Surprises of Life Chapter 10 A Pink Frog and Axe Murders

Enjoy!

The next day...

Chase woke up in a start breathing hard and sweaty.

"You okay?" Kayla asked flipping over in bed to face him with worry.

Chase jumped at hearing her voice and remembered what happened last night and blushed a deep red. "Uh...I-I should go..." he muttered quickly getting out of bed and grabbing his work clothes to go change and head home.

The bathroom door firmly shut behind him, "Okay...I'll make breakfast..." she frowned as she got up and headed into her kitchen to whip up something for them to eat before he got out.

Because let's just say he is acting really awkward.

Kayla shook her head with a frown as she quickly scrambled eggs and fried bacon.

Chase closed the toilet cover and sat on top of it with his clothes sitting in his lap.

What the hell happened last night?

He is still trying to answer that himself, what is he going to tell his friends which probably already told their families and friends.

He sighed. He is in some deep shit. His eyes widen in fear and complete horror, Chris is going to totally murder him and dump him in a ditch never to be found again.

He dropped his head into his hands with a loud smack and groan.

"Just breathe, Chase, breathe. It isn't a big deal." he murmured to himself.

Yeah right, having a girl cheat on her boyfriend when the said boyfriend actually knows she is and doesn't stop her. It's Chris's fault this happened!

Chase smiled slightly at the thought then remembered that she could have just chosen him because he was the closest one to her.

He groaned again, facepalming.

What the hell did he get himself into?!

Kayla was quiet eavesdropping on Chase's not so much internal battle of right and wrong. She shook her head with a slight smile, all they did was have a drinking contest which he totally lost to her. Explains his major headache and his memory lost.

She chuckled to herself. After he passed out on her bed she tucked him in and went to bed herself, doesn't he realize he still was in the clothes she gave him because he spilt orange juice on his other clothes.

"Hey Kayla...?" Chase asked with a frown as he walked out of the bathroom.

She turned around to face him dressed in shorts and a tank top, "Yeah?"

"What's this stain?" he pointed to the huge orangish brown stain on his light green shirt.

She raised an eyebrow at his confusion, he really doesn't remember. She frowned, an idea popped in her head that she can get back at him for forgetting. "You spilt orange juice on it. We were mixing it with alcohol and it kind of went too far if you catch my drift." she stated.

"Yeah...I know, um...can we forget that it ever happened and please convince Chris not to murder me in my sleep because I'm way too young to die." Chase begged.

Kayla nodded with a smile, "No problem." she said as she handed him a small sack and lead him to the door.

He raised a confused eyebrow, "It's breakfast to thank you for last night, you made me feel better." Kayla smiled, making Chase blush a deep crimson.

They heard muffled yelps, Kayla and Chase looked at each other. She opened the door and their friends fell into her living room along with Kasey and Chris.

Chase facepalmed, Kayla chuckled uncontrollably at the whole situation. "Nice guys, invade my alone time with Chase real smooth." she complimented sarcastically.

They all blushed in embarrassment at being caught in the act. "Who wants breakfast?" she asked, everyone nodded slowly thinking she should be furious.

She smiled and walked back over to her kitchen to start cooking breakfast again. All the guys got up off the floor and sat in any available seat they could find then the floor.

She finished and handed everyone food, "I'll be back." she said before going over to her dresser grabbing a pile of clothes before going to the bathroom to change and then head outside to do her chores while everyone ate.

"Um...how was last night, Chase?" Luke asked, Owen punched his shoulder to get him to shut up.

"I wanna hear this!" Chris laughed, sitting on the edge of his seat in anticipation. Kasey facepalmed, the younger men raised their eyebrows in surprise.

"Uh...it was alright..." Chase stated, making Chris and Kasey choke on their drinks.

"Alright!?" Chris asked in shock that Chase didn't say more.

"WHAT?!" Kasey semi-yelled in embarrassment that they are talking about his sister this way.

"Yeah, it wasn't bad or anything." Chase lied sweatdropping as Kayla skipped back inside.

"Hey guys, you finished yet?" she asked making everyone jump in their seat and made Luke fall out of his.

She chuckled to herself, "Wash the dishes before you leave, Chris Kasey, I'll see you later!" she called over her shoulder as she left again.

Kayla walked down the path and turned towards Flute Fields. "You know they were talking about your relationship with Chase, right?" Finn asked.

She smiled slightly, "Yeah I know...it isn't a big deal to me, the media talked worst about my personal life back in the city."

Finn nodded, "Okay if you say so, anyway where do we check for the next bell?" he asked as they walked across the bridge.

"I read last night that you can grind things in the windmill here for new products." Kayla explained as they waved to Renee and walked into the windmill.

"Wow..." they both said in awe.

"Hey Kayla, look stairs!" Finn pointed. They glanced at each other before walking up the steps.

Both of their eyes widen, "The green bell frame..." Kayla smiled brightly.

Finn frowned, "But where's the green bell at?"

They sighed as they realized they have to go looking for another bell before moving on to the next one.

"Why can't this ever be easy?" Kayla complained as they heard footsteps walk up to them.

"What are you doing here?" Gill death glared at Kayla.

Kayla and Finn jumped in surprise, "G-Gill! Jeez, don't scare me like that!" Kayla frowned at him.

He raised an eyebrow, "What's that beside you?" he asked.

Kayla looked beside her, "A bell frame..."

Gill rolled his eyes, "No the glitter...you know what never mind!" he semi-yelled stomping his foot.

Kayla jumped, "Jeez, sorry I didn't know you owned everything on the island, Gill! If you want to be a jerk go right on ahead!" Kayla yelled before running out of the windmill.

Tears streamed down her face as she ran forward, "Kayla...?!" Finn semi-yelled chasing after her.

Gill ran a hand through his platinum blond hair in frustration, "Why does she always act like that...women I hate them." he muttered angrily as he crossed his arms in front of him and stared at the empty green bell frame.

His mind thought about the glitter beside her earlier...what could that be?

Kayla stopped against a gate, she pulled on it. "W-Why?" she sobbed sliding down the front of the gate to the dirt ground.

Finn sighed in relief that his partner in crime stopped running. "Kayla, it's Gill you should expect him to be a douchebag all of the time. It's nothing new." Finn said quietly landing on the ground in front of her and laid a small hand on her foot.

"I-I know, i-it just feels like Brian is happening all over again." Kayla muttered into her hands as she lifted her head and wiped some tears away to be replace by more.

"But Kayla you are still you even if you are pretending to be someone else. You're still in here." Finn said seriously, making her look down at him pointing to his heart.

"Y-You're right I'm still myself I shouldn't let anyone tell me otherwise!" Kayla smiled slightly. "Thank you, Finn, for everything! Now where should we go?"

Finn smiled brightly as Kayla stood up and flew up to her shoulder, "This is Fugue Forest, it's suppose to be the home of a witch." Finn said spookily, trying to scare Kayla, but only scared himself making her chuckle lightly.

"Nice one Finn, but I don't think witches are real." she stated with a raised eyebrow.

Finn pouted, "The Harvest Goddess is real, Harvest Sprites, I am, and witches are too. I'm serious plus according to island history she's been here for a while, longer than I have at least. Maybe she knows something about the green bell?" Finn suggested.

Kayla shrugged, "Might as well try..." she said as she tried to push open the gate, it didn't budge. "It's locked..."

"Maybe Hanna knows why?" Finn suggested with a shrug, Kayla nodded as they walked towards Horn Ranch.

Kayla walked in to be greeted by a cheerful Hanna. "Hi Kayla! What can I do for you today?" Hanna asked smiling.

"Um...well, I was wondering if you had the key to Fugue Forest since it's kind of locked..." Kayla trailed off nervously.

Hanna frowned, "That's weird, it use to never be locked, Cain!" Hanna called as her husband walked up.

"What?" Cain asked walking into the room and smiled when he noticed Kayla. "Hi Kayla!"

Kayla nodded a hello. "Kayla told me that the gate to Fugue Forest is locked." Hanna explained making her husband frown in confusion.

"That's weird, come on, we'll go check again." Cain said, Kayla nodded as they waved and headed back to the entrance of the forest.

Cain tried opening the gate, it didn't move an inch. "That's really strange... I suggest that you ask Dale if he has the key, the carpenters are usually the only ones to go in there, but sometimes kids go in there to mess around. I suggest if you still want to go in there that you be careful and don't go in too deep into the swamp, they say a witch lives somewhere deep in the swamp. She's dangerous..." Cain explained.

Kayla nodded as Finn hid behind her, "Hi Gill, nice to see you out in the sunshine!" Cain waved as Gill stopped and frowned at Cain and her and waved at him and walked up.

"What's going on?" Gill asked with a raised eyebrow.

Cain was about to answer when Kayla cut him off. "I have work to do, thank you Cain for the suggestion." Kayla bowed as she waved and left.

Gill frowned angrily at her back, "Get going, Gill." Cain stated pushing him forward almost making him trip over his own two feet as Cain chuckled and walked back into his house.

Gill death glared the older man before wiping invisible dust from his clothes and fast walked to catch up to Kayla.

She didn't notice that he was in hearing distance behind her, "Finn, do you think Dale will give us the key so we can get the green bell back on its frame so we can ring it?" she asked looking to her side like she was talking to someone.

Gill's eye widen, Brian's sister is just as insane as the newest farmer.

"I don't know, Kayla, he better, the Harvest Goddess doesn't have a lot of time." Gill noticed a glittering blob appear, it formed into a little person with a pointed hat then faded just as quickly as it showed itself.

"What was that?" Gill asked in shock making Kayla jump and spin to face him.

She glared at him, "Mind your own business, Gill. I have a job to do and you or anyone else on this god forsaken island will not stop me from completing it." Kayla stated unforgivingly.

Gill's eyes widen in shock at being talk to like this for the first time in his life, usually everyone either listened to him or they regretted that they didn't.

"I-I'm sorry..." Gill lowered his head shamefully.

Kayla frowned, "Sorry, it's been a long day and it just started and all. I-I really wish that you would give me...us a chance to be friends, but I don't see this working out whatsoever." Kayla stated shaking her head.

"Friends...?" Gill asked, Kayla nodded wiping her eyes with the back of her hand.

"When I first saw you back at my concert I couldn't get your face out of my head, the whole time all I could see was you. Kasey told me about all of his friends and since he's mentioned you, you've been stuck and I can't get you out of my mind. I'm going completely insane and everyone here knows it, the same happened to Brian, too much city in our blood and it doesn't fit too well in this place. I want you to know as soon as I'm done with my mission I'll leave the island and Brian and I will never come back here and you won't have to deal with us anymore." Kayla explained.

Gill just stared blankly at her, "Leave...?" he murmured quietly, she nodded.

"You'll never see another Blythe here again, I'll even take Kasey back with me to save you some trouble and paperwork." Kayla said. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go talk to Dale. Remind me, Finn, that we need to stop at the house to get an axe."

Kayla walked away, leaving a stunned Gill in her wake.

He had no idea what was going on anymore...

Kayla walked into the Carpenters, "Hi Kayla, what can I do for you?" Dale asked with a smile as Bo and Luke walked out of the back room.

"Hey Kayla, came to see my awesome new axe technique!" Luke semi-yelled.

Kayla laughed as Dale and Bo facepalmed loudly. "Sorry Luke, but I came to see your father..." Luke interrupted her.

"I didn't know you liked older men?" Luke asked tapping his chin. Bo was disgusted with the idea and Dale blushed in embarrassment at his son's stupidity going to a whole new level.

"I don't like super old men, just one to maybe three years older, nothing major, but no that is not the reason I came here. Anyway um... Dale, Fugue Forest's entrance is locked and I was wondering if you had the key?" Kayla explained.

Dale nodded, "Yeah, I locked it to make sure none of the children go in there and get lost, you can have the key but try not to get lost because once you do it's nearly impossible to get out again and be careful of the witch that lives deep in the swamp, I wouldn't go too far in, but that is your decision." Dale said as he handed over the key to open the gate.

Kayla nodded and smiled with a wave as she left, she quickly ran back home and grabbed her axe. Apparently Chris and Kasey were hanging out with Chase all day today which means they will be interrogating him.

She sighed and shook her head as she heard a knock on her door. She walked over and opened it to reveal a very nervous Gill at her door.

"What's wrong, Gill?" Kayla asked in worry.

"U-Uh, nothing that important, I see that you are going to head into the forest and all and I wanted you to know that I want you to be careful in there and take this." Gill explained handing a small box to her.

Kayla was in complete shock as she opened the small yellow and pink present and smiled brightly, "Thank you, Gill, it's beautiful. I can never find such a perfect shaped Sakura Shell, the ones I always find are lopsided." she chuckled as she lifted it out of the box and walked over to her bedside table and laid it down carefully.

Gill stood awkwardly outside, "Gill?" Kayla asked looking up at him, making his eyes widen.

"W-What?" he asked nervously running his hand through his hair and blushing slightly.

"Would you like to walk with me to Flute Fields?" Kayla asked with a blush, Gill stared at her blankly. "If you're busy it's fine!" she quickly said.

Gill shook his head and smiled slightly, "It would a good change of pace." he said as she nodded and closed the door behind her.

They walked silently side by side as they headed back towards the bridge they need to get across to arrive back in Flute Fields. Gill stopped in the middle of the bridge, Kayla stopped in worry.

"What's wrong, Gill?" she asked with a tilt of her head.

Gill shook his head, "Just hoping that even though I'm a jerk sometimes I hope that we can be good friends...eventually."

Kayla nodded slowly, "That would be nice, but can you promise me something?" she asked looking up at Gill.

Gill frowned slightly, looking down into her reddish brown eyes. "Depends on what?" he stated.

Kayla smiled sadly, "When I leave soon, don't be sad and actually try to be nice to my brother." she said, her eyes shining pleadingly. "At least be his one actual friend that he has here."

Gill's face dropped in surprise at her request, before blushing slightly, "You know the whole island doesn't like Brian really well so it would be really obvious if I do..." Gill trailed off.

Kayla frowned sadly while nodding, It's fine never mind. I'll see you later." she said before quickly walking away and into Fugue Forest.

Gill punched the bridge, "Why do I always screw something up!" he muttered angrily to himself before dropping his head into his hands on the bridge railing.

Kayla walked into the forest where all kinds of hali trees stood tall in their home protecting the animals on the forest floor. "Kayla, this place is creepy looking and really quiet..." Finn said quietly hiding behind her, frantically looking around.

Kayla pulled out her axe and walked forward towards a small path in between two trees leading deeper into the forest. She walked quietly forward deeper and deeper into the dark forest.

They heard a hoot, making Finn squeak and hide in her hair. Kayla broke out in laughter and patted his tiny head in comfort. "It was just an owl, Finn."

"S-Sure..." Finn stuttered, still looking around frantically for an axe murder waiting to jump out at them.

Eventually they walked into the actual swamp in the forest. "A house!" Finn shouted, pointing in front of them across a wooden boardwalk like bridge.

Kayla smiled brightly, "Let's go." she said as she walked onto the wooden bridge, followed by a worried and scared Finn.

"Maybe we shouldn't since a witch probably lives there and would cook us alive if we go in there." Finn said quickly.

Kayla rolled her eyes, "You're just a flying fraidy cat, Finn, we'll be fine." she smiled holding up her axe.

Finn sighed in relief, "Fine, but you're going first since you're armed and dangerous." Finn said as he landed on her shoulder.

She knocked lightly, the door opening itself, Kayla and Finn glanced at each other before she pushed the door open more and walked slowly in.

They walked in and then heard a ribbit, making Finn scream like a girl and Kayla yelp. A pink frog hopped onto the table in front of them with a black pointed hat on its head.

Finn laughed, "What kind of joke is this, it's just a frog." he chuckled wiping his eyes and landed softly back onto Kayla's shoulder.

She put away her axe and looked around for a person that looks like a witch, "I don't see a witch anywhere, Finn..." she frowned, Finn nodded in agreement.

The frog ribbit angrily, their eyes widen in alarm but sighed, "We better go ask the wizard maybe he knows...?" Finn suggested tapping his chin, Kayla nodded in agreement before leaving and closing the door behind them, making the frog ribbit and hop around angrily.

"Let's get out of here." Kayla said as they walked back into the forest. They were about half way back when they heard a bush rustle.

"What was that?" Finn asked looking around wildily.

Kayla looked around too for the source of the noise with no luck, "It probably was a deer or something." she stated.

Finn nodded slowly in agreement as they moved forward. Another bush rustled making them jump and immediately stop in place.

Finn looked out from behind her hair with wide scared out of his mind eyes. "K-Kayla, I w-want to go h-home..."

"Me too." Kayla assured him as she stepped forward towards the bush that moved earlier.

She was about able to touch it when the bush moved and something jumped out making her fall backwards onto her back. Finn screamed a high pitch scream and flew away to go hide behind a tree.

Gill looked up in confusion when he heard a scream, Chris, Kasey, and Chase ran up to him. "What was that?" Chase asked.

Chris and Kasey shrugged in worry. Realization dawned on Gill at that moment. "Kayla, went into Fugue Forest earlier." he informed them.

"WHAT?!" Chris screamed shaking Gill. "Why did you let her go in there alone, you fucking idiot!"

Kasey frowned shaking his head at Gill, but then stopped. "That wasn't Kayla's scream though..."

"You're right!" Chris said wide eyed in realization.

"If it wasn't her scream, then whose scream was it?" Chase asked, Gill shrugged.

"I haven't seen anyone else go in there besides Kayla, unless it's the witch."

Kasey death glared Gill. "Come on!" he ordered as the four men ran as fast as humanly possible into Fugue Forest.

"Kayla!" Kasey yelled as they rounded a corner where they heard labored breathing in the clearing up ahead.

They heard a scream, not as high pitch as earlier as they ran into view. Kayla was laying on the ground with a shadow of a person looking down at her with an axe in his hand. Another person jumped out onto Kasey's back.

He threw the guy off and onto the ground hard, making the black masked guy grunt in pain. The black masked guy above Kayla heaved the axe down to attack her.

Kayla screamed again while crying and rolled out of the way at the last second before the axe lodged itself into the ground. Chase ran to her side and kneeled in front of the black shadow to protect her.

Kasey and Chris punched the two black masked guys, knocking them out instantly before they even touched the ground.

Chase turned to Kayla as she sat up and sobbed into her hands, he hugged her tightly into his side. "You're okay, Kayla, I'm here..." Chase soothed.

Gill frowned angrily at the sight of the couple hugging. He always gets screwed over when Chase shows up and saves the day.

Chase helped Kayla to her feet as she shook in fear. "Finn...?" she asked.

Chase and Gill raised a confused eyebrow towards Kasey and Chris for an explanation. They shook their heads, "I'm o-okay, Kayla..." Finn said flying out of hiding.

"You're bleeding!" the sprite yelled out to Kasey and Chris's horror.

Gill helps Chase steady her, but pulls away when he felt something sticky on his hand. He looks at his hand in horror and shock.

Chris steps forward when he felt he stepped in a sticky puddle and stopped to look down at the puddle of blood getting soaked into the ground.

"Kayla!" Kasey yelled rushing to her as she collapsed to her knees and felt her cheek land in her own blood.

Kasey lifted Kayla into his arms, "Bring those bastards with us and figure out what the hell did they do to my sister." Kasey growled as everyone hurried and complied as they rushed out of the forest in record time.

They ran into town, most of the villagers were enjoying their beautiful sunny day and smiled when they glanced in their friends' direction of their arrival and went back to their conversations before looking back in shock at the sight.

The sight of a bloody disheveled Kasey carrying Kayla in his arms followed by a worried Chris, Chase, and Gill leading two black masked people after their friends.

Kayla's head rolled from where it was tucked into Kasey's chest and down so it was visible to everyone's eyes. Selena screamed in horror at Kayla's bloody face, everyone gasped in shock at her face and limp form as they hurried past and were lead forward by a very serious Jin into the clinic.

"Gill, what is the meaning of this?!" Hamilton demanded as they stopped in front of their friends and families.

Gill shook his head, "I-I have no idea..."
