"So there are a lot of big wolves?" I asked Bella.
"It's not uncommon," she replied.
She looked up from her book and gave me a questioning look.
"Why?"
"When Jacob was driving me home, one ran by the car," I explained.
"Ah, yeah, they tend to stay on the reservation," she replied.
She returned to her book and I started to finish my homework when I got a text.
"Think you can hide from me? Wrong bitch. You've been found. Just wait until you're away from your manwhores and slut of a sister," it read.
I jumped up and pressed the call button without thinking. As it rang, my heart started to speed up. How dare he say those things.
"Hello sweetheart," he said.
"Who the fuck do you think you are, saying those things!" I yelled.
Bella looked up in surprise.
"Why I'm your fiance, remember? Or did your recent trip to Forks cause you to lose your memory?"
I gasped and my eyes went wide. So he did know!
"Listen to me, you stay away from me! I left you for a reason," I said.
"Why's that? Because you're a sniveling bitch who couldn't handle a little passion? Guess what sweetie, I'm not leaving you," he said.
"Good luck! My dad's a cop."
"I'm something much stronger," he said ominously.
I felt a lump grow in my throat as I was losing the battle. Suddenly the phone was jerked from my hands.
"Listen up Nicholas, she's not going to come with you. Leave her alone."
Then she slammed the phone and handed it back to me.
"So he knows?" she asked.
I nodded and she pulled me into her arms.
"I think it's a good idea to have someone with you tonight while I go out," she said.
"Who would do that?"
I rolled my eyes as Jacob won the second hand of Rummy.
"Cheater," I mumbled.
"You're just mad that you lost," he said.
I wanted to kiss that smirking mouth of his so bad, but I restrained myself to just laughing.
"I guess so," I replied.
I sighed and set the cards down.
"Want to watch a movie?" I asked.
"Sure, what movie?"
"Death Sentence?" I offered.
He nodded and got up.
"I'll go make popcorn," he said.
I turned to the dvd case and put in the movie. The menu popped up as he came back with a huge bowl.
"This is nice, usually I'm alone," I said.
"You should just call me up when you're alone, it's not good to be in solitude so much," he said.
I shrugged. I guess he had forgiven me about Paul and for not telling him. But now he knew half of the story. He knew that I had a psycho ex following me, not what he had done.
"So what's your favorite scent?" I asked randomly.
"The forest," he said.
"Mine's the ocean," I replied.
"The ocean scent has a calming effect," he said, agreeing.
We quieted down as the movie took full swing.
"I'd do the same thing as him," I said softly.
"Really?" he asked.
I nodded.
"If someone dared to touch my child, they'd be dead the next day," I said honestly, "Well, I'd like to think I could do it."
"It's a lot different than you realize I'm sure," he said.
"Probably, I just hope I never have to do it," I said.
"So how many kids do you want?" he asked.
"About two or three," I said, "But I wouldn't mind just one, all depends on the guy I'm with."
He nodded.
"Sounds like my plan," he said.
"So I've seen how you treat Bella, and how Edward treats her," I said suddenly.
"And?" he asked.
"I like how you treat her better, you treat her like she's your best friend and he treats her like she's breakable," I said.
"She is in his hands," he said under his voice.
"What?" I asked, "Why would you say that?"
He cleared his throat and shook his head.
"Nothing, I'm exaggerating," he muttered.
"You better be, if I find out he would hurt her, I'll murder him," I said.
He chuckled.
"Good luck with that," he said, "You're a pipsqueak."
"Hey!" I shouted.
I slapped him, which he pinched me in return. Without thinking I jumped on him and started poking him hard. He turned us over and I fell off the edge onto the floor, him following. He managed to stop himself from hitting me and I winced at the ache growing in my back.
"Sorry," he murmured.
I waved it off and smiled up at him.
"No big," I said.
"Sure?" he asked.
"I've felt much worse," I said.
He sighed.
"That's not going to make me feel better."
I let out a giggle at his pensive face and poked his cheek.
"Lighten up, I'm not breakable," I said.
His face stayed serious as he leaned closer. Oh my god, was he going to kiss me?
"You've got fuzz in your hair," he whispered.
He reached up and plucked out a piece of fuzz. I blushed and looked away.
"Thanks," was all I could mumble.
He started to pull away but I grabbed him on instinct and pulled him into a kiss. He froze against me. I jerked back once I realized he wasn't moving.
"Shit," I muttered.
I pushed him off and ran upstairs, hiding in my room.
"Nai," he called.
I locked the door as I heard him coming up.
"Nai, open up," he said.
"No, just leave," I said.
"No," he replied sternly, "Now open up."
I leaned against the door and held my sobs in, not wanting him to hear.
"Please Nai," he said softly.
I fell prey to his pleading and opened the door slightly, enough to see his face.
"What?" I asked.
"We need to talk," he said.
"No, we don't, I know what you're going to say, 'Oh sorry Nai I'm not into you'," I said mockingly.
His features went softer.
"That's not it," he said.
"Then what is it? Because I'm not stupid enough to believe you actually like me," I said.
It was so hard to keep the tears in. Why did I have to ruin it?
"I'm not right for you," he said.
"Because you love Bella," I finished.
He said nothing.
"I understand that, can we just forget my stupid move?" I asked.
He nodded.
"It's forgotten, now want to finish the movie?" he asked.
"Let's just go back to how we were," I finalized.
We headed down stairs just to hear the door shut.
"Nai, Jacob?" Bella called.
I gave her a fake smile and hugged her.
"Did you have fun?" I asked.
"Lots! I never knew I could ice skate," she said.
"Especially since you're such a klutz," I joked.
She nudged me and smiled up at Jacob.
"How'd it go?" she asked.
"Great, we were just watching a movie," he said.
"Good, no incidents?"
"Nope, it was silent all night," he replied.
"Alright, thanks Jacob," she said.
I saw his eyes glaze over at her smile and almost retched. I left them alone and returned to the living room.
"When's the next get together?" Bella asked as they came in.
Damn it people, I left the room from you two for a reason, I thought.
"Tomorrow night, want to come?" he asked.
"Sure," Bella said.
"Can we actually go swimming this time?" I asked.
He nodded.
"Good."
They said goodbyes and Jacob left with a wave.
I pulled on my monokini and smiled at my reflection. It really highlighted my assets and hid my trouble tummy. I slipped on a T-shirt, sarong and flip flops, then headed to the truck. Bella was waiting in her usual clothes.
"Not gonna swim?" I asked.
"Nope, not a big fan," she said.
I shrugged and flipped the radio on. It was a catchy pop tune and we began singing along.
"So Bella, I think I like Edward as a brother figure, but I really wish you had chosen Jacob," I said suddenly.
"Why?" she asked, looking confused.
"Because he treats you better, not like you're a porcelain doll," I said.
"I like being treated like that though," she replied.
"Really?" I asked, raising my eyebrow.
She nodded.
"I feel special," she admitted, her face turning red.
"Jacob doesn't make you feel that way?"
"He does, but in a different way," she explained.
I shook my head.
"Whatever, you're still leading him on," I said.
She threw me a glare.
"He knows we're just friends," she said.
"Yeah but he still wants more," I retorted.
"That's his fault," she replied angrily
I rolled my eyes.
"Fine, be obstinate," I sighed.
The rest of the ride was silent except for the radio. As we stepped out of the truck, we spotted the guys on the beach. There were much less people this time. It was just Sam, Emily, Leah, Quil, Embry, Paul, Seth, and Jacob, no elders or parents. We walked down the beach until we met the group who were talking.
"Hey!" Seth called.
I smiled and waved. He patted the log next to him and waved us over.
"Come sit, we were just talking about going cliff diving," he said.
"Cliff diving?" I asked.
"Yeah, we go up on the cliffs and jump into the water," Embry explained.
I shook at just the thought.
"Count me out, majorly afraid of heights," I said.
"Scardy cat!" Seth jeered playfully.
I slapped him and said, "I'll watch."
They all got up and headed up towards the woods while I sat down.
