I stared in the mirror for the last time and had to smile. I looked decently cute! I was wearing dark blue jeans, a white T-shirt with a black vest over it, and simple black flats. My hair was in a clip and curled around my head, giving me an almost-halo. I slapped some simple makeup on and ran down stairs.
"Ready!" I said happily.
"You do realize we're just going to a bonfire at the beach right?" Bella snorted.
"So? Maybe there will be some of his hot friends there too," I replied, winking, "Since you're obviously keeping Jacob all to yourself. Oh, and I thought it was dinner?"
She shook her head but I saw a slight blush.
"Jacob said the tribe decided to have a large bonfire on the beach, let everyone mingle with their loved ones," she replied.
"Ok, and don't lie girl, although I think it's a little messed up keeping the hunk on the side lines and dating the pale man," I stated nonchalantly.
"Nai, stop," she warned.
I shrugged but climbed into the truck with her.
"Okay, tomorrow, where ever you and Edward go, I'm going!" I said happily.
"What? Why?" she demanded.
I scoffed and met her gaze, which was slightly paranoid.
"Unless you all are doing the horizontal tango, I want to see how you two interact, I'm on a reconnaissance mission to see which boy is better for you," I explained.
"Stop, I'm already with Edward for good," she replied.
"Bella, if that we're true, you wouldn't keep Jacob around on such a tight leash," I whispered as I climbed from the car.
She shot me a glare and I smirked, knowing I had won. We headed up to the house and an older man in a wheel chair met us at the door.
"They're already down at the beach, might want to go join them," he said.
Bella nodded and pulled me down with her until we saw Jacob. Butterflies hit my stomach hard and I almost gasped. He looked amazing. Granted, he was wearing a brown hoodie and jeans, but the way his face stood against the fire light was something else. Bella shot me a weird look and I waved it off. No need to make her jealous. As much as I felt something, I wouldn't make a move on Bella's man.
"Hey guys, great to see you made it," Jacob said.
"Of course, who could refuse a bonfire," I replied grinning.
"So what are we doing down here?" Bella asked.
"Everyone's just hanging out, got some food, maybe some legends," Jacob said, "Come on Nai, I'll introduce you to my friends."
We made our way down the beach to where a large group of extremely tall and fit young men were playing ball.
"Bella? Is everyone like Adonis?!" I squeaked quietly, my face heating up.
She grinned and nudged me.
"Which one do you find the cutest?"
My brain screamed Jacob, but I pointed to the one that seemed taller, a kind of stern look on his face. Her nose crinkled.
"That's Paul, he's good looking, but he's kind of an ass," she replied.
I sighed.
"I always end up with the jerks," I mumbled.
I hid the pain that statement brought but she saw me twinge.
"What do you mean?" she demanded.
"Nothing, I'll tell you later," I replied, hurrying to shut her up as we neared the boys.
"Guys, you know Bella, this is Nai, her sister, Nai, this is Paul, Quil, Embry, and Seth," Jacob introduced.
"Hi, nice to meet you guys," I said, grinning like a fool.
Suddenly I was engulfed in a hug. The bare-chested guy was extremely hot but I shrugged it off.
"Any friend or relatives of Bella's is the same to us!" Seth said happily.
I grinned and hugged him back.
"Thanks! That's really sweet," I murmured.
"Speak for yourself," Paul muttered.
I looked up and smiled. He really was handsome, hell, they all were, but he stood out like Jacob did.
"Aww, don't be jealous, I'll hug you too," I teased, running over.
As I hugged him, he tumbled back in surprise, pulling me with him. I groaned as his hard stomach hit my soft one.
"Are you okay?" he asked, lifting me up with one arm.
I stared at him as he rose, still holding me in one arm.
"Are you like on steroids or something Paul?" I asked.
He gave me a confused look as I was put down.
"I'm not a feather-weight and you just lifted me with one arm," I pointed out.
Many different things were flying through my mind.
"Nah, we just work out a lot, and you're not as heavy as you're making it seem," he bit roughly, walking off towards the fire.
I cast Bella a confused look and she gave me a look that said, "Told you so."
"Okay, well, who's ready to eat?" Jacob asked.
I grinned and saw the boys begin racing. Bella and I made our way slowly back to the group.
"I really like how nice Jacob is, he's very considerate," I said, smirking at Bella.
She nodded and stared up at the man. I nudged her.
"Unless you want everyone knowing you're drooling over him, best stop staring," I play whispered.
That earned a elbow in the ribs. I winced and held my recently healed ribs.
"Erm, stay away from the ribs please? I fractured them at one point," I muttered.
"Oh god! I'm sorry!" she gasped, a look of shame coming on her face.
I waved her off and sat by her and Jacob. There was a group of older gentlemen and women, talking about Quileute legends. Finally Billy caught everyone's attention. He started on a story about how the Quileute come from wolves and how they have natural enemies. Vampires, or the cold ones as they called them. The story was a little scary but very sad. I could see myself being the one to sacrifice myself to save my loved ones. Finally the stories were over and I rose with Bella.
"That was interesting," I murmured.
"Not scared?" Bella asked, "Not even a bit?"
I shook my head.
"Bella, I love the supernatural, hell, I'd be thrilled if that was all real, well, except for the vampires, that would be a little scary," I admitted.
"Smart girl," Jacob said from behind me.
I jumped and turned, hand on my heart.
"Don't do that Jacob Black, or I'll beat you!" I shouted.
He chuckled and patted my shoulder.
"Good luck with that," he said.
"So, are we up for a game or what?" Seth asked as he came forward.
I saw the football in his hand and grinned. While he was distracted with Jacob, I sneaked behind him and grabbed the ball from him.
"Hehe, catch me if you can!" I yelled.
I started down the beach and heard footsteps behind me, pounding threateningly in the sand. I took a peek behind me and almost screamed. All the boys were chasing me. I stopped dead in my tracks, surprising them, and took off in the opposite direction. To my surprise, a long arm reached around me. I gasped as I was pulled to the side and all the boys fell where I once stood. I looked up and saw Paul.
"Thanks," I murmured.
He gave me a small smirk and nodded.
"Next time, don't be so stupid as to steal a team's football," he said.
I huffed at the stupid comment, tossing the ball on the ground.
"Now you listen here, I-"
"Get the ball," Embry yelled.
Paul dodged me and grabbed the ball quickly, tossing it to Jacob.
"Jerk," I mumbled.
"Le's decide teams," Quil said.
"Can I play?" I asked Jacob as I walked over.
"Sure, if you think you can handle it," he said.
"Nai, come on," Bella called.
She was with the girls but I waved her off.
"I'm gonna play football," I called back.
She rolled her eyes and waved me over. I shook my head and turned back to Jacob.
"I can't stand girl talk," I muttered.
"Me either, the girls aren't shy about it so we hear it all the time," he said.
"Sucks for you," I said.
Quickly teams were divided and it was Me, Jacob, and Seth versus Quil, Embry, and Paul.
I tackled Paul and ended up straddling him. It caused him to hesitate, in which time I grabbed the ball and threw it to Seth.
"Whoa, look at you two!" Quil teased.
"Shut it, it was an accident," I said.
I was about to get up when Paul smirked.
"I kind of like it," he said softly.
My cheeks turned red and I glared at him.
"You're not supposed to tease women," I said.
Jacob walked over and offered his hand.
"It's getting late," he said sternly.
I wondered why he seemed so upset but took his hand.
"Thanks," I said quietly.
He sent a glare at Paul who returned it.
"No need to get into a fight guys," I said nervously.
"Come on, I'll give you a ride home," Jacob said.
"I came with Bella," I replied.
"She left a while ago," Seth said.
"Really?!" I snapped.
He nodded and I groaned.
"Okay, thank you Jacob," I murmured.
We walked towards his Volkswagen in silence. I turned one last time and waved at the group.
"See you guys later!" I yelled.
Most waved back unless they were distracted by talking. I smiled and turned just in time to see Jacob stop at the car.
"Thank you again," I said as I climbed in.
"No problem," he replied.
It was awkward as we sat in silence, him driving. Finally I took a deep breath to talk.
"So tonight was fun," I said.
"Yeah, I'm glad you guys came," he said.
He seemed to loosen up a bit which made me smile.
"You guys have bonfires often?"
"About once a month, but we are at the beach all the time," he said.
"Maybe we can come down and swim one day if it's nice," I said.
He turned and flashed me a smile.
"Sounds fun," he said.
Suddenly my phone vibrated. I took my phone out and almost gasped as I recognized the number.
"Nicholas," I whispered.
"Sorry?" Jacob asked.
I shook my head and clutched the phone to my chest. Fear began to take over me.
"Get me home fast, please," I whispered.
"Why, what's wrong?" he asked.
"I, um, don't feel good," I lied.
He gave me a pensive look but nodded.
"Sure sure," he said.
