Disclaimer: I do not own any Harry Potter anything
After the long holiday break the kids were all starting to come back to Hogwarts. Jordan and Hailey were waiting excitedly for their friends to come back to the school. Having most of the castle to themselves was fun and exciting for the first few days but after awhile it was getting a little repetitive and Jordan could only lose to Hailey so many times in Wizards Chess and Exploding Snap. They had kept in touch, Albus told them they had something important to share with them.
"JORDAN! HAILEY!" They both turned to look back at the doors to see their three friends running down the hall towards them. They all embraced in quick hugs and how are yous before Krash couldn't wait any longer and started to eat some more.
"So how was your Christmas?" Rose asked as she took a seat next to Christian.
"It was good, we had a lot of fun." Hailey replied to her friend with a smile as she and Rose started to chat about their holidays.
"So you said in the letter you had something to tell me Albus?" Jordan asked looking at the Potter.
Albus nodded his head at him. "We told our parents about what we saw in the tunnel. They didn't know what it was either. They were talking and your brother mentioned a Chimera."
"A Chimera? Like from Greek mythology?" Jordan asked as Albus nodded his head once again.
"Yes. The others didn't think it could be it because most of them have all died out but then they mentioned the Triwizard Tournament and how they brought in many kinds of animals. That they could have found one and brought it in. Thinking that maybe it had escaped and was dormant in a tunnel before it finally awoke again." Albus had finished his explanation with almost a whisper by the end of it.
"So you guys think that it could be a Chimera?" Jordan spoke as the three of them nodded their head.
"We tried to find some sort of information on it in the Potter library but we couldn't find anything on them." Christian answered before anyone else could. "But then Rose had an idea."
The two who spent their Christmas at Hogwarts looked over at the red head. "I thought their might be something in the library here. Possibly the restricted section."
"How would we get into the restricted section though?" Hailey asked as Albus spoke up again.
"My brother took my fathers invisibility cloak at the start of this year. If we can take it from him then we can sneak into the restricted section and find something on them. It's a small chance but it's something to go on." The other four looked down as they were all debating the plan.
"Or, and here's another idea. We could just let the adults with experience handle it since we are just kids." Christian spoke up as the other four looked at him as he had grown another head. "Alright. Just a suggestion. So we break into the library."
The plan was simple they were to take James' cloak, get into the library, find a specific book in a giant library and hopefully it could tell them what a Chimera was. So simple that there is no way it couldn't work right? Wrong. The more Jordan thought about the plan the more mental it sounded in his head. Maybe Christian was right? They should just leave it to the professionals. Then again the professionals didn't seem like they were going to help them at all.
Jordan was snapped out of his thought by being bumped in the elbow by Rose. "You look lost in thought friend." She whispered to him as they were in a History of Magic class, sure Professor Bins wouldn't even know they were talking as he was just rambling on at this point but it's better to be safe then sorry and lose points for their house.
"I'm just thinking about the plan that's all. Should we really be doing this? I mean it sounds almost impossible for us to do. The chances of us finding a book we need is going to be almost impossible." He shared his thoughts about the plan with his red headed friend.
"Albus has a plan. I trust in him. I know you do too. He wants to be able to find the Chimera and slay it. Just so he isn't Harry Potter's son. He will be Albus Potter the slayer of a Chimera." Rose explained to him as Jordan just nodded his head with her.
"Well we can't let our friend down now then can we?"
The plan was slowly being set in motion. It helped that their was a Quidditch match against Slytherin today as most people would be there watching that rivalry match. It would be easy enough for them to grab the cloak considering James wasn't exactly the smartest in hiding the cloak. It didn't take Albus long to find it hidden inside his pillow cases which turned out that James hid all of his things in his pillow case since he was a little boy.
Now came the hard part the five of them all had to move as one to not reveal themselves underneath the cloak. If one of them went the wrong way then it would show a part of them.
"Ow! Christian that was my foot!" Hailey cried out.
"Sorry." He mumbled back quickly going to turn to apologize but ended up smacking Rose in the back of the head.
"OW! Christian! Watch what you are doing!" She spoke angrily at him trying not to yell.
"I'm so sorry." He spoke again but stumbled and ran into Albus causing him to fall and everyone else with him in a heap.
"CHRISTIAN!" They all yelled at the poor boy as he lowered his head.
"I am so sorry guys."
"It's fine. Thank god we haven't even gotten a foot out the door yet." Albus spoke with a sigh.
It took them awhile but they finally figured out how to move without running into each other. They almost looked like a giant train underneath the cloak staying tight together. "I love magic." Jordan whispered as they passed by people without them noticing them at all.
Arriving at the library looking around to see that no one was in there, Rose's assumption was right as there was no one in there at all. Arriving at the gate that blocked off the restricted section Rose stuck her wand out. "Alohomora." The gates swinging open.
They shrugged off the cloak and walked in. "You know for a school that has a lot of restricted things, it really is no point when they teach that spell to first years." Christian spoke as the others nodded in agreement.
"Come on let's find that book." Albus spoke as they all spread out trying to cover as much ground as possible.
"You know there must be hundreds of books in here the chances of us finding something have to be alm-" Christian was cut off from another voice.
"Found something." Rose spoke up as Christian sighed. The other four rushed over to where she was as she laid the book out on the table.
"It's about Greek creatures. Here we go Chimeras. 'Chimeras are known to have the head of a lion, the tail of a snake and the head of a goat arising from the back. The lion head is known to breath fire, the snake can melt people's bodies with it's acid and the goat has horns impossible to break used for ramming. The Chimeras have a long history with Centaurs going to war with them. Having almost killed out all of the Chimeras as they were known to eat their young.' You think maybe the Centaurs would know if one was here?" Rose spoke up as she looked at the others. All of them shrugged their shoulders not knowing what to say.
"Is someone there?" A voice was heard as the five had a panicked look on their faces. They all frantically reached for the cloak throwing it over them quickly as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Professor Tewi walked in. "Why are these gates open? Why is there a book out? Kids I tell you, no respect for anything. Just leaving everything out." He grumbled as he started to put the book away not noticing the five kids scurrying away out of the library and back to the common room.
"That was a bloody close one!" Christian spoke excitedly as he plopped himself down on the couch. "How would we have even explained ourselves?" He was again over exaggerating most things.
"We didn't get caught but we did get valuable information. I think we can confirm that this creature is a Chimera by the way Josh was hurt when we found him. Other then that we don't know how it got in here, where it came from or even if we can kill it." Albus spoke as he sat down on the couch next to him.
"You mean we are going to go looking for it?" Hailey asked with a worried look in her eyes. "It killed a fifth year student no problem. We can't seriously be thinking about going after it."
"The more information we get on it the better. We can at least help the adults that are going to get rid of it." Rose spoke as she was pacing around the room, doing her thinking face.
"Didn't it say it battled with Centaurs? Aren't there Centaurs in the Forest?" Jordan asked, he could see everyone perk up a little as they looked over at him.
"You aren't seriously suggesting we go into the Forbidden Forest are you?" Christian quickly got off the couch to look at his friend.
"I think that's exactly what he's suggesting." Albus grinned a grin that would make his fathers god father proud.
Well now we are getting some traction. Next chapter is going to take a little step back, another lighter chapter before we start going deep. As you can tell I like to do a serious chapter that expands the plot and then a nice fun chapter just about the kids lives in Hogwarts so it's nice and easy to switch it up every once in awhile.
