteps stopped just above the hidden group. After a couple moments, the footsteps continued, this time off the ship.

"Boy, it's lucky you had these compartments," Luke told Han, as he shimmied out from under the floor.

"I use them for smuggling," Han replied, "I never thought I'd be smuggling myself in them. This is ridiculous. Even if I could take off, I'd never get past the tractor beam."

"Leave that to me," Obi-Wan stated.

"I knew you were going to say that," Han muttered. Obi-Wan gave Han a small smile.

Obi-Wan explained his plan on how to get access to the tractor beam to shut it down. Unfortunately for Luke, it involved him in Stormtrooper armor. But everyone else agreed to the plan, so they all sat in silence, waiting for the Imperials to board once again.

"The ship's all yours," Luke heard an officer say, "If the scanners pick up anything, report it immediately. All right, let's go."

Obi-Wan gave Han the signal, and the Captain knocked over a box, "Hey down there, could you give us a hand with this?" Han called.

The second the troopers arrived, Han, Chewbacca, and Luke fired on them, successfully stunning each one.

"You ready to join the Empire?" Luke joked to Han.

"Haha, kid," Han rolled his eyes as he pulled on the trooper armor.

Obi-Wan pulled his cloak over his head and hope, Luke, Threepio, Artoo, and Chewbacca stayed out of sight as Han signaled to the office that he had a faulty comm link. The second the door to the office was opened by a soldier, a roaring Chewbacca knocked the man off his feet. Han followed the Wookie in and shot the officers.

"You know, between his howling and your blasting everything in sight, it's a wonder the whole station doesn't know we're here," Luke snapped, tugging off his helmet.

"Bring them on," Han cried, as Threepio, Artoo and Obi-Wan entered, "I prefer a straight fight to all this sneaking around." Luke rolled his eyes at that. Han would get himself killed.

"We found the computer outlet, sir," Threepio interrupted. Obi-Wan walked over and investigated the computer. He called Artoo over and the astromech plugged himself into the computer.

"He says he's found the main computer to power the tractor beam that's holding the ship here," C-3PO interpreted, "He'll try to make the precise location appear on the monitor." The monitor flashed revealing the location. "The tractor beam is coupled to the main reactor in seven locations. A power loss at one of the terminals will allow the ship to leave."

Obi-Wan studied the plans, "I don't think you boys can help," he said, "I must go alone."

Luke shrugged, "Suit yourself." The blonde then through himself onto a chair as the Jedi Knight shot him a calculating glance.

"It's okay, Old Man, I'll take care of the kid," Han reassured. Luke frowned at him.

Obi-Wan sighed and moved towards the door, "Just try to stay out of trouble," his gaze lingered on Luke. He then exited.

Luke sprung up from his seat as Han sat down.

"Where are you going?"

"Would you believe me if I said the 'fresher?" Luke asked.

"No."

"Fine. I need to pick something up."

"What is so important that you would wander through an Imperial ship to get?" Han questioned as Chewie grumbled something Luke didn't understand.

"It's a very valuable piece of information that should be handed to the Alliance."

"I thought you were an Imp," Han stated, still confused.

Luke paused "I don't know what I am, but I don't exactly support the Empire. Obi-Wan has promised that someone I want to meet is with the Alliance, and I think that it might be good for me to see the Galaxy from a new perspective."

"I can respect that. But why give the Alliance important info if you might not support them?"

"Let's just say they might not want me unless I have something they want."

Luke put on his helmet as the occupants of the room watched him.

"Do you want help?" Han questioned.

"I thought you didn't help anyone but yourself?" Luke questioned.

"Yeah, well, it's always good to have good allies. After this, you'll owe me big time," the smuggler attempted to save his reputation.

"Whatever," Luke was smiling under his helmet, "Let's go."

"Chewie, you stay here and wait for us. We'll be back soon," Han instructed. He pulled on his helmet and followed Luke out the door.

oOoOo

"He's here," Vader growled.

He was pacing back and forth in a near empty conference room. Tarkin was sitting at the end of a large table watching the Dark Lord. Vader's one hand were in fists, with the other one clutching his lightsaber, eagerly anticipating a fight with his former master.

"Obi-Wan Kenobi?! What makes you think so?" Tarkin questioned.

"A tremor in the Force. The last time I felt it was in the presence of my old master." Tarkin was one of the few men who knew that Vader was once Kenobi's apprentice, "The-Hero-With-No-Fear".

"Perhaps young Skywalker's disappearance has caused you to become paranoid?" Tarkin suggested.

"Perhaps you are doubting my abilities," Vader shot back. The two men were interrupted by a buzzing sound from Tarkin's commlink.

"Yes?"

"Governor Tarkin, unauthorized personnel have received access to one of the security rooms on the twenty-fifth level."

Vader and Tarkin glanced at each other. Vader raised an eyebrow.

"Was this Kenobi's doing?" Tarkin questioned.

"I do not believe so."

"Then, if you are correct, we have several traitors on board."

"Indeed. It appears we have an infestation, Governor," Vader sneered, "Would you like me to go play exterminator?"

Author's Note: Hello everyone! I didn't really like this chapter. I feel like it was kinda boring. And I know Han is kinda Ooc, but I think he knows how confused Luke is, and wants to help him out. Padmé won't be here for a while, but she is still an important character. The next chapter should include some action and should, hopefully be ready by next week.
