Kagura sat quietly in the closet that she used as a bedroom, despite being a bit too tall for it now. She was still confused by the day she had, still confused by Okita Sougo. Who was he to her? Why did fighting with him seem so familiar? She had remembered fighting him in the past, but that didn't make sense. She was supposed to be gentle, right? So maybe Gin and Shinpachi did lie to her, but why? Did they hate how she was before? If she was that awful before, why was this Okita Sougo idiot trying to get her back to normal? Not that his opinion mattered, she had told him she never wanted to see him again... So why did she feel the urge to march right down to the Shinsengumi Headquarters and continue where they had left off? Not that she was even that in the mood to fight anymore, she just wanted someone to yell at so she could vent her frustrations about this confusing situation. Surely, the polite girl Gin-chan talked about wouldn't feel so angry? Nothing was making sense, but she would most certainly get to the bottom of it.

"Oi, Kagura, you home?" Gintoki called as he and Shinpachi entered the Yorozuya office.

"Yes," the redhead, before adding in a hushed tone, "if I really am the 'Kagura' you speak of anyway."

"Did you have a good day?" Shinpachi asked, concerned from her tone.

"It was fantastic," she yelled, "despite being attacked by a complete stranger and being told that the two of you lied to me about who I am, yes?" At this point, the two men heard the closet door open and loud stomps as she approached the living room.

"Uhh, Kagura-chan, are you okay?" asked the man in glasses as he was lifted up by the front of his keikogi by the girl.

"No, I am not okay," she replied, irritated. "Now tell me who this 'Okita Sougo' brat is and why he thinks he knows me better than you two, yes?"

"Ehh, Pattsuan, that name rings a bell," Gintoki said from behind them. "Ah, does she mean Sofa-kun?"

"Yes, Okita-san," Shinpachi said with a sigh. "We may have forgotten to tell you about him… He's a member of the Shinsengumi."

"I know that," she retorted. "Why is he so horrible to me?"

"He's a sadist," Gin explained. "And a tax thief. There's no real need for you to know him."

Shinpachi, who Kagura had finally put down, gave the silver haired samurai a disgruntled look. "Gin-san, she's going to end up bumping into him anyway. He's a big character in the manga."

"True," Gin replied. "He did beat you in the character polls."

Kagura's irritated expression finally broke a little and she let out a laugh. "Wow, that idiot beat you in the character poll. You really are a useless megane, yes?"

"He beat you as well, Kagura-chan," Shinpachi mumbled.

"As if that dumb brat could beat me, uh-huh!"

"Uhhh-," he began to reply but was interrupted by Gintoki.

"So what did Soichirou-kun tell you?" Gin said, realising that their plan to get Kagura to do more housework and eat less might get foiled. He'd have to get Shinpachi to do the housework again and he always complained about Gin and Kagura's laziness while he cleaned… Plus, Kagura was going to be furious if she found out the truth.

"He said I was violent," she said slowly, staring at her boss. "And I'm scared he was right. We fought and it felt natural… But you said I was gentle, yes? But if I'm gentle, why do I want to punch that dumb brat in his stupid face?"

Gin frowned. "Well, it's only natural to want to punch those tax robbers. Plus, I'm sure he was rude to you. Even the gentlest person can want to fight sometime. One time, I ate a parfait and it hurt my teeth because it was too cold. I never expect sweets to hurt me, but sometimes they do."

"Eh, Gin-san, are you comparing Kagura-chan to a parfait? I'm not sure that anecdote makes sense," Shinpachi interjected.

"What I'm saying is, nobody is perfect all of the time."

"Are you saying that or are you just hungry? You're drooling."

"That's besides the point. Kagura, you are my polite and gentle daughter, and you can't help it if that guy brings the worst out in you."
"I knew he was wrong," Kagura said, beaming. "I knew you wouldn't lie to me, Gin-chan, uh-huh!" She hugged her boss quickly and then skipped off into the kitchen to begin making dinner.

"Um, Gin-san, don't you think it might have been a good idea to confess our lie then and there? She's going to kill us when she finds out we tricked her," Shinpachi whispered to his boss.

"Hopefully, she won't find out," Gin replied. "Besides, I think it's imperative to this fanfiction that we keep the deception going a bit longer so that the idiot author can squeeze as much angst as possible out of this dumb plot."

Meanwhile, Okita Sougo sat in silence in his room, staring down at his broken leg. He was in disbelief that she still didn't remember him after they had fought. That fight had made him feel like she was back, it had been so familiar. Well, until she asked if he was okay. That was weird. He blushed slightly, it felt nice to hear her be concerned about his wellbeing, but that wasn't what he liked about hanging around with her. He liked how evenly matched they were, he liked being able to get his frustrations out. Not that he liked her of course, that would be absurd. She had gotten better looking though, thinking about her shapely figure. "But this personality she's putting on… It's not China," he mumbled. And he was going to get his rival back to normal.

"Oi Sougo, did you say something?" Hijikata said, having been walking past Okita's room.

"Are you eavesdropping? Die Hijikata, you bastard," the sandy-haired policeman answered, pulling a bazooka out of thin air.
