*Bella's POV*
Nai rushed past me and ran upstairs before I could even said hi. Jacob walked in after her and gave me a confused look.
"What happened?" I asked.
"I don't know," Jacob replied, "She said she felt sick."

I came back into the living room and saw Edward alone, a pensive look on his face.

He looked up and said nothing, just motioned for the staircase.

"You should probably talk to her, try to get her too open up about it," he said.

My eyebrows furrowed and I stepped closer.

"Can't you at least give me some sort of idea of what's wrong with her?"

He grimaced and rose, quickly pulling me into his arms.

"She's been through something very traumatic, something involving a guy back with your mom," he said.

Thoughts flashed through my head and finally I singled out what he meant. Some guy had hurt her.

"Did he-"

"That's not my place to tell," he said firmly.

I could tell he wouldn't budge on the subject and turned around to see Jacob looking concerned.

"She's crying," he muttered.

Edward nodded and I sighed.

"Alright guys, you should probably go home, I don't want anything ruining this chance to talk," I said apologetically.

"No problem Bells, just give me a call if you need help," Jacob stated, giving a small smile.

I thanked him and Edward gave me a soft kiss, leaving moments after Jacob. I silently made my way up the stairs until I stopped outside of Nai's door. I could hear soft intakes of breath, signaling she was for sure crying. I knocked. Shuffling ensued before she cracked the door.

"What's up Bella?" she asked.

Besides her red eyes and slightly rough voice, she hid her sadness very well.

"We need to talk," I murmured to her.

She shrugged but let me in, walking to her bed and lying on it.

"So what's up Bella?" she asked casually.

"Don't act like nothings wrong, I want to know Nai. Did Jacob upset you?"

I felt bad, dumping Jake under the bus, but she can't know I had any clue about the real problem. She snorted and sent me a "as-if" look.

"That guy has a heart of gold, he did nothing," she muttered.

"Okay, then what the hell is wrong?" I demanded.

Her dark brown eyes met mine.

"Do you really want to know?" she asked quietly.

"Of course!" I insisted.

She sighed and I saw conflict pass her eyes.

"I- I want you to promise me you won't tell dad, or anyone, got it?"

"Yeah, yeah, sure," I replied, more focused on the pain showing on her face.

"Remember Nicholas?" she asked.

"Of course, you guys were inseparable," I replied.

"Only because he made it so," she said.

I quirked an eyebrow and her eyes looked to the side in a nervous-like fashion.

"After a few months of being together, I wanted to leave because he was really mean, always talking down to me, making sure I stayed away from home as much as possible," she started.

I remembered the times when she would leave from school and not return home until around midnight, or after everyone was asleep. That explained that.

"When you moved up here with dad, while mom was busy doing everything with Phil, he started becoming physical. At first I didn't want it because it was new to me, then I didn't want it because he hurt me. I mean, h-he um, basically raped me, two or three times a week or so..."

She trailed off and I felt tears build in my eyes. I wanted to run and pull her into a hug but I know that would break this spell and she would stop talking. She took a shaky breath and I squeezed my fists tightly.

"He did things that I think even most adults would be frightened by."

I watcher her hands move anxiously, playing with her sleeves as she thought about her next words.

"He ended up getting me pregnant," she whispered, "And then beat me relentlessly until he was sure the baby was out of me and- I- um."

She stopped talking and I heard the sobs, her chest heaving. I quickly rushed over and took her into my arms.

"Nai, I'm so sorry," I murmured.

She said nothing but her far off watery stare made my chest hurt even more.

*Nai's POV*

It never occurred to me I could actually talk to Bella about those rough times. I looked up and felt bad as I saw her tears.

"I'm sorry, I should have just kept it to myself," I muttered.

"Don't, don't you ever say that," she snapped.

My eyes widened a fraction and she pushed hair from my face.

"You are an amazing person Nai, and I feel so horrible that I couldn't help with anything that happened," she murmured.

"It's no one's fault but my own for trusting him," I replied.

We sat in silence for a little while until I heard a tap from next door. I gave her a confused look and she blushed.

"Don't tell Charlie," she whispered.

I couldn't stop a grin as I realized it was Edward.

"Don't do anything I wouldn't do," I teased, "Wait, don't do anything I'd do either!"

She smacked my arm but rose, heading to the door.

"If you need anything, just come over," she said softly.

I nodded and thanked her. I could hear her and Edward talking in mumbled voices and stared at my ceiling. It was going to be a long night.

I stared at the sky and sighed.
"I don't see why I have to go to school, it's the middle of the school year," I said.
"Because, Charlie wants you to," she said.
She still hadn't broken that habit it seemed. She called him dad face to face but in private, she still called him Charlie. That kind of bugged me, considering I was adopted and I called him dad more than she did. I shook off my thoughts as we approached the school. I spotted the Cullen's cars a mile away and grinned. I had learned my favorite car had been Alice's. I told her I was going to steal it for a drive sometime and she didn't seem to mind.
"Come on, I'll take you to the office and get your schedule," she said.
"Bella, I can do it myself," I replied.
I stopped and caught her eyes. She let out a sigh but nodded.
"Fine, at least let me take you to the office so you don't get lost," she said.
I nodded in agreement. It didn't take long for us to come to a door with the sign "Office" above it.
"Thanks, I'll see you at lunch," I said.
I went in and saw a lady sitting at the desk.
"Hello, I'm Nai Swan, I need to pick up my schedule and locker number," I said.
"Ah, nice to meet you, I hope you enjoy your time in our school," she said.
I thanked her and took my information. As I left the office, I ran into someone. It felt like I ran into a brick wall. I looked up and recognized Emmett immediately.
"Oh crap, sorry Emmett!" I said.
"Hey Nai, it's all good, you're going to school here?" he asked.
I nodded.
"Only 16, so I'm kind of forced to," I said jokingly.
He gave me a smile and I couldn't help but appreciate his looks. Nothing compared to Jacob, but still nice to look at.
"What class do you have first?" he asked.
"Geometry," I said, looking down at my schedule.
"Cool, want me to take you?" he offered.
"Only if you're going that way, I don't want to trouble you."
"No trouble, I've got the class too," he said.
"Right on," I replied.
The bell rung through the hallway and I winced.
"Great, late on my first day," I groaned.
He put his hand on my shoulder and patted me.
"It's okay, you might get a detention though," he said, "Mr. Tuck's a hard ass."
I groaned again and slapped my forehead.
"Just what I need," I grumbled.
We walked through the hall until he stopped at a door, opening it for me.
"Well Mr. Cullen, I didn't expect you to be tardy, no less with a female," a male said.
I blushed and walked closer.
"Sorry sir, it's my fault, please don't give him a detention," I said.
He hesitated but waved us to the chairs.
"I presume you are the new Mrs. Swan," he said.
I nodded, "Nai."
"Well Nai, your seat is next to Emmett's so please sit," he said.
I blushed again as I realized I had been standing still. I hurried to my desk and slapped Emmette as he laugh at me.
"You must be special, otherwise we'd be in detention tonight," he said.
I shrugged.
"I'm just lucky," I replied.
It did bother me though. Although I love being able to easily get out of stick situations, I could never figure out why. I'm not a stunner so that can't be it. I tapped my pen in thought until I was shushed by a student. I halted my pen and apologized softly, realizing that Mr. Tuck was already at the board beginning today's lesson.

"Oh I don't miss school," I groaned.
Bella laughed.
"It's not so bad once you get used to it," she promised.
I rolled my eyes.
"That's what they all say," I replied.
I heard the phone ring and ran for it before Bella could. She stuck her tongue out and I grinned in victory.
"Swan house, Nai speaking," I said.
"Nai, this is Jake," a male voice said.
My heart skipped a beat and I let a true smile slip onto my face.
"Hey Jacob, what's up?"
"Is Bella there?" he asked.
I felt slightly downtrodden but said, "Sure, here she is."
I handed the phone to Bella and faked a smile.
"It's Jacob," I said.
Her smile flourished and she took the phone happily.
"Hey Jake, what's going on?"
I walked into the kitchen to pass by time, when I saw someone outside of the window. My nearly stopped in my chest.
"Nicholas?" I whispered.
Then he was gone before I could blink.
