"What's going on?" Hijikata mumbled with a somewhat irritated tone, as the two younger people glared at each other, both appearing annoyed and a little confused. The black-haired man then turned to his fellow officer. "Oi, Sougo, as much as I care about your lover's tiff, we need to find Katsura. He's in the area."
"Hijikata-san, do you really think we're going to catch him? The manga's been going on since 2003 and Katsura is still on the streets. I am personally more interested in why this idiot is acting like she's never met me before," the man named 'Okita Sougo' responded.
"Tch, this is a waste of my time, I'm going to find that terrorist. Just continue slacking off with China, you damn brat," Hijikata said, dropping his cigarette and stomping it out with his foot. "I'll make you commit seppuku later for not doing your job."
"You know that that's littering, right? It's against the law," Sougo said, pulling a bazooka out of nowhere and aiming it at the demon vice chief who was walking away from them. "Die, Hijikata, you criminal." He glanced at the redhead next to him. "He only did that to look cool."
"Oi," Kagura muttered. "I don't know who you are, brat, but from what I've gathered you're a rude, ignorant sadist-"
"Ah, are you describing yourself?"
"Shut up, yes? Anyway, I don't know why you think you know me, but I don't want anything to do with someone like you."
"You… You really don't know me?" Sougo asked, a little bemused. What was happening? How could China not remember him? She hated him, he hated her. They had been fighting on a daily basis for a couple of years.
"No," she answered. "Sorry, but I haven't a clue who you are, uh-huh."
"Why me? Why would you forget me?" Worried thoughts rushed through his mind. Maybe she hated him to the point she forced herself to forget? He certainly couldn't have that, who else was he going to fight with? Who else was a worthy rival?
"Eh... Anego baked for me since it was my birthday the other day…" She began, a little unsure of what to say.
"Huh, the boss lady fed you her famous dark matter and you just forgot me?" He said, irritated. Why hadn't she forgotten others? Why did she remember Hijikata above him? It was her birthday? Maybe that's why she'd looked so happy even when he beat her in their fight about a week ago… Not that she remembered that fight… or anything about him. "You seemed to remember that bastard Hijikata though, China, even though you've had fewer interactions with him than with me."
"Shinpachi, Gin-chan and Anego stayed up all night with me, explaining who everyone that I knew was…" She explained, before adding. "Well, all the vital Gintama characters who I'd probably bump into later on in the manga. You know, Gori-san, Tsukki, Yamazaki…"
"Wait." Sougo said, struggling to keep his usual deadpan tone of voice. "They told you about Yamazaki, but didn't tell you about me. He has hardly any screen time in comparison to me… And I was ranked higher than all three of those people in the popularity poll!"
"They definitely did not mention you, uh-huh."
Wordlessly, the sandy-haired policeman grabbed Kagura's arm and started walking. She didn't struggle at first as she was both surprised and confused by his actions, but after they had walked a few steps, she grabbed his arm and pinned him against a near wall. "What are you doing?" She yelled. "Don't just grab me, yes? I am not an idiot, I will not be dragged around by a stranger, uh-huh!"
"China, get off," he said simply, uncomfortable by her current closeness. She had grown over the last few years, making it somewhat distractingly arousing for her to press herself against him like she currently was. The only problem with this scenario was that it made it look like he was the M in their relationship, when it would obviously be the other way round. Damn, she was too close for him to think seriously. He shoved her but her grip was tighter than usual. She was obviously annoyed. "Oi, China, get off now.
"Listen, I don't know who you are, I'm sorry about that, but you really need to stop acting so familiarly around me."
"I don't really know who you are right now. In what world does the potty-mouthed brat of the Yorozuya apologise to me?"
"Stop talking to me like that, you idiot sadist!"
He smirked. "Did you just call me 'sadist' again?"
"Yes? So what? You are one, uh-huh!"
"Feel free to continue calling me that from now on," he said, before giving her a hard push while she was distracted. He finally had himself unpinned. "Now, China, time to make you remember me."
The girl frowned, staring at his face. His smirk had widened and his eyes had a scary glint. She wasn't too sure if she wanted to remember him, and she was definitely a little worried how he was going to make her remember.
Author's note:
Sorry about the wait, I'm super busy at the moment so it's hard to find the time. That's also why all of the chapters are really short and bad.
I'm definitely going to write a better version of this someday because I really like the plot, but it's difficult to find the time to write a well-written, interesting long chapter.
Anyway, thanks for the reviews and for reading, I will try to update my stories more.
