On the streets of Edo, two rivals stood facing each other, one smirking and the other extremely confused. The latter had no recollection of who the man she was looking at even was; however there was something familiar about his current stance and expression. It was a mixture of things; the sadistic smirk, which told her that he was about to do something that would most likely harm her; the red stare of his eyes, showing her how serious he was and then there was his hand, which rested on the hilt of his sword as if he were about to… no. Realisation hit the Yato woman almost too late, as she jumped back, just missing a strike from Okita Sougo's sword. Her eyes widened as she realised that her instincts were not as quick as she had just thought. The sword had managed to slice her red cheongsam just above her bellybutton and drew a few droplets of blood. "Just what in the hell are you doing, huh?" Kagura yelled, surprised and bewildered by the strange man's actions. "You could have seriously hurt me, yes?" Just a few moments ago the man had said that he was going to make her remember him and his method was trying to slaughter her?! The redhead did not understand the situation at all, but she realised now that she was lucky of her Yato heritage. Gin-chan had said that even though she was his wondrously polite daughter, who refused to accept her pay as he deserved it more, she was from an amanto tribe renowned for its skilled warriors.
The man's smirk stayed on his face as he looked her in the eye. "Oi, oi, China," Okita Sougo said, licking the tip of his blade, tasting her blood. "Your reflexes failed you. If you're not careful you could get seriously hurt." He noted her gripping her umbrella tightly as her eyebrows drew together... perhaps she was in fear of him. He sheathed his sword. It was crystal clear now that this wasn't all a trick. She really did not remember him. The usual Kagura would have expected that attack and dodged it with ease.
She cringed as the man's tongue touched the blade. She wanted to run, but something was stopping her. This man intrigued her. "What… what is your problem, you dumb brat?" She muttered, beginning to feel angry. "Why are you doing this to me?"
His face had returned to his usual blank expression and he spoke monotonously. "Because it's fun, China."
"Stop calling me that!" She argued.
"I always call you that, so it might help you remember me."
"But I do not want to remember you, yes? I don't want anything to do with you, uh-huh!"
"Ne ne~ China, I might have to have you arrested for hurting a poor policeman's heart."
"Eh, shut up, as if I care about your heart, yes?" She said, before shooting him with her umbrella, which he seemed to have expected as he easily dodged the bullet. She frowned, surprised by her violent actions once again. This stranger made her act completely different to how Gin-chan and Shinpachi described her. "Just who are you, Okita Sougo, huh?"
"I'll show you, China girl," he replied, reaching for his sword once more. She noticed this and moved instinctively into a more defensive position. "Oi, that's more like it. You might want to put up a little bit more of a fight while you're at it. We've never been friends, more like rivals, and I probably wouldn't mind it if I accidently slit your throat."
"Tch, die, sadist," she retorted naturally, not thinking anything of it. However it momentarily distracted the other, so she was able to land the first hit, before he acted. A grunt of pain came as her umbrella hit him hard on the shoulder, causing the girl to grin. It was strange, acting like this, being rude and violent, made her happy. Even stranger yet, being with this guy had made her smile. Surely Gin-chan and Shinpachi were wrong…? Violence was in her nature and although she didn't want to kill anyone, beating the hell out of them sounded fun.
"Heh. Now, this is the China I know and…" He stopped talking as he landed a kick to his rival's stomach. "hate."
"Are you sure you do not love me, yes? You seem pretty obsessed with trying to get me to remember you, uh-huh!" She countered, returning the favour by hitting him in the face with her umbrella.
"Only because I love seeing you suffer."
The two continued to fight, occasionally managing to land hits on each other, but most of the time the two could manage to block each move, as if it had been rehearsed beforehand. Okita's fighting style was something Kagura felt accustomed too, even though she could not remember seeing it before. With each hit he landed, a fragment of their past appeared in her mind. She did know this man. She had fought with him many times, which was a benefit to both of them; they often used these times as a means of stress relief. She managed to swing around and kick the man hard in the leg, producing a loud crack. Seeing the man's pained, tearful expression as his leg broke, reminded her of something. With a smirk on her face, she spoke "oi, sadist… That is the second time I have done that, yes? You should have been able to block it."
"W- what?" He asked, unsure of what she meant by her statement.
"It seems your memory is worse than mine, yes? Do you not recall me hurting your leg like that in the Yagyuu arc?"
"Yeah, right after I-," he began but was cut off.
"Broke my wrist, you brat!"
"It was already injured, I just made it worse," he said nonchalantly. "But how do you know that?"
"I just remembered, yes?"
"Do you… do you remember me?"
"Not everything, but I do remember something in particular, uh-huh!"
"What is it?"
"I love seeing you suffer too, yes?"
Thud. Suddenly the sadistic police officer's body was knocked back by a purple parasol. The man landed painfully, but a smirk appeared on his face nonetheless. She was back to normal… Well, as normal as the cerulean eyed Yato could get.
Author's Note:
A random update appeared! Hello, sorry about the wait… again. . Super busy at school at the moment. Also, sorry about how ridiculously short every chapter is… I'm not good with the whole lengthy chapter thing. -_-
I did manage to update my other Okikagu fic earlier this week too, feel free to check it out. It's called A Mission Between Rivals.
Hope you are enjoying this fic so far. I don't like writing Okita as I cannot write him in character (which is why the first chapter of this was the best one hahahahaha)
Thanks for reading and for all of your lovely reviews! You guys are honestly the best.
