Chapter 7

Leo's pov

I could not believe it, we blew it big time.

Why, oh why did I allow my brothers to persuade me into attacking the Shredder down at the docks? Now we lost a very talented allied, but also now we have no way to gather information about the foot and the potential partnership has been thrown down the drain.

Now she also has a personal vendetta against us. I should have seen the possible outcome; I should have known that this was a possibility. I should have enforced my position as a leader and put my foot down. Now I just don't have any idea what I am supposed to do.

"Leonardo." The sound of my father voice brought me back to the current moment. I had been sitting the tree trying to meditate, but whatever I tried it always ended with me thinking back on what happened earlier today.

"I am sorry father, the mission was a complete failure." I said bowing my head in shame.

"It appears that you made a mistake, however you are all still here, you are safe and no one knows where we are." He placed a hand on my shoulder and I looked up and saw those burnt orange eyes that held wisdom way beyond my years. Master splinter wasn't a young man anymore, and at times I wonder just how old his soul was, he had seen so much tragedy and had not only his loved ones taken from him but also his humanity.

"But sensei we just created another enemy. Just think about what possibilities could have been if Karai had been on our side." I said once again repeating in my mind what I have already commented and criticized myself for.

"Yes I see, you would have a talented kunoichi to help you when in need. However remember that a kunoichi is also a very talented ninja, trained in the art of deceit. One would not know just how long her loyalty towards you would have lasted." I nodded, he warned us before about it.

"The fact that Shredder has a daughter… just, I don't know baffles me. I mean if he already had someone why did he fight you about Tang Shen?" I said hoping that my father could state my curiosity. To answer how someone like Karai could share blood with a demon in human form.

"That I cannot answer, he could also have taken someone under his wing. I have told you many times that Oroku Saki and I grew up as brothers, my father took him under his wing and trained both of us in the art of ninjutsu. Perhaps there still is a part of that friend I once knew deep inside of him, I however do not dare to hope. I lost my brother in that fire too." Splinter said looking at the family photo that he kept in the dojo. Of the woman he loved and the daughter he never really got to know. That one night, everything he ever wanted broke and shattered like glass against concrete.

"Father….." I said hoping that I could somehow get the question out right.

"Yes Leonardo."

"Do you ever wish you could have undone what happened?"

"I have, many times. I have wished that I never struck Saki that day, but I cannot change the past, neither can you, I know you wish you could have trusted Karai like you intended,, but if you had perhaps you would have questioned why you agreed on the terms. The life of the ninja is far from simple. You may have taught you all you can, but I have however not taught you everything you need to know."

"Then will we learn that?" I asked hoping that sensei at least could give us a clue to what was waiting for us, at times it really makes me realize just how childish we are, the world is a big scary place and at times I feel just as helpless as I did back when I was a child.

"The missing lessons are unfortunately not something I can teach you, you will have to learn from what you have experienced, these are lessons you will have to discover on your own. For fifteen years I have watched you grow and I am proud of what you are. You might need some time to find your way to lead but it will come to you one day." Sensei's voice was smooth and comforting, the sagely advices brought just as much confusion as help, one had too think for oneself what they meant.

"BOYAKASHA! NEW HIGH SCORE!" The comforting peace shattered by my brother's noisy shout. Mikey apparently beat his old score and we were going to hear about this for the next few hours.

"It appears that Michelangelo is done cleaning his room." Sensei said I however doubted it, If Donnie ever wanted to discover a new species of mold, Mikey's room was probably the first place to go. Both of us rose from the floor looking in the direction of the loud sound.

"What did Mikey say about giving Nitya our numbers?" I asked curiously, since Master Splinter talked to Mikey alone neither me, Raph or Donnie heard what was said. We only knew that his punishment was 100 flips cleaning the bathroom and his bedroom. His bedroom was punishment enough.

"He wished to have a friend of his own. Even if his wants are understandable I wish he would embrace his life as a ninja and understand that this life is our cross to bear." Splinter said he had a light frown on his face I couldn't tell if it was directed at Mikey's action to try to get to know more humans or if it was for the fact that sensei had to keep his social butterfly of a son a secret. Our feet moved in slow steps moving away from the magnificent tree.

"So what are we supposed to do about her?" I asked, unlike April this girl had no reason to stick around. Donnie was still on his theory. But so far nothing has happened to her since our encounter with the Kraang outside Murakami's shop.

"We will keep an eye on her for now. If it turns out she is just like this Chris Bradford then make sure that she cannot contact any of you, she has already seen part of our lair."

"True, isn't that why you insisted on Raph carrying her blindfolded up to the surface?" It was quite hilarious Raph was cussing the whole way up to the surface his entire face was on fire saying things like how annoying it was, and that I should be carrying her because I convinced him to take her underground with us.

"It was for our own safety, had she memorized the way down here she might have come on her own accord."

"And if she told anyone she could have lead them here directly to us."

"Yes."

"What do you suggest that we do?"

"Our first priority is the Kraang, the Shredder might be dangerous but we are his only targets. The Kraangs intentions are still unknown, we need to keep an eye on them."

"Will do Master Splinter." I said with a bow. He opened the shogi door that lead into his private room.

"Oh and Leonardo, keep an eye on Michelangelo, I do not know if he would heed my advice and we do not need another innocent person involved in this." Splinter said as he closed the shogi doors. I was left staring at the painted scene in front of me. Sensei was right, if we kept reaching for humans we would just bring them into this mess. This was no game I realized that when we met Shredder that night, there are no extra life or immortality potion that you can use. If you go down you will not get back up again, ever.

"Hai, Sensei"
