A/N I'm so sorry! It's been crazy here but I have the rest of the story mapped out so the updates won't be this long between them. I would appreciate it if someone could IM me as I have an idea that I want to bounce off of someone and I would like it to be someone who is familiar with the story. Thank you for all your reviews. I hope you like it. This chapter kicked my butt, I literally rewrote it 10 times.
It was like he had been slapped. Dean couldn't believe that Lucy had said to him. His mind kept replaying her words over and over again, "I still dream about him hitting me. I am trying to get away from him." How could he have missed that? As he sat stunned in his locker room he couldn't believe that she had said. I want to be with you, I don't know how to make you believe that. He jerked to his feet with the intention of taking a walk. Ha! like he'd be able to walk off any of the tension that filled him right now. As he paced through the halls of the arena he found himself standing outside the Divas locker room, he knew he needed to talk to her but what the hell did he say? What do you say to the wife you've been fighting with for the last few months? The one whose father was paying you to keep her safe until in his words, "she comes home where her mother and I can take care of her." Knocking on the door he hoped that she was their otherwise he had no idea where he needed to look. When the door opened he groaned when he saw Nikki Bella standing there, "What do you want?" Dean tried to look past her but he couldn't see anyone else in the room, "Do you know where Lucy is? I need to talk to her about something." Nikki rolled her eyes, she had been increasingly hostile towards Dean since Lucy had gotten out of the hospital and he was pretty sure that wasn't going to let up any time soon. "She's not here, I think she's in the ring with Drew, not that it should matter to you, you're the one who wanted them to get together." Dean nodded and headed to the main part of the arena hoping that Lucy was there, he needed to talk to her but didn't have much time before the show started. When he reached the ring, Lucy stood there in the middle of it while Drew had his arms wrapped around her. He could hear Drew whispering in her ear but he couldn't make out what he was actually saying. "Mind if I cut in?"
Drew spun around with Lucy still in his arms and then very quickly let her go after seeing the look in Dean's eyes. "Yeah man she's all yours." Dean leaned back against the ropes and just stared at Lucy until she began to grow self-conscience. Wrapping her arms around her middle, she tilted her head to the side, and asked, "Did you want something?"
Dean nodded and looked down when he spoke, "We need to talk about what you said, what you told me today. What did you mean when you said you don't want Jake anymore? And what's going on between you and Drew?"
Lucy started to chuckle quietly, "Drew has been teaching me a little bit about what you do every night, today he was working on different holds. It's actually been pretty interesting, while I doubt I'll ever want to get in the ring it is helping me get a better understanding of what you do every night. And as for Jake, yes okay? I meant every word I said. He was someone who played a big part of my life for so long that I really just lost perspective about who and what he is. I know now that he's not someone that I want to be in my life. He's definitely in my past, and someone who doesn't have a shot at being a part of my future."
Dean crossed his arms and seemingly prepared to do battle but still didn't say anything. He hopped up onto the top of the turnbuckles and then asked, "So, what do we do now? I mean, I know what I want but..." He trailed off and looked up at her, "Let's have dinner tonight. It will give us a chance to clear the air and also give us time to just talk." Lucy nodded her head in acceptance. "Yeah, I think that would be a good idea."
As she stood in front of the bathroom mirror later that evening, Lucy was amused by what she was doing; preparing for a date with her husband. While she didn't know where Dean was going to take her, she knew she wanted to look her absolute best. As she mentally went through her wardrobe she settled on the perfect outfit. It was one that she had bought yesterday when Nikki, Nattie, Brie and her went shopping. It was a red dress that had a loose top and clung to her mid-thigh. After she finished putting on her makeup and curling her hair she went ahead and grabbed her shoes. Dean wanted to treat this as a date so he was in Seth and Roman's room getting ready. After she finished putting her shoes on there was a knock on the door. "Just a minute!" Opening the door she was surprised to see Nikki and Brie standing outside her door. "Hey what are you doing here?" The sisters walked into her room before Nikki answered, "We heard that you have a date tonight. Who is it with?" Before Lucy could answer there was another knock on the door. Lucy spoke quickly, "Um, you know. Listen, I know that you and Dean don't get along, but we decided to…" Nikki didn't answer she just walked past Lucy and opened the door.
The last thing Dean expected when he knocked on Lucy's door was to see an irate Nikki standing in front of it, "What are you doing here?" He felt ridiculous holding the flowers in his hands as he was being glared at but he refused to back down. "Nikki, what are you doing here? Where's Lucy?" He watched as Lucy squeezed past her friend and said, "Hi." Once she noticed the flowers she put her hands over her mouth, "Dean are those for me? I love flowers!" He held them out to her and then slowly moved past Nikki so he could follow Lucy into her room. "I figured we'd go to this really nice Italian restaurant. We'll be able to talk there in private." He raked his eyes over Lucy, he wanted to tell her how beautiful she looked but he didn't want to do that in front of Nikki and Brie. He really just wanted them to go away.
Lucy had never wanted to get rid of Brie and Nikki as much as she did tonight. Nikki especially was being so rude; she just stood there glaring at Dean every time he said anything. Sending a pleading glance at Brie, Lucy tried to get the twins to leave. "Nik, didn't you say that you and John were going out tonight too? Don't you need to get ready for that?" Nikki stood for another moment before she leaving, when she got to the door she said, "Dean, hurt her again and you'll have me to deal with." Brie tugged her sister out the door with the promise that they'd see her tomorrow over lunch.
After the Nikki and Brie left, Lucy and Dean were able to put the awkward beginning of the night behind them and enjoy their evening. In fact, Lucy couldn't remember the last time she had laughed as much as she did with Dean that night. He told her stories from the road and his indy days that were absolutely outrageous. "But yeah, I mean Gary wasn't too happy with us after we ended the match in our underwear, but on the plus side, I got a hell of a lot of tips from the people in the back." Wiping the tears from her eyes Lucy shook her head, "I can't believe you were in a bra and panties match! God, I'd pay to see that." Dean quirked an eyebrow, "I'm sure someone has it on video but I'd have to kill who ever showed that to another person."
After a brief pause Dean steepled his fingers and asked, "What was it like growing up in your family? You seem like you're pretty close to your mom and dad." Lucy smiled as she thought of her parents, "They're the greatest. They were there for everything with school, and they were the best friends I could ever have. There's literally nothing I couldn't have asked for and they would have gotten it for me. They were so supportive when I decided not to go to law school and instead get my paralegal certificate. The only thing they ever really pushed me on was being with Jake. They thought that was what was best for me but once I told them what happened they completely supported my decision to make things work with you. Of course, that's if you want to make things work with me." Lucy tilted her head after her last statement. It was time to talk about the real reason they were here tonight; it was time to figure out just what their future held for them.
Dean sat back in his seat, for him it was clear and he laid it out in front of her in the easiest way he knew how, "If you're sure you're completely over Jake then I want to start over too. I think we should get to know each other. Spend time together." Lucy summed up everything in one word, "Date. You think we should date." When he nodded his head in affirmation, Lucy smiled and lifted her wine glass, "To dating your spouse." Clinking glasses together it quickly became clear that it was going to be one of the more interesting parts of their journey together.
