Chapter 2

"This. This is why." She stated bluntly, this time making no eye contact unlike in the pair's previous encounter. At first Booth stared puzzled at the woman in front of him and then he remembered.

"So Amy, the FBI thinks you could have possibly had a motive as to why you might have killed your father. What exactly do you think that is? " he remembered that young looking girl who just sat silently staring at him.

Booth was brought back to reality by the sound of the girl beginning to cry, tears staining her beautiful pale face. That's what she was at this moment in time, beautiful; Amy Brown was seen as beautiful for once in her life, not "gorgeous" or "sexy" but beautiful.

The tears she cried were tears of shame, not those of remorse or guilt, but shame. The shame she felt for letting herself be treated like an object her whole life.

He stood up went to touch her lightly on the arm as a sign of support but she reacted unusually as though the touch was painful, her face scrunched up as she turned to look away.

Suddenly it hit him like a bullet.

"I understand." he said. The sound of tears falling stopped and she embraced him in a tight hug. He repeated, "I understand."
