Nitya

Nitya's POV

Ever since my first meeting with the four turtles. I've had this strange feeling. Seeing those creatures the night they tried to kidnap me, and again during that Friday night at Murakami's Noodle Shop has put seeds of dread in me. If they are after my father they had yet to make a move. No matter how I try to suppress it fear is seeping into my mind. Those two encounters that I got out of where strikes of luck. The boys had managed to disorient the robots and get us down using smoke bombs and I had been lucky that the water tower was so close to the roof they were fighting on and that the force was enough to wash them of the building.

Both my parents and grandparents have been giving me worried looks ever since my skittish behavior started. Not that I blame them. At least it was comforting to know that my siblings are still oblivious to it. But then again they might just keep quiet to not make me more worried. Asha might only be six years old but she picks up on these things fairly quick.

No matter what I do or how much I try to stop thinking about it, the thoughts about a possible war going on in the city beyond the publics knowledge is not a good thing. Who knows how many have gone missing or more horribly died because of these robotic creatures. I twist and turn in vain trying to get some rest, but I was soon interrupted by the sound of my phones I flipped open the old phone and saw one of the newest numbers that I added.

"Hello?" I said in a very soft voice in order to not wake up anyone.

"Hey Nitya." Came a cheerful voice from my phone.

"Mikey what's wrong?" I asked. It was two in the morning and he should have been asleep. But then again so should I.

"Oh, nothing, nothing, just um. I'm wondering if you have time? I really need to talk to you." His tone was wavering. Alarm bells went off in my head

"Mikey, did something happen? You sound scared."

"Nothing can scare a turtle, we are made of the hard stuff." Even if he was trying to convince me that nothing was wrong, the entire fact that he called me this time of night spoke that his current situation was far from 'fine'.

"Mikey, I need you to tell me what is wrong. I will not judge you." I sat up in bed leaning back to the wall and prepared myself for any possible scenario that could have distraught him.

"It is kind of weird. " He said a bit hesitant.

"Go on." I gently encouraged him.

"Wellmybrothersgotstungbyamutatedwaspthatinfectedthemwithvenomthatmadethemcrazyandprotectiveofthebabywaspthatwaslatergoingtoeatthem, butDfoundtheantidote but Ihadtowatchhimturn andhebitme and I almostturnedintoawaspzombie." The orange waring turtle spoke so fast that I could barely make out what he was saying, this boy has a big set of lungs.

"Alright, Mikey speak a bit slower. Now how did you get infected by those things?" I said trying to gather any information from the turtle. From what I have interacted with Mikey he is very sweet but he is not known for being very focused or cautious. But if I could help him I would even if he just needed to vent some stress or someone to talk to.

"We went to a Kraang place but it was pretty wrecked and there we found this huge wasp about the size of a cat and it did not like us at all. But it stung Leo and when we came back home Leo went into full-blooded guard dog mood and did not even want us in the same room as the egg. We tried pizza, his comics but nothing. That's when things became creepy, suddenly Raph started acting the same because Leo bit him and they tried to bite us too. Then there was this all out brawl where Leo and Raph attacked us, Raph ran away with the egg and Leo got chained up. D however got bitten and didn't finish making the antidote before he became crazy too. So I had to do it while I was infected to. Donnie bit me shortly after he changed. It was terrifying and then the egg hatched and the wasps were all like "we want to eat you" but I was like "no way" and I defeated the ugly bugs by using the garbage cannon on the Shellraiser."

"Weren't your teacher with you during the time?" I distinctly remember that they had a teacher or master. What was it again? It started with an S that I am sure of.

"No Master Splinter was out for the evening. So it was just us."

"Did you tell Master Splinter about what happened?"

"Nah, I mean it has already happened why make him worry and forbid us from leaving the lair?"

"Mikey are you having nightmare about the incident?" I asked, pretty sure that it was the reasons behind him calling me. Some boys did not like telling others that they had a nightmare, judging by the fact that Michelangelo is considered the youngest, he probably do not want do anything that would cement that he is childish even if something as normal as nightmares, especially after something that could only have been considered scary and traumatic. Imagining my family suddenly turning into zombie like creatures and be alone through it, I would have nightmare too.

"Maybe." He said trying to sound nonchalant.

"What can I do to help you Mikey?" He probably just needed an open mind, someone that wasn't involved in what had happened.

"I don't know, just talk?"

"Alright then."

"So what where you up to?"

"My day has been alright. It's been kind of slow, I went to school, hung out with my friends came home and spent the rest of the day at home studying."

"Sounds kind of boring."

"Compare to what you do, it probably does." I said giving a shy smile.

"What is it like? I mean school? Do you start dancing and singing like they do in the movies?"

"Sorry Mikey, nothing as exciting as that. But we learn a lot of things, we get homework, school parties, group assignments, we get to meet a lot of different people and preparing for the future."

"Sounds like D would have loved that place."

"Have you ever asked him?"

"I tried but whenever we mention school, museum or libraries he gets this weird look on his face, like someone ate his last pizza." I sighed from what I have gathered from all the turtles, the tallest one Donnie was the most science interested of them all. So him potentially wanting to go to those places was no stretch of the imagination, but he could not because of what he was. All of them probably had something they wanted but couldn't do because of how they looked.

"How about you then?"

"It sounds kind of stiff and not all that fun. But I would have really wanted to dance like those guys did at your dance studio. It was so cool, I have been practicing some of those moves even putting my own spin on them. I bet they have never seen moves like mine." He sounded happy of not slightly smug about that fact.

"I'll keep that in mind when I see them next time."

"So how are you Sliver shoes doing?"

"Everything is going great, we still have a lot to work on especially when it moves into the partner dance, it takes some time to dance with just a partner so timing six pairs to do the same steps at the same time can be a bit difficult." The last time we practiced we kept bumping into each other, if anything can snap you out of the dance it is colliding with another dancer.

We spent at least another half an hour talking before a strange sound came out of phone.

"Kkkrrrrrrr, Krrrrrrrrrrrr."

"Mikey?" I said trying to get a response. Hearing a soft grunt and then the continuation of the sound only meant one thing. He was already asleep.

"Sweet dreams on you too." I said jokingly. Turning off the phone and I was able to sleep.

That however did not last long before a very familiar voice came up and began using my bed as a trampoline.

"Nitya, breakfast! Breakfast! Breakfast!"

"Urrh, 5 more minutes." I said hoping that my youngest sister would leave me be.

"But all the pancakes will be cold."

"I'll have some later."

"Grammy won't let us have it all of us are not here. Com'on even Surya is going to be here." At the mention of my oldest brother I did sat up. He doesn't come home much anymore so whenever he is here the least I can do is greet him.

"Dadi really hates that title, you know."

"So?"

"Never mind, is everyone already up?"

"Yep, even Aseem is ready. That means you'll have to take a cold shower." Tara said a bit amused by that predicament.

"And Uttama?" I murmured rubbing the sand out of my eyes.

"Yes him too." It was important to know when you had several siblings. Otherwise someone would be irritated when left out.

"Alright give me a few minutes." With that my little sister hurried away to the table. After fixing myself up I made the way to the dinner table that was cramped with people. Then again ten people and one table did take some room. Pancakes disappeared like magic but then again when two of your siblings eat like wolves that tends to happen, no matter how much their grandmother lectures them.

"Ah Nitya, there you are." Surya said shooting a big smile in my direction. Even if his skin was dark I could see the subtle stubble forming on his lower cheeks. I smiled happy to see him again.

"Good morning, have you slept well?" Mother asked in the same warm soothing tone. Golden bangles clicked as she moved gracefully bringing another plate to the table.

"Somewhat." I said covering my mouth as a massive yawn made its way out. I took my seat next to my grandfather, he shot me a friendly smile. He was not much of a talker, but the wrinkly face and those warm chestnut eyes always made me in a better mood.

"I do hope that you are not up in the middle of the night playing games, you need your sleep." Dadi said directing her firm almost coal like eyes at me. She was the oldest one here, her hair was silvery and her skin wrinkly but she was not a frail little woman. If not for her and dada, the Kapoor children would have run the house, probably.

"I won't." I said in a chipper tone.

"Maa, let her be."

"Aruna I am just looking out for your daughter." Dadi said firmly.

"Much appreciated, but I think right now. She just wants breakfast. " He said placing a plate with pancakes with jam and vanilla sugar on it. I greedily at as conversations buzzed around me. Everything form business, to politics, to school was thrown around. Voices merged and became more of a soothing mumble. Suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder I looked and saw my grandfather gently gesturing with his head that I should go back to my room. I nodded, leaving the table while they were still a bit preoccupied.

"Shukriya." I whispered into his ear.

"Chinta mat karo." He replied in his raspy tone.

I went straight back and laid on my bed, my eyes drifting shut. It would only be a little while, perhaps 15 minutes. Just resting my eyes for a bit, so I traveled to sweet oblivion.

It was the sound of someone knocking on the door that woke me from my slumber.

"Come in." I said rubbing my eyes.

"Nitya may I have a moment with you." My father asked as he entered the room.

"Of course." I sat up giving him space to sit down on the bed with me. Big dark eyes looked at me with worry.

"I see you have been stressed as of late, at first I thought you were just worried about your homework but it has become clear that there is something else happening. Care to tell me what it is?"

"It is a bit complicated. These strange sightings that has happened these last couple of months, I just feel that there is something going on."

" I know, I have been listening to them too. Rumors have it that some scientist have been receiving some sort of genetic enhancers. But then again wagging tongues do not often investigate the source before spreading it. "

"Aren't they your colleges?"

"They are, just because they are professors doesn't mean they always think things through, just 99% of the time." At that a small smile spread across my lips.

"Papa."

"Yes?"

"Do you think there is more in the world than what we assume?" He did look a bit puzzled at me but did not back down from the question.

"I believe that, there is a lot of things that we do not know. Both as a species and as individuals. But that is life, we learn every day that we know so little. We know more about space than our own ocean, so there is still a lot for us to discover and learn." He said in the smooth tone that could only be compared to honey.

"Do you think there are others like us, I mean in space?" Thinking if I should clue him in.

"I don't doubt it. But I can't promise you that we are the same. What brought this on?"

"I haven't been sleeping well, so I have been doing a lot of thinking lately." I said giving away just a small part of what I have been trying to cope with.

"Aren't you a bit young for an existential crisis?" He joked raising one of his thick dark eyebrows with a smirk on those lips.

"Papa." I said trying to send him a dirty look that was not successful at all.

"You do know if something is bothering you, you can talk to me about anything." He said placing his hand on my head stroking it gently.

"Thank you."

"Anytime. Perhaps you should take a walk and clear your thoughts. Perhaps even a nap?"

"Sounds like a plan." I said as he rose from the bed. Still unsure if I should tell him about the mutants that saved me a few weeks ago.

"Papa."

"Yes?" He said looking back at me. But then I decided against it.

"Nevermind." With that he closed the door.

The wind was chilling, even the trees of Central Park could not block it out entirely. The branches still devoid of life and everywhere I looked I felt both watched and alone. I couldn't wait for spring to return, for the warmth of life and the sound of the birds that would fill the sky.

"Hey Nitya." The slightly hesitant voice was much to calm to be the vibrant Michelangelo, this was the tallest of them, Donnie.

"Donnie, is something wrong?" I asked I kept walking making sure that no one was following me or close enough to hear my conversation. If one of the other brothers where contacting me then it might be something important.

"I just wanted to say thank you for doing that for Mikey." He said sincerely. It was kind of sweet that he said it, but he shouldn't put himself in danger of being tracked just to thank me.

"How is everything really?" Hoping that he could give me an insight to what was happening around the city. The feeling in my gut told me that something was going to happen. I just needed some idea of what could be heading towards us.

"Things have been weird, we do not know what Kraang is planning, and we just know that one of our friends are in danger. But we do not know what the Kraang are up to, only that it is not good." I felt my brows raise in worry and I lightly bit the inside of my cheek before asking him again.

"There has been no sign of them since the night at Murakami, do you think they are still after my father?"

"I don't know, we don't have all of the answers. Hopefully we can stop Kraang before they even make a move. I don't think telling your dad is a good idea. I mean he is bound to freak out or not believe you." I couldn't argue with that logic. But then again he don't know my father.

"Isn't it better to warn him and have him prepared?"

"If we can stop it before the citizens of Manhattan are affected by the Kraang then you could continue living without the knowledge of them. Sometimes it is better to be oblivious to some things." The turtle said trying to sound as confident as possible but there was hesitation in his voice.

"I don't think he will see it like that. " I said letting my free hand grab hold of my skirt, pulling and soothing the fabric.

"Is it worth risking it?"

"Maybe not." I hesitated.

"I better leave, there is a lot of things that I need to get done before tonight."

"I understand." I sensed that this call was soon over.

"Oh and Donnie." I said before he managed to end the call.

"Yeah?"

"Is any of you need someone from the outside to talk to, I'm here." I felt slightly flustered, he probably thought it was weird that I brought that up. I just wanted them to know that I was not scared of them, if I could I wanted to help them.

"Thanks…. That is really kind of you. But it is probably for the best that you don't get involved more than necessary, bad stuff follow us everywhere."

"Well if you change your mind, you have my number." I felt slightly relieved that he took it as my good intensions.

"Of course, I'll tell the guys what you said. Better tell Mikey that you don't mean 'call any time' or you'll never be left alone." A slightly awkward but endearing laugh was heard through the phone.

"That might be wise." I said a small giggle slipping through my lips.

"Good bye." He said in a much more cheerful tone.

"Good bye and good luck." I said before the call ended.

"What have I gotten myself into?" I asked myself clutching the phone like it would disappear. Something told me that those dark clouds in the sky meant more than just rain.
