Chapter two.

Dick's POV

My breaths became laboured as I finally came to a halt. My shoes, although specially designed to allow for excessive use had started to chafe against my feet. I gathered my remaining strength and as fast as I could, started my cycle and barrelled towards Bludhaven. I needed to get as much distance between me and Batman, I needed to get my most needed necessities and get as far away from Manhattan as fast as I could.

As soon as my sharp eyes spotted my apartment building, I screeched to a halt, my tyres smoking from the heat of the friction. I slyly hid my black and red cycle in the nearest alley. Much like the one I had just murdered a man. Oh God what if he was a father? I had just caused some poor innocent child to feel the grief and anger that I felt when my parents were murdered. Why was I such a failure at everything I do? I'm no hero, I'm a monster.

I stalked in the shadows till I managed to find a path to my open window, away from any prying eyes. As soon as my steel toed boots touched the carpet of my cluttered living room I knew something was up. The room was deathly cold and silent. I was the only one in my house but I couldn't help but be paranoid. I rushed to my room and tore off the blood soaked garments that adorned my body. As I threw them into a black sac I noticed a dark bruise forming on the rights side if my chest. I couldn't remember getting hit there, but everything was such a blur, my mind was like a whirlwind clouding my mind. All common sense had escaped my mind and replaced itself with impulsive actions.

I shoved some spare clothes into a black travel case I had hidden under my bed. I got some money in cash, not one of my cards so I couldn't be so easily traced, toothbrush and some tinned food. I felt bitter bile burn in the back of my throat as I washed my hands free from that man's blood. Who even was he? Did he really deserve to die in a cold alley by the hands of a so called hero?

I crashed my train of thought as a loud knock filled the emptiness of my room. Knocks like heartbeats sounded from my white door. I swallowed deeply, quietly I tiptoed forward, cautious to make any sound in case I alert my visitor that I was home. I reached the door in record time and placed my eye to the glass peep hole fixed in my door. I didn't see a face like I thought, all I saw was a tuff of wild red hair. Why would Wally come to me? He had left around six weeks ago and had lost all contact with me and the team. Well I was just going to pussyfoot around this. I waited with my heart in my mouth as I waited for him to grow bored and leave. It were as if my prayers were answered as not even 30 seconds later he was gone in a flurry of red. For a retired hero, he sure didn't want to let go of the powers.

I grabbed my bag and picked up my keys (although I never intended to use them again after today) and opened the door. I walked down the stairs and tried to not draw attention to myself. I walked to the Cab service and waited for a taxi to take me to the airport. Whilst I sat on the wooden bench that felt like I was sitting on needles, I checked my phone for flights. I found a cheap flight to London. The only remaining seats were in first class but that didn't really bother me. I had already transferred money into a hidden account so I could pay for an apartment near Tower Hill. There was even a vacancy for a police officer to work nights. This was perfect for me, why hadn't I ever thought about England before now?

My Cab arrived not long after I booked my flights and hotel. I placed my bag into the trunk and entered the car. I immediately regretted that decision as the overwhelming stench of vomit and sweat burn at my nose. I smiled through gritted teeth to the driver.

"Where are you heading this early in the morning?" he asked not unkindly

"Gotham airport please." I replied. Oh did I forget to mention that Gotham was the closest airport. This could either go great or like a moth and a fire.

We sat in silence for the entirety of the journey, something I was grateful for. I watch in a nostalgic way as we passed familiar places. I felt a sense of dread building my stomach. What if someone came looking for me? I concocted a plan whilst I looked like I was playing on my phone. I would call Wally and Tim, tell them not to look for me and to not try to ever make contact with Nightwing either.

As the car pulled into the drop off zone I paid the fare and entered the airport lobby. I used change from my pocket and called Wally's number. It went straight to answerphone… well here goes nothing.

"eer… hey Wally, it's me , Dick. I'm going away for a while and I probably won't come back. If you know what happened then you will know why but I can't tell you why now. Please don't look for me and don't call back. Say thank you to Bruce for me, I can't face him again. Goodbye KF."

I went to dial Tim's number when the phone timed me out. I had no more change and I Had to leave now to be able to board my flight. So I made the conscious decision to turn ad leave. With that I entered security. I couldn't turn back now. This was it, I broke the bat code and I was paying the price. No wonder Bruce kept replacing me, I could never be good enough.

I took the back off of my phone and removed my memory card. Threw the rest into the bin. I needed a new start and a new origin. I could be traced and there is no telling what Bruce, or Alfred would do to me if they knew what I had done. I was no longer Richard Grayson. I don't even know who he is anymore.
