Chapter 9
Mikey's pov
"Nine bots of Kraang in the room, nine bots of kraang
You take one out, it's so much fun
Now you have eight bots of Kraang in the room
Eight bots of Kraang in the room, eight bots of Kraang,
You take one out, it's so much fun
Now you have seven bots of kraang in the room." I sang as I kept knocking down the Kraang bots.
"Mikey you sing another verse I am going to take YOU out!" My red-clad older brother shouted back in his usual fashion.
"You have no sense of humor." I pouted. My brothers can be real sticks in the mud from time to time.
"Guys!" Leo shouted annoyed. He sliced the head of another droid.
"Yeah, yeah, we hear you Leo." Raph grunted. Raph tossed another throwing star hitting the center of a Kraangdroids head. With another backflip I landed behind another droid that soon was floored by my amazing nun-chuck skills.
Ever since April came to stay down in the lair Splinter has been even stricter about us being at our best behavior. That meant that I was not allowed to prank them as I saw fit or belch the alphabet, or runaround the lair or anything that sensei did not deem proper behavior. It was seriously becoming boring down there. This is how I unwind. Like Donnie said it is 'therapeutic' and Raph has the same idea. But his opinion is often voiced much cruder.
The Kraang began to feel the heat, and tried to avoid us getting any closer. Too bad they were about to taste my nun-chuck- fury.
"Kraang, The turtles have done what is known as overwhelm Kraang." One of the droids stated backing away from me and my brothers.
"Kraang shall do what is known as retreat." Said one of the still functioning bots.
"That, which is known as good idea, Kraang will do." With that the other five retreated, and vanished before we had a chance to follow.
"Damn it, where did they go." Leo said looking everywhere for the escapees.
"They are too scared to fight us. Seriously I am staring to think they have run out of ideas." Raph grumbled, disappointed that the fun was over so soon.
"With that high technology, I doubt it." Donnie said more to himself than Raph.
" We'll it seems that we will have an early night then. Let's head home then." Leo said his swords sheathed and already moving towards the closest manhole cover.
"Wow wow, slow down there. We have a few hours to ourselves, so why not use it, and don't tell me you just want to watch that re-run of space dorks." My second oldest brother
"For your information it is a midnight special with bonus features." Leo said back in defense only to be met with most of us smirking and trying to keep our laughter to ourselves.
"Oh! I know where to go! It is SUPER!" I shouted as a brilliant, mind-blowing idea entered my mind.
"Aright, I can be reckless for tonight." Raph said in his normal cocky voice.
"You are always reckless Raph." Leo shot back without missing a beat. With that we soared through the rooftops of the big Apple. Speed and agility was our specialty, and no one could possibly rival us in our agility and speed just to name a few things. Whoever said turtles where slow?
"We are here!" I stated in glee. As we landed on the rooftop.
"A dance studio, why are we even here?" Raph asked annoyed.
"Com'on I just want to have a peak, please, please please." I said begging like a dog. I really wanted to see this place, after having heard it on the news. Some of those kids had awesome moves. Perhaps not as awesome as yours truly but man they sure know how too breakdance.
"Urgh, fine but just a few minutes." Leo finally caved and fasten than one could say 'GO' I was by the huge roof window looking at the participants. There had to be about twenty people down there. Just as the teacher turned on the music there was a short moment where nothing before the beat of the music came on and all of the dancers 'came to life'. It was amazing, they were so aware about where the others where and could in seconds go into a split while another one jumped over them from behind. Ohh I should try that one in battle some time. Perhaps I could talk my bros into trying some of those moves.
"Mikey, move, you are hogging the entire window." Raph hissed and shoved me to make more room for himself.
"I thought you didn't want to be here." I said teasingly.
"I'd rather see what the fuss is about than just see your dumb mug pasted against the window."
"I got to say they are quite good." Donnie said from above me, being the tallest must have a lot of pros. Suddenly all of the other dancers cleared the floor and a sole dancer stepped up to the half circle the guy suddenly went into downrock, then a six step and while his hands balanced him his footwork was crazy, he then made a pike, then an L- kick and then bounce back to his feet by using arm strength and another one entered the 'stage'.
"Dude do you see that?" I asked in amazement.
"Yes Mikey, we saw that." Raph said even if he sounded annoyed I could hear there was some interest in his voice. Leo that was on the opposite side of me had a goofy smile on his face. However the show did not last forever and soon the music stopped and the dances gave off shouts of joy and applauds. Suddenly one of the dancers in the back turned his attention to our window before he could do a double take we were gone from his view.
"That was too close." Leo said now by the edge of the building. After a few seconds we were confident enough that no one was watching and we left our hiding place.
"So now that we have seen that, can we please head home now?" Leo asked in a firm tone.
"Missing your captain fearless?" Raph mocked the slightly taller turtle. And once again the two of them began to argue. I could hear Donnie sigh and make himself comfortable leaning against the side of the rooftop. I let them have a go, after all if someone interrupted it would end up dragging on longer.
I had my back turned to him and focused on the main entrance where a gathering of student soon left and one of them was very familiar. Joy spread through my system, this must be my lucky night.
"Hey that's Nitya, better go say hello!" I said as I darted from my brothers' side. Even if I had not physically seen her for a few weeks, I did talk to her every other day. She would gladly hug me if I surprised her, after all who does not like surprises?
"Mikey wait!" Was all that I could hear Leo say. It was a piece of cake to get down to the last ladder, now all I had to do was wait till the perfect moment, after all Dr. Prankenstein was a master of timing. Just as she turned the corner I knew it was time.
"HI NITYA!" I shouted in surprised hanging upside down appearing just millimeters from her face.
"GAAH!"I felt a something heavy connect with the side of my head. Causing me to lose my balance and let go of the fire escape causing me to land quite painfully on the ground.
"Michelangelo?" Her surprised voice asked.
"OW, what is in that bag of yours?" Whatever it was, it felt like a punch from Dogpound. I felt a pair of smaller hands grab hold of mine and pull me up so that I was sitting.
"I'm so sorry, are you alright?" She asked now squatting down. So that we were face to face. Big black eyes filled with worry. Her backpack laid beside her and a thick book could be seen though the opened zipper, along with dark clothes.
"It takes a bit more than that to take down me." I stated proudly, while my head was still throbbing painfully.
"You had that one coming, you know." Raph stated as he landed beside us. A small squeak erupted from Nitya as he did. I could hear both Donnie and Leo land a bit more into the alleyway probably so that people would not see them.
"Hey don't pick on the injured." I said annoyed.
"You caused that yourself. I can pick on you all I like." The smug smile of the one and only Raphael.
"Nice hit, by the way." He turned and said giving an offhanded compliment to Nitya. She looked disturbed by the compliment. I blew a raspberry at my brother. Yeah so what if it was childish the guy deserved it.
"Sorry about that Nitya, we did not mean to bother you, Mikey just can't help himself at times." Leo said as is he was waiting for Nitya to start yelling at him.
"It was more that he frightened me. After what happened at the noodle shop, I have been a bit... skittish." She said in hopes of explaining her actions.
"No need to explain it away, anyone would be paranoid after meeting the Kraang." Donnie said in a helpful and calm manner. But that might not stick for the rest of the night. If Leo did not lecture men I can be sure that either Raph or Donnie would gladly fill in for him.
"Still that was a very foolish thing to do Mikey, what if it had been a complete stranger!" Leo said turning his attention back to me.
"Urh, I needed to unwind, I am being bored to tears down there, and I can't even prank anyone at home." I groaned loudly.
"That is a relief." Raph mumbled.
"It is just for a while Mikey." Leo said trying to comfort me.
"But still." I whines.
"They do have a point. Perhaps small harmless, pranks are alright in small doses." Nitya tried to reason.
"See." I puffed up my chest proudly.
"She also said small doses, not daily." Raph shot back.
"So what are you doing here? It is quite late."
"Our instructor asked if we could stay for about another hour, we have been practicing for an event that is coming up."
"Really, what are you going to do?"
"It is just a friendly competition between different studios."
"You can have 'friendly' and 'competition' in the same sentence?" Rapahel snarked.
"Not with you at least." Leo said eye slightly narrowed. Both Donnie and I nodded in agreement on that statement. Raph returned that with a scowl but said nothing.
"Some however are very determined to win it and missing the point of the entire thing." She said keeping to the subject at hand.
"So what are you dancing?" Donnie asked curiously, trying to keep the conversation light.
"It is mostly modern dance but we do drabble into mixer dance from time to time." She said, clearly not use to having all the attention on her.
"Do you have a name?" Leo asked.
"Promise that you won't laugh." The girl asked sheepishly. We all nodded, master Splinter preaches about respect and control more often than not.
"We are called the Manhattan Silver shoes." My older brother just gave a look that more or less question if she was messing with them.
"People take that name seriously?" Raph could not keep that comment to himself.
"Raph." If Leo was a robot he would probably say something like 'lecture mode activated'.
"What? It is a silly name." The red banned turtle shook his shoulders not seeing the problem in his statement.
"Yeah, but you don't have to tell her that." I said in her defense and was met with Donnie giving me a stink eye. Whoops.
"Sorry Nitya." I said rubbing the back of my neck. Big embraced grim pasted across my face.
"It's alright. I better get moving. My parents will wonder where I am if I take too long." She said voice still sweet and kind.
"Urgh." I groaned, it sucked that we always had to keep out time talking with friends above ground short unless we were hidden somewhere.
"We better get moving as well." Leo stated.
"Double, urgh." I groaned.
"Mikey. Act your age." Leo said more firmly.
"Don't worry. We can still keep in touch." She said as she rose to leave.
"See you soon." I said smiling widely. All of us waved to say good bye.
"Have a nice night, the four of you." She said before she turned and walked away. Her backpack once again on its place and she disappeared behind the corner.
"Can you get of your shell now?" Raph snarked as soon as she was out of earshot.
"Maybe I will." I said standing up. Ignoring my older brother's comment.
"Now let's go."
"Fine fearless. We are coming." My red clad brother agreed.
"Finally." Leo said giving a sigh of relief and opened the manhole.
"First one home." Raph said jumping in and slid down the ladder.
"Wait." Leo said as he quickly jumped after him. Before I had a chance to jump I felt a hand grab hold of my upper arm.
"So what did we learn today?" Donnie said looking at me with his brown eyes. He released his hold now that he had my attention.
"Don't scare girls with heavy backpacks?" I said and quickly I jumped into the hole.
"Close enough." I heard Donnie mumble as he closed the lid and we made our way home.
