Fawkes and Dumbledore

.

Dumbledore was a very bored headmaster on this Tuesday Morning. He suckled one of his favourite Lemon drops sweets in his mouth but still ennui took over him as he stared out the window at the castle grounds.

Fawkes, his pet pheonix, also squawked at him, because his feathered friend was also bored too.

"What is it Fawkes?" he asked the phoenix, while adjusting his half-moon glasses.

The bird squawked again, but made his intentions still no more clear or intelligible.

"Fine, be like that," Dumbledore mumbled in irritation and went back to reading his very worn copy of the Daily Prophet.

But then he turned back to the pheonix as it begun to sing a melodic tune.

"Fawkes!" he exclaimed. "That is a beautiful song and I have not heard you sing it before."

Fawkes stopped singing immediately and looked bashful as he ruffled his feathers with his beak.

Dumbledore, however, had been inspired out of his ennui. The old headmaster took out his diary and wrote down the musical notes of Fawke's little song, then feeling inspired himself he tried to pen down some possible lyrics to make a ditty from it.

"Hmm, writing lyrics to a song is not that easy, Fawkes," Dumbledore quipped and read aloud the few stanzas he had come up with.

'The Secret to a good rhyme

is not to take your time

but to spew out any line

and eschew good sense

and suck on lemon drops and lime

At least that's my two pence

and I drink tea of mint and thyme '

Dumbledore looked up at Fawkes through his half-moon glasses. "What did you think, Fawkes, was that any good?"

Fawkes squawked miserably before flapping his wings and flying out the window to find something better and more interesting to do.

Dumbledore frowned as he looked down at his diary. "Hmm, I guess he doesn't like thymes or limes?"

He got out his quill, dipped it into the inkpot, and tried to rewrite the rhyme into something his bird-brained friend might enjoy.

.

Outside the window, Fawkes flapped his wings and sneered. "He's the one who's bird brained! Even I can write better rhymes than that!" And he sang his song again as he soared higher and higher above Hogwart's castle and enjoyed the view.
