Misguided Light

Chapter 9

Obi-Wan knew the confrontation was coming. He couldn't avoid it. Vader hated him and would do anything to end his life. All Obi-Wan could do was hope that Luke would go to the Rebel Alliance and leave the path his father had set him on.

He could feel the sparks that were Luke and Leia. He felt them meet up. Their signatures danced in the Force, and it took all of Obi-Wan's concentration to keep them hidden. This was so incredibly difficult; Luke and Leia didn't even know how strongly they were amplifying their emotions.

In so many ways, they were like Anakin.

Obi-Wan felt his former apprentice draw closer to him. The Jedi leapt up into the corner just above the doorway and he remained there and remained silent until he heard footsteps approaching.

"You're just prolonging the inevitable, Kenobi."

Obi-Wan looked down at his old padawan. "Are you quite certain about that, Anakin?"

"That name no longer means anything to me," Vader's yellow eyes bore into Obi-Wan's blue ones. "Why don't you come down and face me? Unless you lack the courage."

"Does the name 'Skywalker' mean anything to you?" The Jedi asked, feet hitting the ground as he fell.

"Of course not." Anakin was now circling Obi-Wan with a predatory look on his face.

"Odd. I think it meant a lot to your mother. It meant a lot to your wife." Vader ignited his red blade and snarled at him. "Most importantly, I think it means a lot to your son."

Instantly, Vader's fingers grasped Obi-Wan's neck and slammed him into the wall.

"What did you do to Luke?!" Vader cried in fury.

"I saved his life," Obi-Wan choked out. The Sith threw him across the room.

"Of course you did. Let me guess," sarcasm dripped out of every word, "You're planning on teaching him to bottle his emotions. You want him to kill his own father!"

Without warning, Vader leapt at Obi-Wan. Red and blue sabers clashed as master and apprentice entered yet another duel. Vader had the upper hand, launching deadly attacks against Kenobi that the Jedi could barely hold off.

"You will not take him from me!" Vader roared. He shoved Obi-Wan through a metal door, and into the hangar bay.

Obi-Wan lied on the ground, blood trickling down his head. Vader towered over the fallen Jedi and pulled his saber up to deliver the final blow.

oOoOo

Luke, Leia, Han, and Sabé entered the hangar at a full sprint. Storm troopers were running around, Threepio and Artoo were waiting for the group on the Falcon's boarding ramp. They were halfway to the ship when Luke felt and heard Leia's cry of shock. Luke followed her brown eyed gaze and saw, in the middle of the hangar, his father stood, ready to cut Kenobi down.

"Kriff," Luke muttered. He pulled out his lightsaber and ran towards the two opponents while sending mental reassurances to Leia.

When did Luke's life become so chaotic? Just two days ago he was planning to help his father destroy the Rebel Alliance. Now, he was going to save a Jedi and then run away from the Empire with a smuggler and a Rebel leader.

Maybe Luke was crazy. Maybe he wanted to learn more about his family. Maybe he was sick of the Empire's cruelty. He wasn't sure anymore. But he knew that he didn't want Leia to die and he needed Kenobi to help him locate his mother, if she was still alive.

Was the possibility of a happy family so appealing that Luke would go against everything he learned? Everything grew up with? Apparently so, because every move he made, every decision he made, was supported by the Force.

Just as the red blade was about to cut through Kenobi, Luke launched himself in between the opposing forces. He blocked his father's attack, and used a medium sized Force push to get the man to back off. Vader froze in shock. Neither father nor son heard Leia approach the Jedi behind them and help him to his feet.

"Luke?" The Sith asked, stunned.

Luke said nothing in response, he just steadied his blade and moved into a more defensive position.

'So this is what you've decided? To go against your father?' Vader mentally broadcasted to his son.

'I don't want to fight you; I want a family.'

'And here I was thinking I had provided you with one.' Any sympathy Vader had disappeared and he attacked Luke with the ferocity of an enraged beast. Luke barely parried Vader's blows, but he was clearly no match for Vader.

Vader's cloak had flown off him during his fight with Kenobi. It had been picked up by one of the many stormtroopers hanging around awkwardly, not sure what to do.

Just as Luke was about to be disarmed, a red blaster bolt flew into the fight, striking Vader in the leg. Vader hissed in pain, and pulled out of the fight, momentarily. This was Luke's last chance. He deactivated his lightsaber and ran. He ran towards Leia and Kenobi. Leia's arm was outstretched, and a blaster rested in her fingers, pointed directly at the Sith.

Luke grabbed Leia and cried, "Come on!" To Kenobi. The three ran to the waiting ship, dodging blaster shots.

"Stun only! Don't kill them!" Vader screamed. "I want them alive!"

"Go, go, go!" Leia screamed to Han.

"You heard the lady, Chewie," Han ordered, "Let's get moving!"

No one relaxed on the Falcon until it entered hyperspace. Once it did, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Leia moved to hug Kenobi, and Sabé stood to the side, waiting to shake his hand. Luke walked into the cockpit. He watched from the side as everyone celebrated their escape.

"I'm so glad you're alright!" Obi-Wan said to Leia.

"Likewise! I can't believe we escaped."

"You're telling me," Han butted in, "I'm still reeling from it."

"We should contact your mother, Leia," Sabé said, "She's very worried."

"Of course. I'll do that soon. Just let me catch my breath."

"Hey kid, good thing you knew how to work that blade of yours, or else we'd all be dead," Han said, directing all attention to Luke.

Luke was doubled over, hand on his knees. He was breathing hard, almost to the point of hyperventilating.

"Luke?" Obi-Wan questioned out of concern.

"I-I"ll b-be fine. Just give me a minute," Luke gasped. Leia walked over to Luke, and helped him into the other room, into a seat.

"Are you sure you are okay?" Leia's brown, caring gaze bore into Luke's mind. He blinked several times, and forced down the raging emotions that threatened to show.

"I'll be fine."

Author's Note: I'm alive! But school is killing me. I might get revived when Episode VII comes out! I'm pretty much obsessing over it, writing SW fan fictions, and reading SW fanfictions in my down time.

I'm sorry I'm so late on this chapter! I've been redoing some of the earlier chapters and I've been doing some personal writing as well. I've been so pumped for this chapter! The Skywalker's deal with a lot of drama from here on out. I think we have between 2-4 chapters left of this arc. I'll decide where to go from there.

(I'm feeling kinda crappy right now so any reviews would be wonderful!)
