MAINISLAND
A warm hand on her shoulder—what was it about that that seemed so foreign? Had her parents not laid a hand on her shoulder when she needed it? Soku remembered the feeling of his hand now as she lay in her newest temporary bed. The ceiling above her was dark with shadows and the sound of her companion's fast breathing didn't help to unsettle her. She had gotten used to it pretty easily but it's hard not to get used to something when you're with that person every second of your day. She laid her head on its side and ventured a look over to Rio. She slept peacefully, breathing quickly like gasping. The lopsided grin Soku had gotten used to as well, adorned her face as she slumbered on in a tight ball—her legs pulled up to her chest. The sight pulled at the corners of Soku's mouth, but she didn't let it budge. Even if she couldn't remember the last time she smiled, she knew that it probably never came easily to her. Honestly, that scared her. What kind of a person doesn't smile when they want to? She frowned easily and turned her head over toward the window. Rio let one eye crack open and a scowl slip onto her otherwise jeering face. She let out a slow sigh and felt her heart slow before rolling over and staring at the wall a while.
The open window blew in fresh salty air, right off of the sea. This was also a new feeling for Soku. She didn't live on an island or anywhere near the sea. She knew that as soon as the air outside hit her nose. It wasn't anything that made sense to her. The stars shone outside the window and winked at her playfully.
"Sure." She said quietly, "go ahead and make fun of me. I'll get it eventually." She sighed and forced her eyes closed. In the morning she would get a run in and finally see the rest of the island. Her muscles ached like she should be doing something and her arm twitched whenever she thought of… anything. It was frustrating but all she could do was sit and think about what to do. That was something else she just knew. She wasn't used to being the damsel in distress, but that's what she was.
SECONDARYISLAND
The island was just as beautiful as it had been the past few days. A short boat ride took her to the secondary island of Destiny and she strapped on a pair of flexible shoes. She could tell her body was not used to running on sand but as soon as the doctor suggested physical exercise as an outlet she assumed running. Maybe making laps was a part of her life before. The sand moved under her feet and worked muscles that she could tell weren't used to being worked, but when her pulse elevated, she knew herself. She felt her muscles pull and twist. She found that no matter how much she ran or her heart beat, she didn't get tired. If she sweat, she couldn't feel it. The sand was just another new thing to her, like her life had been filled with recently, but it was nice. It was good to have something that made her feel normal, like she was human.
The first day that she came to the island she walked. She looked around the island and found things that made her smile and laugh, and become completely silent from the beauty in front of her. Part of the island was a giant wooden construction, that at one point could have been a ship. The neighbor kids that she had yet to become acquainted with liked to play there after the sun had cooled down enough. There was a zip line, if you knew how to climb, that would take you a fourth of a way across the island to a grove coconut trees. The palms were five times Soku's height, at 5'6, and waved stiffly in the wind. There's a waterfall so beautiful that you could stare at it for days, and the sunsets, if you waited long enough, were so breathtaking that Soku even had thought of staying to watch the sunrise as well.
Unfortunately, one other thing about her life that was becoming routine was having a place to go back to. The girl that they had met in the hospital, who apparently had helped the two boys bring them in somehow, had insisted that the girls stay with her and her family. The girl, Kairi, was short and had a wine colored hair, that hung chopped at her jaw line. She had a childlike voice and what seemed like a childlike personality. Soku sighed thinking about her now. The girl wasn't unfriendly... she was just a little abrasive. Of course, this was Soku's first opinion and she didn't know why but she had a hard time looking over her first opinions. Her first impression of Riku was that he was quiet but he was obviously who the other two looked up to. He was Literally the strong silent type, based off of his muscle to body ratio. It had taken a lot of prodding but each girl admitted that they found that attractive. On the other hand, they each had something to say about Sora, the younger boy, as well. He was a good kid. His smile made Soku feel at ease and his eyes were the color of the sky on a good day- clear and bright. Rio admitted to the fact that his honesty was refreshing, though Soku refused to make any calls on that matter.
The names are getting harder to read but I find that its easier to keep things separated when you have the names of the scenes in between. Tell me what you think! I'd be glad to hear criticisms along with compliments, or even just suggestions. Thanks for reading!
