Alex O'Donnell lay unconscious on the operating table, his body battered and broken from the intense battle that had just taken place.
Standing over him was Vomi, a skilled doctor and researcher of the Red Ribbon Army, who was determined to save his life at any cost. Beside her was TX-01, a droid programmed to assist in medical procedures, who was ready to follow her every command.
Vomi took a deep breath and looked down at Alex's mangled form. She knew that time was of the essence, and that she needed to act quickly if she was going to save him.
"TX get the anesthesia ready," she commanded, her voice firm and determined. "We need to stabilize him before we can begin treatment."
He nodded obediently and quickly set to work, preparing the anesthesia and placing a mask over Alex's face. Vomi watched as the young man's breathing slowed and his body relaxed, grateful for the opportunity to work without causing him any further pain.
As TX-01 administered the anesthesia, Vomi activated a body scanner that descended from the ceiling and began to scan Alex's entire body. She watched intently as the scanner analyzed his vitals, eager to learn the extent of his injuries.
"TX, tell me the analysis on the patient's vitals," Vomi said, her voice tense with anticipation.
His response was swift and precise. "The patient suffers from third-degree burns that is appearing to be lacerations."
He zoned in on the critical wounds on the patients body on the screen noting them to Vomi.
"Additionally he has 4th degree burns showing to be gashes on both his chest and lower spinal column that go diagonally and vertically respectfully."
Vomi looked to TX-01 with a serious expression on her face. "The spinal damage, can we fix it so he can walk again?"
He made a chirping sound and replied. "I'm not in the belief we can."
Vomi sighed, her heart heavy with the knowledge that they would not be able to fix Alex's spinal injury. She knew that it would be a devastating blow for the fallen emperor, who had already suffered so much.
She also knew that there was still work to be done, and that they needed to focus on the task at hand if they were going to help him recover.
"TX," she said, her voice firm and resolute. "We need to begin the skin grafting procedure. We need to cover as much of his body as possible to prevent infection and promote healing."
He nodded, its metallic claws clicking as it typed commands into the console. Vomi watched as machines began to rise from the floor, moving into position around the operating table.
She could feel the hum of their lasers as they began to remove the dead skin from the lacerated sections of Alex's body.
It was a delicate and painstaking process, but Vomi and TX-01 worked together with precision and focus. They carefully monitored Alex's vitals, adjusting the anesthesia and pain medication as needed to keep him comfortable.
As the machines worked, Vomi couldn't help but marvel at her technology that made it all possible. The artificially grown skin was a true marvel of her science, capable of seamlessly integrating with the patient's own tissue and promoting rapid healing.
But despite her incredible technology at their disposal, the process was still grueling and exhausting. Hours passed as Vomi and TX-01 worked tirelessly, moving from one section of Alex's body to the next. They worked in silence, their minds focused in unity
As the they finished the machines came down and began adding gauze and bandages to the affected areas they had both worked on.
Vomi took a deep breath, steadying herself as she prepared to deal with the most serious injury that Alex had suffered. She knew that the plasma burn on his chest had caused severe damage to his lungs, and that without immediate treatment, death was certain.
"TX, prepare the cellular medicine treatment," she said, her voice calm and measured. "We need to regrow the damaged tissue as quickly as possible."
He nodded, its metallic claws clicking as it retrieved the necessary vials from medical cupboards above them. Vomi watched as the machines began to hum, preparing the medicine for administration.
With the medicine ready, Vomi took a scalpel and carefully began to make an incision in Alex's chest, following the diagonal path of the plasma burn.
She felt a sharp pang of horror as she saw the damage that had been done, the torn and damaged pleural membranes that were now preventing Alex from breathing properly.
But She didn't let her emotions get the best of her. She had a job to do. Carefully, she began to cut away the damaged tissue, working quickly and efficiently to remove as much of the damaged material as possible.
Once the damaged tissue had been removed, TX-01 handed Vomi a vial of the cellular medicine. She carefully poured it onto the damaged portions of Alex's lungs, watching as it glowed blue and began to regrow the missing tissue.
Hours passed again, as Vomi and TX-01 worked tirelessly to apply lays of skin graphs to patient's chest and stitch it together so it could properly heal.
And once more, the machines came down and began adding gauze and bandages to the affected area they had both worked on.
Vomi took a deep breath, trying to steady herself as she prepared to deal with the spinal injury. She knew that this was going to be the most difficult part of the surgery, and that there was a chance that they might not be able to fix it.
"TX, let's take a look at the spinal injury," she said, her voice steady but filled with a sense of trepidation.
He clicked a button on the console, clamps wrapped around Alex's arms and legs, holding him securely in place as the operating table turned upside down, revealing the damage to his lower spine.
Vomi felt a wave of nausea wash over her as she saw the melted, fused bone protruding from the wound. It was clear that this injury had been inflicted by a lightsaber, but the fact that it looked like it had been done by an animal more than saiyan made her even more uneasy.
She took a closer look, examining the wound carefully. It was clear that the damage was extensive, and that it was going to be a challenge to repair it.
"TX-01, I need you to bring up the diagnostic imaging," she said, her voice firm. "Let's get a better look at what we're dealing with here."
She looked at him with concern. She knew that it was likely going to be a C1-C4 spinal injury and that was the most severe injury, and it could potentially lead to quadriplegia or paralysis in all four limbs.
Vomi sighed heavily and looked back at the diagnostic machine, trying to come up with a plan to help Alex.
After a few moments of silence, Vomi turned to TX-01 and asked, "What are the options for treatment?"
He looked back at Vomi and said, "The only viable option at this point is to perform a spinal fusion surgery, which will stabilize his spine and prevent further damage to his spinal cord. However, it's not a guarantee that it will restore his mobility."
She looked at TX-01 with a determined expression on her face.
"I need to know if there is any way I can reduce Alex's spinal injury to level t1-t5 using my powers." She said, her voice wavering slightly.
His metallic eyes blinked as he calculated the probability of Vomi's request.
"I'm sorry, Vomi," TX-01 replied. "That would be medically impossible. The spinal cord is a delicate structure, and any attempt to alter it can result in fatal consequences."
Her heart sank at his response. She knew that Alex's injury was serious and would affect him for the rest of his life. She couldn't and wouldn't live the rest of his life as quadriplegic.
She was willing to take the risk to give him a better spinal injury.
Determined, Vomi took off her glasses, revealing her cold blue eyes, She gave TX-01 a piercing glare.
"I understand the risks, but I am going to do this." Vomi said firmly.
With voice full of determination she said. "I cannot let Alex O'Donnell live here in this lab knowing he will be suffering day after day."
He beeped in response, understanding the gravity of the situation. "I will respect your decision, Dr. Vomi. But please be aware that any attempt to alter the spinal cord could have dire consequences."
She nodded, her determination unwavering. Vomi turned back to the operating table and took a deep breath. She knew the risks involved, but she couldn't let that fear stop her from trying to help the man who needed her help.
With her powers, she would do everything she could to reduce Alex's spinal injury and give him a chance at being comfortable in this lab that would he his new home.
Vomi took a deep breath and put her hands out over his spinal injury, and a pink aura formed around her fingers as she began to concentrate intensely.
As she worked, she could feel the energy flowing out of her and into Alex's body, mending what she could. She ignored the dizziness creeping in and pushed through it, focusing solely on her mission.
Vomi could see the spine reforming, unfusing, putting itself back together and the nerves along with it.
The dizziness got even worse and more prevalent. "Keep going", she muttered to herself. "The more you can fix the more likely he may be able to walk again."
As she kept going and funneling her healing power into his wound she became exhausted, and her legs began trembling. Losing consciousness her eyes rolled back into her head as she stumbled and fell to the ground.
TX-01, who had been watching over the entire procedure, rushed to Vomi's side. "Are you okay?" the machine asked, concern etched on his metallic face.
Vomi shook her head weakly, still trying to catch her breath. "Did I lower Alex's spinal injury to level t1-t5?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
He paused for a moment, scanning Alex's medical charts once more. "Yes, Vomi," it said, "I detect that you did reduce his injury to the level you specified."
She wiped the tears from her eyes that had just leaked out with the sleeve of her lab coat, laughing quietly to herself.
Vomi couldn't quite put a name to the feeling that had just come over her. It was something she had never experienced before.
Was it sadness? She wasn't sure. She had always been an emotionless being, focused solely on her work.
TX-01 tilted his robotic head in confusion, trying to understand what was going on. "Vomi, are you alright?" the machine asked.
She nodded, still smiling. "Yes, I'm fine," she said. "I just... felt something I didn't know I had."
He beeped in response, still not quite understanding. "What do you mean?" He asked.
Vomi sighed, trying to put her thoughts into words. "I mean, I've never felt this way before," she said.
She shook her head regretfully. "I've always been so focused on my work, I've allowed myself to feel anything.
But when I was able to put my heal powers into heal Alex's spine, it was like something inside me just clicked. I don't know how to describe it."
TX-01 processed this information, understanding a bit more. "It sounds like you experienced a sense of fulfillment, Vomi." He said.
His metallic eyes blinked as he went about the best way to finish his explanation. "When we are able to help others, it can bring us a sense of joy and satisfaction that we may not have known before."
Vomi nodded slowly, processing what TX-01 had said. It made sense, and she couldn't deny that she felt fulfilled. "Thank you, TX," she said quietly. "I think I understand now."
The machines while Vomi had been on the floor had done all work, placing layers of artificial skin graphs. stitching them, and place gauze and bandages over them. The operating table then flipped over once more.
Vomi walked over to the surgical tray, retrieving the needle for the final step in Alex's treatment. She carefully injected it into his arm, watching as the medicine flowed through his veins.
As she did, she spoke softly to him, almost as if he could hear her. "You're going to be okay now, Alex," she said. "Nobody is going to come and hunt you down. You're safe here."
She couldn't help but feel a sense of protectiveness over the fallen emperor, knowing that he had been through so much. It was her duty to make sure that he was taken care of, even if it meant putting her own life on the line.
She knew that he was a powerful force user, with the potential to bring about both destruction and salvation. She had seen the darkness in him, but also glimpsed the light.
She hoped that with her help, he would be able see the light within him, and return back to man he once was.
Once the injection was complete, Vomi stood up straight and stretched her back, feeling the tension release from her muscles. She looked over at TX-01, who had been watching the entire time.
"Thank you for your assistance, TX," she said, nodding in appreciation. "I couldn't have done this without you."
The machine beeped in response, its metallic eyes blinking. "It was my pleasure to assist you, Dr. Vomi," it said. "I am always here to help."
TX-01 assisted Vomi in carefully lifting Alex O'Donnell into the recovery bed, making sure that he was comfortable and secure.
As they wheeled him through the lab, Vomi looked down at the sleeping former Sith Emperor and felt a sense of satisfaction that she had been able to help him.
She couldn't help but notice that her mouth had formed into a smile, something that was rare for her.
Vomi shook her head, trying to understand why she had done that. She couldn't remember the last time she had smiled at anyone not even her son, Gevo.
No one else had ever been able to evoke such a response from her, until now.
She felt a sense of confusion and vulnerability wash over her, unsure of how to process her emotions. She had always prided herself on her logical and analytical mind.
Now she was experiencing something that she couldn't quite explain. It worried her somewhat.
They finally arrived at the room where Alex would recover, and live in. Vomi got the bed positioned and attached vital monitors on him. She watched as TX-01 left the room, feeling grateful for his help.
She turned back to Alex, checking his vitals and making sure that everything was stable. As she did so, she couldn't help but wonder what the future held for him.
Vomi sat there for a long while, lost in her thoughts. She reflected on her life, her work, and what had led her to this moment. She had always been a scientist, driven by her curiosity and passion for understanding the mysteries of the universe.
It was only now, as she sat by Alex's side, that she realized the true impact that her work could have on the world.
She looked at Alex, his face peaceful in sleep. Despite the darkness that had consumed him, she saw something else in him. A glimmer of hope, a spark of light that could be brought out with her aid.
She knew that he had a long road ahead of him, and she vowed to help him in any way that she could.
Vomi stood up and walked over to the fake window, gazing out at the holographic stars that twinkled in the darkness. She thought about the vastness of the universe, and how small she was in comparison.
She also knew that even the smallest actions could have a profound impact on the world.
Vomi turned back to Alex, feeling a new sense of purpose welling up inside her. She would do everything to make him well again. Mentally and physically, she would make him whole.
She walked back over chair next to the bed and sat down, taking Alex's hand in hers. She closed her eyes and concentrated, sending a wave of healing energy through his body.
Vomi could feel his muscles relaxing, his breathing becoming deeper and more regular.
Releasing his hand, she began sitting comfortably in the chair. The sound of Alex's heartbeat monitor soothing her.
As the gentle beeps of his monitor went on and off, it lulled Vomi into her first peaceful sleep. Freeing her of the usual constant stream of calculations and analyses that filled her thoughts.
For the first time since her activation, she felt truly at peace.
