Cheerilee stood at the front of the room, smiling, "Alright class, settle down. You've probably already noticed that we have a new student. Her name is Eternity."

All of the ponies turned to stare at me. I swallowed dryly, and smiled. I'm pretty sure that came out as a grimace.

"She is going to be with us for a while, I hope you all treat her kindly. Now, do you all have the homework I assigned you over the weekend?"

Everyone pulled out sheets of paper from their desk. I peered over at Scootaloo's, it was covered in the strange symbols that were on the chalkboard. Cheerilee smiled, "I'll come around and collect them while you little ponies start on the questions on the board. If you need help, talk to the pony beside you."

I pulled out a piece of paper, and a pencil. I wrote Math Practise on the top. I chewed at my lip, and leaned over to Scootaloo, "Can you help me?"

Scootaloo smiled, "Sure!" She got out of her seat, and quietly explained what we were doing, "We're taking two numbers, and adding them. The answer we get is the sum."

"Like two plus two equals four?" I asked.

Scootaloo nodded, "You got it. Why do you need my help?"

"I don't know the symbols you're using. If I just copy these down I can't read them."

Scootaloo's eyes widened, "Oh! I can help with that," She picked up a pencil in her mouth, and started scribbling them down. Beside each she wrote the actual letter form for each. She wrote up to thirty, and nudged the paper forward, "There. If you need more help, let me know."

I nodded, and started on the questions, taking time to check to see if I was writing them out properly. Question One: 2+4=

I tilted my head to the side, This is easy... I quickly completed the questions, stopping to ask Scootaloo about the symbols for certain numbers before writing down my answers. Soon, I was done all of the questions. I looked around, and noticed that most of the others were done too.

Cheerilee looked around the class, "How many of you are done?"

I raised my hand, and all of the other ponies raised their hooves. Cheerilee beamed, "Hand your sheet to the desk ahead of you. I want all the sheets on the front desks."

I handed my sheet to the chubby, grey pony in front of me. Apple Bloom waved a hoof in the air, "What are we doing today, Ms. Cheerilee?"

"Well, the morning is going to be dedicated to an art project-" Most of the ponies cheered, "and in the afternoon, we're having a math quiz."

Everyone groaned, but I was confused. A quiz? Does she mean a test? Cheerilee smiled, "Don't be so unhappy! It's only on addition!"

A few ponies sighed in relief, and so did I. Cheerilee smiled, "I want you ponies to draw something that reminds you of home. I don't care if you use markers or pencil crayons, or even just a pencil. You may move your desks to sit with other ponies."

The scraping of desks on wooden floors reigned supreme over the talking ponies. Before I could blink a second time, Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo had moved their desks near mine. Sweetie Belle rummaged around her desk for a moment, and pulled out some coloured pencils and paper.

The other followed suit. I pulled out some paper, and my own coloured pencils. I thought about what Cheerilee had said. What reminds me of home? I wondered. I was startled by a sudden revelation, what do I consider home?

The little shack in the Everfree Forest didn't count, nor did the small rooms I had lived in while I had been Celestia's pupil. Many of the other places I had lived in did not count either, they had mostly been rickety shelters I had built on my own.

Everyone I knew was dead, except Celestia. I didn't even know if Luna was alive, and I had only spoken to her a handful of times. I didn't remember my parents, or siblings, or any other blood relations I could have had. Absentmindedly, I chewed on my thumbnail, thinking. With my other hand, I picked up my pencil.

There was always a wall between the rebels and I, they never fully trusted me. Even Tobias was weary of me. He knew my magic was tainted-

It suddenly struck me, my magic was my home. But what can I draw that represents it?

"Wow!" Apple Bloom breathed.

Startled, I looked down at my paper. While I had been lost in thought, I had drawn something I had never thought to see again. On the bottom of the page, I was crouching on the ground, sword next to me. My hair was up in the air, surrounding my head. I had drawn runes on the ground, and a magical shield was protecting me from dragonfire that as swirling around the rest of the page.

I felt bile rise in my throat, but I swallowed it away. I sighed, and shrugged internally. Scootaloo leaned over her desk to see what I had drawn, "What is that?"

"Me..." I replied, "and my magic."

Above the drawing of me was a shield made of wisps of magic, swirling around and protecting my image. Sweetie Belle blinked, "You have magic?" Her voice carried, and soon all the fillies and colts turned to stare at me.

I felt my cheeks heat up, and I ducked my head down. I heard most of the ponies begin to whisper. Cheerilee trotted over, "Now now, children. We all know that only unicorns are capable of using magic. Can anyone tell me why that is?"

Sweetie Belle waved a hoof in the air, "I know, I know!"

Cheerilee smiled, "yes?"

"No one knows why. It's been like that for a long time. Ponies haven't been able to figure it out yet."

I grimaced, and bit my tongue. You can't tell, you can't tell, you can't tell. I quietly put the sheet in my desk, and pondered one of the other blank sheets in front of me. What is home? I chewed on a thumbnail, considering. I ignored the class discussion and seriously considered my dilemma.

"Eternity, you started this whole discussion, do you have anything to add?" Cheerilee asked, startling me from my reverie.

I shook my head, "no."

Cheerilee looked at me oddly, but smiled again, and quieted the class down. I breathed a sigh of relief, and stared at the blank piece of paper in front of me. I chewed at the end of my pencil, turning thoughts around in my head. What is home?

I thought about everything I could remember, and a memory suddenly thrust itself to the forefront of my mind.

I was sitting at a table, in pony form. I was young, only about ten or eleven. A mare was cooking on a stove in front of me, black hair in a bun behind her ears. She turned around, revealing her neck. A black choker stood out against her white fur.

At the thought, the one around my neck itched. The mare looked at me, large blue eyes sparkling, "You're father will be home soon, then we can wish you a happy birthday as a family."

I smile, and inhale. Scents of cooking cheese, flowery perfume, and baby powder were prominent. At the thought, a baby began to cry, "Can you go check on Aira? She's probably dirty."

I nod, and slide off my chair. I trot through the house, and stop outside of a room. A little filly with bright blue eyes and a red mane was standing in her crib, crying. I smile, "Hello, Aira. Shhh, what's wrong?"

"Dirty!"

I gently pick her up by her sleeper, and set her on the changing table. I quickly changed her diaper, and gently lowered her to the ground. Aira threw her hooves around my front leg, and smiled up at me.

"Love you."
